Jacqueline Avant, the late wife of music executive Clarence Avant, was a brilliant bouquet of things: mother, philanthropist, community activist, art collector. But during her life — which was tragically cut short in December 2021 — she was also quietly a bridge between the palm tree-lined streets of Beverly Hills and those of South Central as president of Neighbors of Watts, a support group for the South Central Community Child Care Center where she committed her time and resources to at-risk youth.
“My mom was almost the ambassador to South Central,” Nicole Avant, daughter of Jacqueline and Clarence Avant and former U.S. Ambassador to the Bahamas, told The Hollywood Reporter. “She lived in Beverly Hills all her life. The first time she touched down in LA, [she and my dad] moved to Beverly Hills. That was it.”

Paramount Network is plotting more Wife Swap after the unscripted format delivered decent ratings in key demos for the Viacom-owned network.
The broadcaster has ordered a second season of the UK format with 20 new episodes. It comes from Banijay Studios North America.
The network said that compared to the same slot the previous year, the show was up +77% with P18-49 (0.35 rating), up +96% with W18-49 (0.44 rating) and up +75% with total viewers.
The first season launched on April 4, having moved from its original buyer Cmt. The show, which was originally due to air in February on Cmt, moved after Viacom’s realignment of Viitsacom entertainment cable networks under Kent Alterman and Chris McCarthy. Cmt had been a part of a group that also included Paramount Network and TV Land. The programming of the three networks was overseen by Keith Cox, who bought and developed the updated Wife Swap for Cmt.

Paramount Network picked up a second season of “Wife Swap,” the network announced on Wednesday.
The series, a reboot of the 2004 original which sees two families from different walks of life switch spouses for two weeks, will return for 20 additional episodes.
“‘Wife Swap’ is an iconic international hit that we knew would resonate with our Paramount Network audience,” Paramount Network development boss Keith Cox said in a statement. “Season 1 told entertaining and compelling stories of great families that were dramatic and at times pleasantly comedic. We’ll explore even more diverse families and their fascinating stories for Season 2.”

Genevieve Hegney and Tim Minchin in ‘Upright’ (Photo credit: Foxtel).
Playing strangers who meet half way across the Nullarbor and have a brief but passionate encounter in Foxtel’s upcoming series Upright was a lot of fun for Tim Minchin and Genevieve Hegney.
Friends since they attended the University of Western Australia and its dramatic society Uds, they had not been on stage or screen together before, although she did direct him in a Uds production of Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, in which he played The Player.
In Upright Hegney’s character Frankie is travelling from Perth while Minchin’s Flynn is coming from Sydney with teenage runaway Meg (Milly Alcock) as they lug a piano across the country.
“We were both good sports about the love scene,” she tells If. “After 20 years in the business we were being very technical, like ‘you put your hand...

The reboot of reality TV show “Wife Swap” has swapped networks.
Paramount Network has announced it is taking over the show from Cmt, and will start airing 10 new episodes on April 4.
Each episode of the show takes two families from different walks of life and switches spouses, regardless of sex. During each swap, the new spouses must at first adhere to the rules of the the household they have just joined, before eventually being able to introduce their own ideas and beliefs. At the end, both couples meet face-to-face and discuss what they learned from the swap.
“Wife Swap” originally ran for six seasons from 2004 to 2010 on ABC, before the network brought it back for a seventh season in 2013.
“’Wife Swap’ is an iconic international hit that’s more relevant now than ever,” said Keith Cox, President of Development for Paramount Network. “There are plenty of fireworks in each episode that audiences expect,...

The program migration among Viacom cable networks continues. The revival of spouse-switching reality series Wife Swap, which which had been ordered a year ago by Cmt and was supposed to debut on the network Feb. 28, will instead air on siblings Paramount Network. The 10 one-hour episodes will begin airing April 4.
Paramount Network had been designated as Viacom’s leading scripted programming brand, while Cmt, labeled a reinforcing brand, had retreated from scripted programming after its foray with Nashville and Sun Records, to remain focused on reality fare.
Wife Swap‘s relocation does not signal a change in programming direction for either network. Premium scripted series remains a priority for Paramount Network, with some limited presence of unscripted, sports and doc on the schedule. (One of the first original series that launched the rebranded Paramount Network was the docuseries Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story.)

Check out these amazing photos of the cars from Mad Max: Fury Road by photographer John Platt. They come from the mind of George Miller and were brought to life by Production Designer Colin Gibson. These badass vehicles from a world gone mad are works of art, and they belong in a museum! You know... the ones that survived filming. Platt had the good fortune to shoot these before production began.
"Prior to the start of shooting 'Mad Max Fury Road' in Namibia, South West Africa I was commissioned to shoot these vehicles. Seventy five vehicles in three weeks. Trucks, cars and bikes including the incredible details that made each of them a work of art."
The details he captured are, indeed, incredible. Unfortunately, there are no pictures of Furiosa's War Rig. Be sure to check out the rest of the gallery and his work here and here. ...

Stills photographer John Platt.used a Fujifilm X-T1 to shoot stills on the set of Killing Ground, the Australian feature debut from shorts filmmaker Damien Power (Hitchhiker) which stars Harriet Dyer, Ian Meadows, Aaron Pederson, Aaron Glenane, Tiarnie Coupland and Maya Stange.

Platt walked us through his tool-kit:
.In addition to the primary X-T1 I also used a second body, 23mm and 50mm lenses and a 50-140mm zoom lens. The attitude from all on set to the X-T1 was amazingly positive. As each actor arrived on set for the first time I would introduce myself and ask if they would be Ok with me shooting during the take, while the camera was rolling. I also made a point of highlighting the camera.s silent shutter. Every one of them agreed they were relieved to know I wouldn.t be asking them to...

This black and white biopic of Diggers founder Gerrard Winstanley's truly level take on these socialist ancestors never sacrifices authenticity for entertainment
• More from the Reel history archive
Winstanley (1975)
Director: Kevin Brownlow
Entertainment grade: C+
History grade: A
Gerrard Winstanley began True Levellers, a Christian group devoted to egalitarian and communal living that formed in the wake of the English civil war. They became known as the Diggers, and are often considered precursors of socialists or communists.
Name check
Few things warm the cockles of a historian's cold, dispassionate heart like a long list of eminent advisers named in the opening credits of a film. Winstanley shouts out to several museum curators (from the V&A, Tower of London and the Museum of English Rural Life), somebody from the Roundhead Association (yes, it still exists) and a brigadier from the Sealed Knot. A prologue provides historical background, complete with...

From Mother Nature Network's John Platt:
You may know Tony Little's name from infomercials or Hsn, where he often sells his Gazelle Glider brand of personal fitness devices. Now he has lent his name to an actual gazelle, a critically endangered dama gazelle that was born last September at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C.
The baby gazelle — the second calf born at the National Zoo in 2012 but the only one to survive — has been named "Little Tony" for his hyperactive behavior, which reminded zoo staff of the infomercial star. The story behind the naming was announced last month on the Friends of the National Zoo Facebook page: "Recently, one of these calves leaped (or shall we say 'stotted' and 'pronged') into the heart of an American fitness icon who many know for his infomercials and larger-than-life personality — Tony Little. Little drew inspiration from these animals' movements...

Banding together in a show of compassion and generosity, ten Bay Area Taekwondo schools and Mountain View Christian Center are hosting the Kick-a-Thon For Humanity to benefit the Platt family, recently struck by the young father’s untimely death.
Rapper Mc Hammer will attend in support of the cause and will be presented with a humanitarian award. The event, held on October 16th, will showcase students from each school, and those new to taekwondo, throwing as many kicks as possible in a two-minute period. Sponsors make a financial donation based on that amount. The Kick-a-Thon will include performances by dance, rap and drama groups and vendors are invited to participate.
