With summer being the much anticipated months for the film biz, more shocking stories come into sight. The leak of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" unfinished version, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" experiencing on-set mishap, and the chopping off of La Toya Jackson's scene from "Bruno" were some of the affairs that juiced up this year's fairly modest summer months.
April
Though the story came to public attention on April 1, it wasn't one of the April Fool's jokes. One month prior to the theatrical release of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", its workprint version was leaked out online and made available for download on several bittorrent sites, prompting a more than 75,000 download ever since. Preventing further illegal act on the unfinished film, 20th Century Fox was quick to issue a statement, and vowed to prosecute the source of the initial leak and any subsequent postings.

Few films have come out the box recently like The Hangover. Sure there have been films that have become a part of the conversation, and the Apatow films were hundred million dollar pictures, but The Hangover was a phenomenon. Granted I live in a world where people don’t make “fat Jesus” jokes any more. As part of the target demo for this, I’m happy my friends aren’t the guys quoting this film ad nauseum, but I feel like this film managed to hit the nerves that Austin Powers did in maximum quotability, so my residual like may be tempered by other’s exhaustion. My review of The Hangover Blu-ray after the fold.

Home video buyers certainly drank in one of this past week's new DVD/Bd releases in sweeping fashion. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Hangover swept all three home video charts, topping the DVD sales charts, DVD rental charts and the Blu-ray sales charts, for the week ending December 20. The closest competitor to the Todd Phillips comedy was Quentin Tarantino's World War II epic Inglourious Basterds, which came in second place behind The Hangover on all three charts, although it was a rather distant second place. Inglourious Basterds sold just 42.5 percent of the units that The Hangover and Inglourious Basterds rented just 50.5% as many rentals as The Hangover. The only other notable new release was the live-action/CGI hybrid G-Force, which debuted in fourth place on both the DVD sales and rental charts. While The Hangover and Inglourious Basterds did finish 1-2 on the Blu-ray sales charts, Inglourious Basterds »

As we were reminded recently when we caught up with Todd Phillips, director of “The Hangover,” everyone involved with the sequel to 2009’s most surprising hit is keeping their lips zipped. All he’d reveal to us is that there’ll be more Bartha.
But, as those who’ve already enjoyed the four-buddies-in-Vegas flick will remember, a key subplot involved scandal-plagued boxer Mike Tyson. And in one of the many other interviews Phillips has done promoting this week’s “Hangover” DVD release, the filmmaker stated (joked?) that he wants to use the sequel to give the same treatment to Tiger Woods.
Yep, that Tiger Woods.
"We are going to try and get Tiger Woods for the second one...Yeah, help him regain his image,” Phillips told the website/TV show Hollyscoop. “Mike (Tyson) loved doing ‘The Hangover,’ because he loved f--king with the image people had of him. He knew »

The Hangover director Todd Phillips has already stated that the script for The Hangover 2 is half-complete and won't be set in Las Vegas. Chud reports that the sequel could in fact take place in Thailand. Apparently, Thailand was a destination that Phillips was going to use for the abandoned Old School sequel.
With the script still incomplete, no location is certain, and until Thailand is confirmed the setting will still be just a rumor. However, it does seem like a good place to wake up after a long bender.
Hangover 2 will reunite stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, and Ed Helms, and will open on Memorial Day weekend in 2011.

Hollyscoop had the chance to talk with "The Hangover" director Todd Phillips in Las Vegas while promoting the DVD release and he revealed that he wants Tiger Woods in the sequel. Phillips said, "We're going to try and get Tiger Woods for the second one...Yeah help him regain his image." They say comedy is the best cure for anything, even scandals. “Mike (Tyson) loved doing the Hangover because he loved fucking with the image people had of him. He knew we were not making fun of him but of the image people projected on him.” I'm not sure how this could possibly help the athlete's image, but I'm sure after the various companies that have dropped Woods from their ads, the golfer will take anything at this point.

Tlc won't air "The Secret Life of Tiger Woods" until Sunday, December 20, but it has released a video to promote the special show on Friday, December 18. In the 50-second clip, the network mentioned that they will present the "untold story" of world's No.1 golfer Tiger Woods and his wife Elin Nordegren with "new intimate details."
"The most famous man in Golf has rapidly become infamous thanks to recently publicized indiscretions off the green," so the description in the video read. "As Tiger shuns the media spotlight alleged former mistresses have come forward in droves to reveal salacious details about their affairs."
The promo, in addition, clips a part of the interview with the other woman. "It wasn't like boring, married couple sex. Like it was fun and exciting," the woman is heard as saying.
"The Secret Life of Tiger Woods" is actually part of NBC's "Dateline". It will be aired »

Following rumors that continue discrediting Tiger Woods, Todd Phillips has revealed he wants the golf player to star in "The Hangover 2" for the sake of rebuilding his image. "We are going to try and get Tiger Woods for the second one...Yeah help him regain his image," the helmer told Hollyscoop while promoting "The Hangover" DVD release in Las Vegas.
Claiming comedy is the best cure for anything, even scandals, Todd noted how Mike Tyson loved to be involved in the first movie. "Mike loved doing 'The Hangover' because he loved f***ing with the image people had of him. He knew we were not making fun of him but of the image people projected on him," he said.
Though Todd may sound joking, at least two stars have shown their supports for the director's idea. "If Todd says it thus will happen...might happen, you never know. »

The man himself might not recognize it, but Todd Phillips, over the course of really only a couple of mainstream hits, has built up what the French like to call an oeuvre. The Hangover, which plays almost like an indirect sequel to Phillips’s own Old School, is probably the best expression yet of the most central of the themes in that oeuvre; being, quite plainly, that dudes are awesome. In fact, that might very well be the only theme, and you can’t really blame him since all of his characters seem to be twenty-somethings just entering puberty. The central appeal of The Hangover lays primarily in Phillips’s ability to keep things in balance, allowing his guys to have fun, but reigning it in before the whole thing devolves into a chest-thumping mess.

It happens from time to time.
Came in from the cold, fed the cat and the next thing you know. There she is. Juliette Lewis filling every nook and cranny of me brain.
When actresses invade my consciousness to that degree I immediately surrender to the moment: Think about the last time I saw them (Whip It in this case which was such fun), look at pictures or videos, surf the web to find out what they're up to. In Juliette's case she's still plugging away at that music career (her last record Terra Incognito hit in September) and she's filming or was filming Due Date, Todd Phillips' follow up to The Hangover.
We'll also see her next year in Betty Anne Waters, the latest Hilary Swank vehicle. I have no idea how big her role will be but I hope she shares a scene with fellow Whip It alum Ari Graynor, »

Ever since it was announced that there will be a sequel to director Todd Phillips’ surprise hit, The Hangover, people have been asking one very obvious question:
“What the hell would it be about?”
Obviously the first Hangover dealt with the mystery and consequences of one truly awesome bachelor party in Vegas. Kind of a once-in-a-lifetime thing, right?
Well, luckily, getting blackout wasted has become a sporting hobby for some in our society, so it’s conceivable that our (heroes?) from The Hangover might one day match the epic obliteration they experienced in the first film – but where to set such a stage?
How about Thailand? Because according to a ’source close to the film,’ that’s exactly where the sequel is headed.

The sequel to The Hangover - available now on DVD and Blu-ray, incidentally - will be in theaters on Memorial Day weekend, 2011. That's a slight shift by Warner Bros. from this summer's early June release, one that really helped the film gain traction in summer's less active second month. I'm certain the massive success of the first film makes Warners think it can play anywhere, and they're probably right. Why that never applies to Harry Potter or Christopher Nolan, I have no idea.
So we have a release date and we know the cast and writer-director Todd Phillips will return but we don't have a story. That's Ok, right? I mean, the first one didn't really have much of one, either. Actually, The Hangover has a pretty involved story, loaded with tons of comedic call-backs. That it appears so simple is one of its strengths.
