The problem with found footage movies is sometimes, instead of pulling the audience closer into the action, we end up thinking that the person behind the camera is just an idiot who should have dropped it and run for his life when things got dangerous. However their are rare occassions where you can just enjoy being taken along for the ride… As is the case with Digging Up the Marrow.
Playing himself Adam Green films a documentary about a man, William Dekker (Ray Wise) who contacts him promising proof of the existence of monsters in the world. Taking Will Barratt along with him as camera man he interviews Dekker about the claims, agreeing to investigate the claims.

With Halloween in the air, we thought it would be fun to reach out to the horror genre's biggest and brightest stars - both legends in the industry and up-and-coming superstars - to ask them two quick questions: What's your biggest fear, and what's your favorite scary movie? Read on for the results!
Some of the results will make you laugh. Some will make you shiver... and some, well some are just too funny for words. Sit back and get ready to hear from the likes of Anne Rice, John Carpenter, Robert Englund, the "Ghost Adventures" crew, cast members from "The Walking Dead," George A. Romero, and many - Many - more. Who knows? You may even find some new movies you should check out or at least revisit.

The third and allegedly final chapter in the saga of unstoppable bayou killer Victor Crowley arrives on DVD and Blu-ray next month (check out our review of the film here), and Dark Sky Films has unveiled the full breakdown of features. The conclusion of a trilogy that began with Adam Green's 2006 cult splatter hit Hatchet, the third installment finds famed horror actor/stuntman Kane Hodder reprising his role as Crowley, with Danielle Harris returning as Marybeth – who thought she'd offed the monster in Hatchet II and is now hell-bent on finishing the job. The cast also includes Gremlins star Zach Galligan and Caroline Williams (shown below) of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. Hatchet III marks the directorial debut of Bj McDonnell (who worked behind the camera on features like Jack Reacher and Killer Joe), shooting from a script by Green, who also served as producer. The Hatchet III DVD and Blu-ray...

After the success of this week's red carpet premiere of Hatchet III at La’s Egyptian Theatre, Dread Central decided to take a moment and look back at the team who has brought us one of modern horror’s most enduring icons.
Joining series creator Adam Green since the very beginning were producers Cory Neal and Sarah Elbert as well as cinematographer Will Barratt. This incredible trio of creative talent not only assisted Green in the creation of his initial Hatchet short, but they have all been with him every step of the way through the trilogy that followed.
Dread Central had an opportunity to sit down with Neal, Elbert, and Barratt to get their thoughts on the phenomenally successful franchise and what it means to be a part of Green’s enduring genre legacy.

Okay, Hatchet Army! This one's for you! On tap now are some never before seen exclusive images of the legendary Kane Hodder becoming Victor Crowley and much more!
Uncle Creepy: What can you tell us about these photos?
Adam Green: One of the things we're most excited about with Hatchet III is the Victor Crowley make-up job that Robert Pendergraft and his crew at Aunt Dolly's Garage did on Kane Hodder this time around. Though the actual Crowley sculpture design is the same design that Greg Smith did for Hatchet II, this time out everything was made entirely from silicone as opposed to foam latex like the first two films. This gave Kane even more mobility and expression capability than he has ever had when performing as the character. While it was no easy feat to don the 50 pounds of silicone and carry out rigorous stunts in the sweltering Louisiana summer heat,...

The latest yearly Halloween short from Adam Green and ArieScope Pictures has landed online today, and it takes the time to answer one of the horror's genre's most burning questions via deleted scene! You have Got to see this!
In John Carpenter’s 1978 classic Halloween, “Michael Myers” was suddenly able to drive a car after having sat in a sanitarium staring at the wall since childhood. While the filmmakers addressed this slight plot hole briefly in the original movie with a throwaway line by Donald Pleasence (“Maybe someone around here gave him lessons”), we here at ArieScope Pictures were fortunate enough to track down a never-before-seen deleted scene from Halloween that thoroughly explains what really happened. Our 14th annual Halloween short film parodies our favorite slasher film of all time and stars Joel David Moore (Avatar, Dodgeball) and Kane Hodder (Hatchet 1-3, Friday The 13th 7-10) as “Michael Myers”.

The original claimed to revolutionise the horror genre in the 21st century – it didn’t. It was also hailed as one of the greatest slasher films of our time – it wasn’t. So you can pretty much hedge your bets that Hatchet 2 is likely to be the biggest piece of tripe this side of the dirty, dank Louisiana swamp from whence it came. Released today on Blu-ray and DVD, read on for our review!
More a ‘continuation’ than a sequel, Hatchet 2 picks up at the very moment the first movie ended (director Adam Green always intended to make two films – obviously no matter what audiences thought!), with feisty heroine Mary Beth (Danielle Harris) held firmly in the deformed psychopath Victor Crowley’s (Kane Hodder) clutches and facing a very watery grave. Hatchet 2 picks up right where the original film left off – only this time it’s Danielle Harris playing Marybeth, with all the gusto and heart that is befitting one of horrors true unsung scream queens – Marybeth has escaped the clutches of the vicious Victor Crowley, only to learn the true horror of her connection to the hatchet faced psycho courtesy of Tony Todd’s Reverend Zombie. Teaming up with Zombie and a handful of hunters and poachers, Marybeth heads back into the swamp to retrieve the bodies of her now-departed family and face off against Victor Crowley to take him down once and for all. If ever there was a time that we wished to be plagued with horrid nightmares brimming with terror, it's now. That's right, kids! Turn your lights down low and get ready for a sexy evening of scantily clad women protecting you from ferocious beasts!
Adam Green's ArieScope Pictures and Comedy Central's Atom.com have partnered for Sexy Nightmare Slayers, an original digital series about two scantily clad angels from heaven who protect children from the monsters under their beds, the demons in their closet, and a variety of other ghoulish creations that go bump in the night.
The pilot was directed by Adam Green, written by Daniel Beals, and stars two of the lovely ladies behind the infamous Team Unicorn: Rileah Vanderbilt (Frozen, Hatchet, Hatchet II) and Clare Grant ("Masters of Horror", The Graves).

With the release of Hatchet II on DVD comes the bitter feelings that many experienced after the film's premature pull from the theaters. After theaters pulled the unrated gore fest, fans and supporters of Adam Green took to the internet to express their angst. Now some 4 months later, fans finally get to see the film for themselves and all the extras that come along with it, as the Hatchet II Unrated Director's Cut becomes available for purchase.
Technically, Hatchet II is a terrible film. Instead of a film for horror fans in general, Hatchet II becomes more of a film geared solely towards fans of Hatchet. It's a film that cares much more about the gore than it does the story, acting and writing--and for many that is what they want out of a horror film. For the rest of us however, Hatchet II will simply not cut it. We...

The Film:
The ‘Golden Age of Gore’ was when horror films went out theatrically with either no rating or simply the words ‘No One Under 17 Will Be Admitted’. Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead 2 got spanked on the fanny by board members for a comic book style gore gag that was too red for their liking and the producers were forced to release it unrated, something that has not happened since until the release of Adam Green’s Hatchet II.
From sea to shining sea, Hatchet was hailed as the flick that would bring us back to a time when the genre walked with a confident machismo and certainty about itself. The body count was generous and the gore was gushing as it brought back memories of what was great about 80′s slashers. I enjoyed it but I did not feel like it revived anything. Too many people had it built...

Today is the release of one of our personal favorite slasher movie and in honor of the great Hatchet II, we have dug up our original review along with all the DVD and Blu-fay info needed to make an informed purchase. Director Adam Green has warned us if you don't by a copy that he will quote "kill a small kitten" but if you do buy a copy he will save one. (j/k) In all seriousness it is a fun film, not a huge fan of the first? Neither were we but we loved the sequel!....

Tony Todd is, to say the least, an imposing figure. At 6’5”, broad of frame, and with a deep, booming voice, he’s a guy who gets attention. The fact that he’s also a dependable and wholly competent actor makes him all the more impressive. Since the mid-Eighties (and his appearance in the Oliver Stone film Platoon), Todd has brought an earnestness to every role he’s done; and he’s done a lot with well over a hundred roles listed on his IMDb page.
Thrust onto the genre’s center stage in Tom Savini’s adaptation of Night of the Living Dead in 1990, Todd has worked solidly, appearing in genre and non-genre roles and in both big budget and low budget films ever since.
After a small cameo in the first Hatchet movie as Reverend Zombie, Todd returned when writer/director Adam Green revived the ominous Victor Crowley for Hatchet II.

We're just days away from the official home video release of Adam Green's controversial flick Hatchet II (amazing how a movie about a swamp monster with a wireless belt sander can be controversial, eh?), and to get you pumped for its release, we have an exclusive clip from the supplemental material for ya! Dig it!
Hatchet II picks up right where the 2007 original film ends, as Marybeth (Danielle Harris from Halloween) escapes from the clutches of the deformed, swamp-dwelling killer Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder from Friday the 13th sequels). Marybeth returns to the Louisiana swamps along with an army of hunters to recover the bodies of her family and exact her revenge against Victor Crowley. Filmmaker Jason Miller, one of the dudes behind-the-scenes on many Adam Green efforts, has a new flick on the way called Infected . It stars Hatchet II 's Alexis Peters and Brian Collins as the Monster. With cameos from Aj Bowen, Adam Green and David Foy. The film also calls on Hatchet vets Will Barratt (cinematographer), Andy Garfield, who did sound and score, and Robert Pendergraft and Aunt Dolly's Garage did the Creature & Make-Up FX. This will be hitting the film fest circuit shortly. The story is pretty simple: Shelly can't escape the monster pursuing her, but when she fights back the real horror begins. Enjoy the pics!

ArieScope alumnus Jason Richard Miller has a new horror short film on the way starring a few very familiar faces to populate his latest landscape of badassery. Get ready to be Infected!
Miller, whom you may know for his work on Adam Rifkin's "Look" The Television Series, Adam Green's Hatchet series, Frozen, Chillerama, and more, is just about ready to deliver his second short film, which you can expect to be cruising the festival circuit in early 2011.
Infected stars Hatchet II's Alexis Peters alongside Bloody Disgusting's Brian Collins as the monster. In addition to them be on the lookout for special appearances by A.J. Bowen, Adam Green, and David Foy. Will Barratt is the director of photography with Andy Garfield handling sound and score and the deliciously loony Robert Pendergraft and Aunt Dolly's Garage doling out the creature F/X along with some violence. We like when Rob does that.

Dread recently visited the set of filmmaker Tim Sullivan’s latest flick Chillerama and spent some time chatting with him, as well as the cast, regarding his rather gonzo segment of the horror-comedy anthology. Entitled "I Was A Teenage Werebear", Sullivan’s spoof of 1960’s beach blanket flicks, among others, was then filming during the wee hours of November 5th in Sycamore Cove, a state beach just north of the exclusive enclave of Malibu.
“Let me tell you what’s going on,” Sullivan (the man behind the features 2001 Maniacs and 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams, as well as the host of VH1’s recently-concluded reality series "Scream Queens 2") communicated to us of the film, while rehearsing a dance number with a dozen or so actors decked out in luau garb, as waves crashed on the beach just yards away. “It’s me and filmmakers Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2: Dead End...

So earlier this evening we broke the news first that Adam Green's Hatchet II landed itself an unrated release with a major theater chain, and there's no doubt that this is huge news for both Dark Sky and the Hatchet Army. But for the lucky fans in attendance at the standing room only Hatchet II panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, more goods were on the way!
Green and company, including R.A. Mihailoff, Parry Shen, A.J. Bowen, Danielle Harris, Tom Holland, Kane Hodder, Rileah Vanderbilt, co-producer and second unit assistant director Jason Richard Miller, and creature and make-up effects supervisor Robert Pendergraft, had a real treat for the fans in attendance in the form of a boatload of footage and a death montage that left the room screaming.
The evening started off with a viewing of the film's badass new red band teaser trailer.

Fans have been speculating just what next movie Danielle Harris was teasing about via her recent Twitter post. Now, both the actress and writer/director Adam Green have confirmed it. The Halloween alumna will be joining the cast of Hatchet 2 and going up against Victor Crowley as Marybeth, taking over the role originated by Tamara Feldman in the first film. It comes as no surprise considering Harris appeared in Green's short film On The Road To Frightfest last year. Green told us when we broke the news of his return exclusively right here that Kane Hodder will be back as Victor Crowley, while Robert Pendergraft will be taking over FX duties. Hatchet 2 is currently in pre-production and is expected to roll at the beginning of 2010. Stay tuned for plenty more casting news...

Earlier this morning we told you that Adam Green would be returning to write and direct Hatchet 2 for Anchor Bay Entertainment. We just hopped on the phone with Green, who is not only busy prepping the gory sequel, but also working on the release of his thriller Frozen (confirmed to hit theaters on February 5, 2010). Beyond the break you'll find who is returning, along with more details on Victory Crowley's upcoming massacre. First and foremost, Green agreed to return because Anchor Bay agreed to let him make the sequel he wants, and not a broader film. In addition, Green plans on doubling the body count. Makeup effects coordinator Robert Pendergraft (face rip kill) returns and promises a new, improved look for Victory Crowley. Horror icon Kane Hodder is confirmed to return as Victor Crowley/Mr. Crowley, with Tony Todd returning as Reverend Zombie and John Carl Buechler as Jack Cracker.

Last year directors Adam Green and Joe Lynch shot a series of short films detailing the duo's hilarious Road to Frightfest that ended in their eventual deaths. Well, despite their demise, every good film deserves a sequel so allow me to direct you to American Douchebags in London.
Since it was not only Frightfest's 10-Year Anniversary but also the celebration of the re-release of An American Werewolf in London, this year's round of nightly surprises featured the duo recreating their favorite scenes from the classic film.
While you may have to actually be a "FrightFester" to get all of the inside jokes that are specific to the festival's history, we're still confident that you'll get some laughs watching the horror, comedy, and cameos unfold as the boys try and make their way to the greatest genre film festival in the world...again.

September 6-12, 2008, was a busy week of serendipity, shorts, and a few surprises.
Starting with one of the surprises, I doubt anyone expected to see Tom Cruise's name associated with Hannibal in any way, even a round-about one. But now that he and United Artists have acquired the rights to Mario Spezi’s novel The Monster of Florence, upon which Thomas Harris based his iconic character, it seems anything is possible -- even Cruise himself stepping into Sir Anthony Hopkins' extremely large and accomplished shoes to tackle the role of the Monster.
If you prefer to be the one handing out the shocks and shivers, make sure you enter our Shock Festival DVD & Trailer Contest. The top five entries will be featured in the 3-disc DVD set based on both the fictional Shock Festival films and the real films that inspired them. In addition they'll be shown publicly...
