When Walter F. Parkes and Douglas Wick approached Ridley Scott to direct Gladiator, Scott was almost immediately sold for one reason. The producers presented Scott with a copy of the 1872 Pollice Verso (Thumbs Down) by Jean-Léon Gérôme, and the idea of filming an ancient Roman Empire movie caught Scott’s attention. However, Scott made it clear from the onset he had no interest in making stereotypical Roman Empire movies. Nevertheless, the inspiration behind Gladiator came from older movies. The first thing Scott sought to change was David Frazoni‘s dialogue in his original speech. To help build Gladiator‘s screenplay, Scott and...

Keanu Reeves has faced many villains in his career. He’s battled Agent Smith and the simulation itself in the Matrix series. Every John Wick movie has a new villain for him. In Speed, it was Jack Traven (Reeves) vs. bomber Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper). Originally, the Speed villain was Jack’s partner Harry (Jeff Daniels).

Speed screenwriter Graham Yost was on the Script Apart podcast on Aug. 17, 2021 to discuss his earlier drafts of the film. Yost explained how Harry would have worked as a villain, and why they changed it in later drafts.
The original ‘Speed’ script pit Keanu Reeves against a disgruntled partner
Yost’s first draft of Speed began the same way, with Harry and Jack working an elevator bombing. In the previous version, Harry became disgruntled and disillusioned after act one.

In late 1972, a writer called Cameron Crowe rang the offices of Rolling Stone with a scoop about Bob Dylan. They ran the story. What no one in the office realised, though, was that the author was only 15. Within two years, this precocious teenager from San Diego had become the youngest person ever to write a cover feature for the magazine, and was following bands from The Who to Led Zeppelin on tour, a buoyant insider high on the fumes of their jet-set lifestyle.
If this sounds like the plot of a film, that’s because it is. Almost Famous, released on 13 September 2000, was written and directed by that same Cameron Crowe, by then a household name thanks to his Oscar-winning drama Jerry Maguire (1996). Loosely based on Crowe’s own teenage adventures in rock journalism, Almost Famous is set in 1973 and follows his alter ego William Miller, a cherubic young writer...

It’s been 20 years since Gladiator asked one of the most famous questions in cinematic history: “Are you not entertained?” According to Oscar-winning producer Douglas Wick, Ridley Scott was born to make their historical epic from 2000 that collected five Academy Awards including best picture. Because of Scott’s knack for world building and visual storytelling, the project arrived at the perfect time, especially as CG was redefining what filmmakers could achieve in combination with location set builds. French artist Jean-Léon Gérôme’s 1872 painting of gladiators and spectators, “Pollice Verso,” remains one of the defining portraits of ancient Rome. With its depiction of two fighters in the Colosseum, one standing and the other vanquished, pleading for mercy, it works as a paradox: The viewer is given both a sense of moral superiority over the distant past and a discreet delight as the crowd lowers their thumbs in bloodlust, demanding death. Historically accurate or not, it sets imaginations aflutter, and it alone convinced Ridley Scott to direct Gladiator.
Producer Douglas Wick remembers that well. After all, it did lead to him winning an Academy Award for Best Picture. But long before that 2001 Oscar night, he and Walter F. Parkes, studio head of DreamWorks Pictures, were sitting in Scott’s office, trying to convince the eclectic filmmaker behind Alien and Blade Runner about the virtues of a screenplay … all the while Scott,...

Gladiator 2 seems to be gaining more and more traction. The long-gestating sequel has surprisingly been in the works for years and just a week ago, producer Walter F. Parkes finally revealed when the second movie will take place.
Now that we know the setting though, when is the film going to happen? Well, producer Doug Wick has been talking recently about the challenges of getting everyone’s schedules to line up as well as getting the story right so that it doesn’t tarnish the legacy of the first movie, and here’s what he had to say:
“Ridley would love to do it. It’s really all about getting something on paper,” Wick confirmed to ComicBook.com. “Everyone [involved with the original] loves the movie too much to ever consider cheaply exploiting it and making something that’s a shadow of it. It’s just really a clear creative problem, working on a script,...

There was once a time, not that long ago, when a movie’s story being resolutely concluded meant that there was no chance of a sequel. However, that was when an interminable succession of series installments were firmly lodged under the law of diminishing returns and not a crescendoing spectacle ever increasing in scope. As such, Gladiator 2, a sequel to Ridley Scott’s swords-and-sandals epic, is in the works, and it’s now been revealed when it’s set.
When Gladiator was released in 2000, it was the second-highest grossing film of the year, beaten only by Mission: Impossible 2, which eclipsed everything so thoroughly it wasn’t even funny, and didn’t even get points knocked off for introducing Limp Bizkit to the world. Given that the story ends (spoilers for a 20-year-old movie) with the death of its hero Maximus and his afterlife seeing him reunited with his murdered family,...

Gladiator recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. In fact, the movie was even set to return to theaters to celebrate the occasion until the pandemic happened and plans were cancelled. But still, it seems we may not’ve seen the last of the franchise, as sequel talks have been taking place.
Despite coming out in the summer, the Ridley Scott epic went on to win Oscars for Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe. It was also the fourth highest-grossing movie of 2000 and spawned a slew of swords-and-sandal films such as Troy, Alexander, and Kingdom of Heaven. Of course, Crowe’s character, Maximus, died in the end, but there’ve been rumors for years now of a Gladiator 2 script doing the rounds.

“Gladiator 2” was first announced in November 2018, and producers Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald assure fans of the swords-and-sandal action movie that a follow-up is still gearing up for production. The producers were asked by HeyUGuys about the next “Gladiator” installment and revealed, “We’re working with Ridley. That’s one we wouldn’t touch unless we felt in a way to do it was legitimate. We’re working with an amazing writer as well — Peter Craig.”
Parkes added an intriguing new detail about the script: “It picks up the story 30 years later…25 years later.”
The original report on “Gladiator 2” mentioned the sequel would focus on Lucius, the son of Connie Nielsen’s character Lucilla from Scott’s original film. Late last year it was reported that director Ridley Scott was going to move forward with Gladiator 2. This project is still in active development and today we have new details to share with you.
It’s kind of crazy that we are actually getting a sequel to this movie almost 20 years after the first movie was released. According to producer Walter F. Parkes, the story for the sequel will pick up “ 30 years later… 25 years later.” Three decades after the death of Russell Crowe’s character Maximus.
Maximus will not be in the movie, obviously. But fans still think it’s an odd choice to make a sequel to the movie. In regards to that, producer Laurie MacDonald says that nobody would be moving forward on the project if they didn't think there was a great way to do it:

As Men In Black: International gives the franchise a soft reboot, we revisit the private battles of the first three films
All things considered, it's pretty astonishing that Men In Black: International seems to have come together in just over 18 months. Starring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson in the lead roles, F. Gary Gray's spin-off film was announced in 2017, started shooting last July, and arrives in cinemas this week. All films are difficult to make, but compared with each installment of the original trilogy starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, it sounds like it was a doddle to make.
Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, the three films are loosely inspired by Malibu Comics' The Men In Black, a six-issue sci-fi series penned by Lowell Cunningham. To give you an idea of how long it took to bring to the screen,...

Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are kicking ass in London and all over the world in their black suits, replacing Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith.
Sony has set a June 14, 2019 release date for Columbia Pictures’ comedic sci-fi actioner, which F. Gary Gray has directed from a screenplay by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Whereas the original films were centered in New York City, the new take sees Agent M (Thompson) join the covert Mib organization dedicated to policing the alien population hiding in plain sight on Earth. She is partnered with Agent H (Hemsworth) in the London bureau to stop a potential global catastrophe. Emma Thompson and Liam Neeson also star.
Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are producing, and Steven Spielberg is serving as executive producer.

People of Earth, behold. A new “Men in Black: International” trailer dropped at midnight Thursday, with Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson starring as the new London-based Men in Black agents.
The spinoff is being compared to “Jurassic World,” in that it will take the series in a newer, bigger direction while giving a nod to the previous films and characters in the series. It also stars Liam Neeson, Kumail Nanjiani, Rafe Spall, Rebecca Ferguson, and Emma Thompson.
In this London-based adventure, the new recruits tackle their biggest, most global threat to date: a mole in the Men in Black organization. From the looks of this trailer, there are some cute little aliens too. And some flying cars. But, sadly, no Will Smith songs that sample Patrice Rushen songs. But we can dream. Unless they won’t let us remember. Oh, come on, you know the song.

When the first trailer for Men in Black International was released, I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw! The F. Gary Gray-directed film seems to have the same style and vibe as the original films. But this time around the story will focus on a completely new set of lead characters.
Thanks to EW, we have some new story and character details to share with you along with some new photos. The report reveals that the story is kicked into gear after “an emissary from a powerful alien government is killed on H’s watch, he and M have to team up to identify the killer — and locate the mole whose existence has become a mortal threat to the agency’s core mission of protecting Earth from the scum of the universe.”

Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are the Men in Black for a new generation — and for a new geographical location. Sony released the “Men in Black: International” trailer on Thursday, and like original new recruit Agent Jay (Will Smith) once famously boasted, new agents M (Thompson) and H (Hemsworth) “make this look good.”
The mysterious Men in Black have always protected the Earth from the scum of the universe. In this London-based adventure, the new recruits tackle their biggest, most global threat to date: a mole in the Men in Black organization. That’s Sony’s description at least.

In addition to Hemsworth and “Westworld” actress Tessa Thompson, “Men in Black: International” also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Kumail Nanjiani, Rafe Spall, Laurent Bourgeois, Larry Bourgeois, Emma Thompson and Liam Neeson.

After proving their onscreen chemistry in “Thor: Ragnarok,” Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth are back on the front lines in the trailer for F. Gary Gray’s latest “Men in Black” entry. This time, the stars are trading in their Asgardian armor for agency issued black suits.
“The universe has a way of leading you to where you’re supposed to be at the moment you’re supposed to be there,” Liam Neeson’s character, the head of the UK branch of Mib, says in the new clip. After Thomason and Hemsworth team up, the footage launches into a montage of action-packed sequences with the agents touting heavy armor and sleek looks.

After years of planning, the Men in Black film franchise will move forward, this time with a spinoff movie focused on new characters.
Discussions over the past few years about a prospective crossover between Men In Black and the rebooted cop comedy 21 Jump Street film franchises have just been flashed with a proverbial neuralyzer device. Sony Pictures has made the decision to move forward from the stalled crossover idea with plans for an Mib spinoff film instead, that advances the extraterrestrial immigration agent legacy.
THR is reporting that the Men In Black franchise will continue with a spinoff movie that shifts focus away from Will Smith's Agent J and Tommy Lee Jones's Agent K to a new generation of suit-sporting enforcers.
The script will be written by Matt Holloway and Art Marcum, the duo behind 2008’s Marvel Cinematic Universe-launching Iron Man and the recent Transformers: The Last Knight.
