It's the mid-week report of the good, bad and you-know-what-the-what here, as we compile the movie news from the past week and a half. Yes, you'll have more at the end of the week—but for now, let us all cringe together as we see stomach news of the 2012 motion sickness experience, an Mib without Will Smith, and the audacity of some people to shoot a barely visible topless scene and hype it up like it was Basic Instinct 3.
The Good
• For years, there have been several attempts to do a sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, none of them ever came close to moving ahead. Speaking to MTV last week, director Robert Zemeckis set the record straight: that this time he is personally involved and really excited to do the sequel, and that he has commissioned original scribes Jeffrey Price and Peter Seaman to write the screenplay. Let's hope »

Producer Barrie Osborne might be asking for trouble with this one. As anyone who watches Family Guy knows, visual depictions of the prophet Muhammad, the founder of the religion of Islam, are prohibited. This isn't explicitly stated in the Qur'an, there are a few traditions of Islam that forbid him from being depicted in a manner other than oral or written descriptions. Despite all of this, Osborne, who produced both The Matrix and the Lord of the Rings trilogies, is setting off on a quest to bring the story of Muhammad to the big screen. Budgeted at around $150m , the film will chart Muhammad's life and examine his teachings. Osborne told Reuters (via Guardian UK) that he envisages it as "an international epic production aimed at bridging cultures. The film will educate people about the true meaning of Islam." Osborne's production will reportedly feature English-speaking Muslim actors, and is backed by the Qatar-based production company Alnoor Holdings »

It's not every day I get to tag a /Film story with 'Muhammad'. So I guess I should thank evident crackpot producer Barrie Osborne, one of the men behind The Matrix and Lord of the Rings, because he wants to make a giant film about Muhammad. Yes, that Muhammad -- the founder and prophet of Islam. A couple of cartoons depicting his image were once enough to generate a global outcry. (Visual depictions of the prophet are forbidden by Islamic law in some sects.) How will things work out when a producer puts up twenty-four pictures of him every second? Poorly, which is why Muhammad will not be seen in the movie that depicts his life. In a way, this could be an interesting formal exercise: how do you make a movie about a person without ever putting them on screen? (Answer: get the Coen Brothers to make The Muhammed »

American producer Barrie Osborne has done a lot of things right — producing “The Matrix” with the brothers Wachowski and the “Lord of the Rings” franchise with Peter Jackson, for example. That’s a pretty good resume right there, but apparently Barrie Osborne would like some controversy with his breakfast, because he’s planning what he calls an “international epic” bio-pic on Islam’s Prophet Muhammad. The International film, budgeted at $150 million, is aimed at “bridging cultures” and “[educating] people about the true meaning of Islam”. In a not-surprising twist, the movie will not actually show the Prophet or his family (in accordance with Islamic law), and will instead just show his effects on people and the world. Which begs the question: How do you make a bio-pic about someone’s life without showing that person? And if you can’t show the person you’re making a whole movie about, what’s the point? »

If you know him, now might be a really good time to unfriend Barrie Osborne on Facebook. He.s a Hollywood producer, probably best known for his work on films like The Matrix and Lord of the Rings, and now he.s producing a movie which may make him the target of religious extremists. The Guardian says Osborne.s making a biopic about the prophet Muhammad. People have been murdered for simply drawing pictures of the Islamic religious figure, now just imagine how well his biopic will go over. Hell, I.m nervous just reporting on this movie.s existence. The comments second on this post will now inevitably fill up with people claiming Islam is a religion of peace, and that may well be true, but the world.s recent track record when it comes to depicting this particular dude isn.t exactly cheery. Still, Osborne has managed to »

A movie about the prophet Muhammad is in the works, according to Reuters. According to reports, the $150 million film will bring together a major hollywood producer and a Sunni imam banned from entering Britian. Producer Barrie Osborne, a producer of both The Matrix and The Lord Of The Rings is organizing the film. The Times reports that Sheikh Yousef al-Qaradawi will work as the film's theological consultant. Al-Qaradawi hosts a show on the Arab-language network al Jazeera. According to the BBC, Al-Qaradawi was denied entry to Britain in February 2008. The UK's Home Office said that it would not tolerate those who sought to justify acts of terrorist violence. The Times: [Al-Qaradawi] is also a highly controversial figure who was refused entry to Britain last year because of his views. He has reportedly condoned the Holocaust, supported the stoning of homosexuals... »

Oscar-winning producer Barrie M. Osborne is best known for fantastical films employing messianic characters, specifically "The Matrix" and the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Lately though, he's focusing directly on religious material rather than stories that reference those texts. Osborne is already at work on "Kingdom Come," a Biblical epic about the life of Jesus, which will be directed by "Lord of the Rings" visual effects artist Dean Wright. And now, according to The Guardian, he's planning a $150 million film about Muhammad, the founder of Islam.
Osborne's film, which will follow Muhammad's life from birth to death and His teachings, will not feature an on-screen depiction of the Prophet. The New Zealand-based producer is working with a production company out of Qatar and has employed Muslim scholar Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi to oversee the project throughout shooting. The producer told Reuters it will be "an international epic production aimed at bridging cultures. »

A $150 million superproduction about the founder of Islam, the prophet Mohammed, is underway. The American producer of "Face/Off", as well as "The Matrix" and "The Lord of the Rings" trilogies, Barrie Osborne, has taken on this ambitious project in collaboration with a powerful media group based in Qatar, Alnoor Holdings, to create an "international epic production aimed at bridging cultures" and to "educate people about the true meaning of Islam". In accordance with Muslim rules, the prophet Mohammed himself will never appear onscreen in the movie, which is set to be released as early as 2011.... »

When Sngmoo Lee's debut film was initially announced, the title was Laundry Warrior. Now that far more distinctive title has been ditched for the less provocative, perhaps even less mysterious, The Warrior's Way. A promo reel for the Wuxia Western - think Samurai swordplay on the old West frontier - has appeared to leak online, via YouTube where it was discovered by 24fps. As it is unofficial and premature, don't expect it to be entirely indicative of the finished product (as if that was ever true of officially sanctioned trailers anyway) but you can catch it after the break and get, I think, a good idea of the fun in store. Writer-director Sngmoo Lee was a teacher on Nyu's film course for five years before teaming with Lord of the Rings producer Barrie Osborne to realise this picture. The cast includes Geoffrey Rush as the town drunk and Kate Bosworth »

The first promo trailer for Lee Sngmoo's "The Warrior's Way" has been making its way out for viewing pleasure. Unlike any other trailers, this video which was first found by 24Fps lasts for nearly four minutes. It gives out first glimpses into what this fantasy action film has to offer as well as shares a little bit of Yang's background story.
Opened with a narration about Yang training to be world's greatest swordsman, the trailer displays how good he was before he ran away to a faraway land and put his past behind. There, in a forgotten American west town, he meets a circus knife thrower Lynne who has powerful secrets. When Lynne gets into trouble, Yang is forced to make use of his sword skills to save her.
Directed and written by Lee Sngmoo, "The Warrior's Way" is produced by "Lord of the Rings" producer Barrie Osborne. Formerly titled »

I never thought I would see that day when I would write an article and when it came to choosing categories for our search options I would click both Martial Arts and Western. But here we are…
I think the last movie I saw involving Asian swordsmen plying their trade in the Western landscape was… what? And I don’t mean something like Shanghai Noon. I mean honest to goodness swordsmen hacking it out against cowboys. Once Upon A Time in China and America? Or am I going back farther to Red Sun with Bronson and Mifune? But look at this! This is a martial arts western called The Warriors Way. It was once called Laundry Warrior and either that was deemed insensitive to all the Chinese immigrants who settled in the West at that time or the title itself wasn’t appealing. So what is really going on here? »

A first promo reel for Sngmoo Lee’s English language; Western, fantasy, martial arts action movie “The Warriors Way” has hit the net and we have to say it’s all looking simply fantastic so far. Originally titled “Laundry Warrior” (thankfully they saw sense and dropped that title like a hot brick) it stars Korean actor Dong-Kun Jang as Yang the world’s most deadly sword master. Fleeing Asia to escape his bloody past he settles down in a forgotten American west town, only to get caught up in a battle for survival with local bandits. Not the most original of plots we’ll grant you but Jang English language performance appears credible, the effects look top class and with the likes of "Lord of the Rings" producer Barrie Osborne overseeing the project and Kate Bosworth and Geoffrey Rush adding some kudos in the co-star dept. Ee don’t see where they can wrong. »
