This Is Us wasn’t just a phenomenon amongst its viewers — it was also an on-set experience unlike anything the show’s stars had been through before. Now, with that show in the rear-view mirror, Justin Hartley has moved on to a new project, Tracker. Hartley not only stars in the action drama, but is also one of the show’s executive producers, alongside This Is Us (and thirtysomething) alum Ken Olin. And having that familiar face working with him behind the camera, Hartley said that’s one of the reasons why he’s enjoying Tracker just as much as he enjoyed This Is Us. The quest continues to reboot thirtysomething for the small screen.
Original series star Peter Horton, who played Gary Shepherd in the drama that aired from 1987 to 1991 on ABC, gave his followers an update Wednesday on where the project stands. He first engaged fans about the possibility last August by asking them to “try blasting” Amazon Studios and MGM Studios about doing the reboot.
“The bad news,” he wrote on X Wednesday, “Amazon has decided not to program our reboot. Good news: they gave us permission to take it out wide! Take it anywhere without encumbrance. This is big! So keep it up. Stay tuned for progress reports! Keep up the pressure!!!”

CBS has renewed “Tracker” for a second season.
Based on Jeffery Deaver’s novel “The Never Game,” the series stars Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw, a lone-wolf survivalist who roams the country as a reward seeker, using his expert tracking skills to help private citizens and law enforcement solve mysteries while contending with his own fractured family.
The series premiere aired directly after the Super Bowl — which Nielsen measured as the most-watched telecast of all time — and reached 18.4 million viewers, a number that Paramount Global says has now grown to 30 million across platforms. Three more episodes have aired since, and continue to perform strongly without football lead-in: Episode 2 hit 6.9 million viewers, Episode 2 hit 7.1 million and Episode 3 hit 7.4 million.
The series was created for television by Ben H. Winters, who executive produces alongside Hartley, Ken Olin and Elwood Reid. Deaver serves as producer. 20th Television is the studio.

CBS has found its first series renewal for the 2024-25 broadcast season.
The network has renewed Tracker, its Justin Hartley-led drama, for a second season. The series launched Feb. 11 in TV’s best time slot — after the Super Bowl — and now ranks as the No. 1 show, according to Nielsen’s most current data, with 16 million multiplatform viewers. The network says Tracker is its most watched new series since Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon debuted in the 2017-18 season.
“Tracker kicked off our premiere week with a ratings bang and has kept the momentum going,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “We knew we had something special when we saw the very first cut of the series and the overwhelming audience response confirms it. The series premiere of “Tracker” reached an average 18.4 million viewers on CBS on Sunday.
Titled “Klamath Falls,” the episode hit this height thanks to massive lead-in from Super Bowl Lviii, which aired directly beforehand and became the most-watched telecast of all time, hitting an average viewership of 123.4 million people. “Tracker” retained at least 15% of the game’s audience.
It should be noted that the Super Bowl stat accounts for viewership across CBS, Paramount+, Nickelodeon, Univision, CBS Sports and NFL digital properties, while the “Tracker” figure refers only to CBS viewership and will soon increase when data becomes available regarding viewership on Paramount+, CBS.com and the CBS app.
“Tracker” wasn’t the only show to benefit from the Super Bowl’s success: “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” aired next and reached 3.7 million viewers, its best viewership since 2021, while “After Midnight” followed and hit a series high of 2 million viewers.

CBS’s Tracker premiered after the Super Bowl, a time slot that usually benefits from having the Big Game as a lead-in. Unfortunately, this year’s Super Bowl went into overtime, which meant episode one was delayed on the East Coast until 11pm. After the ratings were revealed, it turned out the late start did not affect viewership, with the series premiere bringing in 18.4 million viewers. That makes Tracker the most-watched primetime entertainment program after the Super Bowl since 2021’s debut of The Equalizer.
Episode two, “Missoula,” settles into the series’ regular time slot, airing on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 9pm Et/Pt. Justin Hartley leads the cast as Colter Shaw, Fiona Rene plays Reenie Green, and Robin Weigert is Teddi. Abby McEnany stars as Velma and Eric Graise is Bobby Exley.
“Missoula” Plot: Colter tracks down a missing young man who has been pulled into a deadly cult and doesn’t want to be found.

For actor Justin Hartley, Super Bowl Sunday brought an extra level of excitement beyond being the biggest night in professional sports. Hartley, spending the weekend in Las Vegas leading up to the big game, was debating whether his favorite football team, The Chicago Bears, should keep their current quarterback, Justin Fields, or use their No. 1 draft pick in April to select Caleb Williams (who many sports analysts are calling a generational player in that position).
But the biggest reason for anticipation around Sunday’s match-up between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs was that the game served as the lead-in for the This Is Us star’s next series, Tracker, which aired immediately after the game on CBS.
Executive produced by Harley and former This Is Us producer/director Ken Olin, Tracker is based on the best-selling novel The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver. The book follows the...

Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw in ‘Tracker’ season 1 episode 1
CBS’s new primetime action-drama, Tracker, is set to premiere in the coveted timeslot immediately following Super Bowl Lviii. The Big Game is always a big draw, but even more viewers are expected to tune in because of the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce romance. CBS has high hopes those viewers will stick around to check out Justin Hartley taking on the lead role in Tracker after six seasons on This Is Us.
Tracker is based on Jeffrey Deaver’s bestselling novel The Never Game and stars Hartley as Colter Shaw, a survivalist who travels via Rv all over the country to find missing people (or items) and collect the rewards. Colter, who prefers to be known as a “rewardist” rather than bounty hunter, has support from a close-knit team played by Robin Weigert, Abby McEnany, Eric Graise, and Fiona Rene.

This Is Us ended its six-season run in 2022, but Justin Hartley didn’t have to look far for his next project once he read Jeffery Deaver’s The Never Game at the urging of Ken Olin, executive producer and director of both This Is Us and Tracker. The novel, about a skilled “reward seeker” named Colter Shaw who solves mysteries with his tracking skills, instantly resonated with the actor. “Ken goes, ‘I think there’s something there,’” recalls Hartley. “I loved the book and the character. CBS bought it on the phone pretty much.” Here, Hartley—who also serves as an executive producer on the series—reveals more. This is different from This Is Us and Kevin Pearson…or is it? This is Us alum Justin Hartley plays a lone-wolf survivalist, Colter Shaw, seeking to solve mysteries in the trailer for CBS’ Tracker drama, which dropped on Friday.
“You collect rewards, right?” he’s asked at one point in the trailer. “I prefer the term ‘rewardist.’ Everyone’s looking for something,” Shaw answers as he makes his way through a forest.
CBS will use the Super Bowl, the biggest TV event of the season, as a plum promotional launch pad for Tracker on Feb. 11, as the drama starring Hartley will finally bow after it was picked up to series in December 2022.
As Shaw travels across the U.S. to resolve mysteries, at another point in the trailer he is seen giving first aid to a young woman injured while on a wilderness adventure. He takes the time to offer some advice: “How you survive is you make quick, smart decisions. You remain calm.

Justin Hartley is heading back to the Super Bowl. Hartley’s new CBS drama “Tracker” has landed the best lead-in imaginable for a series premiere: The show has landed the coveted post-Super Bowl slot next season, launching behind Super Bowl Lviii on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024.
Hartley, of course, knows a thing or two about that slot. As one of the stars of NBC’s “This Is Us,” he watched a Crock Pot tear his TV family apart in that show’s very special “Super Bowl Sunday” episode, airing right after the big game in 2018.

Conservative figures like Candace Owens rejoiced at the news, while Musk fueled the divisive flames by tweeting statements like, “Comedy is now legal on Twitter.
On Friday, The Washington Post reported on The New Contagion Research Institute’s (Ncri) discovery that use of the N-word on Twitter had increased 500 percent in the 12 hours since the announcement. In addition to increased use of the N-word, racial slurs against Black and Jewish people grew, as well as messages against women and the LGBTQ+ community. Whoopi Goldberg has become the latest celebrity to announce they’re leaving Twitter in the wake of Elon Musk’s takeover.
The View co-host made the announcement on her ABC show Monday.
“It’s been a little over a week since Elon Musk took over Twitter and this place is a mess,” she said. “I’m getting off today because I just feel like it’s so messy, and I’m tired of now having certain kinds of attitudes blocked now getting back on. So I’m gonna get out, and if it settles down enough and I feel more comfortable maybe I’ll come back. But as of tonight, I’m done with Twitter.”
Goldberg listed all the whiplash announcements Musk has made since completing his takeover of the social media platform — such as the new blue checkmark program going from 20 to 8, and staff firings and re-hirings.

Ever since Elon Musk announced he would buy Twitter in April, a number of prominent showbiz types have had a sinking feeling. Some of them, like Mia Farrow, announced at the time that they were considering quitting.
The actress wrote in April, “Well if Twitter becomes even more toxic—with Trumpy-treasonous lies & all the hatred—it will be taken less seriously, and people like me will quit—for peace of mind.”
She has since modulated that stance expressing hope that Musk can “keep Twitter worthy of your previous achievements and of lawful people everywhere.”
Wrestling legend Mick Foley wrote in April, “I’ll be giving some serious thought to leaving [Twitter] for good in the near future…I do not have a good feeling about where this platform is heading.”
It looks like Foley did, indeed, delete his Twitter account in the past few days after Musk officially took over, but...

Twitter’s head of safety and integrity says the platform is facing a “trolling campaign” of racist abuse after a report found that the use of the N-word jumped on the social media site less than a day after Elon Musk’s takeover.
In a thread Saturday, Twitter’s Yoel Roth explained that the platform’s policies around hateful conduct on the platform have not shifted since Musk officially took over Friday despite reports of increasing use of slurs and targeted harassment. “Hateful conduct has no place here. And we’re taking steps to put a stop to an organized effort to make people think we have,” Twitter’s head of safety and integrity tweeted.
While Roth confirmed that in the last two days Twitter has seen an uptick in hateful conduct from users, he attributed what’s happening to “a small number...

Now that Elon Musk has taken over Twitter in a deal worth a reported 44 billion, concerns are being shared that the controversial billionaire may ditch the social media platform’s guidelines on hate speech and unleash a hate-filled free for all. Meanwhile, there are also fears that Musk may reinstate the Twitter privileges of Donald Trump after the ex-president’s ban following the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riot last year.
This is leading some celebrities to question their allegiance to the site.
