Barry Bostwick and Julie Hagerty have joined the cast of TBS’ half-hour comedy pilot Bff, from Conan O’Brien’s production company and Warner Horizon. It centers on Mark (Jay Malone), a family man who quits his day job and returns to the neighborhood where he grew up. There, he reunites with his quirky childhood best friend Roland (David Neher), who still lives with his parents (Bostwick, Hagerty), who have lived in the same suburban house for 40 years. The project, from O’Brien’s Conaco Prods and Warner Horizon, was written by Ben Wexler, who serves as showrunner, Ross Novie and Jay Rondot. Andrea Martin rounds out the cast of USA/Ucp’s untitled Douglas McGrath comedy pilot. The single-camera comedy, which McGrath wrote and will direct, centers on Jasper (Nathan Lane), an unlucky actor whose Broadway aspirations must be put on hold when his father’s (Ken Jenkins) health...

Some people cringe when you refer to the web as a development ground (or minor leagues) for TV. And rightly so, the moniker is too limiting for what amounts to a super-fragemented online community of millions of avid surfers. Not every web series is meant for TV. That doesn't stop network development execs from scouring video sites for the latest tweet-worthy vids. With tonight's premiere of Secret Girlfriend on Comedy Central, we have the latest data point to test the development lab theory. What started as a mobile phone series, that was later released as a web series through Atomic Wedgie, was able to catch the eye of development execs enough to order up six half-hour episodes. The show's creators, Jay Rondot and Ross Novie, have been at the online content game for a while, finding some success with their series The Rascal for Sony's Crackle as well as the...

Out of the handful of webshows that have inked TV deals, so far only the sci-fi, fantasy series Sanctuary has actually made it onto television broadcast airwaves. Sci Fi also picked up online original God Inc. in mid-2007 and CBS nabbed We Need Girlfriends later that year, but last I heard both shows are lingering in development purgatory. You can see Atom TV on Comedy Central, but that doesn’t really count. Neither does Quarterlife. Eli’s Dirty Jokes might qualify, but I digress… Now you can add Atomic Wedgie’s Secret Girlfriend to that very short list of online series that have made the jump to TV. Variety reports Comedy Central has greenlight six, 30-minute episodes of the show featuring real girls, all of whom are cute, funny, and absolutely, positively wild about you, the viewer. Creators Jay Rondot and Ross Novie are slated to executive produce the series,...

Comedy Central is bringing Secret Girlfriend to TV. The network just green lit the scripted half-hour comedy, which is based on a successful Web series. The network has ordered six episodes of Girlfriend, which features the viewer as the "star" of a twenty-something dating satire, with all the actors addressing the camera as if it were the lead. Girlfriend, which is produced by FremantleMedia North America, originates from a Web-based series developed by company’s Atomicwedgietv.com channel. Eric Weinberg (Scrubs, Californication) will serve as show-runner and executive producer. Jay Rondot and Ross Novie, who created the Web series, are also on board to executive produce. Girlfriend will be recast for television. The new series is expected to premiere in the latter part of 2009, probably running in the 10-11 p.m. time period. You can watch a bit of the original web series below and head on over here for some more.

B&C is reporting that Comedy Central has ordered an 11-minute pilot based on the Secret Girlfriend web series from FremantleMedia's AtomicWedgieTV. Created by Rondovie Industries — Jay Rondot and Ross Novie, the creators of The Rascal and Space is the Place, the series features an adorable and possibly “unstable” girl gabbing to the camera about her relationship. There's a new girl every few videos, letting you break up with one and move on to another, so to speak. The TV pilot will grab from the original series, though apparently more from the male perspective following the "a twentysomething guy and his slacker friends, 'living the dream' in the pursuit of sex, beer and more sex.” If it's picked up, it will be the first time Comedy Central has ventured into the 11-minute program length, taking a nod from competitor Adult Swim's shorter-form time blocks. Comedy Central's Atom TV block on Monday nights,...
