Shark Night 3D That entity known as the big old bad MPAA just pounded their gavel and handed in their verdict for an awful lot of horror films during the past week. I have to say I am mighty surprised at the rating that Shark Night 3D got. Didn't see that one coming what so ever. It's the first time I have truly been surprised by one of their ratings since they originally gave "How to Deal" an R rating for language. So take a peek for yourself to see what ratings the MPAA handed down. I discovered a few new titles just seeing this list myself.
The Incubus is rated PG-13 for some violence and sexual content.
How does a town of 500 people just disappear? Marnie Rose, the niece of the town's church pastor is plagued with a life of abuse and neglect for all of the nineteen years...

IFC will release the 2009 Australian thriller In Her Skin, based on the true story of a 1999 abduction and murder in Melbourne, on DVD on June 7.
Guy Pearce searches for answers in In Her Skin.
Written and directed by Simone North, the movie boasts the impressive cast of Guy Pearce (Memento), Sam Neill (Daybreakers) and Miranda Otto (Lord of the Rings).
The film’s story revolves around a 19-year-old named Caroline (Ruth Bradley) who stalks, abducts and ultimately slays 15-year-old Rachel Barber (Kate Bell), who Caroline idolizes and considers to be “perfect.” Rachel’s disappearance prompts her parents (Pearce, Otto) to take immediate action, though the police seem to be indifferent about the situation. The truth eventually comes out, but not without a price.
Entitled I Am You for much of its international release, In Her Skin received a tiny release in theaters in the U.S. in February but is...

Seriously, can someone explain to me why Guy Pearce isn't in... everything? Why does he not get more parts? And while we're at it, can we all agree that some of the most impressive films coming out these days are coming from Australia? As if I didn't love that country enough. Of course, child kidnapping and murder movies aren't exactly what we think of when we think of Australia, but damn if In Her Skin doesn't look pretty good.
Speaking of underused actors, that same applies to Miranda Otto. Woman is amazing. In Her Skin (actual title is I Am You, but apparently it's international release is getting a name change) is written and directed by Simone North, and is based on a (creepy as fuck) true story.

Here’s one that’s been flying completely under my radar for what looks like two years. Titled I Am You (thought it was originally known as In Her Skin), Simone North’s Australian drama is centered on the parents of a young girl in search of their missing daughter.
Rachel is a talented dancer who doesn’t return home from a trip to the city. Her parents, with the help of police, start a search for the missing girl which turns up no new information. The persistent parents continue their search alone and uncover new information that suggests this isna't a case of a runaway but that a nearby neighbour may be responsible for the disappearance.
It’s pretty standard fare but what isn’t standard is the outstanding cast. The film stars Guy Pearce and Miranda Otto in lead roles as the parents of the missing girl while...

It might not serve as the most compelling blurb, but “a more palatable Lovely Bones” accurately sums up Simone North’s debut feature In Her Skin, which chronicles the murder of an Australian 15-year-old by her former babysitter. The first red flag is the opening title card, which reads “This is a true story.” The use of “is” rather than “based on” or “inspired by” is a harbinger of the lack of perspective and humility that enables the film’s most egregious excesses. North splits her story into thirds, focusing first on the girl’s parents, played by Guy Pearce ...

SYDNEY -- Sam Neill, Guy Pearce and Miranda Otto will star in new Australian crime drama How to Change in 9 Weeks, which begins shooting in Queensland this week, distributor Icon Film Distribution said Wednesday.
And in an unusual move for an Australian film, director Simone North and producer Tony Cavanaugh have tapped director-producer Sidney Lumet to serve as a mentor for North in her debut feature as a writer-director.
Lumet, who has been advising North for the past year as the project has developed, was bought on board by the film's co-producer, former Universal Pictures president Thom Mount.
Mount and Cavanaugh are producing the feature, which also will shoot in Melbourne, through North and Cavanaugh's production shingle Liberty Films International.
North and Cavanaugh have produced and directed a string of successful Australian telefilms and TV series.
The thriller is based on the story of a 15-year-old Australian student, Rachel Barber, who went missing in Melbourne in 1999 and was found to have been murdered by a former childhood friend, Caroline Reid.
