"I woke up with the song in my head called 'Half of My Heart.' And the idea is that it's this real sort of updated — not that it needs to be updated — sort of Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks thing. I thought, 'Well, if this is going to be my love letter to that style of music, who's going to be the Stevie Nicks in this equation?' And I thought, 'This Taylor Swift girl is going to be around for a long time.'"
-Singer, songwriter, guitar player and Internet meme aficionado John Mayer, talking about his collaboration with Taylor Swift. "Half of My Heart," which hit the Web on Thursday, comes from Mayer's upcoming album Battle Studies. Not surprisingly, the first seeds of the collaboration were planted on Twitter, where both Mayer and Swift are skilled regulars. He expressed a desire to work with her via the microblogging service, »

John Mayer is poised to release his latest album, Battle Studies, later this month. And while fans will enjoy trying to figure out which songs could possibly be about Jennifer Aniston, they will also get to hear his sweet duet with Taylor Swift.
"She is on the record," he told MTV News, adding that the collaboration, which appeared online Friday, originally came together after he tweeted that he wanted to work with the singer. "You know what — it's like the tweet version of the secret, no better way to put it out into the universe than to tweet it."
Swift also openly expressed a desire to work with Mayer in interviews, but the details of how it actually came »

Fleetwood Mac are planning to release a new album. The legendary band - who kick off their 'Unleashed' tour in Glasgow, Scotland, on Thursday (22.10.09) - want to go back into the studio next year to start work on their first LP of original material since 2003's 'Say You Will'. Singer Stevie Nicks says fans have a lot more to look forward to from the band, but say they can only start recording when they complete their dates. She said: "When we're on the road, we barely have time to go and have a meal, let alone write new material. But in January we'll have a meeting and decide what to do." The legendary singer also claims the band »

Let me just say that this week's "Project Runway" challenge should have been a home run (or at least a lot easier than dyeing crappy 1980s wedding dresses) for our intrepid designers, but instead it only results in some of the worst Stevie Nicks/Britney Spears bedazzled, craptastic leftovers you could ever imagine. But with a guest judge/sequinholic like Bob Mackie at the judges' table, you couldn't exactly expect subtlety and sophistication. I swear I'm crossing my fingers waiting for Tim to announce, in his sober and avuncular way, that one week's challenge will be dressing pre-op drag queens or street hookers,... »

Today's installment is brought to you by the letter C. There is a lot of mediocre music out there. This is some of it, of fairly recent vintage. None of it is terrible, and it might be worth a listen or two. Or not.
The Cave Singers -- Welcome Joy
Members of The Cave Singers can claim a great but underappreciated punk band as part of their legacy -- Seattle's Pretty Girls Make Graves -- so I had high hopes for this Americana incarnation. Alas, two chords may make for bracing punk anthems, but they quickly grow tedious as the foundation for front-porch hootenannies. Lead singer Pete Quirk has a Stevie Nicks ovine bleat that he almost compensates for through an abundance of raspiness and soulful energy, but in the end there's too little variety in the songs. And when you focus on a genre known for pickin' and grinnin', »

Q: I´ve been reading the Kathy Griffin book and while it was much less fun than I was hoping for, there was something that really annoyed me -- besides the fact that in her world "the gays" is a synonym for hair dresser or shopping buddy. Kinda makes me wish she´d actually let me at her hair to change that attitude. Anyway, in the book she says that Andy Dick got punched in the face by Wesley Snipes for using (and I quote) "the n-word" in a club. Later there is another Dick story about one of his stand-up appearances where he called the audience repeatedly (and I quote again) "faggots.” So why isn´t it "the n-word" and "the f-word" Or "nigger" and "faggot"? -- Thomas, »

The summer is nearly done, which means that the festival season is also nearing its end. That's why we're going out with a bang, as MTV News will bring you updates from the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park this weekend. Starting tomorrow, Pearl Jam, the Black Eyed Peas, Dave Matthews Band, Tenacious D, Jason Mraz, M.I.A. and, uh, Tom Jones will be covering the park with hot tracks, and we'll be there to take it all in, talk to the stars and deliver late-breaking news.
Obviously, the headliners will pack a punch, but here are the five acts on the undercard who may not have giant audiences or multi-platinum sales but who always manage to deliver at festivals.

Phone calls from Justin Timberlake and Billy Joel to Kathy Griffin's celebrity guests on this past season of My Life on the D-List weren't included on the show because neither would sign a release, she said Saturday during her tour appearance in Orlando. As part of the quasi-chat show format, she had her guests call people she herself couldn't get on the phone, like when Bette Midler called Stevie Nicks. While they were eating at... keep reading » » read the full story and comment, or find the latest news about Kathy Griffin

Erika Jayne is Billboard Hot Dance Airplay's champ one more time as her new single "Give You Everything" secures the hot spot on the U.S. dance tracks chart. The song wins over hit singles from the likes of The Pussycat Dolls, Katy Perry, Sean Kingston and Lady GaGa. This is the third time Erika reigns the chart as she also sat at number 1 with her two previous singles, "Rollercoaster" (2007) and "Star" (2008).
"Give You Everything" has been released for digital download since April alongside its remixes which come from music's hottest talents including DJ Escape & Johnny Vicious, Moto Blanco, Mike Rizzo and Dave Aude. The song is the third single from Erika's forthcoming debut album "Pretty Mess" which will hit U.S. market on August 11.
A music video for the track has been debuted since March. Pairing her up with Grammy-nominated music video director Marty Thomas and choreographer Mikey Minden, »

While Twilight fans are left wondering what to think now that Rachelle Lefevre has been replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria in Eclipse, I'm frankly more interested in whether or not Victoria will continue her bizarre, 1970s hippie look? I always found her Stevie Nicks-esque garb a little confounding and not very creepy, except in that sad, fashion victim kind of way. Having not read the books, I have no idea if this look is a Stephenie Meyer decision. But I vote for Howard to bring Victoria out of the '70s and to lose the fur and the Natasha Lyonne hair. It's kinda distracting. Anyone else hoping for Victoria to update her look? Photo Credit: Peter Sorel »

Los Angeles punks Abe Vigoda evolve with each new release. 2008’s Skeletons found the band experimenting with Afro-beat percussion and irregular song structures. 2009’s Reviver Ep was atonal no-wave noise, like Sonic Youth covering Stevie Nicks ("Wild Heart"). After their first headlining tour (ending at the Smell on the fifth of August), the band will hunker down to write and record their fourth proper album. I sat down with guitarist/co-founder Juan Velazquez to discuss the past, present, and future of the band.

Hmmm...Diana Ross, Stevie Nicks, Whitney Houston and Miley Cyrus. Something's not quite right with this picture. VH1, the cable net formerly known for addictive rockumentary series like Behind the Music before turning to reality dating fare like Flavor of Love and Rock of Love With Brett Michaels is resurrecting its famed VH1 Divas concert broadcast after a four-year layoff, tapping Adele, Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson and, no we're not joking, Ms. Hannah Montana herself. We guess Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera weren't available again. Unlike past Divas such as Aretha Franklin, Cher, Mary J. Blige and Celine Dion, all of whom have been around for decades, this latest round of... »

In these days of overexposed celebutards, this is a wonderfully uplifting story. Greg Breinberg, a 36-year old music teacher at P.S. 22 in Staten Island, has taught his 5th grade chorus contemporary songs, many they don't even know. This vid made its way to Stevie Nicks, who cried when she first watched it and invited the group to perform it before Fleetwood Mac's sound check at Msg. Enjoy, Dw

Sisters of the Moon Designs honestly couldn’t have a more fitting name. The clothing, hair falls, and accessories of this mother/daughter team from Rhode Island are magical and whimsical, for those of us who are enchanted by the darkness yet still adore the light.
Designing clothing has run in this family for generations. According to Shayl, the daughter of the duo, “ My great grandmother was a seamstress, she even had her own store, my mother took after her, always sewing, worked as a seamstress, and made all my clothing as a child, Even my prom dresses were handmade. I have always been into arts and crafts, I always wanted to learn how to make things.”
They started off eight years ago selling items on eBay, beginning with her mother’s vintage clothing, and then their handmade work. Once the demand grew, they started to expand into hair falls »

Kathy Griffin returned to Bravo last night with the premiere of season five of My Life on the D-List ... excuse me, I mean the two-time Emmy award-winning My Life on the D-List (I think that's how you're required to say it). While there were changes to the cast and Kathy's star status, the diva remains true to her roots as a snarky icon.
The season premiere focused on Kathy's meeting with Bette Midler, and while that's enough to earn it an up arrow, it was the three-way (phone call!) with a ... certain rock goddess ... that pushed this episode into the "classic" category.
There are two significant changes this season that are addressed immediately. Kathy's long-suffering assistant Jessica has, um ... "moved on" (rumors abound, but officially she's just ... "moved on"), which leaves just bland Tiffany and Tom to do her grunt work.
There's also an attempt to address the elephant in »

Not long after I came out, I was invited to a gay friend’s house to watch a movie that he said would have me laughing so hard that I’d pee my pants. How could I resist an invitation like that? The movie was Without You I’m Nothing, based on out comedian Sandra Bernhard’s much acclaimed one-woman-show of the same name.
I didn’t get it.
Bernhard ranted and raved and did odd non-impressions of celebrities and fake interviews with people I didn’t recognize, being a shiny new lesbian and all.
The tape ended with Bernhard draped in an American flag wearing nothing but a patriotic g-string and pasties, dancing to Prince’s Little Red Corvette. Not only were my pants dry, but I also felt totally stupid surrounded by gay men doubled over in laughter tears.
All these years later, Bernhard still confounds me much of the time. »

Nothing like the overblown '70s rock of Fleetwood Mac to bring a couple of old pals closer together. Former Friends co-stars Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston descended on the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday night to hear Mick Fleetwood and company blow through a rousing set of their mega-hits. They even locked arms as they left the show, perhaps basking in the afterglow of Stevie Nicks' otherwordly vocals. Apparently, Jen has gotten over the fact that Cox spent time with her ex-husband Brad Pitt at a Chris Cornell concert in L.A. earlier this month. Or maybe the recently single Aniston was. »

The Staples Center is used to hosting a lot of celebrities for Lakers games, but last night there was a new set of famous faces out for the Fleetwood Mac concert. Jennifer Aniston was back on the West Coast after filming The Baster in NYC, joining her Bff Courteney Cox and David Arquette to watch Stevie Nicks and the band. Nicole Richie skipped out on watching her Larry King Live interview and instead tweeted excitedly from the audience with her friend Hayden. Aniston may not be the next star to jump on the Twitter bandwagon, but she is helping use the tool for a good cause - she's participating in a Twitterhunt against cancer where signed t-shirts will be hidden around the country for followers of Stand Up 2 Cancer's feed to find. Q: Has Stevie Nicks ever attended The Night of a Thousand Stevies? If not, will she? – Rhiannon, New York, NY
A: The Night of a Thousand Stevies is, of course, the annual tribute to Stevie Nicks (which, as I’m sure you know, Rhiannon, took place this last weekend at the Highline Ballroom in New York City). As always, it involved Stevie music, Stevie impersonators, and the ever-popular tambourine toss. In the words of the promoters, it was “a riot of shawls, lace, baby's breath, twirling, tambourines and great performance.”
In fact, Stevie has been invited every year since the event began in 1990, but she has never “officially” attended. Has the always-iconic Gold Dust Woman ever gone incognito, to check things out, but to avoid being mobbed? Attendees swear she came »
