Kebbell Surprised By Ritchie's Calm Persona

24 July 2008 12:02 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

British actor Toby Kebbell was pleasantly surprised by director Guy Ritchie's kindhearted personality when they teamed up to shoot new movie Rocknrolla - because he expected the filmmaker to be egotistical and hot-tempered.

Kebbell, who stars alongside Gerard Butler, Thandie Newton and Jeremy Piven in the upcoming action movie, was terrified about working under Ritchie's guidance because of what he'd heard about the star and his wife Madonna in the tabloids.

But he admits Ritchie was nothing like what he expected.

He says, "I'm not a big one for reading up on the lives of others in magazines, but you sometimes form an idea and I have to say when I turned up in London, I really didn't expect to become friends with Guy Ritchie. But I did; he's a really funny, great personality, but no ego. It was never about, 'Just because I say so.'

"He was incredibly open to other ideas as long as they were right for the film. And very even-tempered, you know - he never spoke a bad or a harsh word to anybody. I really like that."

Did Oliver Stone Consider Snoop Dogg for Condoleeza Rice?

20 July 2008 5:35 AM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Conan O'Brien had on John McCain this past week and besides being a pretty good sport with a fake falling asleep moment, McCain sat back and had a laugh while Conan played a "what if" scenario if there were a TV movie to be made about McCain's vice presidential selection process. With the upcoming release of Oliver Stone's W. I foun it interesting how much more Snoop Dogg looks like Condoleeza Rice than Thandie Newton, who will be playing Rice in the film, does. Check out the vid below, it's mildly entertaining.

Newton Envied Paltrow's Self-esteem

30 May 2008 9:08 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

British actress Thandie Newton confesses she was once jealous of actress Gwyneth Paltrow - because she matured so quickly.

The pair, now both 35, met while working on the 1995 period drama Jefferson In Paris - and Newton admits she was stunned that someone her own age could be as self-assured as Paltrow.

She says, "I remember when I first met Gwyneth Paltrow, we were both 21 and working, and she was just this luminous, effortlessly cool young woman. And I was so incredibly self-conscious and shy. I was for a long, long time. And we were so similar and yet so different.

"And she just felt so entitled. She had an entitlement about her which I didn't have. I mean, look, it's complex, all kinds of reasons. But that's what I'm talking about."

Thandie Newton has revealed that she felt intimidated by Gwyneth Paltrow when they first met. The Crash star said she had found Paltrow "effortlessly cool" when they co-starred in 1995 movie Jefferson In Paris. She told The Guardian: "I think I went through my mid-life crisis when I was in my early 20s. I think a lot of women spend their 20s thinking, 'I don't know what I am doing, do I like myself?' And I had that to an extreme. "I remember (more)

Stone's Bush Film Hit By Script Leak

13 May 2008 9:09 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Oliver Stone's new movie chronicling U.S. President George W. Bush's time in office has been hit by a leaked script - despite movie bosses' best efforts to keep the plot secret.

The film, titled W, started filming on 12 May in Louisiana, with a release date scheduled for October - and Stone was determined to keep details of the movie under wraps, with scripts being embargoed and watermarked for extra security.

However, U.S. newspaper the New York Post has reportedly obtained a copy of the script - publishing excerpts on Tuesday.

The film - which stars Josh Brolin, Ioan Gruffud and Thandie Newton - reportedly pokes fun at the current president, creating scathing caricatures of both George W. Bush and members of his administration. Former president Bill Clinton is also parodied in the film and the publication reports that in one scene he is referred to as a "lardass".

The leaked script goes on to make fun of Bush's relationship with his parents, his alleged incompetence, his Texan accent and, most controversially, his decision to go to war with Iraq in 2003.

Stone's Bush Film Gets A Start Date

12 May 2008 7:03 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Oliver Stone's George W. Bush movie will be released while the U.S. President is still in office.

Lionsgate studio bosses have confirmed W will start filming in Louisiana on Monday, and the movie will hit cinemas in October - just before the general election to find Bush's successor.

W stars Josh Brolin as George W. Bush, Elizabeth Banks First Lady Laura Bush, James Cromwell as George Herbert Walker Bush and Ellen Burstyn as Barbara Bush.

The all-star cast also features Thandie Newton (Condoleezza Rice), Jeffrey Wright (Colin Powell), Scott Glenn (Donald Rumsfeld) and Ioan Gruffud (Tony Blair).

In a new statement about the explosive film, director Stone says, "The impact of George W. Bush's presidency will be felt for many years to come.

"Despite a meteoric, almost illogical rise to power, and a tremendous influence on the world, we don't really know much about Mr. Bush beyond the controlled images we've been allowed to see on TV.

"This movie's taking a bold stab at looking behind that curtain. I'm real pleased that Lionsgate has the independence necessary to bring this provocative story to an American audience."

Newton Humbled By Mali Trip

2 April 2008 9:07 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

British actress Thandie Newton was "humbled" by her recent trip to poverty-stricken Mali - declaring the plight of the people there has made her appreciate her life in the U.K.

The Crash star - who was born in Zambia but grew up in Cornwall, England - visited the West African country to front a campaign by Christian charity World Visions and mineral water company Volvic. The project aims to bring clean water to six African nations.

And after more than 1,000 people turned out to welcome her arrival in the village of Nampasso, the 35-year-old admits she was overwhelmed by the hospitality.

She says, "I'm not worthy of this. That was one of the most humbling experiences of my life. It made me want to cry."

Newton was also shocked to discover that none of the showers worked in the hotel she was staying in, but decided against complaining.

She adds, "I ended up using wet wipes. I was going to call reception, then I thought, how can you complain after what we've seen today?

"We turn on the tap at home and clean water comes out. We rarely stop to think how lucky that makes us."

Schwimmer Looked Out For Prankster Newton

23 March 2008 6:18 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

David Schwimmer watched his back on the set of his directorial debut Run, Fatboy, Run - because actress Thandie Newton was forever playing pranks.

Schwimmer was determined not to fall for fun-loving Newton's tricks - unlike her co-star Simon Pegg, who had to endure a succession of the British beauty's practical jokes.

Former Friends star Schwimmer says, "Thandie Newton was the queen of the pranks.

"When Simon was on set working, she would put cellophane on his toilet so when he went to go to the bathroom he splashed everywhere. She would take old underwear and rub it with Marmite and put it in his trailer... It was pretty disgusting.

"I think the best one was when we were doing the press junket together in London, where the movie opened. Thandie, Simon and I were in three different rooms with all these on camera interviews.

"Thandie had got there hours before Simon and I, and she had filled every one of his 12 giant bottles of water with vodka. So when he was in the middle of his first interview on camera and he goes to take a (swig) during the interview, a huge gulp and just spits up everywhere all over the interviewer.

"That was probably the best prank."

Newton: 'Madonna's Marriage Not In Trouble'

Madonna and Guy Ritchie's marriage is far from in trouble, according to the couple's friend Thandie Newton who insists they're "having a good time".

The Crash star has defended the pop superstar and her moviemaker husband, describing the couple's relationship as "all good".

The marriage came under intense scrutiny earlier this month when Ritchie failed to show up at New York's Rock + Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony, where his wife was honoured.

But Newton - who recently worked with Ritchie on new movie RocknRolla - says, "They're having a good time, as far as I know! I went to their house in the country - it's lovely. It's all good! I just saw them the other day - they're having a great time.

"Oh, he's (Ritchie's) lovely! He's a lovely, lovely, lovely man! Awesome - he's just like - sort of perfect!"

Newton Considered Adoption

21 March 2008 9:12 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Thandie Newton considered adoption after visiting children in poverty-stricken Mali.

The Crash star has two daughters with husband Ol Parker, but contemplated adding to her family following her trip to the West African Country.

However, Newton decided against adopting, preferring to donate money to their cause instead.

She says, "I had a really strong urge immediately after both my daughters to have another. But I felt it best to get to know them better first. Later I realised that urge can be satisfied by helping people.

"Rather than having more kids within my four walls, it's better for me to give out. That's not to say adopting isn't fantastic."
