Stephen King once wrote that the "last reason for reading horror: it's a rehearsal for death. It's a way to get ready." I agree with that statement and believe it applies to watching horror, as well as reading it. Sure, there's something to be said about how watching people scream and die in terrible ways probably satisfies the morbid curiosity that resides in the more primordial parts of our brains. But King's quote serves as a more profound (and socially acceptable) explanation for our attraction to the stories about fictional characters shuffling off this mortal coil, and how they allow us to come into contact with the great beyond.
From a safe distance, that is.
However, for an unlucky number of actors and film crew members, death got a little too close during the making of several horror movies, whether it was freak accidents, production team negligence, or tyrannical directors pushing their crew to extremes.

‘Jack Ryan’ Sets Premiere Date, Release Pattern For Abbreviated Fourth & Final Season On Prime Video
Fans of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan won’t have to wait long for the series’ final chapter. The fourth and final season of the popular Prime Video series starring John Krasinski will premiere June 30, just over six months after the Dec. 21 release of Season 3. That is by far the shortest gap between seasons, compared to 1 year and 2 months (between Seasons 1 and 2) and 3 years and 2 months (between Seasons 2 and 3).
Season 4 of Jack Ryan also will be the shortest. It will consist of six episodes, two fewer than each of the first three seasons. Additionally, the final installment will follow a different release pattern than Seasons 1-3, which all were dropped as a binge. Season 4 will release two episodes at a time, leading to the series finale on July 14. (Below is key art)

There wasn't a hotter author in the early 1990s than Tom Clancy. When the one-time insurance salesman took a crack at writing a Cold War military thriller in 1982, the resulting novel, "The Hunt for Red October," rocketed from niche page-turner to full-blown national bestseller (thanks in part to praise from then President Ronald Reagan). The book's hero, CIA analyst Jack Ryan, quickly became Clancy's James Bond through whom the author explored a shifting balance of global power as the Soviet Union gradually broke apart. By 1996, Clancy had authored seven Ryan adventures, promoting his protagonist nearly every step of the way until he inevitably became President of the United States in "Debt of Honor."
Though the books quickly became hopelessly convoluted and, finally, unreadably nonsensical, the character was immensely franchisable as a big-screen hero. With the box-office success of John McTiernan's "The Hunt for Red October" in 1990, it looked like...

One of the most oddly fascinating chapters of a movie star's career is Harrison Ford's awkward three-year run in between "Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope" and "Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back."
After a rough 10 years that saw him kicked out of Columbia Pictures' New Talent Program, and relegated to smallish roles in films like George Lucas' "American Graffiti" and Francis Ford Coppola's "The Conversation," Ford finally broke through as the dashing rogue Han Solo in Lucas' blockbuster space opera. With the entire country mad for anything even tangentially related to "Star Wars," it seemed like all of the actors were primed for superstardom. This was especially true of Ford, whose banter with Carrie Fisher's unflappable Princess Leia drew the film's biggest laughs.

Exclusive: Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, starring and executive produced by John Krasinski, has an end date in sight, I hear. Season 4 of the Prime Video action series, which is currently filming, will be its last, sources tell Deadline.
But that may not be the end of the franchise, produced by Amazon Studios, Paramount TV Studios and Skydance TV. I hear a potential spinoff series headlined by Michael Peña as another character from Clancy’s Jack Ryan literary universe, Ding Chavez, is in development.
TV Cancellations Photo Gallery: Shows Ending In 2022 & Beyond
Jack Ryan‘s end and potential spinoff are both a ways off as Prime Video has not set a Season 3 premiere date yet so fans will get two more seasons of the mothership series before it calls it a day, likely in 2023.
No one is commenting, but according to sources, Krasinski had committed to four seasons of Jack...

Who will be included for the special “In Memoriam” segment for Sunday night’s Oscars 2022 ceremony? For almost all other Academy Awards productions since the 1990s, producers typically select 40-50 people from the various branches. The 2021 segment had close to 100 people in a particularly fast-paced three minutes that was not very well-received since many of them were only on screen for a second or two.

Mace Neufeld, the producer whose star-driven action films were blockbusters, died overnight in his sleep at his home in Beverly Hills, his family told Deadline. He was 93.
Neufeld’s hit films included The Omen and its sequels, The Equalizer pics and several adaptations of Tom Clancy-penned Jack Ryan thrillers including Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, The Sum of All Fears and The Hunt for Red October. He was Emmy-nominated for East of Eden and exec produced the Prime Video series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan starring John Kasinski.
A family friend told Deadline that Neufeld was working on a third Equalizer pic and another Tom Clancy series for Prime Video at the time of his death.
Neufeld was at his zenith in the ’90s when, with partner Bob Rehme, he formed Neufeld/Rehme and produced a string of hit films such as Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and Beverly Hills Cop III.

Exclusive: A key character will be returning to Amazon Prime Video’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. Abbie Cornish, who portrayed Cathy Mueller in Season 1, will be back to reprise the role in the recently announced fourth season.
There has been a lingering mystery surrounding Cathy Mueller, Ryan’s love interest in the first season, as well as in the books. The character was never written out of the show, she just disappeared. There was not a single reference of her throughout Season 2, and the only clue given was Ryan (John Krasinski) sleeping with another woman early on in the season, and then later on saying he’s single.
There is no information how Cathy will be reintroduced on the show. Her return could be set up in the upcoming third season, production on which recently wrapped with a premiere date still Tbd.

The recent Top 5 on our picks of the Most Extreme Films went down rather well with you, our Nerdly audience, so we thought we’d bring you another Top 5 – this time looking at the Top 5 Cursed Films… in no particular order may I add! Check out the list below and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Opera Mortem
Written and directed by English painter David Fleas, Opera Mortem was apparently filmed over almost 10 years, in super-8 mm and VHS no less, and screened only one time in the 1973 at the Nottingham’s Odeon Film Theatre. Described as weird, trippy, filled with graphic blood, sex, and black magical ritualistic symbols, Opera Mortem – and its 1973 screening – are “believed” to be cursed; with reports of fires in projection booths, people dying after seeing it, riots… you name it, Opera Mortem reportedly caused it. Undoubtedly due to all the satanic symoblism within it!

If you’re a movie fan, then chances are you’re already familiar with the concept of “cursed films,” which is when a project’s legacy has something of a sinister undertone to it due to extenuating circumstances beyond any sort of normal production woes. And for their new series entitled Cursed Films, Shudder is diving into whether or not films like Poltergeist, The Omen, The Exorcist, The Crow, and Twilight Zone: The Movie were actually doomed from the start, or victims of being dealt an unfortunate hand by fate.

“Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” is changing showrunners again.
“Prison Break” creator Paul Scheuring, who was tapped to replace Carlton Cuse and run season 3 of the Amazon show less than three months ago, has stepped away from the role, Variety has confirmed.
Vaun Wilmott, who previously worked with Scheuring on “Prison Break” and recently served as a producer on “Star Trek: Discovery,” will be taking over showrunning duties for the forthcoming season.
Cuse left the series in March 2019, and “All The Money in the World” writer David Scarpa was originally in position to showrun season 3, according to sources, but reportedly exited the production soon after coming on board.
“Jack Ryan” stars John Krasinski as the titular CIA agent who, in the second season, ventures into a Venezuelan jungle to investigate an illegal arms deal. Cuse originally partnered with fellow “Lost” writer Roland to bring the Tom Clancy adaptation to the small screen.

“Prison Break” creator Paul Scheuring will take over for Carlton Cuse on the third season of Amazon’s “Jack Ryan” series, the company confirmed.
Cuse, who has helmed the adaptation through its first two seasons, stepped away to focus on his upcoming Netflix series “Locke & Key.”

The series sees the former “The Office” star step into the role that’s been inhabited previously in films by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine. Just watching Amazon’s teaser trailer for Season 2 of “Jack Ryan” might make you out of breath — imagine how John Krasinski feels.

Coming off one of its most contentious years in history, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences has sent out its list of candidates for its Board of Governors elections late this month.

CEO Dawn Hudson oversees a staff of more than 300 who conduct the Academy’s day-to-day business.

“Jack Ryan” showrunner Carlton Cuse will take a step back from the Amazon series for Season 3, TheWrap has learned.
Cuse, who has helmed the adaptation through its first two seasons, will step down from day-to-day responsibilities for the recently ordered third season to instead focus on his upcoming Netflix series “Locke & Key.”
“Jack Ryan,” a series adaptation of the popular Tom Clancy novels, was picked up for a third season by Amazon last month, well ahead of the show’s return for Season 2.
Cuse co-created the series with former “Lost” writer Graham Roland. He is expected to remain attached to the series as an executive producer, and a search is currently underway for his replacement as showrunner.

Carlton Cuse will not be returning as showrunner for Season 3 of “Jack Ryan,” Variety has learned.
The former “Lost” helmer will stay on as Executive Producer, and Amazon has launched a search to find a replacement showrunner for the John Krasinski thriller series.
News of Cuse’s departure comes less than a month after the show was renewed for a third season by Amazon. He originally partnered with former “Lost” writer Graham Roland to bring the Tom Clancy adaptation to the small screen.
Cuse will likely now turn his attention to Netflix’s “Locke & Key,” which he is set to co-run with Meredith Averill. The show is currently shooting, but no premiere date has yet been announced.
Produced by Paramount Television, “Jack Ryan” was originally given a two-season order in 2016. Season 1 premiered last year to mostly positive reviews — mainly for star John Krasinski, who plays the titular CIA operative.

Amazon has picked up a third season of “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.”
Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke made the announcement at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Wednesday.
Produced by Paramount Television, “Jack Ryan” was given a two-season order by Salke’s predecessor Roy Price in 2016. Season one premiered last year to primarily positive reviews — particularly for star John Krasinski, who plays the titular CIA operative.
“Compared with his rivals in the spy game, Ethan Hunt of ‘Mission: Impossible’ and Jason Bourne, Jack Ryan looks downright heroic in his ability to suit himself to a time in which automatic presumption that America is doing the right thing is on the decline,” critic Daniel D’Addario wrote in his review of season one’s first four episodes. He added, “Krasinski’s Ryan is fueled by data and by a willingness to listen, and he has goals in mind...
