Fox is one of the only broadcast networks not to have its own sister subscription streaming service and CEO Rob Wade believes this is an advantage.
Speaking ahead of its Upfront presentation later today, Wade said, “Our industry has seen a massive market shift. And for us, that translates into massive opportunity.”
“We sit in a unique position, unburdened by the challenges of an SVOD P&l, allowing us to write our own playbook,” he added.
While the company does operate free-streaming service Tubi, Wade was alluding to the challenges that companies such as ABC owner Disney has with Disney+ and Hulu, NBCUniversal has with Peacock and CBS owner Paramount has with Paramount+, now being forced to chase streaming profits after huge spending.
He added that the last several years have been “disruptive”.

The Emmys has officially come and gone! This year, Succession turned out to be the big winners; with Kieran Culkin receiving Best Lead Actor and Sarah Snook and Niecy Nash (for Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story) winning in their respective acting categories as well. Hopefully, the careers of these actors continue to prosper for years to come. Winning an Emmy is supposed to be the pinnacle of an actor’s career. It’s supposed to open doors for bigger and better roles. Hell, even being nominated is a huge accolade that’s meant to propel someone’s career. Unfortunately, some nominations didn’t

Travis Kelce is everywhere these days. And we all know why.
Sure, the stud tight end just helped the Kansas City Chiefs win their second straight Super Bowl, but that's not the main reason you can't scroll through social media for more than 15 seconds without seeing his grinning face.
Kelce, as you must be aware, is dating Taylor Swift, the pop icon who might well be the most famous and influential woman on the planet.
Taylor is so famous -- and her love life such a hot topic of discussion -- that anyone with whom she enters a relationship suddenly finds themselves a subject of global obsession.
Hell, Taylor is so famous that Travis' entire family has become famous simply because of their indirect association with her.
(Yes, until recently, Travis' brother, Jason Kelce, was a center for the Philadelphia Eagles. But name another offensive lineman who's a household name,...

The hit Hulu telefilm “Quiz Lady” showcases Sandra Oh and Awkwafina by giving each a chance to play against type. They’re a pair of sisters forced to compete on a game show to pay off their mother’s gambling debts. Awkwafina is the quiet, reserved Anne while Oh featured is the wild and crazy Jenny. Oh delivers a pitch-perfect performance and critics showered her with praise.
Marya E. Gates (Roger Ebert) proclaimed: “The film works largely thanks to the irrepressible charm of star Sandra Oh… Oh, on the other hand, is clearly having a blast playing this hot mess. She nails her pratfalls and plays the comedy as broad as possible with aplomb. However, Oh can also find the hurt, love, and complexity beneath Jenny’s superfluous surface.”

Awkwafina rose to fame with her idiosyncratic, trademark comedic stylings. Then she wowed us all with her against-type performance in Lulu Wang‘s “The Farewell,” which very nearly earned her an Oscar nomination back in 2019. She delivers another quiet, subdued role in the Hulu telefilm “Quiz Lady,” which could well reap her a career-first Emmy bid for acting.
Awkwafina plays the reserved Anne, who must compete on the game show she is obsessed with alongside her loud, abrasive, estranged sister Jenny (Sandra Oh) in order to pay off their mom’s gambling debts. The result is a heartwarming comedy that is one of the sweet treats of the year. Critics loved the movie and singled out Awkafina for particular praise.

Before he was stealing hearts in Set it Up and Anyone But You, flying planes in Top Gun: Maverick, and chasing tornadoes in Twisters, Glen Powell played frat boy Chad Radwell in the Ryan Murphy drama Scream Queens. This short-lived series may have fizzled out with little fanfare in its second and final season, but for many (myself included), this is the project that first put Powell and his charming humor on our radar.
Scream Queens is a slasher comedy, set at the fictional Wallace University in season 1 and the C.U.R.E. Institute medical school in season 2, that follows the girls of the Kappa Kappa Tau sorority as they try to stay alive in the midst of a killing spree. The popular girls known as the Chanels are the killer’s primary targets, but the killer isn’t afraid to take the frat boys of the Dickie Dollar Scholars down a peg either.

Just days before its debut, Fallout looks to be assured a second season thanks to a $25 million tax credit from California.
Officially, Amazon has not said yet that the Prime Video series is coming back, but, with some hints from executive producers Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan recently, it is pretty clear the money is doing the talking here. Receiving one of the largest allocations ever from the program for a relocating series, the post-apocalyptic drama is among a dozen shows awarded $152 million in incentives.
Primetime prequel NCIS: Origins, the Noah Wyle starring The Pitt, plus the Ryan Murphy executive produced Dr. Odyssey starring Joshua Jackson, and Grotesquerie starring Emmy winner Niecy Nash also were awarded credits through the California Film Commission run $330 million annual program – as you can see below.

Netflix's Griselda is one of the best hits of 2024 so far, and there's a good reason that the show is breaking ground. Fans and critics alike have sung praises for the six-episode limited series.
The biographical crime drama tells the story of The Cocaine Godmother Griselda Blanco, who ruled the Miami underworld in the '70s and '80s and helped establish cocaine trade links between Colombia and the United States.
Sofia Vergara's role as the titular character is highly praised, and many want more to do with this crime drama. While we may not get more Griselda, there are several shows to watch that are similar to the series.
10. Weeds
Weeds is a funnier, lower-stakes version of Griselda, in a way. Hard times drive Nancy Botwin (Mary-Lousie Parker) into the marijuana trade. A widowed mother of two boys, this mom is willing to do anything for her family.

There’s ambition, then there’s execution. Ava DuVernay’s 2023 film, Origin, grapples with a subject that has been relevant since forever: casteism. And what DuVernay has attempted to do here is something that you wouldn’t see every day: capture a global issue while telling the deeply personal story of an individual. The film follows the journey of Isabell Wilkerson, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who wrote her award-winning book Caste: The Origin of Our Discontents. But it is not just some book. It also tells the story of the writer herself, who suffers as many as three tragedies, which, in a way, lays the foundation of her book as a kind of coping mechanism. Sadly, it doesn’t quite translate on the 70 mm, as Origin fails to evoke the kind of emotion it was looking for. It does have some strong moments, but most of it feels rather gimmicky...

“Ted Lasso,” “Yellowjackets,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and Renee Rapp were just a few of the winners from the 35th annual GLAAD Media Awards, held Thursday night at the Beverly Hilton.
It’s the first of two dual ceremonies — the second happens May 11 in New York City — but we’ll go out on a limb and say it’s the best one because it’s first, and in Los Angeles (just kidding). And prior to the awards actually being handed out, the stars were out in force with some absolutely iconic looks for the Red Carpet.
Among them were Sydney Sweeney, Wayne Brady, Chlöe, Jason Sudeikis, Niecy Nash, and that’s barely a sample. Read on and see some of the best outfits and fiercest attitudes from the GLAAD Media Awards 2024.

Jenifer Lewis is revealing that she experienced a devastating fall, after which she couldn’t move and thought she might die, during a trip to the Serengeti in Tanzania.
Lewis recalled, in a preview of a sit-down interview with Robin Roberts that aired on Good Morning America, that in 2022, she planned to retire and travel after Black-ish wrapped and she released a book. But in November of that year, an adventurous vacation went awry when she fell off of her hotel balcony.

But in November of that year, an adventurous vacation went awry when she fell off of her hotel balcony.

In 2022, Netflix and showrunner Ryan Murphy released Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story to mixed reviews and a tremendous amount of controversy.
While the series received acclaim from some critics for its performances and its unflinching portrayal of Dahmer's grisly crimes, others felt that the show went too far in humanizing the monster at its core.
Now, Murphy is preparing to court controversy again, this time with the story of Erik and Lyle Menendez.
The Menendez brothers are far more sympathetic figures than Dahmer, but the fact remains that they committed two brutal murders, which the show will likely depict in graphic detail.
Their murder trial became a national sensation when it was broadcast on Court TV in 1993, but our younger readers might be hearing the Menendez name for the first time.
So here's a rundown of what you can expect from a show that's sure to generate a lot...

Danielle Brooks knows The Color Purple’s Sofia inside out. She spent a year as the boisterous wife in the Broadway revival in 2015, and boasts that she knows everything from the character’s Zodiac sign to the color socks she wore. A decade before her fiery onstage performance, a 15-year-old Brooks admired Felicia P. Fields as Sofia in its initial run on Broadway, whose defiant demeanor made her vulnerable to racial violence. Despite her lifelong ties to the role, she still had to prove herself for the big budget movie musical.

In front of a very enthusiastic audience of more than 600 fans, students and SAG-AFTRA members, actor Matt Bomer shared an unvarnished take on the heartache, hurdles and proudest moments he’s experienced in his 20-year film and television career.
Bomer appeared at the annual TV festival in Atlanta to accept The Hollywood Reporter’s Trailblazer Award – presented to him by current Scad acting student Eric Ackerman – for his contributions to storytelling. Bomer was specifically honored for his amplification of Lgtbq+ stories and characters in projects such as HBO’s The Normal Heart, Netflix’s 2024 Oscar contender Maestro and Showtime’s Fellow Travelers, to name just a few.
The award was created in 2023 to acknowledge artists whose work, often without fanfare, reflects a commitment to telling stories previously marginalized by Hollywood. Recent honorees have included David Oyelowo, Niecy Nash and Eva Longoria.

It’s been almost 20 years since Mariah Carey last won a Grammy, so when she received the Global Impact Award from the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective, she offered a dose of her signature comical shade.
“Is this a real Grammy? I haven’t seen one in soooooo long,” she said Thursday night as she held the award.
“It’s weird. I don’t know,” Carey continued while laughing as the audience at the Fairmont Century Plaza cheered her on. “We’ll figure out what this is later.”
Carey is easily one of the best-selling acts of all-time and holds the record for most No. 1 hits — 20 — by a solo artist. She’s been nominated for 34 Grammys, winning five: best new artist and best female pop vocal performance (“Vision of Love”) in 1991, as well as three R&b honors at the 2006 ceremony for “We Belong Together” and The Emancipation of Mimi.

Black women are consistently underestimated, disregarded, and overlooked in the entertainment industry, but I've been so inspired by Black stars' joy and self-love this awards season. From Quinta Brunson to Niecy Nash, our favorite actresses have already celebrated their well-deserved flowers - and I'll be watching the upcoming Grammys to see if that trend continues.
If you've missed all the bright points of this awards season, let me remind you of what's happened so far. During the Golden Globes on Jan. 7, we saw Ayo Edebiri take home her first major award as this year's best female actor in a television series for her work in "The Bear." Her acceptance speech made its way around social media for her relatable delivery - but mainly for her acknowledgment of her agents' and managers' assistants. Despite this being a momentous occasion in her career, she took the time to humbly thank and uplift...

“Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon made a surprise appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” crashing host Dakota Johnson’s opening monologue as she bantered with the night’s musical guest, Justin Timberlake.

Ava DuVernay says that while “it’s been disappointing” her film Origin “hasn’t had the reach in the Hollywood community” during awards season, she is proud of the “overwhelmingly positive, overwhelmingly connected” response it’s garnered from those who have embraced it.
Starring Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga, Audra McDonald, Niecy Nash-Betts, Nick Offerman, Blair Underwood and more, the Neon film is produced, directed and written by DuVernay, based on Isabel Wilkerson’s Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents. The film adapts Wilkerson’s analytical exploration of how caste can serve as a framework for understanding American racism — alongside the caste systems of India and Nazi Germany — into a biographical drama that has been called poignant, ambitious and possibly “the most important biopic of a book ever made.”

Much like the earlier reviewed All Of US Strangers, here’s another “indie” film that’s now getting a “wide rollout” after end-of-the-year screenings on the coasts. And yes, it could have been out everywhere in the last couple of months, but it seems that it’s more pertinent now than ever, since the presidential election cycle began with the Iowas caucus just days ago. No, it’s not about someone running for office, but its subject is a major discussion of any political discourse, going back to the beginnings of the US. And that subject is race. Now this new film doesn’t focus on one particular historical event, much like the filmmaker Ava DuVernay did with Selma, now ten years ago. This delves much deeper into it, as she travels the globe, and explores different eras, all in adapting a lauded scholar’s investigation into racism’s Origin.

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com audio film review for “Origin,” the latest film from director Ava DuVernay of “Selma” and featuring Augunue Ellis-Taylor of “King Richard” portraying author Isabel Wilkerson, as she seeks a thesis for a new book. In theaters January 19th.
Rating: 5.0/5.0
“Origin” has Ellis-Taylor as Wilkerson, who is organizing her latest book, which has an idea but not a foundation. She begins her journey by focusing on the word caste, as in the caste system that is best known in India, but really exists internationally. Her theory is that civilization relies on the exploitation of the caste system, having nothing to do with race, to keep wealth concentrated and elusive for most people. In America it is tied to racial bigotry, but in other parts of the world … including India … race doesn’t matter, but creating a permanent underclass controls society for the wealthy.
“Origin” is in theaters January 19th.

Despite pulling out all of the stops, ratings for the Emmy Awards hit a record-low this year.
Hosted by Anthony Anderson, the 75th annual Emmy Awards delivered an audience of 4.3 million total viewers and a 0.85 rating among Adults 18-49 — a high for Fox as it became the network’s most-watched Monday unscripted telecast in over eight-and-a-half years, but a new low for the awards show according to Nielsen data. Straying from its typical fall schedule due to last year’s historic strikes, this was the first time ever the Emmy Awards aired against an NFL playoff game which likely also played a role. Fox will share final numbers once they become available tomorrow.
For comparison, the 2022 show hosted by Keenan Thompson on NBC drew 5.9 million total viewers — which was the most recent record for the awards show reflecting a 25% drop in viewership from the previous year. It also recorded a...

From surprise appearances like that of “Dead to Me” star Christina Applegate to reunions between the casts of “Cheers,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and some of the “Grey’s Anatomy” stars, most of the awards presentations were teed up by star power making way for the winners.

Niecy Nash-Betts took home her first Primetime Emmy Award on Monday, and the five-time nominee took the opportunity to celebrate herself for the milestone achievement. Up top, the actress thanked God for “this divine moment;” then Murphy, Netflix, the Academy voters and her wife, Jessica Betts. But then, it was time for some self-love.
“And you know who I want to thank? I want to thank me for believing in me and doing what they said I could not do,” the actress said during her acceptance speech. “And I want to say to myself in front of all these beautiful people, go on girl with your bad self. You did that!”
Nash-Betts won the prize in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series, for her performance in Ryan Murphy’s “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.” Starring alongside Evan Peters, Nash-Betts plays Dahmer’s suspicious neighbor,...

Los Angeles, Jan 16 (Ians) Actress Niecy Nash clinched the honour for Outstanding Supporting Actress Limited or Anthology Series for her performance in the streaming series ‘Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’ at the currently ongoing 75th edition of Primetime Emmy Awards.
The official handle of Television Academy took to their official handle on X, erstwhile Twitter, and wrote, “The #Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie goes to @NiecyNash for Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story ( @Netflix )! #Emmys #75thEmmys”.
The actress’ emotional, moving, political and life-affirming speech gave tough competition to the title of her series, ‘Dahmer’, and much easier to watch.
She pulled off a Snoop Dogg during her speech as she said, “I wanna thank me, for believing in me”.
‘Dahmer’ is about the life of Jeffrey Dahmer, and how he became one of the most notorious serial killers in America.
