Following last week’s premiere of his quasi-biopic comedy Weird: The Al Yankovic Story on Roku, director Eric Appel has found his follow-up film. He is set to direct and write the comedy Stepdude for Sony Pictures, with Matt Tolmach producing along Jack Black and Roz Music.
The plot is being kept under wraps. Insiders say studio execs view this as having big potential at the theatrical level, with plans to fast-track it now that Appel is on board.
Appel most recently directed Daniel Radcliffe in Roku’s Weird: The Weird Al Yankovich feature, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to rave reviews. Appel was the director on Quibi’s action-comedy series Die Hart, starring Kevin Hart and John Travolta.
On the TV side, he beat out a strong field to direct the pilot of the Lord Miller live action/animation hybrid Fox series Son of Zorn,...

The Harry Potter star wore pretty pale eyes and rosebud lips to the show June 3. Here's how you can get her exact look straight from her makeup artist! Emma Watson had mint green eyeshadow and rosy lips that gave her a perfect summer palette. The look was created by celebrity makeup artist, Roz Music, who called it, 'fairytale-with-a-little-edge'. Roz was inspired by the luscious jacaranda trees blooming in Los Angeles Here's how you can get Emma's exact look: For a flawless complexion and long-lasting foundation, Roz smoothed Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24H over Emma's skin and then used Lancôme Blush Subtil in Soft Pink to highlight her cheekbones. Roz used Lancôme Liner Design Gel Eye Liner in Black Fishnets to thickly line Emma's eyes and Lancôme Color Design 5 Pan Palette in Mint Jolie to tie in the inspiration of blooming jacaranda trees. Director Miguel Arteta would like to be known as the man who gives voice to awkward dorks everywhere. "Dorkiness is my realm in which I live, so I celebrate dorkiness," the director of "Chuck & Buck" and "Star Maps" says proudly. It's been eight years since Arteta's last film, "The Good Girl," which was honored by the National Board of Review. He's spent a lot of that time helming for TV, but his newest feature, "Youth in Revolt," is worth the wait. Actor Michael Cera has never been better as Nick Twisp, a 16-year-old desperate to lose his virginity to the girl of his dreams. That might sound like the pithy premise of a "Road Trip"– or "American Pie"–type jock fest, but "Youth in Revolt" has the substance to back it up, thanks to C.D. Payne's original novel. Cera's character creates an alter ego reminiscent of Tyler Durden in...

But just how bad is the actor in real life?

People love Michael Cera for the same reasons they don't take him very seriously. He's sweet, endearing, impossibly bony and ideally suited for the role of love-struck best friend who never gets the girl. Until now.
This weekend, Cera takes a sharp 180 with "Youth in Revolt," the eagerly anticipated big-screen adaptation of a cult-favorite book series. Sure, he spends a healthy dose of screen time in the persona of Nick Twisp — awkward, hopelessly romantic teenage outcast — but it's his work as Twisp's swaggering, cigarette-smoking rebel alter ego Francois Dillinger that will raise eyebrows.
Recently, we caught up with the 21-year-old "Juno" star and his director, Miguel Arteta, to discuss three key points in the split personalities of Twisp/Dillinger. They were quick to point out that behind Cera's...
