"Hottest female serial killer ever? That's a tough call." FilmRise has debuted an official trailer for an indie comedy titled Women Who Kill, which first premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year. The film is inspired by podcasts like "Serial" and tells the story of two women who run a podcast about serial killers called "Women Who Kill". Writer/director Ingrid Jungermann stars as Morgan, and Ann Carr plays her co-host Jean. They used to be in a relationship but not anymore. When Morgan meets a new girl at the local Food Coop, she falls for her but it turns out she may actually be a serial killer. The cast includes Sheila Vand, Annette O'Toole, Deborah Rush, Tami Sagher, Grace Rex, and Shannon Patricia O'Neill. This looks quirky and entertaining in a very Brooklyn way, with some deep Brooklyn humor, but that's cool. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster...

Even if the Tracy Morgan-hosted Saturday Night Live hadn't actually been good, it still would have been great. The sheer fact that Morgan even appeared was a victory unto itself, making the quality of the episode itself something beside the point. The power of the show lies in its history, and its history is made up of the countless comedians that have populated the Studio 8H stage. Sometimes, the show indulges its past for the sake of the present, but when balanced correctly, there's a continuity that connects the...

In the season finale of “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” Stephen Colbert and host Jerry Seinfeld discuss the issue of manliness. “Who’s more feminine, you or your father?” Seinfeld asks the new “Late Show” host. “Well obviously, I am,” Colbert responds. Seinfeld also allows Colbert, who still sports the “Colbeard” he shaved off in June, to drive the car chosen for the episode, a 1964 Morgan Plus 4 Roadster. Colbert has a little difficulty managing the stick shift, telling Seinfeld, “If you can’t find it, grind it, my friend!” See video: Trevor Noah Talks 'Daily Show' Hosting Gig on Jerry Seinfeld's 'Comedians.

It looks like March is going to be a big month in VOD releases for genre fans, as there are a handful of great titles to keep an eye out for in the coming weeks. Several highly anticipated indie films are getting released, including It Follows, Spring, Faults and Backcountry, and there are also a handful of other fun films making their way onto digital platforms as well.
Here’s a rundown of what’s heading to VOD in March:
The Burning Dead (Uncork’d Entertainment)- 3/3
Written and produced by Jeff Miller and Jason Ancona (co-writers and producers of Axe Giant: The Wrath of Paul Bunyan), The Burning Dead pits a a horde of lava-filled zombies against a sheriff charged with the plight to rescue an estranged family from a volcano eruption. Trejo plays Night Wolf, a Native American warrior who knows way too much about the curse that unearthed the coffin dodgers.

"Neighbours, everybody needs good neighbours."
In early 2015, Neighbours will celebrate its 30th anniversary. The Aussie soap has provided us with nearly 7,000 episodes of drama, laughs and Harold Bishop falling off a clifftop and returning five years later as a bloke called Ted.
With preparations already underway for the 30th celebrations and the possible return of Kylie Minogue - the show's most famous breakout star - being teased, we want to find out who else you would like to see back in Ramsay Street to celebrate the show's birthday.
Here are our suggestions on who they could bring back:

“On the Mount Rushmore of stand-up comedy, there are four faces, in my opinion: Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Bill Cosby — and Don Rickles,” Jerry Seinfeld declared at the top of Tuesday’s all-star tribute to legendary insult comic Rickles. The show — taped two days before Rickles’ 88th birthday — will air on Spike TV Wednesday, May 28.
Clearly, the biggest names in comedy agree with Seinfeld’s assessment. The evening, filmed in Harlem’s historic Apollo Theater, included tributes and mini-roasts of “the Merchant of Venom” from Bob Newhart, Jon Stewart, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and David Letterman, as well as some...

The Real Housewives of New York City celebrated the Fourth of July on Tuesday night's episode, and – of course – there were plenty of fireworks.
The biggest sparks, however, turned out to be the biggest surprise, as BFFs Ramona Singer and Sonja Morgan got into a heated exchange at a Hamptons holiday party Singer hosted.
After the two had earlier discussed Morgan's Chapter 11 bankruptcy and her mounting concerns she might lose her home, the talk turned tense while testing Singer's newest wine.

Of all the canards foisted upon and between culture fans in 2013, there was none more dubious than the notion that the supposed “battle” of television vs. film had come to an end, with the former declared the victor. Besides the fact that comparing such disparate mediums is a fool’s errand at best, both are such vast and complicated enterprises that any pitched battle likely only pits narrow conceptions of each against the other. (Strawman vs. strawman, the most popular form of discourse on the Internet.) The simplest way to invalidate the entire argument quickly: where films only have to be taken on their own terms as one complete work, TV series need to be considered in at least three contexts: by episode, by season, and by the overall run of the series.
With several shows ending their runs this year, including Breaking Bad, Dexter, Southland, Spartacus, and The Killing (up until its latest resurrection,...

If you, like this reporter, are thankful this holiday season for The Mindy Project and the comedy gold it delivers each week, the following is for you. And if for some reason you aren’t tuning into Fox’s rom-com-drenched sitcom, well… for shame (and you should read on as well).
Mindy found its funny footing by the end of its first season, but its sophomore run has taken the laughs to another level — something co-star and writer Ike Barinholtz attributes to good ol’ fashioned timing.

If comedy has a Dorothy Parker, it’s Caroline Hirsch. The nightclub that bears her name on Broadway at the north end of Times Square is her salon, and for more than 30 years now, Carolines has been hosting the funniest and most famous stand-up comedians. From Jerry Seinfeld to Dave Chappelle to Louis Ck and Tracy Morgan, Carolines has been more than a prime showcase for the most hilarious people alive — it’s a room every comic has to conquer in order make his or her bones in the business.
Hirsch will be the first to admit that she herself isn’t funny.

At Any Price: Aussie Horror Comedy Predictable, Maintains Interest
Content with delivering an overly familiar comedy-horror scenario even as it seems committed to bringing both with equal measure, 100 Bloody Acres, the debut film from Aussie brothers Cameron and Colin Cairnes, is never scary, but manages to squeeze some effective gore and several laughs out of its derivative little soul. Rednecks terrorizing/cannibalizing/disemboweling insipidly stupid and attractive but unremarkable city folk that unwittingly stumble into the hellacious rural hinterlands is a horror trademark, but try as it does to remain true to being both funny and scary, the Cairnes brothers end up giving too little of either element to make this effort satisfactory.

It's the end of an era.
Just like "Seinfeld" in its day and "The Sopranos" years later, some shows deserve to be taken apart postmortem, analyzed and re-experienced for the sheer enjoyment of it. These shows are so brilliant that their focus isn't ratings or stats -- it's that they're in our cultural bloodstream. Such was "30 Rock," which last night aired its last episode after seven seasons (point most eloquently made by Tracy Jordan: "Thank you America, that's our show! Not a lot of people watched it but the joke's on you, because we got paid anyway!”)
Granted, what made "30 Rock" was the superb combination of recurring talent: Tina Fey's Liz Lemon, Alec Baldwin's Jack Donaghy, Tracy Morgan's Tracy Jordan, Jane Krakowski's Jenna Maroney, and Jack McBrayer's Kenneth Parcell. But some of the best episodes owe it to the celebrity stars who waltzed through those NBC doors.

To everything, there is a season to shut it down. Through seven years, 138 episodes, 14 Emmy wins and what its writers estimate as 23,000 hard-won punch lines, 30 Rock and its frequently food-stained heroine, Liz Lemon, have taught us that much, at least. (Other key lessons: "Never go with a hippie to a second location," and beware of the white dudes who "inject AIDS into our chicken nuggets.")
The show's final episode will air January 31st, so for Jack, Liz, Tracy, Jenna and Kenneth, for Grizz and for Dotcom, too, these are the end times.

Fandom News Roundup:
The Thorin/Bilbo (The Hobbit) fandom keeps growing and, dare I say, has already reached epic proportions on Tumblr--especially for a pairing that emerged a little over seventy-five years after Tolkien's novel was published. Supernatural finally returns this week! We can expect a Dean/Castiel team-up and appearances by Crowley and Samandriel Alfie. We've also been told that Wednesday's episode might involve torture. Before Daniel Tosh sparked controversy with his jokes about rape, Tracy Morgan spouted off his opinions of gay people and Dane Cook made some rather ill-timed (though, is there ever a good time? Probably not) riffs on the Dark Knight massacre, there was Michael Richards. As you surely remember, the Seinfeld favorite marred his Kramer image when he unleashed on a couple hecklers at Los Angeles' Laugh Factory with an N-world-laced rant. After the video went viral, he appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman to say he was "deeply, deeply sorry." Michael Richards' famous n-word laced meltdown at The Laugh Factory in Los Angeles changed the previously celebrated comedic actor's bio forever. In an instant, the "Seinfeld" co-star lost all credibility with audiences and industry alike, despite numerous efforts to publicly apologize (including during Jerry Seinfeld's previously scheduled stop on Letterman shortly after the incident).
But since the internet has the memory of an egg timer, perhaps six years later is enough time to let bygones by bygones and forgive the guy. That, at least, seems to be the goal of the season finale of "Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee," which comes out this evening and features Richards in the passenger seat.
While the preview showcases plenty of Kramer-esque wackiness, an AP report by a writer who received an advance look at the full episode reveals the former star speaks candidly about the emotional toll the incident and resulting shame has taken.

Since the 2010 debut of Louie (the third season starts tonight on FX), I’ve been a fan, but it hasn’t been easy.
You see, Louie isn’t for everybody. Louie involves foul language, sexual situations, and a lead character with an abiding sadness that many viewers find off-putting... and some find revolting. (The show is written, directed, edited by and stars Louis Ck, playing what one can only hope is a hugely distorted version of himself.)
Louie is a direct descendant of the great HBO series The Sopranos, in which the lead character sees the old order crumbing all around, and to his everlasting regret finds himself mostly powerless to do anything about it. Since that halcyon series, others have explored the same theme (among the best have been Six Feet Under, Nurse Jackie and notably, Girls), but none have done it with the style of Louie.

Comedy is social commentary. In a totalitarian regime, what’s the first thing to go? Comedy. Because comedy is, by its nature, subversive.

Many comedians and fans alike, consider the comedy stage a sacred place, where the dark, offensive, sacrilegious and even stupid can and should remain uncensored.
But in the age of smart phones and YouTube, where something said on stage in front of a few hundred people can suddenly become national news, how do comedians continue taking the risks (and making the mistakes) that make live comedy so thrilling?
Moreover, is apologizing for your material, however dark or upsetting, the antithesis of being a comedian? Is it the comedian's job to go too far?
These are some of the ideas we're exploring in HuffPost Comedy's series, "Crossing the Line".

The fate of Gcb, one of our favorite new shows, will be decided in the next few weeks, and right now, there's a 50/50 chance it'll survive. If it does get canceled, at least it'll instantly become a member of what we'll call the Arrested Development/Freaks & Geeks/Firefly club. Shows that were canceled before their time, and have gained cult status since they left the airwaves.
All of those programs have rabid enthusiastic followers, and in the case of Firefly and Arrested Development, that fan enthusiasm has directly led to big screen resurrections.

Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey's critically acclaimed sitcom “30 Rock” is tackling the tricky task of doing another live episode of the hit comedy show next month. Baldwin made the big reveal during his segment on “Extra” yesterday (March 21), which NBC has since confirmed.
This will be the second episode to get the live treatment. The first time around, in October 2010, the cast performed the show live twice – once for the east coast and once for the west coast.
For ratings challenged '30 Rock,' it's an experiment worth repeating: The 2010 live episode remains one of the show's most watching, pulling in 6.7 million viewers for a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Considering this season has only been getting 4 million people to tune in regularly, the second live episode, airing on April 26, will hopefully give the program the boost it needs for its current sixth season.

When Isabella Rossi (Fernanda Andrade) was a small child, there was... an incident. Her mother Maria Rossi (Suzan Crowley) killed three members of the clergy while the two priests and a nun were performing an exorcism on her without the Vatican's permission. Isabella grows up, and her mother gets shipped off to a mental hospital in Rome, right in the shadow of the Vatican.
Fortunately for Isabella, being so close to the Vatican gives her a unique opportunity to meet a pair of priests, Ben (Simon Quarterman) and David (Evan Helmuth), who practiced unlicensed exorcisms using a unique mix of medical science and religious rituals to determine who is simply mentally ill and who has an actual Satan infestation. Tonight on Criminal Minds: Tension Rises Between Hotch and Morgan
Tonight's Criminal Minds sees the Bau team investigating what appears to be an apparent mass suicide at a military academy, but could foul play be involved? On the personal front there is a clash between Hotch (Thomas Gibson) and Morgan (Shemar Moore), when one of the team could be in danger.
When a small group of youths are discovered hanging at a military academy a suicide pact is considered to be the possible cause, but when the Bau team investigate a little further they discover it could be the work of a 'budding psychopath.' They find a world of an honor code and system that has these young men treating each other as family, but it would appear that someone has not been living by that code. Look out for Strauss (Jayne Atkinson) who will be returning tonight...

Let's start the weekly round-up with Grimm.
Grimm's ratings dropped a little this week, but the show still won the 18-49 demo in its timeslot, finishing ahead of CSI: NY, Fringe and Supernatural, and rising by a full frakking ratings point (1.8) after Chuck (0.8). Wake up, Chuck.
Hitfix visited the set in Portland recently and posted a lengthy report. Here is a snippet:
Sasha Roiz on how his character will develop later in the series: "I’m not a Grimm descendent, but I'm a descendent of a long line that dates back just as Grimm does and we have a bit of a history and a past, so my line is a royal line and that will slowly unfold throughout the series."Collider has a longer interview with Sasha and Reggie Lee (more at the link):
It’s nice to see your character – like the main character – has the duality.

"I apologize to anyone who was offended."
Aah, that passive-aggressive non-apology apology. We've become used to seeing it in press releases after celebrity f**k-ups, but now the world seems to have caught on to how meaningless a statement it is.
These days, it's not enough to just go through the motions. In 2011 we require more than a token statement when a celeb tries to convince us that something was "taken out of context," or is "not what's in my heart."
Tracy Morgan is the latest apologetic celeb, and he seems to be working the hell out of his apology cycle, from meeting with GLAAD and Glbt teens, to loving a hypothetical gay son, to going back to the scene of his anti-gay tirade to apologize there.
His eagerness to make amends means he's either truly sincere in his apology ... or he's scared sh*tless about the future of his career.

Everyone from Tina Fey to Chris Rock seems to have an opinion about Tracy Morgan, who made headlines after he made a series of homophobic jokes during a stand-up show in Nashville last week. Now Marlon Wayans — who co-starred with Morgan in the 2006 comedy Little Man — has added his voice to the fray. “He has the right to say what he says,” the comedian told reporters at the 15th Annual Webby Awards yesterday. “But he has to be a little more responsible and write a little bit and think a little more before he does it next time.”

Tracy Morgan
This morning we mentioned that 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan had come under fire for a very homophobic routine during a recent stand-up show in Nashville. During his performance, Morgan reportedly said he would kill his gay son if he whined about being bullied, claimed that being gay is a choice and, well, it goes on from there.
Now Morgan has issued an apology, saying:
I want to apologize to my fans and the gay & lesbian community for my choice of words at my recent stand-up act in Nashville. I’m not a hateful person and don’t condone any kind of violence against others. While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context.
Given that this isn't the first time Morgan has spewed such...

Piers Morgan has joked that Jerry Seinfeld's recent condemnation of the hype surrounding the royal wedding proves that he's lost touch with romance. Last week, Seinfeld branded Prince William and fiancée Kate Middleton's impending nuptials as "absurd" and charged that the royal family is simply "a huge game of pretend". The CNN host has now told Access Hollywood that Seinfeld may simply be envious that Britain is garnering numerous international headlines with the event. "He's just jealous because he doesn't have a royal family in this country," Morgan joked. "He wants (more)...

Scream 4
Opens: April 15th 2011
Cast: Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Mary McDonnell, Emma Roberts Director: Wes Craven
Summary: Sidney Prescott, now the author of a self-help book, returns home to Woodsboro on the last stop of her book tour. There she reconnects with family and friends, but it also brings about the return of Ghostface which puts the whole town in danger.
Analysis: Back in late 1996 when I first began covering film news, "Scream" was released and became more than just a sleeper hit. After years of genre movies being relegated to direct-to-video status, this comedic slasher spawned the biggest surge in the horror film genre since "Halloween" almost two decades before. Its post-modern stylings and witty self-aware dialogue went on to be a big influence on films and television in general.
Yet the "Scream" series itself never could quite capture that glory again. By the time the...

Chicago – Television may no longer be in the golden age of the late ’90s and early ’00s, but the diversity of the current landscape has produced a few notable gems. While this TV critic is still a bit numb from what could be the weakest network freshmen crop in TV history, a diverse array of new, borderline great shows did pop up on cable — three of which can be found on my ten best list. However, the sliding decline of the broadcast networks continued in 2010 with only two current, still-airing network shows making my top ten this year. More than ever, if you don’t have cable, you may as well not own a TV. Thank God for FX, HBO, Showtime, and AMC.
As for the shows that are no longer with us, we said goodbye to two of the best of the last decade as “Lost” and “24” left the air and “Damages,...

Early last June, CNN celebrated 25 years of "Larry King Live" with a week of shows whose A-list guests included President Barack Obama, LeBron James, Bill Gates and Lady Gaga.It was hyped to the hilt and suitably eventful, even as King and Lady Gaga regarded each other with the bemusement of a human encountering an alien life form. Then, at the end of June, King suddenly announced he was retiring from his show . a weeknight fixture at 9 p.m. Eastern since June 1, 1985. He told viewers, "It's time to hang up my nightly suspenders."After Thursday's edition, King will indeed hang it up, suspenders and all.The lineup for this farewell hour should be stellar, though no names have been announced. The mood should be spirited and flowing with emotion. But until now, it's been an oddly subdued leave-taking. The promotion machine at a network can make noise over most anything.

New York -- Julia Louis-Dreyfus -- as Tina Fey's Liz Lemon in flashbacks -- Jon Hamm, Bill Hader and Rachel Dratch were guest stars on Thursday night's live episode of "30 Rock," whose East Coast version seemed to come off without a hitch.
As promised by Fey, the guest lineup included many members of the "30 Rock" family who viewers had seen on previous shows. Matt Damon, who is a regular on the show this season, also was part of the episode, which was performed at the studio of Fey's old home "Saturday Night Live."
Jane Krakowski's Jenna Maroney character probably had the most topical joke. When she heard that all the Chilean miners had been freed, but were upset at what she had said, she replied: "I guess they are geniuses for getting stuck in a mine."
Other joke punchlines included Fox News, introduced as a division of Nonsense Inc.

A look at what's new on DVD today:
"The Thin Red Line" (1998)
Directed by Terrence Malick
Released by Criterion Collection
No, you won't be getting the hours of deleted Adrien Brody or George Clooney footage from Malick's World War II epic, but this Criterion version is most certainly an upgrade from the previous bare-bones DVD edition with 14 minutes of outtakes, new interviews with Sean Penn and composer Hans Zimmer, among others from the cast and crew, an audio commentary with cinematographer John Toll, production designer Jack Fisk and producer Grant Hill and more.
"7 Days" (2010)
Directed by Daniel Grou
Released by Mpi Home Video
French Canadian horror author Patrick Senécal adapts his own novel to celluloid about a doctor (Claude Legault) who intercepts the man (Remy Girard) who raped and murdered his young daughter and turns the tables on him in a cabin in the woods. And that's how you kick off a brand new season. Last night brought the fourth season premiere of NBC's action-comedy Chuck ("Chuck Versus the Anniversary") and I hope that the episode delivered all of the espionage-tinged goodness that I promised in my advance review of the season opener last week. I had also teased readers via Twitter about the premiere ("Chuck premiere: sexting, skydiving, Seinfeld references, (Harry Dean) Stanton? Sensational. Very fun opener.") and the episode held up extremely well under a second viewing in the time between now and then. For me, anyway, "Chuck Versus the Anniversary" was perhaps the perfect way to begin a new chapter in the life of Chuck Bartowski, a character who has slowly evolved over the course of three seasons from reluctant hero to tragic hero to, well, just plain hero. His decision to take hold of his own destiny, to set out with...

If you have Netflix and are a horror fan in need of something to watch this Labor Day weekend, one look at this gargantuan list I compiled of the new terror titles Netflix has added for instant streaming in just the first three days of this month should keep you busy until Labor Day next year. You'll find something for everyone, from older titles to recent releases, famous to obscure, classic to not-so-classic, monsters to maniacs - you name it.
For the record, I considered compiling this list in alphabetical order or by year of the film's release, but then I realized I had already spent well over an hour just sorting through the massive catalogue of titles Netflix has now made available for instant streaming and realized Labor Day would be over by the time I finished arranging this list in any kind of order. Ready? Here you go.

To help celebrate Entertainment Weekly’s 20th anniversary (one more year and we can finally drink booze!), the writers and editors have carefully curated a list of the 100 greatest characters in pop-culture over the last 20 years. Whether the fictional women, men, ogres, muppets, babies, and cartoon rockers who made our list were initially created before 1990 didn’t matter so long as they made a lasting impact in the culture after 1990. Some characters were so inseparable in our minds and hearts — like a certain highly articulate TV mother and daughter, for example — that we simply listed them together. (Hey, it’s our list,...
