- One of the most revered talents in comic books.
- Originally wrote Captain Britain for Marvel UK comics. Also revived Marvelman (known in North America as Miracleman) and created V for Vendetta in the magazine, Warrior. Both series were reprinted and continued in North America in their own books for Eclipse Comics and DC Comics respectively.
- Also wrote the independent comic series, Big Numbers and From Hell and at least one graphic novel.
- Also wrote numerous short stories for various American independent comic books.
- First came to prominience in North America with his acclaimed run on "The Saga of the Swamp Thing" for DC Comics. Also created the highly praised Watchmen mini series and the one shot prestige printed book, "The Killing Joke" which gave the origin of the Batman villian, the Joker, for the first time for that company. Also wrote numerous Superman stories, most notably "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow", the last Superman story before John Byrne's major overhaul of the character.
- Currently the main writer for the America's Best Comics (ABC) line which include titles, "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", "Tom Strong" and "Top Ten" as well as "Supreme" for Wildstorm Comics.
- Wrote two issues of "Omega Men," for DC comics.
