Lisa Ambalavanar plays Jinx on Titans Season 4.
TV Fanatic got to speak with the star about joining the show, what's coming up on Titans Season 4 Episode 5, and more.
Scroll down for the full interview.
Could you speak a bit about how you got involved with Titans?
It was the usual self-tape process. They were looking for someone to play Jinx, I did a couple of tapes and got the role!
When Jinx was first introduced on Titans Season 4 Episode 3, she was a character who played in the grey area. What did you like the most about that?
It was so much fun to be so cheeky and disruptive. I got to play around and improvise a lot, nearly all of which made it into the show!
There's so much I did in all my episodes that wasn't scripted, and I'm really proud of that.
I definitely put my stamp on the character.

If there is one superhero show that has outlasted its expiration date, it may be "Titans." After three seasons, it seems the gritty affair will indefinitely struggle to land its lofty ambitions in a satisfying way. Despite some great ideas and themes, I've found myself wanting a lot more out of the series by the time the credits roll in each season finale. But here we are, another season is well on its way and approaching quicker than ever (or at least it feels like it).
Judging by the recent trailer, "Titans" may just be finding its stride in balancing zany superhero stuff and a horror-tinged storyline. However, I know what promises are worth. Expectations aren't sky-high this time around,...

Powerhouse “Dune” cinematographer Greig Fraser won the feature film prize Sunday night at the 36th annual ASC Awards (held at the organization’s clubhouse in Hollywood). This marks Fraser’s second ASC win after his Oscar-nominated “Lion.” He triumphed over Bruno Delbonnel (“The Tragedy of Macbeth”), Dan Laustsen (“Nightmare Alley”), Ari Wegner (“The Power of the Dog”), and Haris Zambarloukos (“Belfast”). All are Oscar nominees except Zambarloukos, who was beat out by Janusz Kamiński (“West Side Story”).
Fraser now has critical momentum going into next Sunday’s Oscars, bolstered by his recent BAFTA prize and praise for his dark and gritty “The Batman.” However, don’t be surprised if Wegner (winner of the Critics Choice Award) pulls off an upset over her fellow Australian and becomes the first woman to win the Oscar for cinematography. Her director, “Power of the Dog’s” Jane Campion, is expected to win the Oscar for Best Director.

“Dune” has been named the best-shot film of 2021 by the American Society of Cinematographers, which held its annual awards show on Sunday evening in Los Angeles.
Cinematographer Greig Fraser won the award over a field that included fellow Oscar nominees “The Power of the Dog,” “The Tragedy of Macbeth” and “Nightmare Alley,” as well as “Belfast.”
In the first 35 years of its existence, the ASC winner has gone on to take the Oscar for Best Cinematography less than half the time, although that percentage has improved recently. “Dune” is considered one of the front runners for this year’s cinematography Oscar, with Fraser seemingly in a close with Ari Wegner for “The Power of the Dog,” who could be the first woman ever to win in the category.
Other feature-film awards went to Jessica Beshir for “Faya Dayi” in the documentary category and Pat Scola for “Pig” in the spotlight category,...

The American Society of Cinematographers on Tuesday unveiled nominations for its 36th annual ASC Awards, honoring the year’s best in feature film, documentary and television cinematography.
The society’s marquee Feature Film nominees include Bruno Delbonnel for The Tragedy of Macbeth, Greig Fraser for Dune, Dan Laustsen for Nightmare Alley, Ari Wegner for The Power of the Dog and Haris Zambarloukos for Belfast.
Last year, the ASC awarded Mank‘s Erik Messerschmidt with the Feature Film trophy, on his way to winning the Cinematography Oscar for the black-and-white film. This year, Belfast and Macbeth are also both black and white, along with for that matter Guillermo del Toro’s alt-version of Nightmare Alley.

The top cinematographers working on television reflect projects that truly embody why television is believed to be our best creative medium. Their projects touch the genres of fantasy, social dramas, superhero stories and family dramas. In a recent discussion, it was fascinating to hear which films influenced them into wanting to become cinematographers and what parts of the job they enjoy the most. Gold Derby recently had this discussion with Michael Fimognari (“Midnight Mass”), Antonio Calvache (“Queen Sugar”), Andrij Parekh (“Scenes from a Marriage”), Boris Mojsovski (“Titans”) and David Moxness (“The Wheel of Time”) during our recent “Meet the Experts” panel.

“Titans” cinematographer, Boris Mojsovski, still finds it a little confusing that he was brought on board at the beginning of the show to help develop its look. “It was interesting for this Bosnian refugee to do a superhero show. I don’t know how that match happened because I didn’t really grow up with the characters,” he tells Gold Derby in our Meet the Experts: TV Cinematography panel (watch the exclusive video interview above). Fortunately, Mojsovski was able to get on the same wavelength as showrunner, Greg Walker. “Walker and I found a common language in trying to ground the show as much as possible in that world to emphasize the characters and what they go through.”
“Titans,” which can currently be viewed through HBO Max, centers on a disbanded group of young superheroes who reunite with each other to fight crime in Detroit, San Francisco and Gotham City.

If it wasn’t for Covid-19, we’d be enjoying new episodes of Titans right now. Sadly, however, the show was a victim of unlucky timing, with the shoot scheduled to begin as the virus hit and lockdowns got underway. All plans were quickly put on ice and production was delayed until the fall. Now, though, Titans is officially back before the cameras, with cinematographer Boris Mojsovski sharing a photo (see below) of himself with Nightwing actor Brenton Thwaites from the set and calling him “one of my favorite movie stars.”
Season 3 marks big changes for Titans both on and off the screen. It’ll premiere on HBO Max rather than DC Universe and will see major evolutions for the characters. For example, Thwaites’ Dick Grayson will be graduating from Robin to Nightwing, which will have him don an updated costume and fight with new weapons. In an interview with Collider last summer,...

Batman has long been elusive on the small screen. In the Arrowverse, he’s an almost entirely off-screen presence, Gotham saw a Bruce Wayne pre-Batsuit and Titans kept him in the wings for much for the first two seasons. More specifically, Batman was glimpsed in a few flashbacks, seen in a fantasy sequence in the Titans season 1 finale and finally made a full appearance in the second season as played by Game of Thrones’ Iain Glen.
Glen gave us an interesting take on the character, moving away from the traditional portrayal of an older Bruce Wayne as cold and isolated and giving him some genuine warmth (even if his American accent was a bit sus). This take on the role somewhat split opinion, but it seems that he was popular enough to warrant a return for the upcoming season 3.

The great thing about Titans is that it has access to a huge amount of DC icons, including those that are often out of bounds for DC TV shows. Season 2, for instance, introduced Bruce Wayne himself, as played by Game of Thrones star Iain Glen. It only made sense to bring the Batman into the series, seeing as both Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) and Jason Todd (Curran Walters) are regulars. And now we know that we’re getting another prominent member of the Bat-family in season 3, as Batgirl is making her Titans debut.
Director/cinematographer Boris Mojsovski shared a livestream video on his Instagram today, which is where he decided to spill the big news. As well as confirming that Glen will be back as Bruce in the next run of the DC Universe series, he likewise dropped the bombshell that Barbara Gordon will be joining the Titans in season...

Actress Minka Kelly has given us a better idea of how her character Dove will look in the second season of Titans. Part of a crime-fighting duo with Hawk, Kelly’s Dove, aka Dawn Granger, was put through the ringer in the first season of the show, and is expected to play a prominent part in new episodes of the DC Universe series.
As you can see down below, Kelly posted a photo to Instagram of herself as Granger in casual clothes, rather than her vigilante costume, and also mentioned that cinematographer Boris Mojsovski will be directing an episode of the show.
We previously saw a behind-the-scenes shot of Kelly with an adorable dog, although probably not Krypto, who’s expected to appear in the new season. Furthermore, we also had a brief look at Hawk and Alan Ritchison’s Hank Hall in action in leaked footage from the set earlier this year.

As expected, cinematographer Roger Deakins took the top prize for “Blade Runner 2049” at the 32nd annual Asc Awards at Hollywood & Highland. It was his fourth Asc award, besting the other four Oscar nominees: Bruno Delbonnel (“Darkest Hour”), Hoyte van Hoytema (“Dunkirk”), Dan Laustsen (“The Shape of Water”), and Rachel Morrison (“Mudbound”), the first female from her branch nominated by the Asc and the Academy.
But can Deakins finally earn the elusive Academy Award after 14 nominations? He’s certainly the sentimental favorite for his trippy, sci-fi naturalism in Denis Villeneuve’s “Blade Runner” sequel. And winning the BAFTA Sunday (also his fourth) would certainly provide added momentum.
But there’s also a case to be made for three of the other contenders: Van Hoytema’s innovative IMAX work for Christopher Nolan’s World War II survival epic, Lausten’s sublime imagery for Guillermo del Toro’s Best Picture favorite, and...

The 32nd annual American Society of Cinematographers Awards took place on Feb. 17 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland and were emceed by Turner Classic Movies’ Ben Mankiewicz. The American Society of Cinematographers (Asc) feature film nominees tends to lean toward big-scale movies, and this year is no exception. Their top five include frontrunner Roger Deakins for his stunning visuals in “Blade Runner 2049” as well as Rachel Morrison, who photographed “Mudbound.” Left out were viable but smaller-scale contenders “Call Me By Your Name” and “The Post.”
So far, neither the Asc nor the cinematography branch of the Academy has ever nominated a woman for a feature film. So Morrison’s nomination is a big deal. Paz de la Huerta has filed a lawsuit against Lionsgate after being hospitalised on the set of horror movie Nurse 3D.
The actress who played Nucky Thompson's (Steve Buscemi) former mistress Lucy Danziger on HBO's Boardwalk Empire, was hit by an ambulance while working on the film in 2011.
According to The Wrap, the actress filed suit in New York on Tuesday (October 16).
de la Huerta alleges that she suffered "severe injuries and considerable pain and suffering" on set in Toronto on October 15, 2011. She claims that an unnamed stunt driver "caused his ambulance to strike [her] and knock her to the ground".
In her legal filing, the actress also says that she "sustained severe injuries and considerable pain and suffering, was confined to hospital, bed and home, was caused to undergo medical treatment and surgery in an attempt to alleviate her injuries".
The lawsuit notes that she "was caused to incur expense for treatment,...

Ever since Nurse Ratched terrorized Chief Bromden and Randle McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, nurses have been slotted into two categories by Hollywood writers. There’s the battle axe, like Ratched and Sister Jude in American Horror Story: Asylum (to give a more recent example), and the naughty nurse, like Dakota Block in Planet Terror, Elle Driver in Kill Bill and any number of adult actresses. To my knowledge, however, no film has ever combined the two with such nutty results as Nurse 3D.
Paz de la Huerta proves an inspired choice to play Abby Russell, a devoted nurse by day who stalks through clubs at night, murdering men she seduces into cheating on their wives. When Abby goes out drinking one night with new nurse Danni (Katrina Bowden) and finds herself intensely attracted to the young woman, she spends the night with her and begins to pursue her romantically.

Today is the day when The Day hits theaters. We’ve been covering the movie for awhile, and Dread Central got to chatting with director Douglas Aarniokoski about his post-apocalyptic movie, which stars Ashley Bell, Dominic Monaghan, Cory Hardrict, Shawn Ashmore, Michael Eklund and the woman that tugged my heart tails as a fourteen year old, Shannyn Sossamon.
The interview, which also features teases for Nurse 3D, is below, again thanks to DC:
Dread Central: The Day is this little indie movie I have been hearing about for some time now in interviews with guys like Shawn Ashmore and Cory (Hardrict) so I would think that getting ready for your theatrical debut has to be an incredible feeling, considering how ambitious the movie is. Can you talk more about that and how you became involved with the project as well?
Douglas Aarniokoski The Day truly was a labor of love...
