What is there to say about Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse that its title doesn’t say? At first glance, it seems to be the perfect picture for seventeen-year-olds who have just earned a driver’s license and the freedom to see it without a parent or adult guardian. However, it’s likely most seventeen-year-olds looking for an R-rated comedy have grown out of the brand of humor this one attempts to deliver.
Directed by Christopher Landon (Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones) from a script by Landon, Lona Williams, Emi Mochizuki and Carrie Lee Wilson, it provides exactly what you’d expect: blood, gore, boobs, and nature hikes. Its sexual politics are only slightly more evolved than those truly weird 80s horror films Agfa and the Alamo Drafthouse are preserving. Here we get a zombie attack by oral sex, zombie boobs, and one silly gag that I admit had...

While it’s no surprise that a zombie comedy loaded with beat-pounding electronica isn’t exactly canon Romero, the reckless abandon that Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse shows towards genre mythos is asinine, yet admirable(ish). Writers Emi Mochizuki, Carrie Evans, Christopher Landon, and Lona Williams couldn’t care less about undead continuity, as they flesh out a strobe-lit, gooey debauchery in the vein of a much more immature Zombieland. Think American Pie meets Dance Of The Dead, where director Christopher Landon (pulling double duty) goes style over substance into levels of zombie-stripping, head-exploding madness. True horror junkies are going to be crying foul after every unexplained walker detail, but younger fans enamored by gratuitous death sequences will probably be laughing too hard to care as Dillon Francis’ head transforms into a bloody mist.

It’s almost two weeks to the day until Halloween, and Paramount Pictures is getting into the holiday spirit a little ahead of schedule with the riotous, decidedly Nsfw clip for Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, which can be seen at Coming Soon.
Uniting a trio of bumbling survivors together – namely Tye Sheridan, Logan Miller and Joey Morgan – with Halston Sage’s no-nonsense cocktail waitress, the delightfully violent R-rated comedy tasks the unlikely heroes with, well, surviving a zombie apocalypse. Stumbling into an eerily vacant strip club, our hapless protagonists soon find themselves face to face with a member of the undead, with hilarity and serious bloodshed ensuing.

Lumbering through development hell since at least 2010, zom-com Scouts Vs. Zombies is finally heading into production. Last we heard (a year ago), Tropic Thunder and Men In Black 3 writer Etan Cohen was directing, but he's since been replaced by Christopher Landon, who most recently made Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones and wrote 2007's Disturbia. The film also now has its scout leader, in the jocular form of Champ Kind himself, David Koechner. As you might surmise from the title, Scouts Vs. Zombies finds a troop of bob-a-jobbers facing down a horde of flesh-craving undead on a camping trip. They’ll need all their survival skills to avoid becoming the zombies’ latest meal, and to help save their small town.Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki wrote the original script, which hit the 2010 Black List and attracted interest from Race To Witch Mountain director Andy Fickman. He’s still involved, but only as producer,...

I have to admit, it's going to be really fun watch a group of 12-year-old Boy Scouts putting their survival skills to the test when they are attacked by a horde of zombies. Boy Scouts Vs. Zombies has been inching toward production for over a year now, and it looks like Paramount Pictures has locked down a director. That director is Christopher Landon, who has worked on a few of the Paranormal Activity films, and even directed the upcoming Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. I don't know if he's the right person for the job or not, but the movie sounds like it could be entertaining no matter who is directing it.
The movie comes from the 2010 Black List script written by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki. I love the concept of a group of Boy Scouts taking on zombies, and I can see the hilariously violent potential.

Over three years ago, we learned that Race to Witch Mountain director Andy Fickman was going to take on a horror comedy called Boy Scouts vs. Zombies. Though the concept, which is obvious from the title, sounded great, having Fickman directing with a script from College Road Trip writers Carrie Evans & Emi Mochizuki sounded like a disaster. But now Deadline reports Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones director Christopher Landon will now direct the film, and he'll be making a pass on the script himself, following a new rewrite from Lona Williams (Drop Dead Gorgeous) and Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder). The script made the Black List awhile back, so maybe it's better than Evans & Mochizuki's previous work. And with rewrites from the aforementioned scribes, it's likely only gotten better. As for Landon's skill on the page, he wrote Paranormal Activity 3 and Paranormal Activity 4, and while the third one had some great elements,...

Boy Scouts vs. Zombies is a project that Paramount has been trying to get off the ground for a few years now, and it looks like they are ready to move forward with a new director.
Early last year, it was said that Etan Cohen (writer- Tropic Thunder, Men in Black III) was considering this project as his first directorial effort, but the job is going to Christopher Landon, who recently wrapped up work on the upcoming Paranormal Activity spin-off, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones.

If you need any sort of indication that the zombie craze that has taken over our popular culture in the last decade or so has hit its peak and is now getting ready to wane, you probably need look no further than the ludicrously titled upcoming film from Paramount Pictures, Boy Scouts vs. Zombies. Yes, as you’re likely imagining, this really is a movie that’s going to pit flesh-eating fiends against young boys in little shorts and neckerchiefs, and it really is on its way to being made. Don’t roll your eyes too much yet though, because there is some indication that there might be a few good ideas getting kicked around here. What started out as simply a pitch for a movie that never ended up getting made has since become a Black List script written by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki, so all indications are that the execution of a movie that...

Zombie-survival is the newest merit badge! Back in December of 2010, we shared the news with you about Paramount Pictures picking up a horror/comedy titled Boy Scouts vs. Zombies, written by College Road Trip scribes Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki.
Now, THR reports that Etan Cohen is in negotiations to direct this Goonies-esque project. Cohen, best known for his writing in comedy with such films as Tropic Thunder and Idiocracy, will make his directorial debut with this story about a Boy Scout troop endeavoring to save a girl scout troop from a zombie outbreak.
Boy Scouts vs. Zombies will be produced by Andy Fickman and Betsy Sullenger of Oops Doughnuts Productions and Todd Garner of Broken Road Productions, and Bryan Brucks of Brucks Entertainment with Sean Robins of Broken Road executive producing. Lona Williams (Drop Dead Gorgeous) will be crafting a new draft of the script under Cohen’s keen comedic eye.

There seem to be a lot of comedy writers making the jump to directing as of late, and I guess as long as they are mainly directing comedies, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Screenwriters probably have the best grasp of the comedic timing and the intended tone of a film that they wrote, and generally speaking, comedies don't usually require a lot of visual style or skill behind the camera. However, this week it looks like Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen will be taking on something a little bit different for his directorial debut: a horror-comedy for Paramount called Boy Scouts vs. Zombies. Yep, another genre mash-up with "vs." in the title... do I really need to say anything more? According to Heat Vision, the script is not actually one that Cohen wrote himself. Penned by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki (College Road Trip), it made the 2010 Black List...

Just when you thought Hollywood’s zombie love-fest couldn’t get any more surreal, along comes Boy Scouts vs. Zombies. According to THR, Etan Cohen, best known for screenwriting Tropic Thunder and Men in Black III, has been hired to make his directorial debut on the self-described Goonies inspired horror comedy. Several months back it was reported that Paramount had acquired rights to this 2010 Black List screenplay, penned by the writers of College Road Trip - Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki.

Men in Black III writer Etan Cohen will be making his directorial debut for Paramount with the horror-comedy Boy Scouts vs. Zombies according to THR. The script was featured on the 2010 Black List (the most popular unproduced screenplays) and writers Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki penned the zomcom, which centers on a troop of young Scouts who try to save a group of Girl Scouts from zombies. Le duh. Yes, it's another literal-minded title that gives you the plot in just a few words, but Hollywood's been hot on that — and zombies —lately. Cohen is a much-loved screenwriter, having worked with Mike Judge and Ben Stiller on films like Idiocracy and Tropic Thunder. He'll be supervising Drop Dead Gorgeous writer Lona Williams, who will pen a new draft of the killer...

Awhile back, there was word that Race to Witch Mountain director was going to oversee production of Boy Scouts vs. Zombies, a project from College Road Trip writers Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki that made the Black List in 2010. Since then we haven't heard anything about the project, but now Heat Vision has word that Tropic Thunder and Men in Black 3 writer Etan Cohen will make his directorial debut with the film that follows a troop of young boy scouts that must save a group of girl scouts from a pack of zombies that will just spoil a good camping trip. That actually has renewed my faith in this silly sounding project. Initially, I was worried that such family friendly filmmakers were working on a film that should probably be an R-rated action horror romp, but with Etan Cohen behind the camera, this could at least turn into some ...

Hurrying the coming genre trope-pocalypse, Paramount has begun developing the horror-comedy Boy Scouts Vs. Zombies, the Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki-penned screenplay that sat on the 2010 Black List until someone finally realized that it had “zombies” in the title. And as that title suggests, the film will indeed find some Boy Scouts fighting some zombies, using their finely honed knot-tying and listening-to-lectures-about-the-importance-of-civil-service skills to rescue a nearby group of Girl Scouts after the undead intrudes upon their camping trip, because all of the parental chaperones have sworn to remain hands-off lest they be accused of inappropriate touching, apparently. Tropic ...

Screenwriter Etan Cohen has spent the past few years co-writing comedies like Tropic Thunder and Idiocracy as well as taking a turn on the script for Men in Black III. Now he's ready to make his directorial debut.
THR reports that Cohen is in negotiations to direct the horror-comedy Boy Scouts vs. Zombies, which has a plot that sounds exactly like the title suggests, with a boy scout troop trying to save a group of girl scouts from zombies.
The script, written by College Road Trip screenwriters Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki, was on the 2010 Black List of Hollywood's most-liked — but unproduced — screenplays. Cohen is going to supervise a new draft from Lona Williams (Drop Dead Gorgeous). Andy Fickman (You Again) was previously attached to direct, but will now produce the movie for Paramount Pictures, who will distribute once the movie is finished.

Tropic Thunder screenwriter Etan Cohen might end up directing a horror comedy for Paramount Pictures called Boy Scouts Vs. Zombies. He's currently in negotiations with the studio, and he most recently wrote the script for Men in Black III. Even though he's a screenwriter, he didn't write the script for the movie. It was actually written by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki and it made the 2010 Black List of Hollywood's most-liked screenplays. Of course, Cohen will work on a new draft with Lona Williams (Drop Dead Gorgeous).
As the title obviously suggests, the film focuses on a boy scout troop that must save a group of girl scouts from a horde of zombies with designs on spoiling a camping trip.
Maybe I would have gone to Boy Scouts if they actually taught you zombie surviving skills. This has the potential to be an amazing movie, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Boy Scouts vs. Zombies is a project that Paramount has been trying to get off the ground for a couple of years, but it looks like they are ready to move forward with a new director. Etan Cohen, who is known for his writing on Tropic Thunder and also worked on Men in Black III, is currently negotiating to make this his first directorial effort.
The script was originally written by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki, and was picked up by Paramount back in 2010. The story “centers on a troop that must save a group of girl scouts from a pack of zombies with designs on spoiling a camping trip”.
There are no additional details on the project at this time. Paramount has already invested quite a bit into zombies with World War Z, which will be released later this year. There are also a number of zombie comedies at...

Roasting brains over an open fire, making human smores. Mmmm. Etan Cohen, whose written scripts for a bunch of Hollywood films I wouldn't see if you paid me, has his directorial debut with the 2010 black list script written by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki. Paramount's behind it. And it goes like this: "A troop of Boy Scouts on their weekend camping trip must protect an island town from a zombie outbreak and save the local girl scout troop."

Taking the title of 'Most High Concept Movie Title' away from Cowboys And Aliens, Boy Scouts vs. Zombies centers on a boy scout troop who are all that stand between a pack of zombies and the girl scouts they want to make their dinner. The script, by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki, was on the 2010 Blacklist, a list of well recieved, un-produced scripts complied by Hollywood studios. The concept of Boy Scouts Versus Zombies is quite simple: A pack of zombies are intent on eating a group of Girl Scouts on a camping trip and a nearby troupe of Boy Scouts must save them. It's a concept that original writers Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki spun into a Black List script and now Etan Cohen, the writer of Tropic Thunder and Idiocracy, is in talks to direct the film for Paramount.Cohen has only one previous directing credit - a 2007 short titled My Wife Is Retarded - but has been in demand as a writer for years and his long standing association with Ben Stiller certainly doesn't hurt in industry circles. Cohen is currently supervising a new draft by Lona Williams...

If you visit Etan Cohen's IMDb page, it kindly reminds you that this man is not to be confused with another screenwriter, Ethan Cohen. Well good, we're glad that's cleared up, otherwise we might have been forced to come up with another lazy gag about them being different people. The page may need to be amended slightly now though, as not only is Etan Cohen a screenwriter, but he's set to become a fully fledged director too after signing on to helm "Boy Scouts vs. Zombies."
Cohen is perhaps best known for writing "Tropic Thunder" and for being one of the many contributors to "Men In Black III." We're also intrigued by his script called "Revenge of the Jocks," which is currently in pre-production. Cohen has nothing to do with the script for "Boy Scouts vs. Zombies" though, it was penned by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki ("College Road Trip...

If 'Ninjas vs. Zombies' didn't grab you. If 'Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies' seems a little out there. And if 'Cockneys vs Zombies' just isn't going to be your cup of tea. Then why not try Paramount's 'Boy Scouts vs. Zombies'? Yes it seems just about anyone can go up against the undead these days and it appears that 'Men in Black III' and 'Madagascar 2' scribe Etan Cohen is in negotiations to make his directorial debut with the new horror-comedy for the studio. Cohen would helm from a script penned by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki ('College Road Trip') which would mark his first feature as director. Lona Williams ('Drop Dead Gorgeous') has been tapped to provide a redraft. So I wonder how many Boy Scout woodland skills will be utilised in offing the dead? Whatever happens this does sound like one hell of a good project.

While simpler doesn't always equal better (Cowboys Vs Aliens didn't track too well as a title), Etan Cohen (Men In Black III) is going very simple indeed with the title of his directing debut: Boy Scouts Vs Zombies is exactly what it sounds like, as it "centers on a troop that must save a group of girl scouts from a pack of zombies with designs on spoiling a camping trip." Bearing a name far too similar to one of America’s finest talents can’t be great fun, but don’t go and think that Etan Cohen hasn’t done some great work. King of the Hill, Idiocracy, and Tropic Thunder are all funny, interesting looks at American life, acting as three shining credits on an otherwise innocuous resume.
