Pulsar Content has boarded “Mikado,” a heartwarming family film written and directed by Baya Kasmi, who previously directed “Iʼm All Yours” and “The (in)famous Youssef Salem.”
“Mikado” is produced by Karé Production (“The Presidentʼs Wife”) and Films Grand Huit (“Disco Boy”). The film stars Felix Moati (“No Manʼs Land”) alongside Ramzy Bedia (“Donʼt Die Too Hard!”) and Vimala Pons (“Vincent Must Die”), who previously worked with Kasmi.
Pulsar Content will be launching international sales at the European Film Market with an exclusive promo-reel.
The film follows Mikado and Laetitia, who lead an alternative lifestyle aboard a van with their home-schooled children Nuage and Zephir. One day, their van breaks down, forcing them to lead a somewhat “normal” life over summer.
“We immediately fell in love with Bayaʼs script,” said Pulsar Content co-founders Gilles Sousa and Marie Garrett. “It is both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time, and a wonderful role for Felix Moati.

Wingwomen is a movie directed by Mélanie Laurent based on the novel by Jérôme Mulot. It stars Mélanie Laurent, Adèle Exarchopoulos, and Isabelle Adjani.
“Wingwomen ” is a comedy that combines action and humor and, after a somewhat hesitant start in terms of pace, gradually takes shape and structure in the cinematic sense. It is a film that knows what it’s playing and what its strengths are – a light French comedy with a touch of action, pace, and three endearing women who know how to handle themselves in a challenging world.
While the plot may not be entirely original, and it is not a role that showcases Isabelle Adjani’s talents, who is, nonetheless, the main attraction of the film and it reminds us of her recent performances.
Movie Review Wingwomen
“Wingwomen ” may not be a film that you will remember for a lifetime, nor will it be an unpleasant experience.

"Okay, it's showtime!" Netflix has dropped the full trailer for the French heist comedy called Wingwomen, the latest feature film directed by actress Mélanie Laurent (following up her films The Mad Women's Ball and Galveston previously). The film's original French title is just Voleuses, which translates to Thieves, but apparently this doesn't work as well in English - so they switched to Wingwomen. Inspired by Bastien Vivès, Jérôme Mulot and Florent Ruppert's French graphic novel "La Grande Odalisque", the film is about a gang of female expert thieves targeting high-end loot. Tired of life on the run, two expert thieves and best friends recruit feisty Sam (Bresch) to assist them with one last job — unlike any they've done before. This fun action comedy stars Adèle Exarchopoulos, Mélanie Laurent, and Manon Bresch as the three main women, with Philippe Katerine, Felix Moati, and Isabelle Adjani as Marraine. Looks like it'll be entertaining.

Mélanie Laurent, who broke through in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” and has since made a name for herself as a filmmaker, is back in the director’s chair with “Wingwomen,” coming to Netflix Nov. 1.
The movie, in which Laurent stars alongside Adèle Exarchopoulos, Manon Bresch and Isabelle Adjani, is a rare breed of action-comedy driven by fearless female characters. Laurent and Exarchopoulos star as high-profile thieves and best friends who decide to retire from their life on the run. They recruit Sam, a young and feisty car racer (Bresch) to assist them with one last job, but quickly clash with their godmother’s will (Adjani).
“Wingwomen” could be mistaken as a French twist on “Charlie’s Angels,” but the film boasts timely themes of female empowerment and sisterhood that are reminiscent of Laurent’s previous films, in particular 2021’s “The Mad Women’s Ball.”

Italy’s Valerio Ferrara was named the winner of the 25th edition La Cinef for his warm take on a hapless barber who believes in conspiracy theories in “A Conspiracy Man” (“Il Barbiere Complottista”). Laughing stock of his family, nobody takes him seriously. Until he is arrested by the police.
“Personally, I have a special affection for the cinema of this country,” said Canadian actor Monia Chokri, praising the director’s sense of humor. The film hails from Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia.
“Comedy, as a genre, is undervalued at festivals. And yet, from making comedies myself, I know it’s the most difficult one. It’s a cutthroat genre: you either laugh or you don’t. We all laughed spontaneously,” she added.
“You are crazy! All of you! Oh, my God,” exclaimed the filmmaker at the prize ceremony on Thursday evening.
“Comedy is always viewed as something that’s not serious.

Le Pacte has nabbed the distribution rights to two features ahead of the Cannes Film Festival. The Paris-based outfit will be in charge of worldwide sales for a thriller from “Les Misérables” writer Giordano Gerdelini, and a family drama from “Diane Has the Right Shape” director Fabien Gorgeart.
Gerdelini’s “On the Edge” (original title “Entre la vie et la mort”) was shot last year and is in post-production. It is set in Brussels and centers around Leo (Antonio de la Torre), a Spanish metro driver who sees a young man in distress on the edge of the train platform. He recognizes his son Hugo right before he falls onto the rails and then dies at the hospital.

We spoke to Souheila Yacoub, Félix Moati, James Krishna Floyd and Mélanie Thierry, as each actor talks in depth about their characters and what attracted them to this production. We also dig into the politics of the show, and speak to Yacoub about the struggles in getting good roles that transcend the usual stereotypes for Arabic performers. Meanwhile Floyd tells us why he recently added ‘Krishna’ into his stage name, and Moati and Thierry talk about the current cinematic landscape in their native country of France.

Hulu has dropped an action-packed trailer to “No Man’s Land,” an epic war series, love story and, above all, tale of personal odyssey.
Setting it apart, the eight-part series takes place against the background of the Syrian Kurd Ypj women’s militia push back against Isis, a struggle featuring formidable female fighters.
A Hulu Original, set to bow in the U.S. on Nov. 18, “No Man’s Land” is created by “Fauda” and “First Flag” producer Maria Feldman as well as Eitan Mansuri, behind Omri Givon’s 2018 Canneseries best series winner “When Eagles Fly.”
In a pedigree creative package, the series is written by “False Flag’s” Amit Cohen and “Euphoria’s” Ron Leshem.
That is reflected in a multi-level series which is at once intimate drama and geo-political eye-opener, and spangled by set piece action scenes between the Ypj and Isis, which make up much of the trailer.

Hulu’s upcoming drama, “No Man’s Land,” tells the story of the all-female militia that fought in the Syrian civil war against Isis. Called the Ypj, or Women’s Protection Units, co-creators Maria Feldman and Amit Cohen explained the stories behind these courageous women, and why Isis soldiers were terrified of dying by their hand, during Hulu’s portion of the virtual summer press tour Friday.
“I think they became a potent force because, funnily, Isis soldiers are scared of women,” Feldman said. “This idea came to me when I was watching a news report from the war in Syria about Kurdish fighters, and I saw an image of two very young women in camouflage clothes and colorful scarves. One was shooting a sniper rifle and another one was standing next to her and making this weird noise, shouting ‘la la la.”

Arte France, a bastion of quality European TV, is looking to make its French series ever less French , as it consolidates its position as one of Europe’s most internationally-minded TV operators.
Early fruit of that drive, “No Man’s Land,” – “in microcosm, and in a thriller format, what we’re trying to do in general,” Olivier Wotling, Arte France’s head of drama, told Variety – was selected for main competition at Series Mania. Had the TV festival taken place in Lille, it would surely have been a strong contender for its best series prize.

One of the major buzz titles over the last seven days’ Series Mania/MipTV virtual marketplace, “No Man’s Land” starts in Paris, as Antoine, a construction engineer corroded by guilt at his sister’s death in a terrorist attack, thinks he glimpses her in TV footage of the Kurdish Ypg militia.
Minutes later in series terms, he has made it over the border from Turkey into Syria and into an extraordinary, if highly grounded true-facts-based, world where the Ypg has since 2013 fought Isis yihadists.
The geographical coordinates of Syria are hazy – the series uses no location credits; its landscape is other worldly; its gender are reversed – it’s the women who bear arms given the Islamic belief that a man killed by a woman will have a hard time getting to heaven; and its stakes humble Antoine as the Ypg wage a war for freedom, which Western powers yet prefer to ignore.

On paper, everything about Resistance suggests a surefire Academy Award juggernaut. After all, it’s a film that has multiple Oscar nominees in the cast, is set during World War II, centers on the plight of European Jews against the Nazis, and is a biopic of a famous person in the arts. Start carving the statue now, right? Well, not so fast. While Resistance is worthy of a recommendation, it’s mostly a decent picture elevated by a really strong performance by Jesse Eisenberg. Hitting VOD tomorrow, it’s a would be prestige player that can scratch the itch for classy cinema during an otherwise rough (for so many reasons) late March. The movie is a biopic and historical drama, looking at a pivotal time in the early life of Marcel Marceau (Eisenberg), after a prologue (as well as a bookend during the climax) with General George S. Patton (Ed Harris...

Marcel Marceau’s first public performance was in front of three thousand troops after Paris was liberated during World War II. It wasn’t some Uso stunt, though. General Patton didn’t hire the Strasbourg native to give a show because his men needed a laugh. If anything he gave the stage to the as yet unknown “Bip the Clown” as a reward for everything he did as a member of the French resistance and a liberator himself by taking hundreds of Jewish children across the Swiss Alps to freedom. Those kids were his private audience—orphans seeking solace after many witnessed the murder of their own parents at the hands of the Nazis. They’re the ones who softened his ego-driven dream of dramatic stardom to recognize comedy’s unparalleled cathartic power.

"We need to train them to survive." "What good does it do to teach them fear? I think it's important to help the children laugh... in the middle of this war." IFC Films has unveiled the first official trailer for a WWII film titled Resistance, about a young French actor who joins the French Resistance at the beginning of the second World War. Jesse Eisenberg stars as Marcel Mangel, who fought with the resistance in Limoges and helped save the lives of ten thousand Jewish orphans in France. The full cast includes Edgar Ramírez, Clémence Poésy, Bella Ramsey, Matthias Schweighöfer, Géza Röhrig, Karl Markovics, Félix Moati, Alicia von Rittberg, and Vica Kerekes. This looks very powerful and inspiring, even with a few of the cliche war movie moments. Eisenberg, despite not being French, looks to be giving it his all as Marcel. “Fertile Crescent,” which just started lensing in Belgium with Melanie Thierry (“Memoir of War”), Félix Moati (“Sink or Swim”) and James Purefoy (“Rome”), was recently acquired by Hulu for the U.S. and Arte in France.
The show was created by Maria Feldman (“False Flag”), Eitan Mansuri (“When Heroes Fly”), Amit Cohen (“False Flag”) and Ron Leshem (“Euphoria”). Directed by Oded Ruskin (“False Flag”), the series centers on a seemingly picture-perfect French family shattered by the death of their estranged daughter in a suicide bombing in Jerusalem. Fertile Crescent heads to Hulu, with James Purefoy starring in the modern drama series set during the Syrian Civil War.
Fertile Crescent will be Hulu’s next historical war drama series, this one set to cover a particular conflagration that’s ongoing, that of the Syrian Civil War.
Hulu has given a straight-to-series order for Fertile Crescent as an 8-episode drama, with James Purefoy set as its star. The series is set against the post-Arab-Spring uprising against Syrian president Bashar al-Assad; a conflict that was not only complicated by the rise of Isis in the region, but – for a time – even became a Cold War-esque battleground of international brinkmanship between the U.S. and Russia.
With the Syrian Civil War as the backdrop, the drama will be seen through the eyes of Antoine, a young French man searching for his estranged, presumed-dead sister. As the official description explains,...

Hulu has given a straight-to-series order for the Syrian civil war drama “Fertile Crescent,” starring James Purefoy, the streamer announced on Wednesday.
The project centers on Antoine, a young French man searching for his estranged, presumed-to-be-dead sister amid the civil war in Syria. While unraveling the mystery, Antoine ends up joining forces and traveling with a unit of Kurdish female fighters in Isis-occupied territory. In the process he crosses paths with adventurers and anarchists, spies and innocent victims, providing a “unique look on the tragic events in Syria, and the way they affect the entire world.”
Purefoy will star in the eight-episode series alongside French actors Félix Moati and Mélanie Thierry, as well as Souheila Yacoub, Joe Ben Ayed, James Floyd, Dean Ridge, Julia Faure, François Caron and Céline Samie.
Maria Feldman and Eitan Mansuri co-created the series with writers Amit Cohen and Ron Leshem, in collaboration with Xabi Molia.

Anaïs Demoustier brings unaffected charm to this Lille-based love-triangle farce
From Truffaut’s Jules et Jim to Bertolucci’s The Dreamers, Bertrand Blier’s Ménage to Rohmer’s The Collector, French cinema has a seemingly inexhaustible appetite for love triangles, preferably luxuriantly doomed and tragic ones. By contrast, the sexual dynamic in this Lille-based bedroom farce is decidedly frothy. Anaïs Demoustier plays Mélodie, a lawyer who is in a tortured gay relationship with wannabe singer Charlotte (Sophie Verbeeck). Mélodie knows that Charlotte will never leave her boyfriend Micha (Félix Moati); it’s a constant source of anguish. However, Mélodie hadn’t reckoned on the smouldering attraction between her and Micha igniting into a fully fledged affair. She finds herself cheating on both sides of the couple, with the other. The skittish comic approach is tempered by the fact that all three actors – and Demoustier in particular – bring an unaffected charm...

Lucie (Chloé Coulloud) is a young lady who takes a job training as an in-house caregiver under the tutelage of a crotchety veteran. She is introduced to an elderly woman named Mrs. Jessel, who is over 100 years old and lies in a cerebral coma in her barren home. By chance, she learns of her past as a dance instructor, and that a treasure lies in the disheveled habitat.
Along with her friends Ben (Jérémy Kapone) and William (Félix Moati), who like Lucie, are strapped for cash, they break in and enter a surreal world where the line between reality and fantasy are blurred. They are engulfed in a supernatural landscape that they can’t escape from, as they find out Mrs. Jessel’s dead daughter has crept back from beyond the grave after spending most of her afterlife in limbo and has vengeance on her mind.

Nothing thus far at Ff 2011 had revolted me as much as previous years' screenings had. Luckily, I could rely upon writer-directors Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury to right that wrong. The plot is extremely simple. During Anna's (Chloé Marcq) first day at work as a home healthcare provider, she tags along with an old pro, Wilson (Catherine Jacob). Their rounds take them to a scary old mansion in which Jessel (Marie-Claude Pietragalla) is rotting away in a coma.
