Tom Selleck is one of the most well-known television actors in Hollywood at present. A decorated thespian, Selleck has an arms-length list of accolades to his name. He has appeared in several popular shows, such as the long-running Blue Bloods and Magnum, P.I., playing the titular character, for which he received several Emmy Award nominations. Given Selleck’s standing in the television industry, he is also one of the richest actors around.
Tom Selleck‘s acting genius is not just limited to television, though. He has also acted in movies, such as Three Men and a Baby (1987) and its sequel, Three Men and a Lady (1990), where he played the bachelor architect, Peter Mitchell. Moreover, Selleck cemented his name in pop culture when he played Dr. Richard Burke, Monica Geller’s love interest, on Friends.

With the 2023 Oscar nominations announced today, "Top Gun: Maverick" is flying high with six nominations including Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Best Sound, Film Editing, Best Visual Effects and, finally, Best Original Song for the Lady Gaga's "Hold My Hand." Seeing how the long awaited sequel almost single-handedly brought the moviegoing public back to theaters after the pandemic, the recognition today for Best Picture didn't seem to surprise that many people. Not only is it one of the best sequels ever made, it's grossed almost 1.5 billion at the box office. That kind of mammoth success doesn't usually translate to Oscar gold, but Tom Cruise and company delivered a surprisingly emotional follow-up that doesn't just thrill the audience with aerial acrobatics. It actually has heart.
One nomination that is a little unexpected is Adapted Screenplay. At first glance, the script doesn't seem in concert with the dialogue-heavy screenplays that usually prick up the ears of voters.

“Top Gun Maverick” starring Tom Cruise was a box office success.
An amusing behind-the-scenes tale regarding the entire cast of the movie has been revealed by actor Danny Ramirez.

His remarks appear to indicate that the group had quite a fitness adventure, and he provided the following justification for his opinion that everything was amusing:
“There was a lot of competition with the guys, since the beginning of filming, when it came to working out,” Ramirez told Page Six. “I think it’s just funny, being with a bunch of dudes just pushing each other to the limit at the gym,” he added.

Welcome to Oscar Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Oscar race — via Slack, of course. This week, we break down Best Actor, which has three strong frontrunners and one wide-open slot.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! It’s Friday and, for us, one of the biggest days of the year: the release of “Ticket to Paradise.” Having seen it last night, I’m about to put it in all over the place at the Golden Globes and will be bending your ear about George Clooney as a Best Actor contender both there and even at the Screen Actors Guild Awards (lol). But for now, let’s talk about realistic Best Actor contenders. Today brings us the release of “The Banshees of Inisherin” as well, which has Colin Farrell giving perhaps his most acclaimed performance yet. Farrell is a...

The classic action movie Top Gun, which initially premiered in 1986, finally got a sequel 36 years later, and it’s every bit as action-packed and intense as the first one. The movie saw Tom Cruise reprise his role as Pete Mitchell, and the film also saw the return of Val Kilmer. Top Gun: Maverick was directed by Joseph Kosinski, who previously worked on CGI-heavy projects like Tron: Legacy. While the movie saw the return of Cruise and Kilmer, new faces also appeared in the film, many of whom hadn’t even been born when the first one dominated theaters. The film grossed over

Top Gun: Maverick has now made studio history as it passed 600 million at the domestic box office on Tuesday evening.
The Top Gun sequel has now earned 601.9 million in North America. In June, the movie passed 1 billion at the global box office, the first Tom Cruise film to achieve the milestone and the first to do so this year. To date, the movie has earned 595.6 million in international receipts for a cumulative total of nearly 1.2 billion, globally.
The domestic box office milestone has been accomplished by only a handful of titles, largely Marvel films. Currently, The Tom Cruise movie ranks 12th in all-time North American ticket sales, with the 11th and 10th spots held by Incredibles 2 (608 million) and Star Wars: The Last Jedi (620 million), respectively.

Tom Cruise’s Pete Mitchell keeps soaring to new box office heights.
Paramount’s blockbuster sequel “Top Gun: Maverick has surpassed 600 million in North American ticket sales, a milestone that only a dozen films have ever reached.
Box office revenues currently stand at 601.9 million domestically and 595.6 million internationally, bringing the film’s global tally to a staggering 1.19 billion. Weeks ago, “Top Gun: Maverick” became the first movie of the year (and only the second in Covid times) to surpass 1 billion worldwide.
After nearly two months in theaters, “Maverick” now ranks as the 12th-highest grossing film at the domestic box office. Since the action flick has shown zero signs of slowing down on the big screen, the movie could fly higher on all-time charts. It’ll almost certainly take down the No. 11 spot, which currently belongs to “Incredibles 2” with 608 million, and it’ll likely float past the films in ninth and 10th place,...

Now, showrunner Peter Mitchell, writer Mary Pederson, and star Hélène Joy are already teasing the 12th installment. An Ovation Victorian mystery drama, The Artful Detective stars Yannick Bisson, Hélène Joy, Jonny Harris, Thomas Craig, Lachlan Murdoch, Georgina Reilly, Kristian Bruun, Arwen Humphreys, and Mouna Traoré. The Canadian mystery drama centers on William Murdoch (Bisson) — a good-looking, innovative Toronto detective. Murdoch uses fingerprinting, Uv Light, and trace evidence in his investigations. Working alongside him to crack the city’s grizzliest murders are pathologist Dr. Julia Ogden (Joy) and Constable George Crabtree (Harris) — Murdoch’s righthand man.

It’s languished on the fringes of development for years, spouting nine kinds of rumors and speculation as to whether Tom Cruise would ever suit up once again as the best-in-class Naval aviator, Lt. Pete Mitchell. Now, we have an answer: Top Gun 2 has been cleared for takeoff, and it’ll enter production early next year bearing the title Top Gun: Maverick.
That’s according to Cruise himself, who made the announcement while chatting to Access Hollywood a few weeks back. At the time, the actor – who’s currently starring in The Mummy – noted that the long-rumored sequel will be “stylistically” similar to the original, which helped launch his career into the stratosphere back in ’86. It’s one of Cruise’s most celebrated roles and to this day, still some of his best work. As such, news that a second Top Gun is finally taking flight is music to our ears.

Cast one eye over Tom Cruise’s decorated filmography and you’ll find that, beyond the Mission: Impossible series and the upcoming Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, the actor seldom dips his toe into sequel territory. That’s quite the feat, but it seems after M:i and now Reacher, Cruise could bend his cardinal rule once again for another follow-up: Top Gun 2.
Though it threatened to unravel soon after the tragic passing of director Tony Scott four years ago, Top Gun 2 is alive and kicking, with Cruise and Co. seemingly out to engineer a sequel that will tackle some hefty themes including the rise of drone warfare and the subsequent death of the fighter pilot era. That’s certainly a radical departure from the cheesy romp that first took flight 30 years ago, and while he stopped short of offering any tangible updates, Tom Cruise told Screen Rant recently...

• Joaquim de Almeida (Fast Five) has signed on to play the male lead opposite Sandra Bullock in David Gordon Green’s Our Brand Is Crisis. Zoe Kazan (What If) has also signed on for the political dramedy. In addition to Bullock, they’re joining Scoot McNairy, Billy Bob Thornton, Anthony Mackie, and Ann Dowd. The film is based on Rachel Boynton’s 2005 documentary of the same name, which explored American political campaign strategies in Bolivia. Green’s film stars Bullock as “Calamity” Jane Bodine, a retired American political consultant, with de Almeida as Castillo, the former president of Bolivia who is running for office again.

Fine performances enliven a moving drama about a group of classical musicians whose uneasy harmony is put at risk by illness
Musical groups, coming together, working harmoniously, splitting up, reuniting, provide one of the great metaphors for human activity. In the cinema we encounter them in such different forms as the real-life bandleaders Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey feuding and going their different ways in The Fabulous Dorseys; Bing Crosby's inner-city priest reforming delinquents as a choir in Going My Way; Fellini's allegorical Orchestra Rehearsal presenting Italy as a musical rabble that can only function when submitting to a firm conductor; or Dustin Hoffman's recent Quartet, which sees elderly singers burying old differences to recreate their celebrated quartet from Rigoletto.

Yaron Zilberman’s A Late Quartet is a dreadfully joyless film about three thoroughly terrible middle-aged people, one obnoxiously chipper young woman, and Christopher Walken, excellent in the brief stretches he is given.
Walken plays Peter Mitchell, an elderly Cellist and anchor of a famous string quartet called “The Fugue,” who has just been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. With proper medication, he may be able to play a few more shows, but his career is effectively over, and his news sends the Quartet – which has played together for 25 years – into turmoil.
Walken’s material is very good, and I want to underline that point before this review becomes oppressively negative. The physical and psychological strain of his illness is handled with a deft dramatic hand, and Walken does a spectacular job illustrating how Peter comes to grips with his own mortality. His scenes are filled with pure and true emotion,...

Brendan and Warren’s plan to get rid of Danny went awry…
This week, we pick up right where we left off: Brendan was unable to go through with killing Warren at Danny’s behest, even though Ste’s life was at stake. Instead, he schemed with Warren to double-cross Danny. After learning what Danny had planned, Warren decided to take care of Danny himself.
Meanwhile, on the other side of Hollyoaks, Jason remained unaware that his family planned to institutionalize him in order to "cure" him of gender identity disorder (Gid) while Bart tried to understand what Jason was going through.
Soaps don’t often surprise me, but I admit I was surprised by Danny’s death. Oh, I knew that the character was doomed. While the spoilers didn’t reveal who the victim would be, they made it clear that either Brendan, Warren or Danny would die, and...

Tom Selleck is set to reteam with Ted Danson and Steve Guttenberg for the highly-anticipated second sequel to the trio's hit comedy "3 Men and a Baby. Selleck, who played Peter Mitchell in the original 1987 movie and its 1990 sequel "3 Men and a Little Lady", has confirmed a third film is in the works.
The original film followed three committed bachelors who are charged with looking after a baby girl one of them has fathered. And the latest installment may see one of the actors giving away their daughter at her wedding - but Selleck reveals he has not read the script yet. He can only hope it's as clever as the first.
He tells MTV, "It is true that Disney checked my availability. And I know they checked Ted's and Steve's and then had a script written, I think tentatively called '3 Men and a Bride', which kind of says it all about the story.

Last fall, we heard from Steve Guttenberg that another Three Men and a ... movie is in the works, and it would reunite the actor with Ted Danson and Tom Selleck as the titular trio who suddenly found themselves parents to a little infant girl. After the original, humongous hit, Three Men and a Baby, the guys regrouped for Three Men and a Little Lady, and now 20 years later, they may do Three Men and a Bride. And Selleck is the next to address the idea. Talking with MTV News while promoting The Killers, he confirmed that Disney is indeed developing the project and had approached the mustached actor about reprising his role as architect Peter Mitchell. He also admitted he's hopeful that the sequel will come to fruition:
