We’re exploring Sundance’s past all week, so we’ve got the usual batch of stellar short films with a Sundance twist. It’s like being there without the snow boots or Harvey Weinstein ruining screenings on his cell phone. Why Watch? In 2002, Jamie Babbit (But I’m a Cheerleader) screened her short film about an aging lesbian couple on their way to a bridge game and earned an honorable mention at Sundance. It’s easy to see why. With an acerbic, hilarious performance from Jeanette Miller as an elderly nag and a bizarre catalyst that spells doom for more than just the couple, it’s a kind of shock to the system that feels like Erma Bombeck by way of Chuck Palahniuk. And, yes, it’s about the Jello. What will it cost? Only 7 minutes. Skip Work. Watch More Short Films.

We live in dark and soulless times. That much is obvious in Hollywood's output of grim apocalyptic tales, gory horror flicks and iconoclastic reinventions.
Put all three into a juicer and you get Legion, whose marketing consisted of a memorable image of its star Paul Bettany as a lean, muscular, tattooed angel holding a machine gun and a knife. That picture (which is the sort of thing fanboys describe as 'badass') also serves as the Blu-ray cover art.
Having missed this Scott Stewart-directed release at the cinema, I have just experienced the Blu-ray - released in shops on Monday, August 9 - with fresh eyes. So how does it stand up? Is there a solid film behind the striking imagery?
The story begins when the Archangel Michael (Bettany) falls to Earth in Los Angeles, hacks off his wings, steals a cache of guns and speeds off in a stolen police car.

Paul Bettany plays a badass angel in this horror film
Not many horror movies have the decency to let elderly performers steal the show. But Jeanette Miller absolutely walks off with this one, in the robustly written role of a potty-mouthed satanic old lady who takes a fatal bite out of someone's neck. Paul Bettany plays the particularly badass angel who comes to earth in an attempt to stop God and his heavenly armies wiping out humanity. The first time, God did it with a flood. Now he's doing it with creepy monsters who can only be repelled with deafening fire from sexy weapons. At least it will keep you awake.

Well the trailers, posters, interviews and promotional hoopla are all behind us. Scott Stewart's Legion finally hit theatres and the apocalyptic dust has settled. Where do the chips fall? In fairness to the makers of Legion, it’s a good bet they don’t watch Supernatural, have hazy if any memories of the Prophecy franchise and think comparisons to Terminator are not applicable owing to the difference between horror/fantasy and horror/sci-fi. However, viewers who are interested in Legion’s subject matter may notice some similarities to all of the above, along with the fact that Legion feels a bit rushed by comparison. Shock Till You Drop has just watched 20 minutes of thriller movie "Legion" when visiting the film's set. The site then shared what they have seen from the selected clips, which are believed to highlight some of the main themes of the film as well as to introduce the cast ensemble.
[Spoiler Alert!] The first clip highlights acrhangel Michael, played by Paul Bettany, who smashes onto the Earth's surface, breaks the metal halo around his neck and slices the wings from his back. He loads up on guns and ammo from a nearby shop and takes on two cops who respond to a break-in. The footage is said offering a glimpse of "angelic possession" when one of the officers is shaking until his teeth become pointy and his eyeballs turn black.
The next video features Jeanette Miller's Gladys who enters a small, New Mexico diner and tells Adrianne Palicki's Charlie, who may be pregnant with Christ,...

The script for the angels-versus-humans action flick Legion has gone through a lot of incarnations. Scriptwriter Peter Schink laid out the whole twisted evolution in a interview with Shock Till You Drop. It all started, he explains, back in the '90s when he got stuck with a madwoman at a Carl's Jr. in the desert:
I was out in the town of Mojave and in an unlikely event I got snowed in during a freak snow storm there. Mojave being a small town, all of the motels immediately got sold out. I was stuck spending the entire night in a Carl's Jr. restaurant. I was locked in with a lot of strange people and there was this old woman in there who was off her rocker. She was babbling through the whole night and when the sun came up and the snow cleared, I was happy to get out of there.
