- David Mercer was born on June 27, 1928 in Wakefield, Yorkshire, England, UK. He was a writer and actor, known for Morgan! (1966), The Wednesday Play (1964) and Providence (1977). He died on August 8, 1980 in Haifa, Israel.
- Prolific British TV dramatist and occasional screenwriter, a former teacher. Often drew from his own political experiences and working-class upbringing. He was an ardent socialist, yet fascinated by the aristocracy. He also had a long-standing interest in psychiatry.
