- Being a correspondent for the "Hamburger Abendblatt" in East Asia, he was the first German journalist to travel on the Trans-Sibirian Railway from Beijing to Moscow after World War II.
- In the 1960s and 1970s, he concentrated on writing scripts for TV shows and movies dealing with critical subjects such as pollution in Smog (1973) or the media in Das Millionenspiel (1970). However, his biggest success has been the German version of All in the Family (1971), Ein Herz und eine Seele (1973).
- Once called the Mayor of Berlin Richard von Weizsäcker, later Germany's President, disrespectfully "Richie" on his show Leute (1983).
