In the Loop

5 August 2009 7:30 AM, PDT | Pastemagazine.com | See recent PasteMagazine news »

Release Date: July 24 (limited)

Director: Armando Iannucci

Writers: Armando Iannucci, Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, Ian Martin and Tony Roche

Starring: James Gandolfini, Tom Hollander, Peter Capaldi, Paul Higgins and Gina McKee

Cinematographer: Jamie Cairney

Studio/Run Time: IFC Films, 106 mins.

In the Loop begins with the British Secretary of State for International Development Simon Foster (Tom Hollander) accidentally stating that war is unforeseeable. What seems like a tautological statement to him, whereby he means that all the future is in fact unforeseeable, ends up misunderstood as an anti-war sentiment. After another of his verbal blunders is interpreted to mean the opposite, he’s quickly dragged into the realm of international politics, where the lives of millions in a possible Middle Eastern war are determined by the name of a committee, whether the time of a meeting can be changed and if a constituent’s wall collapses.

Thursday Trailers: In the Loop

26 June 2009 12:04 AM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

The Sundance sensation In the Loop will be making its way to select theaters and VOD on July 24th courtesy of IFC Films. Armando Iannucci’s film is an adaptation of the short lived 2005 British TV comedy series In the Thick of It with much of the show’s cast reprising their roles in the film. The political farce centers on a British Secretary of State and his entourage trying to halt a war, he may have accidentally started, through any means necessary. Dry British hilarity is bound to ensue. The comedy is getting some of the year’s best reviews (including a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes) with many using the “Spinal Tap meets Dr. Strangelove” description. The ensemble cast includes Tom Hollander, Peter Capaldi, Gina McKee, James Gandolfini, and Steve Coogan. »

Sweet Poster Art for In the Loop

20 April 2009 | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

- Looks like the IFC folks and filmmaker Armando Iannucci are making the most out of a Tribeca Film Festival showing, supporting the movie early on with some poster art eye candy (retro fit) which eventually comes out July 24th. Following in the not so original, but politically-minded "Hope" teaser posters, is the final poster premiere which accompanied Iannucci's recollections of a trip down in Washington - read here. I would not have signalled out the poster if it didn't grab my attention, and the following synopsis below, we get an idea of how scrambled the lines of communication become when the chain of command is lead by the incompetent. How do you like the one sheet? Written by Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci and Tony Roche, the Us President and UK Prime Minister fancy a war, but not everyone agrees that war is a good thing. Us General »

Brand New Clip From In The Loop

5 March 2009 1:00 AM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

It's nearly time for us to get In The Loop, with the release of the acerbic satire next month. To get everyone prepped, a brand-new clip has been released, plus a rather pop-arty red and blue Barack Obama style campaign poster.Spiralling off from director Armando Iannucci's BBC political comedy In The Thick Of It, it follows two sides of a trans-atlantic plot to invade a Middle-eastern country. With sceptics on both sides, including the imposing American General Miller played by James Gandolfini and British Minister of International Development Simon Foster, played by Tom Hollander.Click the image above to view larger version Guardian.co.uk This brand new clip shows Peter Capaldi's director of communications Malcolm Tucker laying into Chris Addison's aide Toby with a slew of The Thick Of It style colourful expletives. The scene also features Hollander's Foster and the unflappable assistant Judy played by Gina McKee. »
