In early January, comedian Katt Williams went on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast and took aim at Cedric the Entertainer for stealing “my very best joke.” The bit in question — which involved a pantomime of driving with music blasting — was first performed by Katt in a 1998 appearance on ComicView, then reproduced by Cedric (according to Katt) for his set in Spike Lee’s The Original Kings of Comedy. Cedric called the accusations “revisionist history” on Instagram.
We’ve been down this road many times before. For much of the 20th century, joke stealing was an open secret. “All comedians steal from all comedians,” the legend Stan Laurel once mused. Some of the biggest names in comedy did it. Milton Berle was so blatant in his joke stealing that he earned the nickname “The Thief of Bad Gags.” Richard Pryor admitted on The Tonight Show that he ripped off his comedy idols,...

Amy Schumer says the joke was not snatched. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live! with Andy Cohen, the Life & Beth star responded to claims that one of her jokes during the 2022 Oscars monologue was stolen from Twitter during her appearance on "Ok. Well, I would like to say, I haven't personally been on Twitter," Schumer said per Variety. "I've had my assistant do it, just so I can remain alive and not kill myself. And also, that joke was written by Suli McCullough. But I thank you guys, always, for making sure that I don't start thievery." The zinger in question is a roast on Leonardo DiCaprio: "He has done so much to fight climate...

Amy Schumer is a comedian, actress, writer and now former Oscar host — but she’s no thief.
The co-host of this year’s wild Oscars, who had enough to deal with in the aftermath of The Slap, addressed accusations that her crack about Leonardo DiCaprio was lifted from Twitter during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live.”
During the ceremony, Schumer joked: “[DiCaprio] has done so much to fight climate change and leave behind a cleaner, greener planet for his girlfriends.”
A fan asked Schumer about joke-stealing rumors swirling on Twitter — not the first that have dogged her — during the call-in portion of “Watch What Happens Live,” The Daily Beast reported Thursday. She replied with a triple-whammy of an alibi:
“Well, I would like to say, I haven’t personally been on Twitter,” she responded. “I’ve had my assistant do it, just so I can remain alive and not kill myself.

Amy Schumer appeared on “Watch What Happens Live!” this week and denied stealing from Twitter the Leonardo DiCaprio joke she made during her monologue at the 94th Academy Awards (via The Daily Beast). Accusations of joke stealing have followed Schumer throughout her career. She roasted DiCaprio at the 2022 Oscars with the following joke: “He has done so much to fight climate change and leave behind a cleaner, greener planet for his girlfriends.” Social media users questioned whether or not Schumer stole the joke from a viral tweet posted in December 2021.
“Ok. Well, I would like to say, I haven’t personally been on Twitter,” Schumer said when asked about stealing the joke. “I’ve had my assistant do it, just so I can remain alive and not kill myself. And also, that joke was written by Suli McCullough. But I thank you guys, always, for making sure that I don’t start thievery.

The Oscars show producer Will Packer has announced key production team members for the 94th Academy Awards, which are set to air live on ABC March 27. In addition, for the first time, a new culinary partner, Ghetto Gastro, will collaborate with longtime chef Wolfgang Puck on the Governor’s Ball menu.
Puck and his Wolfgang Puck Catering will again create the menu for this year’s Governor’s Ball taking place after the telecast, this year with Bronx-based Ghetto Gastro contributing additional menu items. Ghetto Gastro blends influences from the African diaspora, global South ingredients and hip-hop, according to the Academy.
“This is a first-of-its-kind collaboration that breaks boundaries and brings a new flavor to the Oscars Governors Ball,” said Packer. “The Ghetto Gastro Collective, Wolfgang Puck and Academy teams embraced this dope alliance, which is all about uniting people in a true celebration of film and food.”

After canceling the Governors Ball due to Covid concerns last year, the official post-Oscars celebration will be back in action, and that includes Gov Ball perennial Wolfgang Puck back to collaborate on the menu, this year joined by Bronx-based culinary collective Ghetto Gastro. The latter’s work blends influences from the African diaspora, global South ingredients and hip-hop to create offerings that address race, identity and economic empowerment.
“Chef Wolfgang Puck and his masterful team raise the bar with each Governors Ball, and this year will be no different,” said Academy governor and Awards Committee chair Jennifer Todd. “We’re thrilled to welcome the extraordinary talents of Ghetto Gastro to the table. Together, Wolfgang and the Ghetto Gastro collective will create an inspired culinary experience for our Oscars guests.”

Exclusive: They re-activated the late Garry Shandling’s Twitter feed this past March to share some of the comedian’s thoughts from his personal journals and about his comedic process, and now the Shandling Estate along with his friends Bruce Grayson and Suli McCullough are launching a new Garry Shandling website site: GarryShandling.com. The website went live at 9 Am today.
“The site is being launched to give people access to Garry’s writings, both comedy notes and journals,” said Bill Isaacson who was not only Shandling’s lawyer but also a good friend. “So it’s really for two kinds of people, some who just want to smile and others who can learn from his comedic process and journey.”
Isaacson said while other estates send letters and writings to libraries, Shandling’s material is now online for anyone to read and share. “Eventually, the hard copies will go to a library,...

Comedian Sarah Silverman went on "The Rachel Maddow Show" Friday to discuss "Live from N*****head", a comedy show and fundraiser she's putting on this Tuesday to benefit the NAACP.
The event's title is inspired by the sign for Republican candidate Rick Perry's controversially-named hunting camp, which included a charged racial epithet before being painted over (though exactly when is still in question). The story was all over the headlines earlier this month before quickly fading out of the conversation thanks to other gaffes and odd campaign moves.
Maddow seemed to think that the short-lived media coverage had a lot to do with how uncomfortable dancing around the N-word makes most reporters, but Silverman said she's determined to keep the story at the forefront of people's minds in light of the upcoming elections.
"I think any time racism shows itself in a tangible way, and it's not just a gas in the air,...

Comedian and TV actress Sarah Silverman is set to thump Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry with a provocatively titled live comedy show in his home state.
Silverman is marshaling fellow comics for a fund-raiser in Texas titled, “Live From N*****head: Stripping The Paint Off Of Good Ol’ Fashioned Racism.”
The title refers to the controversy over Perry’s West Texas hunting campground where the candidate has entertained friends and supporters. The campground’s former name, “Niggerhead,” was painted on a rock at the entrance for many years.
“This is a never-forget moment,” Silverman said. “The show’s provocative name...
