[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Irrational Season 1 finale “Reciprocity.”] After the events of The Irrational Season 1 finale, we have to see a different Alec (Jesse L. Martin) because he now has the answers he’s been after for years. As he, Marisa (Maahra Hill), Kylie (Travina Springer), Phoebe (Molly Kunz), Rizwan (Arash DeMaxi), and Rose (Karen David) discover, the bombing that left Alec scarred was to cover up one of Senator Sanford’s (James Tupper) staffers dying during one of his events a couple days earlier; she was one of the victims at the church. One of his war buddies, an FBI agent and Marisa’s mentor Bob Caswith (Garry Chalk), is Mathias—and was the one to kill Jace (Brian King). The tag of the finale takes us to six weeks later, with Rose kidnapped and thrown into a van, just after she gets off the phone with Alec. TV Insider turned to ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Irrational Season 1 Episode 10 “Bombshell.”] For most of the latest episode of The Irrational, we’re worried about what might happen to Alec (Jesse L. Martin) with Wes Banning (Ben Cotton), the man who planted the bomb in the church that scarred the professor, not only free but also holding him and his two assistants, Phoebe (Molly Kunz) and Rizwan (Arash DeMaxi) hostage—with another explosive. But after a couple of twists, it’s another character whose life is hanging in the balance at the end. Just before learning of Wes’ escape, Marisa (Maahra Hill) tells Jace (Brian King) she couldn’t stop thinking about who from Sanford’s campaign could have been the target if the bomb at the church had gone off when it was supposed to. The good news: Marisa (Maahra Hill) is probably getting close to solving the mystery of the church bombing that left her ex-husband Alec (Jesse L. Martin) scarred years ago. The bad news: We can only deduce that because someone has bugged her house! The latest episode of The Irrational ended with Marisa telling Jace (Brian King) that though their suspect, Senator Sanford (James Tupper), had been up in the polls and therefore had no reason to bomb the church in hopes of getting the sympathy vote, it’s possible that someone from his team who had been designated for clean-up of his campaign event was the target. But as she showed him the space she’d made for him in her closet—after being hesitant when he brought up the subject earlier—we saw that someone was listening in. Below, Hill talks about that, Marisa’s complicated feelings for both Jace and Alec,...

The person behind the bombing at the church that left Alec (Jesse L. Martin) scarred may be closer to home than he would have ever expected, as he finds out in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the February 5 episode of The Irrational. He’s surprised to hear that Marisa (Maahra Hill) and Jace (Brian King) are going to meet with Senator Sanford as part of their new lead in the ongoing case. It was at the end of the last episode that Jace pitched the possibility of his involvement as something “irrational” to Marisa. Before the bombing, the best polls had Senator Sanford in a deadheat with his opponent, and at worst, he was three points down. “But after the bomb, the Black community turns out huge, and the man wins by five points,” Jace said. It’s far-fetched, but given that none of the other theories have panned out,...

The Irrational — Jesse L. Martin as Alec Mercer — (Photo by: Sergei Bachlakov/NBC) Having filmed several of its episodes prior to the start of last year’s Hollywood strikes, The Irrational was one of the few new network television shows to debut during the fall season. It was able to build up enough of a following so that, once the strikes ended, more episodes were ordered, and the show’s already been renewed for a second season on NBC. Jesse L. Martin, who stars in the behavioral crime procedural, said he’s really excited about both the Season 2 pickup and the extra episodes added onto the first season, because that means the show will be able to come up with what he’s sure will be an amazing season finale. NBC is sticking with Found and The Irrational.
The network has renewed both first-year dramas — one of just a handful of original scripted series to air on a broadcast network this fall — for second seasons. Both shows were developed off-cycle at NBC and thus had a full complement of episodes in the can before strikes by writers and actors led to dozens of productions shutting down in the summer and early fall.
The two series have also performed solidly for NBC: The Irrational, starring Jesse L. Martin, is averaging 6.34 million viewers per episode after seven days of linear viewing, while the Shanola Hampton-led Found clocks in at 5.18 million viewers (not including streaming for either show). They are also the top two broadcast series of the season so far among Black viewers, with Found ranking first.

NBC is making some early renewals.
The network has renewed both of its first-year drama series, Found and The Irrational for second seasons.
The fact that both shows had episodes filmed prior to the start of the broadcast season was a boon for NBC, allowing it to air new scripted series as many of its rivals pivoted to reality series and licensed programming as a result of the dual strikes.
The Irrational has aired seven episodes of its first season and has four more to go starting on Monday January 29 at 10pm. It is currently back in production on those episodes.
Found has currently aired nine episodes with two more to air before the end of the year. It will return on January 9 for its final two episodes of the season and has already finished production on those.

Exclusive: NBC has increased the order of new drama series The Irrational by one episode. Originally picked up for 10 episodes, the series starring Jesse L. Martin will now produce 11 episodes in its first season. Meanwhile, Season 2 of NBC’s comedy series Lopez v. Lopez will consist of 10 episodes, down from the previously ordered 13.
The adjustments come as NBC is fine-tuning its scheduling plans for midseason. The network will likely reveal its midseason premiere dates next week after CBS and ABC announced theirs over the last few days.
The Irrational had filmed 7 episodes when the strike suspended production. The drama is scheduled to resume production next week in Vancouver. It was initially supposed to shoot the three remaining episodes, now that number has gone up to four.

Well, this might be the best way to either get to know someone — or ensure it’ll be the last time these two people spend time together. In the November 6 episode of The Irrational, Alec Mercer (Jesse L. Martin) convinces corporate fixer Rose Dinshaw (guest star Karen David) to go on a 24-hour long first date with him, and TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek at the beginning of it. Alec does get off to a good start, giving her tulips (“I figure you get a lot of roses”) and thanking her for joining him. “Anything for science,” she says, adding, “though a 24-hour date experiment might be the most convoluted excuse a man has used to get me into bed.” Alec insists “that’s not the objective,” explaining, “Anyone can make a good impression over an hour or two after a couple cocktails, and technically this isn’t an experiment,...

Alec Mercer absolutely hates testifying as an expert witness, but he does so for a very good cause in this week’s The Irrational.
Monday’s episode finds Jesse L. Martin’s character hitting the courtroom to help a friend of Kylie’s whose husband was killed in his home when police accidentally — or so they say — stormed the wrong house. The cops have Dr. Dustin Atwood (played by The Resident‘s Malcolm-Jamal Warner) on their side, a morally dubious character who “never met a police shooting he couldn’t justify,” Alec sneers.

The Irrational — – Pictured: (l-r) Jesse L. Martin as Alec Mercer, Maahra Hill as Marisa — (Photo by: Sergei Bachlakov/NBC) On the new show The Irrational, Maahra Hill’s character has quite a complicated relationship with series star Jesse L. Martin’s character: As an FBI agent, she works with him on cases that need his behavioral science expertise, but she also happens to be his ex-wife, which can obviously complicate things. Fortunately for Hill, she spoke about (Before SAG/AFTRA Strike) Martin’s skill and generosity as an actor has taken what could have been an awkward work relationship and made it a very comfortable relationship. Months before Found made good on NBC’s decision to move it from a midseason to fall premiere, its creator Nkechi Okoro Carroll and star/producer Shanola Hampton, best known for Shameless, could hardly contain their enthusiasm. “I knew I wanted to do in my next project something that had meaning or purpose,” the Shameless star revealed during a set visit in Atlanta late February.
Since its Oct. 3 premiere on the heels of The Irrational — another NBC procedural starring Jesse L. Martin as celebrated behavioral science professor Alec Mercer, who helps solve high-stakes cases with his expertise in psychology, body language and other areas — Found has drawn millions of fans, reportedly becoming “Peacock’s best launch to date.” Hampton’s Gabi Mosley is a D.C.-based recovery specialist and master crisis manager leading a diverse team — most of whom, like her, were kidnapped — as they find missing people from marginalized groups.
