Director Mike Newell has set an August shoot at U.K. locations for “China Court.”
The film will be directed by Newell from a script by Brian Kinsey, based on the 1961 novel “China Court: The Hours of a Country House” by Rumer Godden.
The film centers around a house, China Court, and the family that inhabits it. The film follows generations of the family over a century, up to the death of the matriarch in 1961. Characters move seamlessly in and out of each other’s timelines as they grow up, fall in love, fall out with each other and – always – pass on to those who follow them the consequences of their actions.
“White Noise” producer Uri Singer has joined forces with Echo Lake’s Mike Marcus (“The Ward”) and U.K.-based Pippa Cross to produce the film.
Fortitude International’s Nadine de Barros and Singer’s Passage Pictures are financing the film.

Suddenly it’s The Season: Major films are opening, the machinery of hype is heating up, the screening schedules are intense — even the DVD screeners are piling up.
Well, maybe not. Not unless you’re a critic. Or an influencer. “This is like Vegas without the slots,” observed one awards guru about the abolition of screeners.
The most important question of The Season, of course, is: Will filmgoers buy tickets? Or will inertia set in – the sort of “blah” attitude that has crippled the Oscars?
The Motion Picture Academy, for one, is doggedly fighting the blahs, sending out urgent reminders to its members via emails and phone messages. Albeit mixed messages: Get your butt to a movie theater. Or to the Geffen. Or to the Goldwyn (re-opens in January). Or stay home and check out the Academy’s Digital Screening Room.
The critics’ fraternity, to be sure, lives by different rules.

This review was written for the screening at the Tribeca Film Festival.
NEW YORK -- If you would believe Hollywood movies, hit men are usually lovable figures whose professional lives are hampered by psychological angst that can usually be alleviated by therapy. Or, in the case of You Kill Me, in which the protagonist has a drinking problem, with a 12-step program. John Dahl's black comedy might not win any points for originality, but its razor-sharp script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and the hilariously deadpan comic performances by Ben Kingsley and Tea Leoni make it a consistent pleasure. Recently showcased at the Tribeca Film Festival, the film is scheduled for a commercial release in the summer by IFC Films.
Kingsley plays Frank, a Polish hit man in Buffalo who has bungled more than a few jobs because of his propensity for getting drunk on the job. When he fumbles the killing of a Greek mobster (Dennis Farina) who is his boss' Philip Baker Hall) chief rival, he's sent to dry out in San Francisco.
There, thanks to the help of his handler (Bill Pullman), he gets a job as an undertaker's assistant and begins attending AA meetings. Although initially resistant, he's taken under the wing of a friendly fellow member (Luke Wilson) and soon begins to open up, confessing to the startled group not only his addiction but also his profession.
He also begins a relationship with the beautiful and acerbic Laurel (Leoni), who seems to have little problem with either Frank's alcoholism or the way he makes his living. Frank's idyllic recovery is eventually interrupted when the mobster he neglected to eliminate begins raising trouble for his employers.
While the film attempts a level of absurdity that it doesn't quite successfully bring off -- Laurel's quick acceptance of Frank's lifestyle is never convincing, for instance -- it does mark the most hilarious depiction of a professional killer's angst since Grosse Pointe Blank. The script's subtle humor is consistently hilarious (Frank points out at the AA meeting that he never knew he had a drinking problem because he lives in Buffalo), and its comic gems are perfectly realized by the terrific performances and the deceptively atmospheric direction by Dahl.
Kingsley, not always known for his restraint, underplays beautifully as Frank, ultimately becoming an unlikely but entirely winning figure. And while Leoni is simply too stunningly gorgeous to render Laurel's romantic desperation convincing, she too finds just the right comic tone. There is also wonderfully funny work by Wilson, Farina, Pullman and a variety of perfectly cast supporting players.

Overture Films is partnering with Echo Lake Prods. to produce 105 Degrees and Rising, a film set against the backdrop of the fall of Saigon in 1975.
Jon Amiel (Copycat, Entrapment) is attached to direct from a script by William M. Akers.
The story weaves together several arcs as the characters struggle to escape South Vietnam during the final days of the U.S. control over the former capital city, culminating with the dramatic evacuation of the last Americans and many South Vietnamese via helicopter from the roof of the American embassy.
The film's title is based on a secret code broadcast on Armed Forces Radio. The announcement that "the temperature is 105 degrees and rising," followed by eight bars of Bing Crosby's White Christmas, meant all U.S. citizens should immediately evacuate Saigon.
There is no cast attached yet.
Echo Lake's Doug Mankoff, Mike Marcus and Andy Spaulding are producing alongside Rob Cowan. Echo Lake developed the project with Amiel and brought it to Overture, where it is the first production to be developed by the new company under the leadership of Chris McGurk and Danny Rosett.
