With the release of his album Around the World in a Day, many critics wondered if Prince was taking inspiration from The Beatles. They hadn’t inspired him to make the album, and while he acknowledged that they were influential artists, he didn’t know that they would have been successful in the decades after their split. Years after making these remarks, though, Prince proved himself wrong.

Bobby Z., the drummer for Prince’s backing band The Revolution, said that the first Beatles album the artist ever really listened to was Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Paul McCartney and John Lennon were the dynamic songwriting duo of The Beatles. George Harrison wrote a few songs for the band but rarely collaborated with the other members. However, there is one Beatles song where Harrison and McCartney teamed up and competed in writing the best lyric.

Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr reunited for 1995’s The Beatles Anthology project. Initially, they planned on recording background music for the documentary but later decided to record new music. The Beatles were incomplete since John Lennon’s death in 1980, but they still wanted to find a way for his presence to be felt in a new song.

I hate, hate, hate that I subscribe to Esquire magazine's digital edition and yet content from their forthcoming issues come available, for free, online before I can read them on my iPad. What am I paying forc Am I not paying for the privilege to access this information at least first or is it the mere convenience of being able to carry it with me once it does come availablec Either way, a column that will eventually appear on my iPad sometime in the next week or so from the September issue of Esquire has been made available featuring the words of Woody Allen, titled "Woody Allen: What I've Learned" in which the 77-year-old writer/director of the recently released Blue Jasmine offers up a few life lessons he's learned. They are, as you would expect, logical and also, in many instances, involve the scarier things in life, which he...

Keanu Reeves is perhaps the most misunderstood actor of his generation. Quiet and stoic, his is an expressiveness that most often comes through in looks and gestures—hardly a quality likely to come across in the two Matrix sequels. Mark Mann's Generation Um ..., which follows a man named John (Reeves) and his two escort friends over the course of a single day in New York, would appear to give the erstwhile action star more opportunity to shine. It does that in its own way—Reeves is front and center in a thinly sketched narrative anchored by little other than his presence—but also runs into the same problem as countless other stories about emotionally distant people meandering from one unfulfilling encounter to the next: It ends up being ponderous and unf...

Keanu Reeves is making his way back onto the big screen on friday starring in the new film Generation Um… a tale of three friends who form an intimate bond as their deepest secrets from their past are revealed after partying in New York City the night before. Friendships are tested and compromises are made as these three friends are preparing to do it all again tonight. Recently, I got the chance to sit down with both Keanu Reeves and director Mark Mann in a roundtable discussion about the film. Check it out below.
Keanu, your character is kind of a kleptomaniac in the film.
Keanu Reeves: Yes. I steal a camera and some chocolate. (laughs)
When you’re reading it and playing it, what did that bring to the character?
Keanu Reeves: Stealing the camera for John was the only thing he could do in order to have that camera.

It feels like it’s been awhile since we have seen Keanu Reeves star in anything. His last big movie was The Day The Earth Stood Still back in 2008, and since then he has been laying low and starring mostly in independent films like The Private Lives of Pippa Lee and Henry’s Crime. There’s also the time that he has spending trying to finish up 47 Ronin, which has been delayed countless times on its way to the silver screen.
This month, Reeves will appear on the big screen in Generation Um…, a movie that marks the feature film directorial debut of American photographic artist Mark Mann.
In Generation Um…, Reeves plays John, an aimless man who lives in downtown New York and who finds that he’s getting too old for the trendy neighborhood he inhabits. His job is as a driver for an escort service, and he...

Few actors carry over their onscreen persona from one project to another like Keanu Reeves. In recent years, however, his subdued demeanor has been virtually absent from American cinema, save for a handful of supporting roles and one vaguely interesting change of pace in the heist movie "Henry's Crime." Writer-director Mark Mann's "Generation Um…," a bafflingly irreverent, meandering character study, resurrects Reeves' trademark inscrutable delivery, providing the actor with his most characteristic performance in years. It's almost enough to salvage the scraps of ideas that constitute Mann's story -- but not quite. The movie belongs to Reeves more than anyone else. In "Generation Um…," which hits video-on-demand platforms today ahead of its theatrical release next week, Reeves plays a cryptic loser named John. Though the conditions of his employment are unclear for most of the running time, John's life is defined by the time he wastes with two bubbly young women,...

Generation Um… is one of those movies that forces the audience to come to their own conclusion about what they have witnessed, and it does its best not to manipulate or force them to think in a certain way. This is a very interesting method of filmmaking that can produce fascinating results, but it fails here because the three main characters are not terribly interesting and writer/director Mark Mann only touches at the surface of where they are going. Despite some strong performances, Generation Um… feels like a frustratingly missed opportunity.

"Generation Um" gave Keanu Reeves some practice behind the camera ahead of directing his first film, "Man of Tai Chi." The first trailer for "Um," a drama written and directed by Mark Mann, features the 48-year-old actor stealing a camera and turning it on two attractive escorts (Bojana Novakovic, Adelaide Clemens) to ask all sorts of deep, dark and borderline inappropriate questions about their sex life. Since The Day the Earth Stood Still in 2008, Keanu Reeves has laid relatively low key. The actor has appeared in indie films like Henry's Crime and produced and starred int he documentary Side by Side about digital filmmaking (watch it on Netflix Instant), and we're waiting to see 47 Ronin and Man of Tai Chi to come together at some point. Now another smaller release will see the big screen later this year with Generation Um. The film sees John (Reeves) and his two girlfriends enjoying a single night of partying, and documenting their social lifestyle, making revelations about each others, testing their relationship and more. Now the first trailer has arrived, and it feels like it's trying too hard to be an indie film. Watch below! Here's the first trailer for Mark Mann's Generation Um, in high def from Apple: After partying in New York City last night, John...
