Marvel Studios is in pre-production on the live-action superhero drama series "Wonder Man", co-starring Courteney Cox, following 'Simon Williams' (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), initially introduced as a super-villain imbued with 'ionic' energy, streaming in 2023 on Disney+
"...'Simon Williams' is the son of rich industrialist 'Sanford Williams', owner of 'Williams Innovations'. Simon inherits the munitions factory after his father's death, but the company's profits fall due to its biggest competitor 'Tony Stark' and his company 'Stark Industries'.
"On the advice of his brother 'Eric', Simon tries to embezzle funds from his company but is caught and incarcerated. Simon blames Stark for this and accepts the proposition of master villain 'Baron Heinrich Zemo' after the 'Enchantress' pays his bail, as a pawn is required to infiltrate the 'Avengers'.

One of the bigger missed opportunities within Marvel's Cinematic Universe might lie in its introduction of Riri Williams, aka Ironheart. Riri was folded into the Marvel Comics canon in 2016 as Iron Man's legacy counterpart. As Riri grew on the pages of the comics, she amassed quite the following, validating Black female comic lovers -- and aspiring Black women in Stem -- with each new adventure. She was a fascinating foil to Tony Stark's privilege and snark, and a lot of fans hoped to see their dynamic eventually play out on the big screen. But the MCU went a different way, with Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man mentoring an all-new Spider-Man (played by Tom Holland) before ultimately meeting his demise in "Avengers: Endgame."
By the time Riri was finally introduced in "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," Iron Man was long gone. His legacy still lives on in Riri — after all,...

Of all the professional wrestlers that pivoted to a career acting in Hollywood, none have a filmography as varied, celebrated, and high-profile as Dave Bautista. Whereas many of Bautista's former pro wrestler contemporaries have since leaned into conventional action and comedy roles, Bautista has broadened his range considerably. While Bautista has certainly played characters that reflect his physical stature, he has also taken on roles that play against type in a growing number of genres, from thrillers to hard science fiction.
More than just a breadth of genres, Bautista is working with some of the most acclaimed filmmakers in the industry today, including M. 2022 was full of action-packed hit movies like Top Gun: Maverick, Rrr, and Bullet Train. Despite being a Telugu-language film made for the Indian market, Rrr became one of the biggest surprise hits of the year in the US and has been winning big since its release. The movie has put the actors and director on the map, and two of its stars now want to be the next Iron Man.
‘Rrr’ has been breaking records since its release
Rrr is a fictional retelling of the friendship and lives of two real-life revolutionaries, Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju, in the 1920s. The movie takes on a What If? type of format exploring the undocumented period in the revolutionaries’ lives as they begin to fight for their country.
Rrr draws attention to the abuses and inequalities of colonial rule and follows the real-life Indian heroes teaming up against their British oppressors.

It might seem like only yesterday we were listening to Tems’ rendition of “No Woman, No Cry,” but just two months after Black Panther: Wakanda Forever roared its way to the top of the box office, Ryan Coogler’s superhero showstopper has landed on Disney+. As well as securing Letitia Wright’s Shuri as the new Black Panther, we had an Oscar-worthy turn from Angela Bassett and the introduction of Tenoch Huerta as Namor (dropping the Sub-Mariner suffix).
Doing what the MCU does best, it also queued a ton of potential projects. Alongside another war with the Talokan people in the mythical Black Panther 3, there was the tease of Phase 5’s Thunderbolts and a possible Midnight Angels spin-off. One arc (reactor) we know is directly tied to Wakanda Forever is Chinaka Hodge’s Ironheart. However, is the technological whizz-kid also setting up the return of the original MCU foe?

The time has finally come for DC Studios Co-Chairmen and CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran to reveal their plans for DC going forward. /Film writer Jenna Busch attended a press event where the pair unveiled a whole new slate of DC movies and TV shows for the coming years, including new Superman and Supergirl movies and a True Detective-style Green Lantern show. And while it's far from the hard reboot many long-suffering DC fans were hoping for, Gunn and Safran's plan for a "long-term interconnected story" will mark a major shift for DC Studios.
"Chapter 1" of the new DC will be known as "Gods and Monsters," and will kick off with the Gunn-penned "Superman: Legacy," currently set for a July 11th, 2025 release. In the meantime, Gunn and Safran will have to navigate their way through vestiges of the Snyderverse and former DC Films President Walter Hamada's lingering influence.

Four years after his climactic defeat, Josh Brolin's Thanos remains one of the best villains in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sure, the bar is often disappointingly low, but even when it comes to the best of the best, The Mad Titan who orchestrated the Infinity Saga is high on the list. From his towering stature and army of followers to his complex moral philosophy, he spent nearly a decade as a growing threat to Earth's mightiest defenders. Despite how hard Tony Stark prepared for an alien invasion, when Thanos finally touched down on Earth, it took two movies (and the trauma of The Blip) for them to scrape by with a win. And don't even get me started on the collateral damage.
It's also Brolin's performance that makes Thanos a next-level antagonist: this isn't villainy just for the sake of evil. He wholeheartedly believes that he can...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is brimming with stories of redemption, but Robert Downey Jr.'s behind-the-scenes journey might just be the greatest one of them all. I still remember the moment I found out Downey had been cast in the role of Tony Stark. As a comic fan, it seemed to me like the most pitch-perfect casting imaginable. There was no better actor for the role, but when "Iron Man" was released in 2008, he was anything but a sure bet. Despite being undeniably talented, there was a point when Downey was more infamous than famous.
Having spent much of the '90s and a bit of the early aughts mired in controversy due to his ongoing struggles with drug addiction, Downey was a persona non grata in Hollywood, one whose habits had made him uninsurable. The actor cleaned up sometime in 2003, but anyone who's battled addiction will tell you that...

With the Marvel Comics we know today being founded in 1939 (originally known as Timely Comics), there are decades of stories and characters ready to be adapted for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Navigating a Galactus-sized franchise like the MCU means we expected some characters would be lost to the Multiverse.
Whether it’s old favourites stopping by for a cameo or a brand-new addition being saved for another day, it’s more than the odd scene being left on the cutting room floor. Sometimes, whole characters are given the boot and banished to Gorr the God Butcher’s Shadow Realm. Saddle up because here are 12 characters who were once cut from the MCU.

The trailer for the new Ant-Man film, Quantumania, puts Paul Rudd at the heart of the new-look MCU. But does this vision have legs?
It was pretty obvious to every superhero fan that Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man, until his sad demise, sat at the centre of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Who brought Ultron into existence? Yes, the billionaire philanthropist with the zippy one-liners. Who invented time travel in order to defeat Thanos? That guy who loved shawarma, weapons of mass destruction and casual sexism (at least in his early outings).
Since Tony Stark’s death in Avengers: Endgame, the MCU has been crying out for a focal point. Doctor Strange looked like he might step up, but soon lost his position as sorcerer supreme to Wong and almost destroyed the entire universe while trying to help out Peter Parker. Thor still isn’t quite his old self after...

Don Cheadle has been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for 13 years now and finally, all of that time spent talking to floating tennis balls and acting in the presumably sweaty War Machine suit is about to pay off ... in about another year or so. Colonel James "Rhodey" Rhodes is on the verge of emerging from Tony Stark's shadow as the lead of his own movie. "Armor Wars" will finally give us the chance to dig into the life of the U.S. Air Force officer, as he navigates being a hero in the wake of his friend's heartbreaking sacrifice.
While the details of the story remain pretty vague, Cheadle did reveal what excites him about the project during an interview for the January 2023 issue of Total Film:
"I don't think we've ever really dug into him, and now it's an opportunity to really explore his emotional life, his interior life,...

When Marc Malkin of ‘Variety’ asked Ram Charan if he would like to be a Marvel superhero, the ‘Rrr’ hero responded at once: “Absolutely. Why not?”
And when he was asked about his favourite Marvel superhero, he said without thinking much: “Tony Stark.” He was referring to the character Robert Downey Jr plays in the Iron Man franchise.
“Or maybe Captain America, why not?” Ram Charan added as an afterthought. “We have some amazing superheroes in India too,” he pointed out. “How about you invite one of our heroes over here?”
Talking specifically about ‘Naatu Naatu’, he said: “My knees still wobble talking about it today. It was a beautiful torture and look where it has got us.”
Was the ‘Rrr’ director S.S. Rajamouli hard on them during the terrific action sequences? Rajamouli said: “I took care of them like babies. No one ever got hurt.” To this, Ram Chran...

After taking the world by storm last year, the epic Indian action movie "Rrr" is basically taking a victory lap by screening in select theaters for a number of special engagements that include Q&As with the people who brought it to life. This article contains major spoilers for "M3GAN."
After months of some genius viral marketing, "M3GAN" has proven to be yet another successful venture for Blumhouse. The caregiver AI turned sassy murderer is carving a name for herself in a world where Chucky currently holds the heavyweight title of cinema's memorable killer doll, and it's easy to see why. The acrobatic physicality of Amie Donald, coupled with the vocal performance of Jenna Davis, has proved to be a potent mix that brings cinema's newest slasher baddie to the screen with entertaining results. Not giving M3GAN her own franchise would be such a wasted opportunity. But given how the film ends, a sequel is all but inevitable.
Even though the film was whittled down from a considerably more violent screenplay, some of which was shot, "M3GAN" still manages to end things on a high note. After finally seeing the destructive impact of her emotional support doll,...

Don Cheadle had to block out the white noise when it came to joining the MCU.
The Oscar nominee was cast as the replacement for Terrence Howard’s character Lt. James Rhodes (aka War Machine) in the “Iron Man” sequel. Cheadle went on to appear in seven Marvel movies, plus the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” and “What If…?.”

For the first three seasons, Janet Hubert played “Aunt Viv” on The Fresh Prince of Bell-Air, dealing out wisdom to Will Smith’s Philadelphia transplant. But to actors who replace other actors, the term “Aunt Viv” might have negative connotations.
At least, that’s the impression viewers get when watching Don Cheadle‘s reaction during an interview with GQ. “It’s famously known online how you ‘Aunt Viv’d’ Terrance Howard for the role of Rhodey,” the interviewer observed, prompting a look of shock from Cheadle. “I ‘Aunt Viv’d’ him?” he asks with incredulity, before clarifying, “I did not move Terrance out of a role.” However, he stumbles when trying to explain exactly what happened. “That’s… they had decided they weren’t…...

An Avengers: Endgame deleted scene could prove that a popular theory about the villain Thanos (Josh Brolin) has been true all along.
The clip, which you can watch on streaming service Disney Plus, is an alternate version of a conversation between Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) featured in the film.
Swinton’s character can be seen telling Hulk that removing an Infinity Stone creates a new timeline. However, she then goes on to reveal something that was omitted from the film – that she’s already used the Time Stone to see beyond her very own death.
It’s here where she drops the huge revelation that Thanos’s destructive finger-snap, which wiped out half of all existence, didn’t actually kill a single person.
She explains that, rather than kill people, Thanos willed them out of existence, which is what made their eventual resurrection possible.

Since 1988, the Library of Congress has selected 25 films each year as new additions to the National Film Registry in order to be preserved for their historical, cultural, and aesthetic contributions to American culture. The United States National Film Preservation Board has included a wide selection of movies since its inception that range from classic films to newsreels to music videos to documentaries. There are even student films and home movies included among the collection.
This year, the selections highlight the diversity of filmmakers in America by including at least 15 projects directed or co-directed by filmmakers of color, women, or LGBTQ+ people. For example, home movies from jazz, blues, and swing pioneer Cab Calloway are included in the latest wave of inductees, along with an 1898 documentary about the Mardi Gras Carnival and the 1950 adaptation of "Cyrano de Bergerac," which propelled José Ferrer to become the first Latinx actor to win an Academy Award for Best Actor.

As everyone's still recovering from the mayhem-filled spectacle of Sony's newest "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" trailer, the ambitious sequel that hopes to recapture the lightning-in-a-bottle energy from the original "Into the Spider-Verse," one can't help but marvel at what both films (and counting) could potentially pull off in the years to come. Not only did the first film go a long way towards establishing the young Afro-Latino Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) as a Spider-Man in his own right, proving beyond a doubt that general audiences would accept someone other than Peter Parker in the title role, but the Oscar-winning feature even helped legitimize animation as a medium (not a genre!) to be taken seriously, something that has proven tricky for certain audiences. With so many accolades and accomplishments under its belt, is it even realistic to expect more from the sequel?
Incredibly enough, the early returns point to a resounding yes.

Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coogler received a standing ovation as he wrapped an emotional edition of BAFTA’s David Lean lecture series in London Monday.
The annual lecture is the centerpiece of BAFTA’s public program. Previous speakers include Martin Scorsese, Robert Altman, Paul Greengrass, David Lynch, and Spike Lee.
Coogler’s session was packed out with a mix of general cinephiles and industry professionals, including several members of London’s Identity School of Acting, best known for producing talents such as John Boyega and Coogler’s Black Panther star Letitia Wright.
Coogler opened the lecture by telling the audience that he felt “deeply unworthy” to be giving the Lean speech, which he said he accepted while “in a rush” to finish Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
“I feel like I’m standing in a place that maybe I shouldn’t be. It’s a feeling I’ve grown accustomed to over my life and career.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the biggest and most successful franchise in pop culture history. Fans and critics alike have delighted at what Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has pulled off, turning a popular film series into a sprawling saga spanning the galaxy, the time-space continuum, and now multiple dimensions. While it may be tempting to attribute the McU's triumph to the novelty of basing a franchise on such an expansive and interconnected universe, that's only part of what keeps audiences coming back for every new film and TV show. Filled with talented actors, engaging stories, humor, and breathtaking fight scenes, nearly every chapter in the MCU has been a crowd-pleaser.
However, as entertaining as the MCU is, it's not without its flaws. Because of the ever-growing nature of the overarching story, there are bound to be plot holes and narrative threads that fall by the wayside. Some of these...

Irish actor Kerry Condon has done a little bit of everything, but it might be her scene-stealing role in Martin McDonagh's "The Banshees of Inisherin" that finally makes her a household name. Condon's career kicked off at the age of 18 when she starred in the McDonagh play "The Lieutenant of Inishmore." That same year, she played Ophelia in "Hamlet" for the Royal Shakespeare Company, making her the youngest person to tackle the esteemed role with the company. On television, fans might know her as cranky criminal Mike Ehrmantraut's daughter Stacey on "Better Call Saul" or as Clara on "The Walking Dead," while Marvel fans would know her by voice only, as Tony Stark's AI companion, Friday. She's managed to show off her incredible skills in just about every arena, but her performance in McDonagh's latest is her finest yet.

When making a movie about a superhero, there are two approaches a filmmaker can take. One can either tell the story from the beginning, detailing all the complicated circumstances that led to the creation of a Superman, a Batman, or a Morbius. Or one can pick up in medias res, depicting a superhero as already well into their career, their costume chosen, their ethos set. There is, of course, a third option, and that's to tell the story of a superhero's death or retirement, but those stories are painfully rare.
Prior to 2008, superhero movies were less common, and their origin stories were only sometimes covered. Leslie Martinson's 1966 film "Batman" never bothered to explain why Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson did what they did other than to explain that they supported their local police. Richard Donner's 1978 film "Superman," in contrast, followed Kal-El from his birth on a distant planet,...

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" is introducing two new major characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Namor (Tenoch Huerta), who will bring mutants into the MCU, and Riri Williams a.k.a. Ironheart, played by Dominique Thorne, whose two film credits prior to this are "If Beale Street Could Talk" and "Judas and the Black Messiah."
While there are — even in a Hollywood saturated with superhero films — plenty of comic book characters like Namor who have been around for decades yet are still waiting to enter the live-action spotlight, Riri's path to MCU stardom has, like Thorne's, been comparatively shorter. It was only back in 2016 that Marvel Comics introduced the character, created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato, as a brilliant young M.I.T. student who built her own suit of Iron Man armor in her dorm room.

By and large, modern superhero cinema is unsurprisingly IP-driven. Marvel and DC superheroes come with built-in fan bases both recent and long-standing — ones comprised of multiple demographics — and appeal to families and solo viewers alike. As Robert Downey Jr.'s essential turn as Tony Stark proved, though, the casts of these films matter. As we previously covered, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has added Harrison Ford to its roster, and DC has endured its share of star turns and casting woes. In "Black Adam," the Warner Bros. tentpole has Dwayne Johnson, who promises to change the hierarchy of the DC Extended Universe forever and, potentially, the company's box-office fortunes (though our "Black Adam" review may disagree).
Johnson is one of the few actors who can open a non-superhero blockbuster. With "Black Adam," he is testing his mettle in modern Hollywood's most tried-and-true genre. Thrillingly, in "Black Adam" Johnson is surrounded by...

The most impressive Marvel Lego collection released to date is about to smash its way into stores, and it's probably not from a Marvel Cinematic Universe film you'd expect. The new Hulkbuster set will hit shelves in November, reminding us that even polarizing superhero movies like "Avengers: Age of Ultron" are worth revisiting in Lego form.
The Hulkbuster set also boasts the biggest price tag of any Marvel Lego collection to date, according to Gizmodo. The set comes with a hefty 549.99 price tag to go with its 4049 pieces. It sounds like a massive and massively rewarding project in the making, one that's meant to appeal to serious collectors, Lego enthusiasts, and Marvel fans alike. Both sizable and detailed, the completed product stands over 20.5 inches tall, 18.5 inches wide, and 9.5 inches deep.

Marvel Studios has been putting a lot of effort into getting their streaming series off the ground on Disney+. Fan reactions have been mixed on most series, but at the very least, you have to acknowledge that they have been giving fans a wide variety in the types of stories we’re getting. Falcon And The Winter Soldier is a government espionage story, Wandavision is a magical take on the perfect family TV sitcom, and Loki ended up being a fun time-traveling sci-fi story.
With She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, we are offered a legal comedy with a lot in common with such shows as Ally McBeal but with a superhero twist. Throughout this show, we delve deeper into a side of the MCU we haven’t seen before, and Marvel made sure to cram it full of references a lot of viewers might have missed. Let’s go over...

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law."
The fact that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a romance problem has long been documented. Across its twenty-some movies and many television series, this franchise has barely crafted a handful of compelling romances. But there's no need to reiterate all that here, because we have bigger fish to fry. Romantic relationships are just one piece of the passion puzzle: there's something else that's been sorely missing from this franchise and that's straight-up raunchy action. I'm not talking sweet, doe-eyed, blooming love — this is about steamy, passionate heat, something that is oddly nonexistent in this world of glistening abs and skintight suits.
Thankfully, "She-Hulk: Attorney At Law" has come to our rescue, bringing the heat as no other hero before her has dared. And with Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) on the prowl, Marvel has finally taken a step...

This article contains spoilers for episode 8 of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Captain America: Civil War

In Murdock’s defense of superhero costume designer Luke Jacobson (Griffin Matthews) during the penultimate episode of the season, he briefly mentions that the Sokovia Accords have been repealed.
Before Baron Zemo’s (Daniel Brühl) master plan is revealed in Captain America: Civil War, the Avengers are already divided on whether or not they should sign the Sokovia Accords. Cool Stuff: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Action Figure Provides Best Look Yet At Ironheart's Armor
Before she stars in her own Disney+ series, Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams will be introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever." Previously, we've gotten glimpses at this new character in the first trailer for the follow-up to Ryan Coogler's acclaimed 2018 film and the recently released Funko Pop sporting her Mark I armor. However, True Believers were able to see Williams' upgraded suit in action in the latest trailer for the upcoming movie, which seems like an amalgamation of the first and third iterations of her armor from the comics. The Hasbro Marvel Legends action figure just dropped, as well, and it offers the best look at the live-action version of Ironheart yet.
Shortly after the second preview for the sequel was released, online retailers such as Amazon and Entertainment Earth began to tout that the toy was in stock and available for purchase immediately.

Ever since three of its key members died or retired in Avengers: Endgame, MCU fans have all had the same question: who even are the Avengers anymore? MCU chief Kevin Feige has been pretty tight-lipped about when we’ll see the next lineup or who’s in consideration, but a mainstay of the comic book team will be making his way to live-action soon. Wonder Man is currently in production for Disney+, a show about ionic-powered superhero Simon Williams.
Largely unknown to non-comics readers, Wonder Man is one of Marvel’s most interesting characters; a guy with a convoluted history, even by superhero standards. There are many different types of stories that creators can tell with Wondie, but the recent news that Ben Kingsley will be reprising his role as Trevor Slattery gives us a pretty good idea about the type of show Wonder Man seeks to be.

The show was first revealed to be in the works back in June. It will focus on the Marvel character Simon Williams, also known as Wonder Man, reports Variety.

The show was first revealed to be in the works back in June. It will focus on the Marvel character Simon Williams, a.k.a. Wonder Man. In the comics, Williams is the son of a wealthy industrialist whose company falls on hard times due to competition from Tony Stark’s Stark Industries. Williams then accepts an offer from villain Baron Zemo that gives him ionic superpowers including super strength and durability. After fighting the Avengers several times, Wonder Man ultimately joined their ranks.

Marvel Studios’ return to San Diego Comic-Con was the showstopper fans have come to expect. After months of hand-wringing from Marvel devotees about their needing a clear map of where the post-Endgame phases were headed, and concerns that Marvel Studios didn’t have an overarching plan in motion (which, come on. Of course, it did), the scope was finally made clear. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige unveiled trailers, release dates for the previously announced Blade, Captain America: New World Order, Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts, and sneak peeks at upcoming projects. He also outlined Phase 5 and 6, culminating with Avengers: Secret Wars and the conclusion of what’s now been revealed as The Multiverse Saga.
Unsurprisingly, the Marvel Studios panel delivered a lot of information to digest at once and there’s still at least eight other projects left to announced in The Multiverse Saga,...

Everyone in the world of the MCU knows the legend of Tony Stark, the man who killed Thanos, or Thor the actual god, or even Captain America, the emblem of patriotism who helped the Avengers save the universe more than once. Sadly, not many know the story of Ant-Man, the hero who, with the help of a rat that set him free, figured out how the Avengers could travel back in time and get the Infinity Stones.
