The Tremors 4: The Legend Begins episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written by Cody Hamman, Narrated by Travis Hopson, Edited by Ric Solomon, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
The subterranean creatures known as Graboids are prehistoric life-forms. And the first Tremors movie wasn’t the story of humanity’s first encounter with them. In fact, there was a series of Graboid attacks just one hundred years earlier. Four movies into the Tremors franchise, we got a prequel that took us back to the Old West for a tale of cowboys and monsters. It’s Tremors 4: The Legend Begins (watch it Here) – which turned out to be the least successful installment in the series. We’re going to try to figure out why in this episode of What the F*ck Happened to This Horror Movie!

The 1990 creature feature Tremors is one of my all-time favorite movies – and in 1996, it received one of the best direct-to-video sequels ever made when Tremors II: Aftershocks (watch it Here) hit store shelves. Today, Arrow Video announced that they’re bringing Tremors II to 4K on November 27th, and they’re also packing the release with new special features! Copies can be pre-ordered through the Arrow Video website.
Directed by S.S. Wilson, who also wrote the screenplay with Brent Maddock, Tremors II: Aftershocks has the following synopsis: After spending all the reward money from his first encounter with the giant, man-eating worms, the Graboids, Earl Bassett agrees to hunt more deadly creatures at a Mexican oil refinery for $50,000 each. Knowing he can’t take on the monsters alone, Earl recruits Burt Gummer, another veteran of the Nevada incident, to provide the weapons. However, Graboids are evolving to attack above ground…...

Subterranean creatures become two-legged, gliding Ass Blasters in the second sequel to Tremors. Kevin Bacon isn’t there to fight them. Neither is Fred Ward. But Michael Gross is still around and ready to save the day… in a movie that didn’t have quite enough money or time to bring its monster action to the screen. Today we’re talking about Tremors 3: Back to Perfection (watch it Here). And we’re going to find out What the F*ck Happened to This Horror Movie!
Directed by Ron Underwood from a script he crafted with Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson, the 1990 film Tremors is one of the greatest creature features ever made.

We’re getting this week started with a new episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series, and with this one we’re digging into the story behind Tremors II: Aftershocks (watch it Here) – the first direct-to-video sequel to the 1990 creature feature classic Tremors. When Universal Pictures released the classic creature feature Tremors (watch it Here) back in 1990, they decided to market it with poster art that brings to mind the iconic poster for Universal’s 1975 release Jaws. But before they made that choice, they had hired famed artist Drew Struzan – whose work includes the posters for Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, and Star Wars films, among many others – come up with a couple poster ideas. Yesterday, Struzan took to social media to share a look at a couple of his unused Tremors poster concepts… and you can check them out in this embed:

A new episode of the Revisited video series has just arrived online, and in this one we’re looking back at one of my personal all-time favorite movies, the 1990 creature feature Tremors (watch it Here)! To find out what we had to say about Tremors, check out the video embedded above.
Directed by Ron Underwood from a screenplay by Brent Maddock and S. S. Wilson (who also share story credit with Underwood), Tremors has the following synopsis: Handymen Val McKee and Earl Bassett are tired of their dull lives in the small desert town of Perfection, Nevada. But just as the two try to skip town, they happen upon a series of mysterious deaths and a concerned seismologist studying unnatural readings below the ground. With the help of an eccentric couple, the group fights for survival against giant, worm-like monsters hungry for human flesh.

In the words of Kevin Bacon, "Funny-scary is a very difficult thing." The star of Ron Underwood's horror-comedy "Tremors" has spoken at length about the 1990 creature feature and his role as stubborn handyman Val McKee who, alongside Fred Ward's Earl Bassett, tries to escape the doldrums of Perfection, Nevada when giant prehistoric underground monsters interrupt their flight.
In the documentary "Tremors: Making Perfection," Bacon, Underwood, and the rest of the film's cast and crew go long on its journey from page to screen. It began as a simple concept from writers S. S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, who were collecting footage for a Navy safety video when they thought about what it would be like if something had them marooned on a rock. The story, then dubbed "Land Sharks," would be retitled "Beneath Perfection" before finally landing on "Tremors."

This 1990 monster romp still feels bright, smart & fresh, a mix of light comedy and old-fashioned scares. The entire show is one long battle against smelly burrowing beasts called ‘Graboids.’ Desert handymen Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward must work hard to avoid taking their place in the Graboid Food Chain. Ambitious it ain’t, but it delivers what monster fans want — gross-out thrills, excellent effects and solid laughs. Arrow’s 4K Ultra HD disc is as sharp as a tack, and a second Blu-ray disc contains an unprecedented volume of featurettes, interviews and production documentation.

Hello again, dear readers! We’re back for another look at this week’s horror and sci-fi home media releases, and there are quite a few titles headed home tomorrow. So, if you have any last-minute shopping you need to get done, there might be something listed here that could be helpful in that regard.
Probably the biggest release of this week is Arrow’s brand new 4K 2-Disc Limited Edition set celebrating one of the best monster movies ever, Tremors, and Warner is showing some love to The Curse of Frankenstein as well. In terms of recent horror, we have a ton of brilliant genre fare to pick from on Tuesday, including The Wolf of Snow Hollow, The Beach House, Don’t Look Back, and The Call, and Full Moon has resurrected Orgy of the Dead as well.

In this, the sixth film in the long-running Tremors franchise, Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) and his son Travis Welker (Jamie Kennedy) are called to a research facility in the frozen tundra of the Canadian Arctic. They find themselves up to their ears in Graboids and Ass-Blasters investigating a series of deadly giant-worm attacks. Burt begins to suspect that Graboids are secretly being weaponized, but before he can prove his theory, he is side-lined by Graboid venom. With just 48 hours to live, the only hope is to create an antidote from fresh venom – but to do that, someone will have to figure out how to milk a Graboid.

The 1990 cult classic monster movie Tremors has spawned four sequels (with another on the way) but are they any good?
This article contains spoilers for the assorted Tremors movies.
You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who hates Tremors. In fact, while I was watching these sequels I ran a quick poll online asking people to choose their favourite 90s monster movie and Tremors won in an absolute landslide – leaving even the much-beloved Gremlins 2 in the dust.
The original cost a rather humble $11 million to make and made $5 million profit at the box office. Not a huge amount, but its subsequent popularity on home release and TV means that, 26 years later, we’ve just received word that a sixth instalment has gone into production. It seems the Tremors love is still very much alive and kicking (or should that be ‘squirming’?).

With the release of Tremors 5: Bloodlines last week, we thought this would be a perfect time to speak with Jonathan Melville, author of the recent book, Seeking Perfection: The Unofficial Guide to Tremors, which takes a look back at the original film, the Tremors sequels, and the ill-fated television series.
What inspired you to celebrate the Tremors films in book form (beyond the fact that they’re awesome fun)?
Jonathan Melville: I remember watching Tremors on BBC One here in the UK in 1994 (I was 16) and immediately falling for the mix of comedy, horror, sci-fi, western and romance that I hadn’t seen in any other film.
From then on I kept stumbling across the sequels; I rented Tremors 2 from a VHS store while on holiday in Canada and the others on video and DVD when they came out—and each time enjoyed the way the franchise evolved. There...

The year is 1989 and Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson finally have their screenplay. The two men – established purveyors of family-friendly science-fiction with 1986’s Short Circuit and 1987’s *batteries not included – have been kicking around a script based on Wilson’s idea of land sharks; during one desert hike, he suddenly became obsessed with the idea that he couldn’t leave the rock he stood on, and jotted that idea down for future development. A few years go by and Maddock and Wilson have put everything on paper and are determined to produce the film themselves. In a brief introduction to the shooting script for Tremors, Maddock wrote about his goals for Tremors: Our crafty little plan was to fashion a low- enough-budget idea that a studio would actually allow us to produce and, even less likely to happen, allow Ron Underwood, our old filmmaking partner from our educational film days, to...

Return of the Living Dead, the Basket Case Trilogy… Second Sight now continue their current (and fantastic) trend of re-releasing 80s classics on Blu-ray with two family favourites – Short Circuit and Flight of the Navigator – that are, in my humble opinion, essential purchases for 80s movie fans. Dimension Films has been tried to remake "Short Circuit" since 2008. Then in August, the studio hired "Alvin and the Chipmunks" director Tim Hill to direct from a script by Dan Milano ("Robot Chicken"), who did a re-write of the SS Wilson and Brent Maddock script. Now comes word that Dimension is once again not happy with the story of the remake and has brought on Matt Lieberman to do another re-write. Lieberman is responsible for the direct-to-video sequel "Dr. Dolittle: Tail to the Chief," a fourth installment in the franchise. And regarding the plan for "Short Circuit," producer David Foster previously said: "We're bringing Number 5 into the 21st Century and taking advantage of the improvements in robotics that are so massive that robots are now performing heart surgeries in hospitals." The planned remake of Short Circuit looks to have been given fresh impetus, as a new director is found for the project...
This story slipped under our radar at the end of last week, but we like to think it’s because we’ve built in some kind of automatic firewall to block out news of cherished 80s movies being remade. No such luck, as it happens, as we’ve now learned that long-planned remake of Short Circuit looks to be pressing ahead, after its stay in development hell.
The writers of the original film, SS Wilson and Brent Maddock, had been engaged to pen the script for the new version of the film. Subsequently, Dan Milano came in for some rewrite work, and Steve Carr (Paul Blart: Mall Cop) had signed up to direct.
However, Deadline is now reporting that Carr is no longer attached to the project, and Tim Hill is.

Back in 2008, Dimension Films acquired the remake rights to "Short Circuit" and hired original "Short Circuit" writers SS Wilson and Brent Maddock to pen the script. Then Dan Milano ("Robot Chicken") was brought on to do a re-write. "We're bringing Number 5 into the 21st Century and taking advantage of the improvements in robotics that are so massive that robots are now performing heart surgeries in hospitals," said producer David Foster, adding that the robot's look won't change. And then finally in 2009, "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" director Steve Carr was signed to helm. Things apparently didn't work out, because Deadline is now reporting that Tim Hill (Hop, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties) has replaced him. The original 1986 "Short Circuit" film revolves around an experimental robot manufactured to be a weapon until a lightning strike fills it with intelligence. It runs away and befriends a fractured family,...

A reboot of the 80s cult classic Short Circuit has been floating around for quite sometime, but could never lock on to a director to helm the project. Well, Dimension Films has ended their three-year search and has settled for Hop director Tim Hill. Considering that the previous director was Paul Blart: Mall Cop’s Steve Carr, one cannot consider the newly hired Hill an upgrade. Deadline was the first to jump on the news that the studio hired Hill.
Hill was also brought on board to pen a new script. Originally Dan Milano did rewrites on the script that was drafted by the original Short Circuit directors S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock. Back then he script was being called “a robot reboot that brings the iconic Johnny 5 into the 21st century.”

In 2008 Dimension Films picked up the rights to remake [1] the mid-'80s robot film Short Circuit, but as is often the case with projects like these, actually getting the picture to a position that is ready to shoot is taking some time. Now there's a new director: Tim Hill, who will also oversee the creation of a new script. Deadline [2] has the news on the hire, noting that Tim Hill is the director of this year's Easter Bunny picture Hop, as well as of Alvin and the Chipmunks. If that sounds dodgy, consider that the last director [3] on the project was Steve Carr, who made Paul Blart: Mall Cop, as well as Next Friday, Dr. Doolittle 2 and Daddy Day Care. If nothing else, the sequence of those two hires makes the studio's intent pretty clear: the goal is something very mainstream, and very easily digestible. Original Short Circuit creators S.

They’re sometimes furry, sometimes scary, and always angry. Here’s our list of cinema’s 10 most underrated monsters…
King Kong. Godzilla. The terrifying creature out of Alien. They’re all household names. They’re the superstars of the monster world, hogging the limelight while their less charismatic brethren languish in obscurity.
To redress the balance a little, we’ve compiled a list of a few cinematic monsters that deserve more attention. And given that movie monsters are always being shot, stabbed and set on fire by square jawed heroes, it’s fair to say that even the rubberiest, most shambling ones deserve a little bit of love, so if there are any you think we’ve forgotten, feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments.

Kitschy 1990 horror movie/Kevin Bacon vehicle Tremors feels incredibly dated twenty years on. Watching it for the first time in well over a decade, courtesy of its release on Blu-ray, the Ron Underwood directed creature feature doesn’t quite live up to my childhood memories. The giant worm creatures no longer seem scary enough to have once made me genuinely afraid to walk across my bedroom floor (let alone on sand). And yet the film also feels strangely relevant, perhaps disturbingly so, in the time of the Tea Party movement and Sarah Palin.
Tremors is tongue in cheek in tone and features a group of self-consciously silly characterisations: none more memorable than Michael Gross’ Burt Gummer, a gun-toting survivalist who went to become a key part of the franchise in its three straight-to-video sequels and ill-fated 2003 TV series. In Burt Gummer we have a valiant champion of the second amendment...

Ron Underwood's Tremors remains as charming, as amusing, and as "safely" creepy as it was back in 1990. The director, working from a script by his pals Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson, was able to tap into that indefinable "afternoon matinee" charm that so many filmmakers covet, but so few pull of as well. When you discuss the topic of "completely fun cable flicks," Tremors will come up. If you're talking about PG-13 (or family friendly) horror films, same thing. When you contemplate the very few films that are able to balance comedy and horror in admirably equal measure, yep, Tremors again. Since its release in January of 1990 (when it grossed an underwhelming $17 million), Tremors has been earning loyal...

Apparently, there was a Tremors series that was released on Syfy in 2003. There is an interesting story here as the series was aired out of order. Episode 6 followed episode one and episode 2 was released following episode 7 (Wiki). How is that for confusion? The series was released on iTunes in 2007 and now Paramount Home Entertainment is releasing the series, March 9th. The show, which includes thirteen episodes, and DVD details are below (a Tremors 4 is on the way).

Variety reports that the 80's TV series T.J. Hooker, which starred William Shatner as a police detective who returns to his old job as a patrol sergeant after his partner is killed, is getting a big-screen adaptation.
The series, which ran for five seasons on two networks as a serious crime drama, will be an action comedy on the big screen and concentrate on Hooker and his relationship with his father (Shatner, perhaps?).
Chuck Russell (The Scorpion King) is in talks to direct, while writing partners Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson (Wild Wild West, Tremors) will be in charge of the script. No actors have been cast yet.
With Hooker racing to theaters, is Hardcastle and McCormick far behind? It may even help Magnum P.I. get off the ground.

If it worked for Star Trek, why not for T.J. Hooker? The man that created the hour-long cop show that was a staple on ABC's line-up in the early 1980s wants to bring the L.A. beat street cop to the big screen, but where the original Hooker was an action-drama the movie is being envisioned as an action-comedy. "T.J. Hooker" will get the movie makeover as an action comedy!
The hit TV show from the 80s gets its movie adaptation from producers David Foster, Ryan Heppe, and series creator Rick Husky.
Chuck Russell, the guy who gave us "The Scorpion King" and "The Mask" is negotiating to direct.
The film version will focus on the relationship between our hero, T.J., and his dad. But I don't know how the writing team of Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson will make the characters and the plot interesting. The writing duo gave us "Wild Wild West" (I know, not a good sign) and many "Tremors" films (yeah, definitely not a good sign!).
No word yet on the cast, or whether William Shatner, the original Sgt. Thomas J. 'T.J.' Hooker, will make a cameo. What about series originals Adrian Zmed and Heather Locklear?

No, were not referring to any forms of prostitution in here but the early 1980’s series T.J. Hooker. Starring William Shatner and Heather Locklear, the popular cop drama is getting itself revamped on the big screen. Director Chuck Russell (The Scorpion King) is being tracked down to take part of the adaptation, joining the creator of the series Rick Husky who will be producing.

Joined along with David Foster and Ryan Heppe producing, this quartet of people have been attached to the hip all the way to Tremors. No word yet on who is to be casted in any of the roles.

When we rant about remakes and reboots, it's easy to hide in hyperbole. It seems like there are a lot of them, but maybe we're just really sensitive to Hollywood's bouts with unoriginality. But then Peter wrote the piece "Which Remake/Reboot Are You Looking Forward to the Least," and when my eyes hit his list of those announced in only one month, it hit me: No, we're not exaggerating. There's a lot of frakking reboots and remakes out there. And now we've got one more on the way.

According to Variety, the latest tv show to get the big screen treatment will be none other than the William Shatner mid-eighties police drama T.J. Hooker. No, that’s not a typo, I said T.J. Hooker. Stay with this story for the frightening clue that the Tj Hooker movie is actually going to star William Shatner. It's worth it for the shudder factor. Variety have named Chuck Russell as the director out in the lead for the Tj Hooker gig. The screenplay is being written by Brent Maddock and SS Wilson, who previously took up pens for Tremors, Short Circuit and Ghost Dad. While the 80s TV series was a straight up cop action drama, his movie is being pegged as a comedy, perhaps inevitably. The plot details available from Variety are vague but perhaps very telling, revealing that the story "focuses on the relationship between the title character and his father". While some television shows from the past are being resurrected and updated for today's TV viewers, others are headed for the big screen. The latest one to make the cut: "T.J. Hooker," the 1980s crime drama series produced by Aaron Spelling.
Variety reports the concept of the series will be repackaged into an action comedy, with Chuck Russell in talks to direct the project. Russell's credits include "The Mask" and "Eraser."
The original series starred William Shatner as Sgt. T.J. Hooker and focused on his adventures with his partner Vince Romano (Adrian Zmed). Heather Locklear co-starred in most of the show's 90 episodes.
Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson ("Wild Wild West") will write the script for the big-screen version, which apparently focuses on the relationship between Hooker and his dad. No actors are in talks yet.
No word yet on when you can plan on getting 'hooked' in theaters.
