AmfAR Global Campaign Chair Sharon Stone will be in Cannes on Friday to host the org’s glitzy annual benefit gala, which supports AIDS research. Stone has been a key figure for amfAR since the 1990s. She has said that her commitment to the fight against AIDS stems from the death of her friend and acting coach Roy London. This year’s event will be held outdoors at Villa Eilenroc and will feature various entertainments, dinner and an auction. Alicia Keys is due to perform and Cannes jury president Spike Lee will be a special guest. A host of stars are expected to attend, though this year’s event will be limited in capacity due to the pandemic.

Johnathon Schaech was 22 when acclaimed director Franco Zeffirelli cast him as the lead in his movie Sparrow. It was 1992, and the newcomer was thrilled to work with the Italian filmmaker, famed for films such as The Champ, La Traviata and Romeo and Juliet, for which he earned a 1969 Oscar nod for best director. But Schaech says Zeffirelli harassed and sexually abused him during the shoot, a trauma he’s kept secret for 25 years. Hopeful his story can help make positive change, the Ray Donovan actor, now 48, who rose to fame in That Thing You Do!, shared this first-person account with People’s Elizabeth Leonard.

Brad Pitt has fond memories of his pre-fame job as a stripper's assistant - because the seedy post landed him a great acting teacher.
The hunk was working as an extra in Hollywood when he picked up work as a driver and minder to Tinseltown's hottest exotic dancers-for-hire.
Appearing on TV show Inside the Actors Studio, which aired in America on Friday, Pitt recalled, "You had to go to the girl's apartment, pick her up and then you'd have to drive her to the party and you would then be responsible for playing the music.
"Then you had to catch the clothes so the guys didn't steal them as they came off and then you had to try to collect the money at the end and get out of there alive."
Pitt revealed that one stripper he worked with was taking an acting class with Roy London and she invited the wannabe star to join her. London, who also worked with Geena Davis and Sharon Stone, agreed to take on the budding actor.

The cinephile's gaze has long appreciated the smaller, modest beauties of old films. (Not even "authored" films: I mean the beauties of the chaff as well as the wheat.) Yet the disposable, omnipresent, generic films of our more recent past are slowly seeping into historical perspective as well. What if a person were given a copy of The American Cinema and a discard box of VHS tapes, and simply told to work things out from there? What could we find by looking at these films and according their significant elements their tiny, absent fanfare?
Diary of a Hitman (Roy London, 1991)
Like a cross between Boiling Point (James B. Harris, 1990) and What Happened Was... (Tom Noonan, 1994), Diary of a Hitman constructs a scenario of generic neo-noir and talky, stagey, emotionally voluble interpersonal exchanges. The film is strange but not quirky, humble yet probing. Few movies have seemed to be such appropriate platforms for Whitaker's whispery,...

Better known for playing charming romantic leads, Dermot Mulroney has recently turned his attention to a darker, deeper role. In the thought-provoking "Inhale," he portrays a man facing a moral dilemma that will mean life or death for his critically ill child. It is, pardon the pun, breathtakingly poignant work in a film that at first appears to be a thriller.Mulroney began his film career with "Sunset" in 1988 and also starred that year in "Young Guns." Years later, with "My Best Friend's Wedding," as the eponymous friend, he began to be known to the general public. Soon notable roles followed—in "Lovely and Amazing," "About Schmidt," and "Zodiac," and on "Friends" as Gavin, Rachel's replacement at work. Mulroney served as associate producer on the documentary "God Grew Tired of Us," and he is making his directorial debut with this year's "Love, Wedding, Marriage." With "Inhale," he is taking on...

[As the Interview grows, we’re expanding our talks with actors, directors, and writers to include discussions with prominent figures in other parts of the business. One of our first is here with Candace Silvers, who teaches a highly influential series of acting workshops.]
Growing up the daughter of the comedy acting legend Phil Silvers, Candace Silvers was likely able to learn a tremendous amount about the craft simply by osmosis. Silvers did become an actress herself and studied under the famed Roy London, but in the past two decades, she has also become one of the most sought-after acting teachers in the business. Her classes focus on learning and identifying the causes and effects of human behavior, and have proven popular as life instruction, as well. Silvers’ client include not only the Producers Guild and the Screen Actors Guild, but also the Remax Group. She has received endorsements from acting luminaries such as Richard Dreyfuss, and her clients include writer Eileen Myers (“Big Love”), actor Josh Radnor (“How I Met Your Mother”), and musical artist Jessica Sutta (The Pussycat Dolls).
