Earlier today, we took a look back the Wes Craven-directed 2005 thriller Red Eye… so we figured, why not follow that up by taking a look at a remake of a Craven horror film that was released the year after Red Eye reached theatres? The movie we’re taking about is the 2006 version of The Hills Have Eyes (watch it Here), a remake of Craven’s 1977 classic. It’s time for this one to be revisited, and you can hear all about it in the embed above.
While the original film was written and directed by Craven, Alexandre Aja directed the remake from a screenplay he wrote with Grégory Levasseur. Here’s the synopsis: Bob Carter and his wife Ethel, along with five other members of the family, are heading for San Diego with their camper van. An accident strands them in the desert and while two of the men go for help,...

The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering Maniac (2012) was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Travis Hopson, Edited by Jaime Vasquez, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
More and more remakes. So many remakes. Not all are good, some would even say that most remakes are trash. However, some are good, some are great even. This leads us to this movie, the remake of Maniac (watch it Here) released to the general public in 2013. While some hated it and with reason, others loved it, also with reason. The film is one of those that made changes that worked for the story and helped bring it to the new audience, who then turned around and saw the original. Well, some of them did. However, this remake didn’t exactly hit it big at the box office and it still seems to be finding its audience.

For a lot of people, Alexandre Aja‘s High Tension (Haute Tension) was their first taste of the New French Extremity. And since 2003, this French slasher has been a source of frustration for horror buffs; they feel betrayed after witnessing one of the most shocking plot twists to come out of the genre. All the while, there are those who are fascinated by the film’s audacity and multifaceted story. Wherever someone might fall on the spectrum, though, everyone can at least agree that High Tension is impossible to forget.
The conventional slasher film never quite caught on in France like it did in the United States. There are exceptions here and there, of course, but as a whole, this subgenre of horror is more of a local flavor than a universal one. However, by the time High Tension had come out, American slashers themselves were victims of postmodern overkill,...

P2 has the following synopsis: It’s Christmas Eve. The last employee to leave her office, ambitious corporate climber Angela arrives in the deserted parking garage only to discover her car won’t start. In this special holiday edition of The Silver Lining, we’ll be covering Franck Khalfoun’s overlooked urban horror movie, P2.
From gothic castles to isolated suburbs, horror stories are usually set far away from bustling urban centers. While there are occasional examples of urban horror flicks, such as Candyman and Maniac Cop, writers usually tend to avoid heavily populated areas because the abundance of people means that it’s harder to believe our main characters are actually in danger.
However, any fan of True Crime will tell you that being around other people doesn’t necessarily guarantee your safety, as many (if not most) horrific deaths do in fact happen in large cities, with onlookers and law enforcement often being unable -or unwilling- to intervene when something terrible happens. It’s real stories like these that inspired 2007’s P2, an underrated urban thriller that dives into the very plausible...

In this edition of The Silver Lining, we’ll be covering Grégory Levasseur’s Egyptology-based Found Footage flick, The Pyramid.
Acclaimed director Alexandre Aja first rose to notoriety as a member of the early 2000s French Extremity movement after shocking audiences with the intensely gory Haute Tension (A.K.A. High Tension/Switchblade Romance). While this peculiar little slasher flick eventually led Aja to an international career as a celebrated director and producer, part of his success can be attributed to his friend and frequent collaborator, Grégory Levasseur.
From Haute Tension to The Hills Have Eyes and even Piranha 3D, Aja has always been backed up by Levasseur, who co-wrote and produced most of his projects. That’s why it stands to reason that the director would eventually pull a few strings and scramble together a budget for Levasseur to direct his first feature film, which would come in the...

I’ve been a sucker for a good tomb raiding adventure film ever since I first fell in love with the Indiana Jones movies as a kid. The same goes for absolutely anything to do with ancient Egypt or the pyramids, so naturally I was excited about a chance to check out The Pyramid.
Written by Daniel Meersand and Nick Simon, The Pyramid is directed by Gregory Levasseur (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D). It makes use of the found footage storytelling device to depict the adventures of father and daughter archaeologists Miles Holden (Denis O’Hare) and Nora Holden (Ashley Hinshaw) as they explore a mysterious three-sided Giza pyramid (most of the pyramids of Giza have four sides) with their team during the Egyptian protests of 2013. At first, they rely on camera-equipped, remote-controlled robot “Shorty” to show them what’s what inside the pyramid.

Late last year, moviegoers followed Dr. Holden and his collegues into the ancient corridors of a cursed tomb in Grégory Levasseur's The Pyramid, now available to watch on Digital HD from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, with a Blu-ray and DVD release slated for May 5th. With viewers now able to explore the creepy confines of The Pyramid from the comfort of their couches, we caught up with Levasseur to discuss intertwining horror with Ancient Egyptian culture, revisiting The Hills Have Eyes shooting location, filming in tight spaces, and much more.
Thank you very much for taking the time to talk with us, Grégory. Ancient Egyptian culture is interwoven throughout The Pyramid and plays a big role in the onscreen scares. Were you interested in that era of history prior to directing the film?

Good day, horror fans. The scariest thing about this week might just be the complete lack of big horror releases in theaters. Arguably the biggest debut is Gregory Levasseur.s Egypt-set supernatural horror The Pyramid, but it wasn.t even given that wide of a berth. (It isn.t playing where I live, which may or may not be inside of a haunted pyramid.) There.s also Erik Skjoldbjærg.s Norwegian thriller Pioneer, but that.s got an even smaller release window. On the VOD front, December 5th saw the release of the thriller Poker Night, which stars Ron Perlman, Titus Welliver, Giancarlo Esposito and Ron Eldard. (Go watch The Babadook if you haven.t yet.) In smaller news, Uwe Boll has taken to Indiegogo to try and fund the presumably violent sequel Rampage 3: No Mercy. (Why?) The highly anticipated sci-fi thriller Z for Zachariah, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and...

When a new pyramid is discovered, a team of archeologists venture in on the sly. What could go wrong? The script, for one
A group of archaeologists unearth ancient cliches in this horror film from Grégory Levasseur. A new, three-sided pyramid has been discovered, but when Cairo shuts down the dig, lithe Nora (Ashley Hinshaw) and her stuffy old dad (Denis O’Hare, the only watchable actor) team up with a couple of other victims to venture into the pyramid on the sly. What could go wrong? After a truly terrible start, featuring some not-so-faintly racist portrayals of Egyptians as shouty mobs and bumbling servants who must be told, the film picks up pace. Levasseur understands the claustrophobia of being locked inside a stuffy pyramid with collapsing floors and sand traps. Unfortunately for him, Indiana Jones turns out to be incompatible with Alien, and the bad acting and atrocious script don’t help.

We’ve got another found-footage horror film being released called The Pyramid, and this trailer makes it look like it’s going to be a lot of fun. The last found-footage horror movie I saw was As Above, So Below and I really liked it. I can enjoy a decent found-footage flick, but I think these kinds of films would be so much better if they were shot in the traditional movie style. The Pyramid seems like a really fun concept, and it comes from director Gregory Levasseur and produced by Alexandre Aja (Piranha 3D, The Hills Have Eyes, Horns). Here’s the synopsis:

A long time collaborator with Alexandre Aja - for whom he wrote Haute Tension, The Hills Have Eyes and Mirrors while also producing Piranha 3D - Gregory Levasseur steps into the director's chair for his feature debut The Pyramid, with Aja returning the favor and serving in a producer role. And what have they cooked up? If the trailer is anything to go by the duo is gunning for the sort of subterranean claustrophobia that drove Neil Marshall's The Descent with the action transposed to the inside of an ancient Egyptian pyramid. Yes, there's something still alive in there and it may not have been the best idea to crack it open.Take a look at the trailer below....

In honor of King Tut Day - which celebrates the discovery of King Tutankhamen's tomb - Fox has sent along to us this exclusive first look at some alternate poster art for The Pyramid, a film that presents a discovery - albeit a terrifying one - all its own.

While it may have been easy to dismiss The Pyramid as yet another found footage horror movie, I’m finding myself intrigued by the notion that the movie seems to have a lot more to offer. The movie comes from first time director Grégory Levasseur, the guy who wrote High Tension and the underrated 2006 remake of The Hills Have Eyes. The featurette we have today puts The Pyramid’s producer Alexandre Aja (who directed those scripts) in the hot seat. First up the...

(Cbr) Mummy movies used to be all the rage back in the day, with Universal Pictures and Hammer Films each having its own franchise (the former resurrected its property in 1999, and plans to do so again). Director Grégory Levasseur’s found-footage horror fillm The Pyramid marks a new chapter in the subgenre, as a group of archaeologists explores a newly unearthed pyramid that houses a murderous monster. It’s the directorial debut of Levasseur, who wrote the remakes of The Hills Have Eyes and Maniac, as well as P2 and High Tension. Here’s the film’s synopsis: The ancient wonders of the world have long cursed explorers who’ve dared to uncover their secrets. But a team of U.S. archaeologists gets more than they bargained for when they discover a lost pyramid unlike any other in the Egyptian desert. As they unlock the horrific secrets buried within, they...

At first I thought Grégory Levasseur’s “The Pyramid” was another Found Footage horror movie. I really, really do not like Found Footage horror movies. I appreciate that they’re cheap to make and an easy way for horror film directors to get in “the biz,” but still, they’re almost always 90% boring and 10% mildly interesting at the very end. But I was wrong about “The Pyramid.” It’s apparently just really bad shaky cam filmmaking. Anyways, take a gander at the first trailer for the movie. Which just goes to show you, when nosy Americans show up on the scene, people always die. Stop being so damn nosy, Americans! The ancient wonders of the world have long cursed explorers who’ve dared to uncover their secrets. But a team of U.S. archaeologists gets more than they bargained for when they discover a lost pyramid unlike any other in the Egyptian desert.

Archaeologists gibber in fear in the first trailer and poster for the found-footage horror, The Pyramid...
This week sees the UK release of As Above, So Below - the found-footage horror which takes place in ancient catacombs beneath the streets of Paris. Well, here's another verite-style genre film that looks a bit like a grown-up reunion for The Goonies.
Directed by Gregory Levasseur, the co-writer of the exceedingly violent film High Tension (known as Switchblade Romance in some areas), The Pyramid sees a group of archaeologists discover and enter an ancient Egyptian tomb. There, they're terrorised by a series of traps, unexpected falls and half-seen things scurrying about in the shadows.

The prospect of The Pyramid doesn't sound so good when you read it. Produced by Alexandre Aja and directed by first timer Grégory Levasseur, it's the story of a group of archaeologists who uncover a new pyramid that is home to an ancient human hunting entity.
