Mark Hamill, Lynda Carter, George Takei and Sheryl Lee Ralph are among those in Hollywood who have taken to social media to share their reaction to Donald Trump’s guilty verdict in his New York criminal hush money trial.
A jury found the former president, who could face four years in prison or probation, guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records. Throughout the five weeks of testimony, the jury heard from a former tabloid publisher, a Hollywood fixer, Trump’s former lawyer and a porn star.
Trump also became the first former president to be convicted of felony crimes. Sentencing is set for July 11.
Ralph, star on Abbott Elementary, quickly took to X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday, writing, “Former President Donald Trump has been found guilty of all 34 counts he faced. A cheer has erupted from Collect Pond Park.”

“The gatekeepers are gone,” Colin Jost told a roomful of journalists at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 27, before pivoting to the punchline: “Did you know that 90 percent of people now get their news exclusively from social media? And that must be true because I saw it in a random guy’s TikTok.”
For those (ever fewer) media gatekeepers who have major reach, trust is currency. And there’s still a halo effect for those TV stars with broadest viewership — i.e., network TV hosts — particularly evening and morning show anchors for NBC and ABC, a new THR/Morning Consult poll shows. The survey, conducted May 4-5 among a sample of 2,239 U.S. adults, asked opinions about 40-plus major TV news stars, as well as surveyed trends about America’s fractured media diet during a presidential campaign year.

Ross Matthews wasn’t three words into his opening monologue at the 35th annual GLAAD Awards in New York City Saturday evening when a protester stood up from the audience to shout, “GLAAD is complicit in genocide.” The lone pro-Palestine advocate, blanketed by a wide-eyed room who let out a few jeers — “Who are you, you weirdo?” one donor shouted — was slowly, if not ceremoniously escorted from the room before she gave a final jab: “And so are all of you.”
“Thank you for your free speech. I’m so glad you have freedom,” Matthews, the evening’s host, said from the stage in an awkward attempt to recognize the protester. “Well, that was uncomfy for all of us, but we have to fight for everyone’s rights. Thank you for my opener,” he moved on, back on his feet.

Poppy Harlow is exiting CNN after a morning show failure and sixteen years with the network. She had experienced a shakeup in 2022 and things just continued to go downhill. Now, she has made the decision to leave. Keep reading for all of the details.
Poppy Harlow Exiting CNN After Morning Show Failure
After sixteen years with CNN, Poppy Harlow is leaving and a lot has to do with a big shakeup that occurred in 2022. She had spent over five years co-hosting CNN Newsroom with Jim Sciutto and they made a great duo. Then, she was moved to an early morning slot alongside Don Lemon and Kaitlan Collins for CNN This Morning. Lemon had come from anchoring his own primetime show whereas Collins was a correspondent. Unfortunately, the match did not light and Lemon was starting to get into trouble. He then made an inappropriate comment about former presidential candidate, Nikki Haley.

When did Columbia become Kanye State? Bill Maher asked that question at the top of Friday’s Real Time on HBO, setting the tone for a show that focused on the national campus unrest and what’s behind it.
Maher attempted to answer that himself in his “New Rules” editorial, saying in a message to protesters blocking traffic in the name of a cause: “No one likes you.”
He contended that protesters fail to realize that they are not bringing people around to their point of view by making them late for work or from picking up a child from day care.
“You can glue your hands to the street, since your hands don’t have to do any work today,” Maher said, and claimed that for many social justice warriors, “It’s more about the warrioring than the causes.”

CNN veteran Poppy Harlow has announced her exit from the cable news network.

Poppy Harlow and CNN are parting ways after the news outlet put the veteran correspondent through a whirlwind era as one of the co-anchors of an ill-conceived morning program that was ultimately scrapped.
CNN executives “have been wonderful and have given me the space to make this decision,” Harlow said in a memo to colleagues Friday. “I am very grateful to them.”
The decision to leave was Harlow’s, according to people familiar with the matter. CNN executives had come up with a handful of ideas for a new role following the network’s decision to cancel the A.M. program she had been anchoring, most recently with Phil Mattingly. Mattingly has since been named a national correspondent. Harlow felt she wanted to take a break and survey other options that might be available to her, according to one of the people familiar with the situation.
She could probably use some time off.

Poppy Harlow, who has been with CNN since 2008, is departing the network. Harlow announced her decision in a memo to colleagues.
She was offered a new role following the cancellation of CNN This Morning, but instead decided to leave, the network confirmed.
Harlow was co-host, along with Don Lemon and Kaitlan Collins, of CNN’s rebranded morning show, CNN This Morning, when it launched in November, 2022.
Lemon was ousted from the network the following April, and Collins left for her primetime show the following June. Phil Mattingly joined as co-host, but the show itself was dropped earlier this year in a retool of the network morning schedule. There still is a CNN This Morning with anchor Kasie Hunt, but it has an earlier start time of 5 a.m.
On X/Twitter, Harlow wrote of her tenure, “Loved every moment.” In her memo, Harlow wrote, “I have been inspired by you...

When it comes to polarizing guests, Real Time With Bill Maher is set to hit the jackpot this week.
Late Wednesday, HBO announced that independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr will be Maher’s lead guest Friday, alongside former CNN anchor Don Lemon.
Kennedy has long been seen as a potential spoiler in the November election. Recent polls have him capturing anywhere from 2-16% of the electorate, although whether he draws more support away from Trump or Biden is matter of some debate.
An ex-democrat whose father was slain while running for president himself in 1968, Kennedy is arguably best known for his controversial embrace of a number of conspiracy theories.
Several of Kennedy’s own siblings have publicly denounced his run for the presidency, saying last fall “Bobby might share the same name as our father, but he does not share the same vision, values or judgment.”

Matt Lauer, the former morning show host who was fired from NBC after allegations of sexual assault, wants to stage a comeback in the media industry.
Lauer, 66, is still deeply upset about how he was portrayed in the incident and perceives himself as a victim. While he spent most of his time on Long Island, Lauer wants to regain relevance in the media landscape. Lauer reportedly believes sufficient time has passed and deserves the opportunity to return to the media space.
Lauer’s fall from grace occurred in November 2017, when a female colleague accused him of inappropriate behavior amidst the larger #MeToo movement involving numerous high-profile men. Journalist Ronan Farrow further detailed the allegations in his book Catch and Kill, which Lauer vehemently denies.
Lauer’s public image has been severely tarnished, with headlines consistently labeling him “disgraced.” The situation has taken a toll on Lauer, making appearing publicly with his girlfriend difficult.

Tuesday was not a good day for Ronna McDaniel — or, is it Ronna Romney McDaniel again, as she now admits the 2020 election was not stolen? She went from a high-profile gig on NBC to no gig and no agent, as CAA also dropped her.
It was also a bad day for NBC News Group chairman Cesar Conde, who found it necessary to “personally apologize to our team members who felt we let them down.” Conde didn’t exactly fall on his sword by himself; he mentioned in his letter to staff that this was “a collective recommendation by some members of our leadership team.” But he acknowledged that the buck stopped with him.

On Monday, a federal judge dismissed Elon Musk‘s lawsuit against researchers who studied hate speech on the social media platform X owned by Musk.
Musk sued the Center for Countering Digital Hate for violating X’s terms of service for their research of hate speech on the platform, citing their gathering of data. Musk also claimed that the Ccdh’s report repelled advertisers away from X over brand safety concerns.
Judge Charles Breyer, who dismissed Musk’s case, wrote a 52-page order explaining his reason. The order claims that Musk’s lawsuit was not brought out of security concern for X, but out of anger against the Ccdh.
“Sometimes it is unclear what is driving a litigation,” Breyer wrote. “Other times, a complaint is so unabashedly and vociferously about one thing that there can be no mistaking that purpose. This case represents the latter circumstance. This case is about...

Don Lemon, a former CNN host, announced that he is no longer partnered with the social media platform X. The end of their partnership came after Lemon interviewed X’s owner, billionaire Elon Musk.
Lemon claimed Musk was “apparently so upset” after the interview that Musk terminated their partnership.
On Monday, the interview still aired on The Don Lemon Show.
Lemon announced his departure from X with a video to the platform: “Hi, everyone. Elon Musk is mad at me.”
Lemon said that the situation will not change any aspect of his show “except for [his] relationship with Elon and X.” Lemon also said the interview was respectful and covered a broad range of topics, including Musk’s SpaceX company.
It also touched on Musk’s drug use and hate speech on X, two topics Musk is not eager to discuss.

Days after Don Lemon said that Elon Musk canceled his partnership with X hours after conducting an interview with the tech mogul, the former CNN anchor on Monday dropped the first episode of The Don Lemon Show on YouTube and podcast streaming platforms, featuring a contentious interview with Musk.
Throughout their conversation, Lemon brought up questions related to Musk’s drug use, his affiliations with Donald Trump, advertisers pulling ads off X, hate speech on the app and other topics that the South African businessman appeared to deem troublesome.
Ten minutes into the interview, following a discussion about Musk’s political leanings, Lemon noted that the X owner recently met with Trump in Florida and asked what they spoke about. “I was at a breakfast at a friend’s place and Donald Trump came by—that’s it,” Musk said. Elon Musk told Don Lemon on his new YouTube series “The Don Lemon Show” that he has no intentions of financially supporting Donald Trump.
In a one-on-one interview with the X (formerly Twitter) owner, Lemon questioned Musk about a wide array of topics, including his Tesla business, the way misinformation is spread on the social media platform and his breakfast outing with the former president.
“Speaking of Maga, you recently met with Donald Trump in Florida, what did you guys talk about?” Lemon questioned on Monday’s episode.
“I was at a breakfast at a friend’s place, and Donald Trump came by. That’s it’s,” Musk replied, stating that his intention of going to Florida wasn’t in any way related to meeting with Trump. The tech giant added that he was “fine” with the idea of Trump stopping by for breakfast.

Elon Musk is opening up about ketamine use.
The 52-year-old X owner spoke to his prescription ketamine use to treat depressive episodes in an interview with former CNN star Don Lemon.
During the conversation, he claimed that he takes a “small amount once every other week” — sometimes less frequently — to treat what he called “chemical tides” that can cause his depression.
Keep reading to find out more…
“Ketamine is helpful for getting one out of a negative frame of mind,” he said.
Don then asked if ketamine could “get in the way” of his government contracts and his standing on Wall Street. Elon said no, adding: “From the standpoint of Wall Street, what matters is execution. Are you building value for investors?”
“From an investor standpoint, he said, “if there is something I’m taking, I should keep taking it,” he continued.

The debut episode of The Don Lemon Show was posted on X/Twitter and other platforms this morning, featuring the former CNN anchor’s contentious interview with Elon Musk.
Their sit down, running just over an hour, led to Musk canceling a deal he had with Lemon to post some exclusive content on X. Lemon is still free to post on X, but it won’t be part of a paid agreement.
During the interview, Lemon asked Musk about his posts amplifying the “great replacement theory,” as well as the billionaire’s ketamine use.
Musk said that he used the drug to relieve what he said was a “negative chemical state,” including depression, and that he was doing it under a doctor’s care.
“Ketamine is helpful for getting someone out of a negative frame of mind,” Musk said.
“Do you feel like you ever abuse it?” Lemon asked.
“I don’t think so.

Don Lemon’s interview with Elon Musk for The Don Lemon Show, which marked the beginning and end of his brief deal to start broadcasting on X (formerly Twitter), dropped Monday morning and is pretty much exactly what you’d expect: a lot of ducking, dodging, hypotheticals, gotchas, and reverse gotchas.
During the hour-long interview, Lemon asked Musk about everything from his drug use and censorship to the Great Replacement Theory and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Lemon even managed to extract a definition for whatever the hell the “woke mind virus” is.

Don Lemon’s agent has denied allegations that he submitted a list of extravagant demands to X (formerly Twitter) owner Elon Musk before his planned show was canceled on the social media platform.
Claims published in the New York Post on Friday alleged that Lemon had sent a “wish list” to Musk as they negotiated details of Lemon’s show to be hosted on X. The demands allegedly included an $8 million salary in addition to a $5 million upfront payment, a Tesla cybertruck, equity stake in X and the right to approve any changes in X policy as it related to news content.
Lemon’s agent, UTA’s Jay Sures, denied the claims, telling The Post: “This is absolute, complete utter nonsense without an iota of truth to it.” (The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to UTA for additional comment.)

Examining the Dynamics of Free Speech and Business Decisions Recently, Don Lemon found himself at the center of a free speech debate after his show’s abrupt cancellation on X platform. Despite Elon Musk’s earlier endorsement for Lemon to join X, proclaiming his ‘full support’ and a vision for a ‘digital town square for all,’ the show was discontinued. Lemon, who has been with CNN since 2006, expressed his expectation for an inclusive platform where even challenging questions could be asked. However, his experience suggested a different reality. Lemon’s response to the cancellation was marked with a promise to reveal more

The Elon Musk-Don Lemon war continued today, as both sides tweaked each other’s tail over their aborted programming deal.
Lemon had the first at-bat, sending out a dig on X.
“Every time @elonmusk tweets, a subscriber gets his wings. Tune in Monday.” Lemon will continue on the X platform, even though his remuneration will come from clicks and sponsorships rather than a salary and perks.
“That was followed by a Musk retort: “Don “Veruca Salt” and a lemon image.”
The “Veruca Salt” insult likens Lemon to the Willy Wonka character of the same name, an over-indulged and manipulative young girl who shows no gratitude.
That slap stems from earlier reports indicating Lemon had a lengthy wish list while negotiating for his one-and-done show on the X platform. They allegedly included a free Tesla Cybertruck, a $5 million upfront payment on top of an $8 million salary, an equity stake in the multibillion-dollar company,...

Update, with full video: Former CNN anchor and now ex-x talk host Don Lemon released yet another segment of his sit-down interview with X owner Elon Musk today, with the clip showing Lemon pressing Musk about the latter’s claim that the airline industry has lower standards for female and minority pilots than for white male pilots.
Appearing on ABC’s The View today to tout his upcoming, now-YouTube series The Don Lemon Show, Lemon brought along the new interview clip that features a persistent Lemon questioning a seemingly flustered Musk about the pilot issue.
See a portion of The View segment below.
Lemon points out that, after a door-sized panel blew off of an Alaska Airlines/Boeing jet mid-flight, the female pilot landed the plane safely and without further incident.
Musk has repeatedly tweeted and amplified others’ tweets that “Dei” – Diversity, Equity & Inclusion – is being prioritized by the airline industry over safety.

“I’m not paying his legal bills in any way, shape or form,” a somewhat irritated-seeming Elon Musk told Don Lemon of his meeting with Donald Trump.
The clip was one of a handful Lemon shared with his former-coworker Erin Burnett on CNN this afternoon. In it, Musk denies giving Trump money and says their recently-reported meeting only happened by chance.
“I was at a breakfast at a friend’s place and Donald Trump came by,” Musk told Lemon, before adding” That’s it,” as if to close the book on the subject.
But Lemon wasn’t done.
“What did you talk about?” he asked.
A clearly flustered Musk said, “Let’s just say he did most of the talking.”
Lemon then asked Musk if Trump asked him for money.
“He didn’t,” replied the billionaire.

Don Lemon won’t be bringing a show to Elon Musk’s X platform, after all.
Lemon on Wednesday said that Musk “has canceled the partnership I had with X … he informed me of his decision hours after an interview I conducted with him on Friday.”
The interview with Musk is slated to be the debut episode of The Don Lemon Show, which was supposed to debut on X (formerly known as Twitter) and YouTube. Lemon says the interview will run as planned on YouTube, and that future episodes will be released there.
Lemon said that “there were no restrictions” in the interview, and that “we had a good conversation. Clearly he felt differently.”
Replying to a comment on X, Musk said that they canceled the show because “his approach was basically just ‘CNN, but on social media’, which doesn’t work, as evidenced by the fact that CNN is dying.

CNN has paid Don Lemon $24.5 million in order to settle his separation deal nearly 10 months after he was fired for his sexist remarks about Nikki Haley.

Don Lemon has reportedly received a big payout from CNN after his ousting from the news network last year. According to The Wrap, the former news anchor and CNN reached a separation deal worth approximately $24.5 million. The total is said to be the amount of money Lemon would have received had his final contract ended in three and half years as originally planned. Lemon, who served as an anchor at CNN for 17 years, was let go on April 24, 2023. At the time, Lemon tweeted he was “stunned” that management didn’t have “the decency to tell me directly.” “At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network. CNN is turning some of the lights out on its efforts to produce morning news.
The network is revamping its entire A.M. schedule as the Warner Bros. Discovery-based cable news outlet continues to grapple with poor ratings.
Poppy Harlow and Phil Mattingly, who co-anchor “CNN This Morning,” will leave the line-up, while Kasie Hunt’s early-morning program will take on an extra hour. Her show, “Early Start,” will run from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m., and will take on the “CNN This Morning” title. CNN will then move “CNN News Central,” anchored by John Berman, Kate Bolduan and Sara Sidner, to a 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. slot, with Jim Acosta and Pamela Brown taking over new hours at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Depending on whom you ask, Don Lemon is planting his feet firmly in media’s next frontier. Or its last one.
The former CNN star anchor is the latest in a parade of onetime TV-news personnel to dip their toes into the entrepreneurial waters of digital and social media. He announced in early January that he would launch “The Don Lemon Show” on X, part of a bid to build a broader media outlet. “Don is extremely passionate about launching his own media company,” says Oren Rosenbaum, partner and head of audio at UTA, which represented Lemon in his deal with the social-media giant. “His first priority is the show, and as that becomes more and more successful, he will build a business around that and become a platform for other voices.”
Lemon isn’t alone. Tucker Carlson, the former Fox News opinion host, is using X for similar goals.

Digital media executive Alex MacCallum, who left CNN after a major streaming product she helped build was scuttled, has returned to the news outlet to help build some more.
McCallum, who exited CNN in June of 2022 when she was interim chief digital officer, has been named executive vice president of digital products and services, and will be charged with developing new concepts to attract digital audiences — a key business objective as more of CNN’s cable subscribers find new broadband, social and mobile platforms where they can gain information and knowledge.
She had been working as chief revenue officer at The Washington Post. MacCallum will start at CNN on March 4.
MacCallum was deeply involved in the launch of CNN+, a subscription-based streaming service meant to appeal to CNN fans interested in such topics as travel, entertainment and culture. The service offered some extensions of CNN franchises like the now-cancelled media-analysis...
