Silent Night, the latest film from the legendary John Woo, reached theatres on December 1st (you can read our review at This Link) – and while Woo was doing the press rounds for his new movie, The Hollywood Reporter took the opportunity to ask him about a couple revivals of his older works: the remake of his 1989 film The Killer, which Woo is directing himself, and the sequel to his 1997 film Face/Off, which is set to be directed by Godzilla vs. Kong‘s Adam Wingard.
Asked why he has decided to remake his own film with the new take on The Killer (which went into production this past summer), Woo said, “Well, the project was in the works for many years, but it was hard to find a director to direct it. So when I came back [to the States], we got support from Universal, and they asked me to do it. So I...

For years, director John Woo has been developing a remake of his awesome 1989 film The Killer (buy it Here). At one point, Lupita Nyong’o was signed on to play the assassin role that had been played by Chow Yun-Fat in the original film. That version of the project fell apart when Nyong’o had to step away due to scheduling issues – but Woo just dusted himself off and kept working on the remake. Last summer, it was announced that Lupin‘s Omar Sy had signed on to star in the film, and now Deadline reports that Sy is being joined in the cast by Nathalie Emmanuel of Game of Thrones and the Fast and Furious franchise.
Details on the roles Sy and Emmanuel will be playing in the remake of The Killer have not been revealed.

After “Operation Chromite” directed by John H. Lee, “Battle of Jangsari – Forgotten Heroes” is the second entry in a planned trilogy depicting the events of the Korean War, specifically the coordinated attack of South Korean forces against the army of the North. In “The Battle of Jangsari” directors Kwak Kyung-taek and Kim Tae-hoon tell a semi-fictionalized account of a mission meant as a diversion distracting the North Korean army from the actual attack which took place in Incheon. Besides showing the fate as well as the stories of the young cadets, most of which were students, their movie also aims to shed some light on the role of war correspondents such as the character played by Us-American actress Megan Fox, a role which was inspired by two actual correspondents who reported on the battle and the fate of the young soldiers.

“A Moment to Remember” is undoubtedly something that should be remembered. John H. Lee gave us with this film one of the best romantic stories translated to the big screen. A tremendously emotional movie as well directed as it is performed, with a fabulous script co-written by the director himself and by Yeong-ha Kim. The story gets the viewer excited to what is being narrated, until reaching a final act where it is impossible to back away the tears.

Handsomely crafted and executed with skillful action sequences, Operation Chromite tells the parallel stories of General Douglas MacArthur’s titular mission, designed to cut off North Korea’s supply line to the South and the formation of South Korean’s X-Ray intelligence unit. Condensing what could have made for a mini-series into a 110 minutes, the film hints at what could have been: further relationships between the X-Ray unit and their estranged families torn apart by an enemy within. Emotional beats, although present (and occasionally on-the-nose), largely take a backseat to the strategy of winning and some longing for a unified home.

"I am Douglas MacArthur – I win wars." Cj Entertainment has debuted an official Us trailer for the epic Korean war film Operation Chromite, telling the story of the Battle of Inchon during the Korean War in the 1950s. Liam Neeson stars as Douglas MacArthur, the Us military General who lead the campaign to land in the city of Inchon and drive the invading North Korean forces out of South Korea. The full cast includes Lee Jung-jae, Jin Se-yun and Lee Beom-su. We featured a trailer for this earlier in the month, but it was a Korean trailer and showed a bit too much of the big battle scenes. This trailer is edited together much better and actually makes me want to see this film, even if there is only a tiny amount of Neeson in it. Here's the new official Us trailer (+ poster) for John H. Liam Neeson's latest role involves him taking time out from punching east European thugs in the face. Instead, the actor takes on the very real life part of General Douglas MacArthur in John H. Lee's South Korean feature "Operation Chromite".
The project details the Battle of Incheon which took place a few months into the Korean war. U.N. forces landed in the South Korean harbor city to drive out the North Koreans, and is recognized as a turning point for U.N.-backed South Korea against the communist North.
The film will focus on eight Korean war heroes involved in the story which was shot late last year and is slated to open in South Korea later this year. No U.S. distributor has yet been set.

John Woo’s first film(s) in several years, The Crossing, failed to make much of any impact when either part hit China between December of last year and this past July. Whether or not the non-existent international notices have played some role in his latest career decisions, it could nevertheless be said that they recall the artist international audiences came to love decades ago – and rather explicitly, in one (potential) case. According to Screen Daily, his next outing, Manhunt, “should recall the hard-boiled action of the director’s earlier years” by adapting Juko Nishimura‘s novel about a cop attempting to prove himself innocent of the rape and murder others have accused him of.
That project was announced in March, so perhaps it’s old news to the Woo faithful. The prospect of it, supposing he’s still up to snuff, remains as appealing as ever. What’s been...

For some time, almost a decade in fact, there's been talk of a remake of John Woo's 1989 assassin-themed action classic "The Killer". Korean-American Director John H. Lee had been linked to a previous version of the remake with Jung Woo-sung taking on the lead role.
Now though, while attending the Tokyo International Film Festival, Woo revealed to Screen Daily that "The Killer" remake will be his next project once he finishes up "Manhunt," an adaptation of the Japanese novel "Kimi Yo Fundo No Kawa No Watare" by Juko Nishimura.
"I have never left [Hollywood]. I still enjoy working with Hollywood. I still have a couple of projects developing in Hollywood. So after Manhunt, I probably will go back to Hollywood to make another action thriller. I'm going to make The Killer in an American version."
Woo added that the story was completely different when Lee was onboard the project.

Though any early signs of progress appeared to be snuffed out, celebrated Hong Kong filmmaker John Woo still has one eye set on remaking his classic 1989 assassin film The Killer.
That’s according to the man himself, who recently revealed that he’s positioned “an American version” of the hardboiled actioner as his next project following the release of the Japan-set adaptation Manhunt. Per Screen Daily, Woo revealed that:
“I have never left [Hollywood]. I still enjoy working with Hollywood. I still have a couple of projects developing in Hollywood. So after Manhunt, I probably will go back to Hollywood to make another action thriller. I’m going to make The Killer in an American version.”
Long before the modern retelling was left languishing in development, South Korean director John H. Lee was in line to helm the remake, though soon moved on when there was no tangible sign of progress.

One project that has been kicked around for years has been remake of John Woo's "The Killer," produced by the filmmaker himself. South Korean helmer John H. Lee was once attached to direct but has since moved on, while John Travolta tossed his name in the ring to reteam with his "Face/Off" and "Broken Arrow" director on a redo. But not much has been heard about the movie in years, but Woo reveals he still has it on his plate. Following this two-part epic "The Crossing," the director is gearing up to helm the Japan-set "Manhunt," which is based on the novel by Juko Nishimura, and was already made into a film in 1976. And according to Woo, "The Killer" will follow. "... after 'Manhunt,' I probably will go back to Hollywood to make another action thriller. I’m going to make 'The Killer' in an American version,...

Star of the Taken franchise, Liam Neeson, could be about to sign on to portray another man with a very particular skill-set – this time as U.S. Army General Douglas MacArthur, in the upcoming movie, Operation Chromite. Set in 1950 during the Korean War, the film will centre on a group of Korean soldiers participating in MacArthur’s planned military operation, which represented a significant turning point in the conflict.
The Korean War was fought from 1950-1953, though the consequences of the clash are still playing out today. The United Nations stepped in with military force when North Korea invaded South Korea in 1950, and General MacArthur was tasked with leading the United Nations Command in the country, in addition to the job he was already doing – overseeing the occupation of Japan. The five-star General planned the amphibious attack – which would become known as the Battle Of Incheon, but was codenamed Operation...

Liam Neeson is looking to take a break from actual fighting to play a famous military type in South Korean war film Operation Chromite.Neeson is in talks to star as World War II hero and five-star general Douglas MacArthur, who led the United Nations forces during part of the Korean War. The film’s focus, however, will be the 1950 Battle of Incheon, a big turning point in the war between North and South Korea, with Un forces launching a surprise attack against the North. The war, which spanned three years in the 1950s, ended with a stalemate that persists to this day.

Hey, if you needed someone to go undercover in South Korea, I guess one of the popular members of the boy band Big Bang is probably a pretty good choice. Well, not really, now that I think about it. Fortunately for Choi Seung-hyun’s character in Hong-soo Park’s “Commitment”, Myung-hoon is just a high school student. Which, I suppose, makes his infiltration kinda easier. Yeah, that makes way more sense. Anyhoo. Take a gander at the trailer for “Commitment”, including a poster and some images. Choi was also in John H. Lee’s “71: Into the Fire”, which I liked, even though it was a tad overblown. Whatever happened to Lee’s “The Killer” remake, anyway? Am I the only one still waiting for that movie? Probably… After his father’s botched espionage mission, North Korean Myung-hoon and his young sister Hye-in are sent to a labor prison camp.

“The Killer”, a remake of the 1989 John Woo Hong Kong shoot-a-thon of the same name, has been gestating in Hollywood for what seems like an eternity now. As recently as last year, South Korean director John H. Lee was said to be directing the remake, which would star South Korean actor Jung Woo-Sung (“Reign of Assassins”) in the title role of a contract killer who develops a guilty conscience after inadvertently blinding a singer during one of his hits. Woo himself would have produced. But, well, that was a year ago, and the remake hasn’t gotten any new legs. Until now, perhaps. According to ScreenDaily, Travolta is quoted as saying he’s “entertaining the possibility of doing” the remake, which is apparently still set to be directed by Lee from a script by Josh Campbell. And because John Travolta knows how much you crazy kids love having fake things...
