The Asylum — the independent film and TV studio known for its Sharknado franchise and zombie series Z Nation — celebrated its 25th anniversary with a bash on the Santa Monica Pier on Wednesday night.
But instead of helping blow out the candles, revelers were forced to deal with blown fuses as the Pier suffered a power outage for close to 15 minutes. When The Hollywood Reporter arrived on the scene at 9:30 p.m., the entire Pier was pitch black while hundreds of guests remained in place at the event, which took over Pacific Park, the oceanside amusement park.
Guests were still allowed to check-in to the event as security suggested the outage would be temporary. And they were right. Shortly before 9:40 p.m., the lights came back on and guests like Bai Ling, Kristanna Loken, Geoff Meed, Cindy Busby, Carlos Ramirez, Terry Woodberry,...

The production companies and executive producers behind Z Nation have been placed on the WGA’s Strike/Unfair List for allegedly failing to pay more than $5.1 million in residuals, pension and health contributions, and interest owed to the writers of the former series.
The zombie-apocalypse drama aired for five seasons on Syfy and now is streaming on Netflix.
The WGA says Z Nation’s executive producers David Rimawi, David Michael Latt, Paul Bales and Steve Graham and its production entities – The Global Asylum, Go2 Digital Media and Go2 Z 3 LLC, Go2 Z 4 LLC and Go2 Z 5 LLC – have failed to honor an arbitrator’s decision from October in which the companies and Graham were ordered to pay $4,832,748 in unpaid residuals and pension and health contributions, plus interest. “Seven months later,” the guild said, “the writers have still not been paid, and interest continues to accrue, which is why more than $5.1 million is now owed.

Thursday is D-Day, the 75th anniversary of the day when Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy, France, to fight the Nazis in World War II. To commemorate the memory of those lost there, Cinedigm is releasing a feature film with a handful of actors who know a thing or two about fighting.
“D-Day” stars Mma fighters Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture (Couture is also a former U.S. Army Sergeant) alongside Weston Cage Coppola (Nicolas Cage’s son) and Jesse Kove in their action-heavy take on the Battle of Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944.
“These beaches are vital to winning this war. Thousands of lives depend on it,” Liddell says in the trailer.

Refresh for updates… Carol Burnett and Vicki Lawrence are remembering their friend and The Carol Burnett Show co-star Tim Conway today. “I’m heartbroken,” Burnett said in a statement. “He was one in a million, not only as a brilliant comedian but as a loving human being. I cherish the times we had together both on the screen and off. He’ll be in my heart forever.”
Lawrence posted her remembrance on Instagram: “Hysterical, crazy, bold, fearless, humble, kind, adorable…all synonyms for Tim Conway. I am so lucky to ever have shared a stage with him. Harvey and Tim are together again. The angels are laughing out loud tonight.”
Conway joined the cast of The Carol Burnett Show in 1975 but had already been making frequent – and fan favorite – guest appearances on the variety sketch show for eight seasons. He won Emmy Awards in 1973, 1977 and 1978.

The Z Nation season 5 finale will also be the end of the series as the long-running zombie comedy has been canceled at Syfy.
It turns out that the season 5 finale of Z Nation is appropriately titled "The End of Everything" since Syfy has officially canceled the series just after its penultimate episode aired on the network. Some may have thought of the show as a kind of undead creature itself, having lasted longer than most similarly rated series, but the zombie comedy has always been a low-cost production for Syfy with a small but dedicated fanbase which often touted its lighter take on the survival tale made popular by AMC's The Walking Dead.

With the two-episode season 4 finale of Z Nation airing tonight, fans don't have to wait to see if the living dead series will return, as it's officially been announced that the post-apocalyptic show has been renewed for a fifth season by Syfy.
The news of the Z Nation renewal was officially announced by executive producer David Michael Latt on Twitter and on the show's official Facebook page.

Donald Trump‘s first six months in office have been far from smooth sailing – and that’s without any interference from a terrifying, shark-spitting storm.
Long before he became the real commander in chief, Trump nearly took on a fictional version of the gig for 2015 film Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
After two successful installments of the ridiculous – yet popular – SyFy franchise, producers approached former Alaska governor and vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin to play the president in the film series’ third iteration, the outlet reported.

The Simpsons aren't alone! Sharknado 3 almost "predicted" Donald Trump's presidency too. The Hollywood Reporter reported Wednesday that he was offered the role of the U.S. president in the 2015 film Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!. The outlet said the producers had hoped to cast Sarah Palin in the role but that negotiations with her fell through, after which cast member Ian Ziering suggested Trump, after having starred on his show The Celebrity Apprentice. The Hollywood Reporter said an offer was made and Trump accepted. "The Donald said yes," David Latt, co-founder of production company The Asylum, told the outlet. "He was thrilled to be...

2017-08-02T08:52:14-07:00Trump Was Going to Play the President in 'Sharknado'
In January 2015, two years before he was sworn in as president, Donald Trump was set to step into the same role in a very different capacity: He had signed on to play the president in 2015's Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!
Producers' first choice to play the leader of the free world in the Washington, D.C.-set disaster film was Sarah Palin, but negotiations with the former Alaska governor and vice presidential nominee had fallen through. That's when Ian Ziering, the gung-ho star of the schlocky Syfy franchise, had the inspiration to capitalize on the special relationship he'd developed with Trump while taping Celebrity Apprentice (Ziering made it as far as the penultimate task). His reality TV boss would make a good commander in chief, he reasoned. An offer went out.

According to Rolling Stone, members of the Backstreet Boys and 'NSync will unite for a low-budget futuristic horror film, called "Dead 7," which is written by Nick Carter. Carter will also star in the movie, alongside Howie Dorough, Aj McLean and Joey Fatone. David Latt, the producer of Syfy's "Sharknado" franchise, will produce "Dead 7." "It's a zombie Western futuristic horror movie," explained Carter. "My character is still being worked out right now, but I'm a good guy that's going to help save the day. There's a wish list of people that I want. I want it to be musically based. I might reach out to Jordan [Knight] from the New Kids on the Block." No word if former 'NSync member Justin Timberlake will appear in the movie. But it's probably pretty obvious that he won't.

Forget yesterday's pre-Emmy Award party, Tara Reid attended last night's (August 21) true primetime event - the Sharknado 2: The Second One movie premiere.
The 38-year-old actress, who reprises her role as April Wexler for the Sharknado sequel, arrived in a plunging neon pink crop top and matching high-waisted skirt for the Asylum & Fathom Events screening at the Regal cinema.
She was joined by co-star and estranged on-screen husband Ian Ziering, as well as producers David Garber, David Latt and David Rimawi.
Sharknado 2 made its SyFy debut on July 30, and proved a smash hit in the ratings with approximately 3.90m viewers and a 1.3 Nielsen ratings score.

If you’re hoping for a Sharknado 2 chainsaw scene to rival the grand finale of the original film, you’re going to have to help pay for it.
The Asylum — the studio behind the gloriously cheesy Syfy hit Sharknado and its upcoming sequel, Sharknado 2: The Second One — is asking fans to raise $50,000 via IndieGoGo to film a “bonus scene” that they promise will involve “sharks, chainsaws, and chainsaws being used in the vicinity of sharks.”

The production team behind "Sharknado 2: The Second One" needs your help. The Asylum has partnered with Indiegogo to raise funds for a scene in the film that will only be made if the fans pay for it. In other words, they're holding part of their own movie hostage unless we fork over $50,000. Although shooting is already underway in New York City on the sequel to last summer's surprise social media smash "Sharknado," the producers say they want to allow fans the chance to take part in the sequel by funding a special scene. A video on the film's Indiegogo page (see below) features producer David Latt promising fans "a really cool feeling" among other exclusive goodies if they donate. "On 'Sharknado,' you were the ones to make it the phenomenon that it was, but only after it was shot. This time we want you to be part of making the movie,...

This is how your cheapo monster movie sausage gets made:
1. First, there’s the calm before the sharks. Actors and extras take their places. Someone calls quiet on the set. Everyone is silent, still but hyper-aware, their muscles coiled like those of a Great White about to strike. Or something.
2. Suddenly, a crew member bellows that sound is rolling, then yells out, “Action!”
3. Chaos. Grown men and women are shrieking in terror. Crowds are surging toward all available exits. Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath jerks his head violently in every direction until finally making a dramatic dive onto the ground.

Cable channel Syfy has revealed the name of the Sharknado sequel.
The title was chosen after the network asked Twitter users to pitch ideas. The winner was selected from over 5,000 submissions, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The film will be called Sharknado 2: The Second One.
Producer David Latt recently denied that Tara Reid will be dropped from the upcoming film, saying the cast had not been decided.
"There is no script for Sharknado 2 until I read it then i will make a decision but everyone that is saying i got cut that is not true #liars (sic)," Reid wrote on Twitter.
Latt added that the possibilities for the next storyline were endless, saying: "We talked the storyline through, and there are no restrictions.
"So, it could be the family that goes over, it could be a prequel before Ian [Ziering]'s family was involved in it. It could be ten years in the future.

Never fear, Sharknado/decade-old American Pie fans: Tara Reid hasn’t been thrown overboard just yet.
There was a TMZ report over the weekend that claimed Reid would not be asked back for the buzzy Sharknado sequel, but Asylum executive David Latt, which produced the Twitter-friendly television movie alongside Syfy, tells EW that couldn’t be further from the truth, and he has no idea where the report came from.
Stressing that Reid was great on set, he emphasized that everything was on the table right now with respect to casting for the yet-untitled New York-set sequel, and Reid certainly hasn’t been fired.
