Before I get started, I wanted to say I hope you enjoyed or are continuing to enjoy every Holiday you may have or are celebrating. I had a merry Christmas myself despite some people simply wishing me a “happy holidays!” I don’t know how I got through it either. And since this is my last column of 2016, a preemptive happy new year to you all as well.
Now that we got that out of the way, these last few days or so have been rough for science fiction, comic book, and music fans. I still wince when I recall how one of my rock gods cursed at me when I made the mistake of calling him directly for a quote on a story I was working on — back when I should not have been writing stories about anyone. Greg Lake, who died Wednesday of cancer at age 69, had a distinctive temper that was a thin protective veneer shielding this sensitive man from the world. As one third of progressive rock super-trio Emerson, Lake and Palmer, his signature baritone was a bridge between the listener and what was to become the progressive rock...

Greg is the second member from the '70s band to die in 2016 -- founding member and keyboardist Keith Emerson died back in March. Elp burst onto the scene in 1970 at the Isle of Wight Festival ... where Jimi Hendrix and The Who also famously headlined. The...

Jennifer Metcalfe and Greg Lake ''enjoy'' each other's company. The 'Hollyoaks' actress admitted she is happy again after being pictured with the 'Geordie Shore' star, following the end of her two-year relationship with professional skater Sylvain Longchambon on Christmas Day (25.12.12) when he revealed his feelings for Samia Ghadie. Although she wasn't drawn into speculation about their current status, Jennifer did admit she was ''enjoying life''. All nerds have their favorite Weird Al Yankovic songs, from "Eat It" to "Yoda". But I've always had a thing for the man's Christmas tunes, which tend to be among his darkest work, focusing as they do on mass murder in the form of a killing spree ("The Night Santa Went Crazy") or just a good old-fashioned armageddon ("Christmas at Ground Zero"). Give both of these classics a listen after the jump. "The Night Santa Went Crazy" is my favorite of Weird Al's Christmas tunes, with its insane take on Soul Asylum's "Black Gold". The reference to Freddy Krueger wins it major brownie points from horror fans, and the homage to Greg Lake's "I Believe in Father...

The Sun today reports that the police are investigating “brawls” that feature on hit reality show Geordie Shore – which airs on MTV – and are considering bringing charges for alleged assaults and “public disorder” offences.
The paper states that police are studying footage filmed for episodes that haven’t as yet aired, which include scenes similar to those that have already aired.
For instance, on the first episode of the show, James Tindale, 20, was seen fighting with a man who “made a rude gesture” behind his back at a nightclub.
His co-star Greg Lake, 26, joined the brawl, which spilled over on to the dancefloor at the club.
The second episode saw Vicky Pattison, 23, get into a fight after “shoving” another girl in a club.
An insider said, “Officers are watching the show for incidents that could be seen as disorder or assault.”
And a spokeswoman from Northumbria Police said, “We...

The premiere of MTV's new reality show Geordie Shore included the housemates having a fist fight in a club, one night stands and nudity in a shared hot tub. A spinoff from the successful Us series Jersey Shore, the programme features four girls and four guys from the North-East living and partying together under the same roof. Last night's opening instalment proved to be as controversial as its Us counterpart with "self-confessed professional poser" James Tindale ending up in a scuffle on their first group night out. The gym fanatic lashed out at a man who was performing rude hand gestures behind his back while he was kissing a girl. His co-star Greg Lake also joined in the fight, which spilled on to the venue's dancefloor. Sophie Kasaei introduced herself to the show by getting drunk immediately on arrival at the house and vomiting on the bathroom (more)...
