Whitney Cummings is bringing the jokes. “Whitney Cummings: Jokes,” the comedian’s fifth special — and her first self-funded one — will premiere July 26 on Netflix.
Cummings described this stand-up special as “more nostalgic and emotionally cozy: no politics, no lecturing, no self- indulgence.”
“As media is getting more and more fractured, I like the challenge of going, ‘How do I appeal to everybody?’” Cummings told Variety. “I’m still interested in what unites all of us and what we all have in common. Comedians, we’re so masochistic. The idea of trying to find something we can all agree on right now is probably a psychotic mission. But just with how acrimonious everything feels, how apocalyptic the vibe feels online, you only get the news that you want to see, you only see the opinions that you’ve signed up to follow… On my podcast I’m very interested in the...

Fox Atomic has acquired Nick Kurzon's comedy pitch Spending My Inheritance for mid-six figures.
The story centers on a twenty-something slacker enjoying life beyond his means who reluctantly moves home only to find his once-frugal father living life to the fullest and spending the money his son had counted on inheriting.
Comedy scribe Scot Armstrong, whose credits include "Starsky & Hutch," Old School and the upcoming Ben Stiller starrer The Heartbreak Kid, and Ravi Nandan are producing Inheritance through their American Work shingle.
"Nick is a writer we've wanted to work with for a long time," Nandan said. "When he pitched us this idea, it seemed very timely and the perfect way to pair up a veteran comedy actor with an up-and-coming comedian."
Fox Atomic's Debbie Liebling and Jeff Arkuss brought the project into the youth-centric label of 20th Century Fox.
Kurzon recently sold the pitch On the Clock to Warner Bros. Pictures, with Shawn Levy attached to direct. He also sold his first spec, Big Dawg, to Warners, which Plan B is producing.

Shawn Levy will direct and Nick Kurzon will write an as-yet untitled project for Warner Bros. Pictures, based on an original pitch by Kurzon. Levy will also produce the comedy along with Plan B. The high-concept comedy follows a selfish bachelor who wakes up to discover he has a biological clock, and it's ticking. Jeff Clifford is the studio executive on the project. Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner are overseeing for Plan B. "The thought of pairing (Kurzon's) writing talent with a great premise excited me, and excited me so much that I've become both producer and director," Levy said.
