“Sort Of” has already gotten its send-off, but as the Canadian sitcom premieres its third and final season on Max, it’ll sort of do it all over again. The big-hearted Peabody Award-winning comedy wrapped up last month on its CBC home but will say goodbye one more as Season 3 premieres on the streamer this Thursday, Jan. 18. In the final season, Sabi is coming to terms with the feelings of grief (and the unexpected sense of freedom) that comes with the death of their father. Now, without the constraints of his expectations, Sabi will confront big questions about their identity, prompting major life changes while still trying to balance their roles as child, caregiver, worker, and person. “Sort Of” Season 3 will debut on Max with two episodes on Thursday, Jan. 18, followed by two episodes weekly through Feb. 8. You can watch with a 7-Day Free Trial of Max.

The upcoming third season of CBC and Max original comedy “Sort Of” will be its final season, co-creators Bilal Baig and Fab Filippo have announced.
The final eight-episode season will premiere in Canada on the CBC Gem streaming service on Nov. 17, releasing two episodes per week until the series finale on Dec. 8.
“We set out to tell a story about a kind of transition in Sabi’s life, and how those around them also change — and we feel in this coming season that story came to an end in a way that felt right for us,” Baig and Filippo said in a statement.
“Sort Of” follows Sabi Mehboob, played by Baig, a gender expansive millennial who is exhausted with changing themselves for the comfort of others. In the third and final season, the series will explore Sabi’s journey coming to terms with feelings of both grief and freedom after their father’s passing.

HBO Go, HBO Now, HBO Max, Max — the name may change, but the search for compelling new shows to watch remains the same. Primetimer is taking some of the guesswork out of the equation with our weekly feature To the Max, where we'll share recommendations for classic shows, underrated gems, and water-cooler series.
There’s a scene during the first episode of Sort Of that touches upon the core of the series. The show’s protagonist Sabi (Bilal Baig), a non-binary Pakistani millennial, is working their shift at a LGBTQ+ bookstore/bar as Bessy (Grace Lynn Kung) laments over her husband’s recent decision to let Sabi go from their part-time nannying gig. “I’m going to miss you,” Bessy earnestly tells them. “Are you going to miss me?” But Sabi evades answering, not yet ready to confront the weight of their emotions.

Invitation to Murder is a mystery film directed by Stephen Shimek.
Does a story about England, an invitation, different characters and a murder to be solved sound familiar? They’re called whodonit, and the greatest exponent of the genre was the ever-great Agatha Christie.
Here’s a charming film that captures the essence, step by step, without the minimum intent of originality.
Delightful in its evocation of English traditionalism.
And in its consequent repetition, too.
Movie Review
Curiously enough, this is actually a French production in which everything takes us to England, to those stories that, although already a bit worn out by repetition, continue to captivate. A good mystery for a film that, without a doubt, we have already seen.
There is nothing original in a film that is a tribute to the English writer and, in the end, little more than a rather televised episode that may entertain...

"You gotta get down into the muck if you wanna find the truth." Lionsgate has revealed the official trailer for another whodunit murder mystery movie called Invitation to a Murder, which is skipping theaters entirely and is debuting on VOD directly in April this spring. Once you get a look at this, you'll understand exactly why. This is some low rent cheap junk, and the cast is especially mediocre, too. Set in the South of England in 1934. For no apparent reason and also like five other unrelated people, Miranda, a 28-year-old florist, is invited for the weekend in the mansion of billionaire Lewis Findley. What's become of their absent host? And who just murdered one of the guests in cold blood? Of course, there's only one way to find out – pay the money to rent and watch this movie. It stars Mischa Barton, Chris Browning, Seamus Dever, Giles Matthey, Grace Lynn Kung,...

In the second season premiere of the wonderful Canadian dramedy Sort Of, Sabi Mehboob (Bilal Baig) expresses a hope of finding “normal love.” Asked what that phrase means, Sabi explains, “You know: easy, uncomplicated — probably what Rachel McAdams has.”

Clarice Episode 13
Clarice, episode 13, “Family is Freedom,” only closes some of the cliffhangers “Father Time” ended on. We still don’t know whether Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds) will be reinstated into the ViCAP team, and we never find out what happened to young Clarice when her Sheriff father left her at the mercy of some pissed off criminals.
The last image we saw of that encounter, when Clarice ran it through her repressed memory bank, was a young Clarice with a gun held to her head as her father hangs his head in shame in the distance. The men who said they were cheated, and called Clarice’s dad a criminal and a coward, warned him he couldn’t hide behind his little girl. We never learn how that scenario plays out. How does she live through that incident to become the wild card federal cop she is today?...

Clarice Episode 12
In Clarice episode 12, “Father Time,” Agent Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds) finally loses her shit and clocks someone, and the series is better off for it. The young agent who rose to the top of a media circus on her first serial killer case has been scrutinized, chastised, hypnotized, and downsized since returning to the field. She’s had to run amok straight into danger just to get a point across which will solve cases. Tonight, Clarice lashes out at everyone, packs her boxes, and runs until her legs give out. It provides the most satisfying episode the series has given so far.
Starling has even had enough of her chosen, as opposed to assigned, therapist. Dr. Renee Li (Grace Lynn Kung), is the very definition of calming. Just a few words from her mouth usually silence the lambs in Clarice’s head. But...

Clarice Episode 7
Clarice, episode 7, “Ugly Truth,” is a monster-of-the-week exploration of a cold case procedural. It also moves the overall arc along as true ugliness is found within. “Some monster killed two little kids,” Ardelia Mapp (Devyn Tyler) says. The episode opens with a hideous image, foreshadowed and cinematically darkened by the growing buzz of a swarm of flies.
The opening shot is quite masterful. It takes a while for the idea to register that flies are drawn to dead things until just a moment before we see what died. The flies should be given credit, as they will continue to recur as both a character and mood-setter over the course of the early investigation. Clarice routinely plays with forced perspective and stalled chronology to move the inner story. The camera-work goes into overtime this episode as clues, details and emotional states are captured through the shifting flow of time.

With the third season of “Star Trek: Discovery” airing its finale on Thursday, Jan. 7, it is difficult to overstate what a significant milestone this season marked for representation across the franchise.
Case in point, the series introduced a romantic relationship between the first non-binary and transgender characters in the “Star Trek” universe, played respectively by a non-binary and a trans actor.
This recent spotlight on inclusive casting is part of an extended conversation that longtime fans like Phil Yu have been following over the years. To celebrate the steppingstones, Yu, who founded the “Angry Asian Man” blog centering on Asian American representation in Hollywood, launched a podcast in August, on which he hosts hour-long conversations with “All the Asians on ‘Star Trek.'”
While Yu half-jokingly titled his podcast, he tells Variety now that “the name points out that there are just enough [Asians] involved to make a podcast out of...

"We have an important task for you..." HBO has launched a full-length official trailer for Ramin Bahrani's Fahrenheit 451, a new feature film adaptation of Ray Bradbury's seminal work about a dystopian book-burning future America (which was made into a film in 1966). Oh my does this look good, and frighteningly accurate in relation to what's currently happening in America. This version stars Michael B. Jordan as Guy Montag, a young fireman who struggles with his role as a law enforcer. The full cast includes Michael Shannon, Sofia Boutella, Keir Dullea, Chris Gleason, Martin Donovan, Lilly Singh, Grace Lynn Kung, Joe Pingue, and Sean Jones. I am so, so in for this and can't wait to watch the entire film. Trust in Bahrani! He's a great filmmaker, and I have a good feeling he's made one of his strongest yet with this film. Here's the full-length trailer for Ramin Bahrani's Fahrenheit 451,...

Starring Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon, Fahrenheit 451 is based on Ray Bradbury’s classic novel where, in the near future, the media is an opiate, history is rewritten and “firemen” burn books.
Jordan plays Montag, a young fireman who struggles with his role as law enforcer. Battling his mentor, fire captain Beatty, played by Shannon, he forsakes his world in an effort to regain his humanity.
A new trailer for the HBO series has premiered and it looks good enough for me to be intrigued.
Sofia Boutella, Lilly Singh, Laura Harrier, Martin Donovan, Andy McQueen, Dylan Taylor, Grace Lynn Kung and Kier Dullea also star.
Fahrenheit 451 airs on HBO May 19, 2018.

"A little knowledge is a dangerous thing." This is a must watch! HBO has unveiled the first teaser trailer for their new adaptation of the novel Fahrenheit 451, directed by filmmaker Ramin Bahrani (Goodbye Solo, At Any Price, 99 Homes). Adapted directly from Ray Bradbury's seminal work about a dystopian book-burning future America (which was made into a film in 1966), this version stars Michael B. Jordan as Guy Montag, a young fireman who struggles with his role as a law enforcer. The full cast also includes Michael Shannon, Sofia Boutella, Keir Dullea, Chris Gleason, Martin Donovan, Lilly Singh, Grace Lynn Kung, Joe Pingue, and Sean Jones. This looks so damn good, way better than I was expecting it to look. I'm fully ready for this, and I feel like Bahrani might've been the perfect director for it after all. Fire this up.
