- Sotigui Kouyaté was born on July 19, 1936 in Bamako, Mali. He was an actor and composer, known for Little Senegal (2000), Dirty Pretty Things (2002) and London River (2009). He was married to Ester Marty. He died on April 17, 2010 in Paris, France.

- A film and stage actor, he also served as Artistic Director of the Volta Ballet and the Volta Theatre Company. He founded in France the theater troupe La Voix du Griot . He was at one time captain of Mali's national football team.
