¡niaga ti ecneirepxE! Warner Bros has announced that they are re-releasing Christopher Nolan's Tenet again in 2024, for one week only this February. Most of you will remember how hard they tried to turn this into a hit in late 2020 right at the start of the pandemic, but it didn't do so well at the box office back then. Time to try again. Tenet is a sci-fi action movie on a global scale, involving time travel and espionage. The gimmick involves a device that can reverse time, which powerful people want to manipulate for their gain. John David Washington stars with Robert Pattinson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Debicki, Kenneth Branagh, Clémence Poésy, Dimple Kapadia, Yuri Kolokolnikov, and of course Michael Caine. I wish this movie was better - even though I saw it a few times, it's one of my least favorite Nolan creations. Tenet will play again in 70mm and in IMAX starting February 23rd,...

As the ambassador for this year’s Key Buyers Event, the annual showcase for Russian content and talent organized by state film promotion body Roskino, leading man Yuri Kolokolnikov, who was born in Moscow but raised in Canada, sees himself as a fitting spokesperson for an event designed to build bridges.
“Since early childhood, my life was between East and West. I witnessed how the world has become unified, in spite of all the existing disagreements,” he told Variety. “Our industry is at the cutting edge of this movement. We all want to get to know each other. And I would like to continue to be part of this connecting tissue.”
Kolokolnikov’s Hollywood career began auspiciously when he met casting director Nina Gold, who was in Russia scouting actors for “Game of Thrones.” She offered him an audition, and he was soon cast as Styr, leader of the fierce,...

Set to return to Cannes competition after his impressive rock ‘n roll drama Leto, director Kirill Serebrennikov’s latest work is Petrov’s Flu. Although conceived before the pandemic, the adaptation of Alexey Salnikov’s 2018 novel “The Petrovs In and Around the Flu” certainly has new resonance as it captures life in a post-Soviet Russia, specifically in a city in the throes of a flu epidemic. Ahead of a Cannes premiere, a new trailer has now arrived.
Described as a deadpan, hallucinatory romp, the film follows the Petrov family as they struggle through yet another day in a country where the past is never past, the present is a booze-fueled, icy fever dream of violence and tenderness.
The film was written while the director was on house arrest in Moscow. “I was under house arrest for almost two years,” he told THR. “But the last year I was quite free.

"Is it okay that we kidnapped a corpse and kind of mocked it?" A festival promo trailer has debuted for the new Russian film titled Petrov's Flu, the latest from acclaimed Russian filmmaker / theater director Kirill Serebrennikov. It's premiering at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival next month in the Competition section. His last feature, a rock band film called Leto (which is a Great film), also premiered at Cannes in 2018 while Serebrennikov was under house-arrest in Russia (for political reasons). Based on the novel titled "The Petrovs In and Around the Flu" by Alexey Sainikov, Petrov’s Flu is described as a “deadpan, hallucinatory romp through Post-Soviet Russia”. A day in the life of a comic book artist and his family in post-Soviet Russia, as he is taken on a long walk by his friend while he has the flu. Starring Semyon Serzin, Chulpan Khamatova, with Yuriy Borisov, Yuliya Peresild, Yuri Kolokolnikov,...

"Do you know an ancient tale about the people who lost their paradise?" Bolshoe Kino Film has debuted an official trailer for an epic sci-fi thriller titled We, or Мы in Russian, based on the novel ("We") by Evgenij Ivanovič Zamjatin, forefather of all Dystopian stories and precursor of Huxley's Brave New World. The film takes place after the "apocalypse" - a Great War. It follows an engineer named D-503, who is engaged in the building of a spaceship. He lives in the "One State" perfect world, an authoritarian system of serial numbers, uniforms, glass houses, and scheduled sex. But of course this kind of "perfect" state is never that perfect... The film stars Yegor Koreshkov, Elena Podkaminskaya, Philip Yankovsky, Yuri Kolokolnikov, and Dmitry Chebotarev. I'm seriously impressed by the production design and the overall look & feel of this. Russians have been making some kick ass sci-fi recently! Very stylish,...

A fictional standup confronts his limits in this intriguing time capsule of 1980s Soviet history
It’s 1984: the Ussr is on the verge of collapse, and so is Boris Arkadiev (Aleksey Agranovich), a fictional standup who has enormous mainstream success but crumbles under bouts of insecurities. A failed novelist, Boris now tours the country with a banal routine about … a naughty monkey. The Kgb approves and the audience roars with laughter, but Boris merely simmers with apathy.
Boris’s problems lie in his political spinelessness. His friends chastise him: Simon (Semyon Steinberg), an outspoken writer, mourns Boris’ idealistic literary past; Max (Yuri Kolokolnikov), an actor enamoured with American culture, concludes that the comedian should defect. Adding to the horrors, Boris’ teenage son writes anti-communist rock tunes in a bedroom plastered with posters of David Bowie and T Rex. This failure to communicate reaches a surreal peak when Boris is...

New York City movie theaters will have a big blockbuster available to them immediately when they’re able to open this Friday, as Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” will finally open on the big screen on March 5.
“Tenet” will play at the AMC Lincoln Square, AMC Empire, AMC Kips Bay, Village East by Angelika in 70mm and Showcase Cinemas Jamaica. It will then open on IMAX screens a week later on March 12 at AMC Lincoln Square.
John David Washington and Robert Pattinson star in the time- and genre-bending action and sci-fi film that opened in the few theaters nationwide that were open last September. So far, the movie has brought in $363 million worldwide at the box office, though it’s made only $57.9 million domestically.
Last month, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo cleared NYC movie theaters to open their doors at 25% capacity beginning on March 5, bringing the city in line with the rest of the state.

At long last, the masses will be able to see Christopher Nolan’s latest in about a month. Yes, earlier today there was a press release put out by Warner Bros. announcing when Tenet would be coming to homes. Officially, December 15th is when the film will be available on 4K, Blu-ray, and Digital Video On Demand. The movie obviously is still playing in theaters, but with no signs that Los Angeles or New York City will see cinemas opening soon, this seems like the right call by WB. Nolan fans will get to finally see the flick, no one is put at risk, and the company can continue to try and make some money back on it. All in all, everyone seems to win here with this choice… Here’s the press release, making the Tenet announcement: Burbank, CA, November 5 – “Tenet,” the must-see motion picture event, playing now on...

German distributor Tiberius Film has acquired the local rights to Woody Harrelson’s comedy “Lost in London” at the American Film Market, as well as two films from Russian producer Central Partnership – action movie “The Ninth” and horror thriller “The Widow.”
“Lost in London,” Harrelson’s directorial debut, was experimental. It was shot over a single night and was screened live in selected movie theaters. Harrelson plays himself in the film, in which he experiences an insane night in London, ending up in prison.
Other well-known actors and musicians who cross his path that night include Owen Wilson, Daniel Radcliffe, Willie Nelson and Bono. The film was produced by Signature Ent.
The visually arresting “The Ninth” is set in 19th century St. Petersburg, in which occultism and spiritual séances are very popular. When a series of mysterious murders occur, young commissioner Rostov investigates. Evgeniy Tsyganov (“Red Sniper”) and Yuri Kolokolnikov,...

Screenwriter Michael Idov makes an impressive directing debut with the super-smart, confidently lensed “The Humorist.” Set in the waning days of the Soviet Union when decadence and repression went hand-in-hand, the film is a portrait of a comedian whose intellect becomes a burden when he can’t adapt himself to the increasingly heavy chains of expectation and censorship. Idov’s exceptionally clever dialogue is matched with a sharp understanding of structure, culminating in a terrific bathhouse scene with more than casual nods not just to “Julius Caesar” but to the whole fall of the Roman Empire. Released earlier this year in the territories of its its production companies, “The Humorist” is oddly only now finding festival berths.
Boris Arkadiev didn’t set out to be a comedian, but his novel flopped and he found a lucrative career doing stand-up throughout the Ussr. Success hasn’t brought him happiness, as a...

Berlin-based sales agent M-appeal has picked up the rights to black comedy “The Humorist,” directed by Michael Idov, one of the scriptwriters of “Leto,” a competition title at last year’s Cannes Film Festival.
“The Humorist,” which makes its market premiere at Berlin’s European Film Market on Feb. 8, stars Aleksey Agranovich, Alisa Khazanova and Yuri Kolokolnikov. It is produced by Metrafilms’ Artem Vasilyev, who was one of the producers on Alexey German Jr.’s “Dovlatov,” a competition title at last year’s Berlin Film Festival.
Set in the mid-80s in the Soviet Union, “The Humorist” revolves around Boris Arkadiev, a Russian-Jewish stand-up comedian who is tormented not only by external oppression and censorship, but also by his own insecurities. Fame and the lack of personal freedom contribute to his unbalanced state of mind. When the leaders who dictate what he can and can’t joke about summon him to their villa,...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Americans” Season 6, Episode 4, “Mr. and Mrs. Teacup.”]
Who thought a montage involving Paige making out and Philip line dancing could be so heartbreaking?
Thus is the power of “The Americans,” as showrunners Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg almost simultaneously doled out pleasure and pain in a bone-chilling fourth episode. Philip (Matthew Rhys) clung to his simple pleasures while he could, retreating to his favorite country bar to kick off his boots with coworkers before snacking on potato chips over a pile of mounting bills. Paige’s (Holly Taylor) date turned from a fun night out to a professional conflict as she stared at her sleeping beau’s valuable ID badge. And then there’s Elizabeth (Keri Russell): so close to getting what she needs, only to be left with nothing yet again.
She’s tired, and we’re scared. Much like joy and sorrow are contradictory emotions, each...

This looks very weird. A very short teaser trailer has debuted online for a film titled Journey to China, for short, though it goes by many names. This film is actually Viy 2, a sequel to Viy (from 2014), also known as Forbidden Empire - a fantasy adventure movie set in a cursed Romanian forest. This sequel goes by other titles including: Journey to China: The Mystery of Iron Mask, The Mystery of Dragon Seal: The Journey to China, or just simply Viy-2. The plot involves English traveler/cartographer Jonathan Green journeying to China and falling into a fantastical adventure. The film's peculiar cast features Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, Rutger Hauer, Charles Dance, Jason Flemyng, Yuri Kolokolnikov. Schwarzenegger is playing James Hook, but I don't even know what's going on. Maybe the full-length trailer will reveal more. I'd never heard of The Duelist before, but Sony Pictures has just unveiled a full trailer for the upcoming foreign film that looks pretty damn cool. It's set in 1800s Russia and follows an incredibly effective gunfighter who stands in as a duelist for nobles whose honor is slighted by others. But things take a turn when he falls for the sister of a young prince.
This movie looks crazy expensive, with some gorgeous sweeping landscape shots and rad-looking costumes, and it feels a little like a cross between a period romance and an almost steampunk-style take on something like The Count of Monte Cristo. I'm interested to hear what you all think about this trailer.
The Duelist is written and directed by Alexey Mizgirev, and it stars Petr Fedorov, Vladimir Mashkov, Martin Wuttke, Julia Khlynina, Yuri Kolokolnikov, and Franziska Petri. It hits theaters on December 2, 2016.

"You've died so many times. You will never die again." Well, this looks crazy cool. Sony Pictures Russia has debuted a trailer for a big-budget Russian adventure movie called The Duelist, directed by indie filmmaker Alexey Mizgirev. A few moviegoers might've seen the WWII action movie Stalingrad a few years back, as it was released in IMAX by Sony. This is Sony's latest Russian feature that they're be releasing to Us audiences in IMAX even though no date has been set yet. The Duelist is about a vengeful duelist who never loses. The cast includes Pyotr Fyodorov (Stalingrad), Vladimir Mashkov (Ghost Protocol), Yuri Kolokolnikov (Game of Thrones), and Martin Wuttke (Inglorious Basterds). This seems dark and epic and very violent. Here's the official trailer for Alexey Mizgirev's The Duelist, direct from Sony Pictures Russia's YouTube: An adventure film, with dramatic and thriller elements set against the backdrop of palaces and...

I not going to hide the fact I’m a huge Transporter fan, from the very first movie to the more recent, if little seen here in the UK, TV show, I’ve enjoyed [to various extents] each and every entry in the franchise. So, unlike some out there, I was not afraid to see the film series rebooted with a new star and a new story. And that’s what we get with The Transporter Refueled. My only worry was that no-one connected to the original films, apart from Luc Besson, had any part of this film… But then that was also the case with the series, and I really enjoyed that!

Much like in Season 2, Game of Thrones staged a massive standalone battle in its penultimate episode. It was bloody, brutal, and a heck of a lot of fun. Let’s dig in!
Nice touch – for what might be the first time ever, the opening titles only list the people that Actually appear in this episode, making for the shortest cast list ever. Take the night off, Dinklage!
Jon (Kit Harington) and Sam (John Bradley) are on night shift at the Night’s Watch. Sam wants to know what it’s like to go to the bone zone, but Jon remains coy. Sam also points out that their vows don’t actually explicitly prohibit a lot of things. (Like butt stuff?) Jon finally opens up a little: “For a little while, you’re more than just you.” Ugh. Emo has finally made it to Westeros.
Jon sends Sam to get some sleep,...

The best-looking Game Of Thrones installment yet? Ron digs into season four episode nine, The Watchers On The Wall...
Review
This review contains spoilers.
4.9 The Watchers On The Wall
There are some episodes of Game Of Thrones that are showcases for the writing prowess of Dan Benioff and Db Weiss (and a whole bunch of other great television writers), there are episodes that are dedicated to the prowess of brilliant actors like Peter Dinklage, and then there are episodes of Game Of Thrones that are nothing but spectacle.
Given the importance of the ninth episode of each season, it's not surprising that The Watchers On The Wall is less a plot advancing episode and more of a pure spectacle courtesy of one of the masters of the modern action sequence.
That would be Neil Marshall, who turned a cult classic film (Dog Soldiers) into a brilliant turn in the director's...

After winning Best Screenplay at Cannes for Leviathan, Andrei Zvyagintsev is to head the jury at the 25th “Kinotavr” Open Russian Film Festival in Sochi.
Zvyagintsev, who will give a masterclass during the festival, will present the Russian premiere of his fourth feature as Kinotavr’s closing film on June 8 in the 141-minute version which premiered in Cannes.
During the Cannes Film Festival, questions were raised about whether this will be the version that is then released in Russian cinemas this September as the film could fall foul of the anti-obscenity law coming into effect on July 1.
However, the director had countered in a press conference that the law could not operate in retrospect and so would not apply to his film.
It was revealed that Russia’s Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky had indicated that he did not like the film - although he acknowledged Zvyagintsev’s talent - and had taken offence at the copoius drinking...

The Game Of Thrones season 4 opener introduces new threats and proves it's still a masterclass in staging on-screen violence...
This review contains spoilers. Our spoiler-free episode review is here.
4.1 Two Swords
With every visit to Westeros, there are new faces to learn, new characters to learn, and new relationships to figure out. Who swears fealty to whom? Who wants to kill who over what slight from ages past? Just what is Daenerys going to do with her army of ex-slaves, disgraced Westerosi, crabby teenage dragons, and three remaining Dothraki (remember them?) all the way over on the wrong side of the world?
Between characters dying, new characters joining the regular cast, and the occasional actor recasting between seasons, Game Of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have gotten really good at explaining, as entertainingly as possible, just who these new folks are and...

Exclusive: Fox International Productions is developing another project with actor-turned-filmmaker Yuri Kolokolnikov. Irokez, which translates as “Mohican”, is a $10 million period comedy written by Yaroslav Chevazhevsky (Kuka), who is already making Victory Day for Fip. Victory Day is a Harold and Maude-style road comedy about a Russian teenager on a road trip with his Babushka grandmother to the famous Red Square May parade. Pushkin hopes to begin shooting next year in Moscow. Fip is also developing a Russian-language remake of Working Girl, the 80s comedy which starred Melanie Griffith as a secretary who rises through the ranks of corporate Manhattan, and Tony Scott’s action movie Man On Fire, which starred Denzel Washington. Rezo Gegenieshvil, who’s Heat (Zhara) remains one of Russia’s highest-grossing local films, is directing this Russian Working Girl remake.
