Opens: 2010
Cast: Naomi Watts, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington
Director: Rodrigo Garcia
Summary: A tale of a mother and daughter, separated at birth, who struggle with the damage done by the most important person missing in their lives while a young African-Americn woman deals with an unwanted pregnancy and the adoption process.
Analysis: Scoring rave reviews in Toronto, the $7 million latest effort of Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives," "Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her") once again shows off his skill at weaving multiple narratives together in clever and unexpected ways. At its heart it's an emotional family drama, but Garcia excels with his female characters which makes the involvement of Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and especially Annette Benning thrilling.
The few criticisms levelled at the film were toward some pacing and credibility issues in the last act, but otherwise praised it for not »

Rating: PG
Release Date: December 12, 2009
Plot: A young girl (Blunt) is caught between two ruling uncles, the King of England and the King of Belgium. Destined to be Queen, the regency order is there to keep her out of power until it’s decided she isn’t too young anymore.
Who’S It For? Period piece. Did you just get excited? This early 1800’s film is a powerful piece of historical drama that I was unaware of, and it should please those who are still too excited by the mention of “period piece.”
Overall
Young Victoria is never given a reason for her isolation. The soap opera of Kings, Queens and royalty is always rich subject matter.
At first we seem to be headed to a normal back-stabbing, »

The drama, which is an adaptation of Christopher Hampton’s stage play of the same name, set in the early 20th century is about Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud, the founders of psychoanalysis.
In Hampton’s “The Talking Cure” from 2003 Ralph Fiennes played Jung on the London stage.

Opens: July 2nd 2010
Cast: Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone, Dev Patel
Director: M. Night Shyamalan
Summary: A live-action film based on the Nickelodeon animated TV series. In a fantastic world where civilisation exists as four great empires, a reluctant young child sets out on a perilous journey to restore balance to a world torn apart by war.
Analysis: Its been quite the decade for M. Night Shyamalan who started it as a household name with labels of a moodern-day Hitchcock thanks to the likes of "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs". Today he's considered more of a one-trick pony and in some cases a punchline due to rampant stories of egomania run wild and a series of much derided onscreen flops like "Lady in the Water" and "The Happening".
Thus 'Airbender' marks a potential return to form for the helmer. An adaptation of the hit cartoon series »

He's been feted for his appearances with Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer and is soon to open in the West End. Yet the media only want to discuss his relationship with Keira Knightley. No wonder he is wary says Elizabeth Day
Rupert Friend already knows how this interview is going to be written. "You start off with a humorous anecdote about meeting me," he says, as if reciting a shopping list. "Then you end on something that neatly refers back to the beginning. It's so boring." He sits back in his chair, a small smile on his face.
It seems fair to say that Friend, 28, has developed a fairly healthy contempt for journalists. He tells me that he refuses to read any newspapers because they are saturated with meaningless celebrity trivia and he seems to believe most of us who work for them are hopelessly ignorant. At one point, when »

Among those attacked for their choice of clothing are Kate Moss, Catherine Zeta Jones and Rihanna
Kate Moss, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Elizabeth Hurley are used to dominating society's best-dressed lists. But this week they will find themselves topping a more dishonourable fashion list.
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) Foundation has drawn up a roll call of the fashion world's Worst Dressed Celebrities based on their penchant for pelts. The Duchess of Cornwall and Shirley Bassey will also grace the list, as will football Wags Coleen Rooney and Alex Gerrard, and the singer Rihanna.
The "winner", to be chosen in an online poll, will be announced in February by Stella McCartney, a vegetarian who refuses to use any leather and fur in her designs.
The award is considered to be a powerful weapon in the fight against fur. Last year Paris Hilton and Christina Ricci announced a »

Keira Knightley, Michael Fassbender and Christoph Waltz have apparently joined David Cronenberg's long-gestating thriller "The Talking Cure" for Hanway Films.
Announced on the Facebook page of the film's Australian distributor Hopscotch Films, the project has been in long development from a play by Christopher Hampton.
The story revolves around famed psychoanalyst Carl Jung's relationship with a young Russian girl driven mad by her past and who became his first patient, and Jung's esteemed mentor and father of modern psychology Sigmund Freud.
Cronenberg has been linked to the project since 2007, though his return is not surprising considering two further projects he's been linked to - "The Matarese Circle" and "Cosmopolis" - were both put on the back burner this year. »

Keira Knightley is steering clear of the kitchen this Christmas - because her cookery exploits usually end in tears.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star admits she is not a culinary expert, and can rarely rustle up a meal without creating a disaster.
Knightley insists she is always burning her dinner, or dropping dishes - but she's hoping someone will buy her a cookery book this year so she can improve her kitchen skills.
She says, "I am not the best cook in the world. I have tried, but I really am hopeless. I can cook maybe one dish. But even then, if you ate it, you'd probably end up with food poisoning. Recently, a friend explained how to make an eggplant bake. I brought it out of the oven in this beautiful bowl - and dropped it. It smashed all over the kitchen, and I burst into tears. Which is why I will ask Santa for some easy-to-understand cook books." »

David Cronenberg, who while we weren't looking apparently became a mainstream filmmaker, has signed up Keira Knightley and Basterds co-stars Christoph waltz and Michael Fassbender for an adaptation of Christopher Hampton's play The Talking Cure. The Playlist cites a Facebook post by Australian outfit Hopscotch Films, proving that news can come from just about anywhere these days.
The story revolves around Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud, so I guess that makes this an action movie, huh? The fathers of psychoanalysis met in 1907, and maintained a long relationship. Freud was about 20 years older, so I'd guess that means Waltz is Sigmund and Fassbender is Jung. As for Knightley, here's how she fits in:

Australian distributor Hopscotch Films announced via its Facebook page that the acting trifecta of Keira Knightley, Christoph Waltz and Michael Fassbender have joined acclaimed director David Cronenberg for the adaptation of Christopher Hampton’s play The Talking Cure. The play focuses on famous psychoanalysts and close friends Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung and their relationship with patient Sabina Spielrein. The movie marks the first from Cronenberg since his 2007 project Eastern Promises and the second time Knightley features in a Hampton piece, the first being the Oscar-nominated Atonement.

Star joins Inglourious Basterds' Michael Fassbender and Christoph Waltz in David Cronenberg's film of Christopher Hampton's psychoanalytical play
Keira Knightley is to take the lead in David Cronenberg's first film in three years, reports the Playlist blog.
The Talking Cure, based on the Christopher Hampton play of the same name, will star Knightley as Sabina Spielrein, a Russian-Jewish psychiatric patient, who is said to have inspired some of Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud's most remarkable discoveries. Christoph Waltz and Michael Fassbender – who both featured in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds – are set to co-star, with Waltz as Freud, and Fassbender as Jung.
Hampton's play focuses on the relationship between Spielrein and Jung, when he was treating her at the Burghölzli mental hospital near Zurich in 1904. Jung used Freudian techniques to try and overcome Spielrein's association of paternal punishment with physical arousal.

When Tarantino first burst on to the scene, he quickly became renowned as a director who could reinvigorate a career. It began with John Travolta in Pulp Fiction, then there was Robert Forester in Jackie Brown, and, briefly, David Carradine in Kill Bill. Now following the release and incredible success of Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino isn't exactly reinventing careers, but he's giving them a hell of a boost. By way of their Facebook account (kind of an esoteric place to post an announcement like this), Hopscotch Films has announced that they will be distributing David Cronenberg's next film, The Talking Cure, and that it has lined up its three stars: Christoph Waltz, Michael Fassbender and Keira Knightley. Based on the play of the same name by Christopher Hampton, the story centers on the birth of psychoanalysis and the relationship between Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud and Jung's young Russian patient whom »
