Exclusive: Regal Cinemas will release Craig Singer’s independent film 6:45 exclusively in theaters in the U.S. and Canada on August 6
The director and former Disney creative executive Singer said the agreement marks the first time since the pandemic that the nation’s second largest chain has supported an independent horror release.
“As the country comes out of the pandemic, we can all use an escape from reality, and nothing does that quite like the movies. We’re thrilled that Regal will be distributing 6:45, giving [it] widest possible audience,” said Singer.
“There is only one way to truly enjoy a horror movie and that is on the big screen,” said Rob Westerling, Regal’s head film buyer. “Through our partnership with Cascrator Film & Media [Singer’s production company], we are excited to bring our guests the psychological thriller 6:45. This...

How do you sell a movie that, if people knew what it was actually about, they would never buy it? Why, prominently feature the most famous and well-liked cast member on the DVD box, even if he’s in the film for only 15 or so minutes, of course! Writing up a misleading description for the back won’t hurt either.
When you look at the Photoshop Disasters-worthy cover of Frenemy, Zach Galifianakis’ friendly face, framed by Callum Blue (Dead Like Me, Smallville) and Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket, Weeds), looks back at you. The visage, topped by big, round and red letters spelling out the film’s title, suggests a wacky comedy. The back description, on the other hand, brings to mind a dark comedy, albeit not the one this movie actually is. It describes a “group of friends” who witness a “horrifying crime” which leaves all but one unharmed.

Ever since it took off three decades ago with the likes of Halloween and Friday The 13th, the teen-slasher subgenre has been an unstoppable force in horror cinema. These films are a pleasure for certain scream fans and regular Friday-night moviegoers alike—and not a guilty one, despite what they’ve become. The youth-stalker flicks of today have become formulaic and largely substance-free, with the same group of annoying characters being (thankfully) killed off in pretty much the same order under the same circumstances.
So what keeps us coming? Even though they’ve been done to death, some of these killfests—such as Dark Ride, (part of the After Dark Horrorfest)—are simply done well. Director Craig Singer, who penned the film with Robert Dean Klein, doesn’t deviate much from the formula but rather embraces it, taking us on a far-from-perfect but fun and bloody ride.
A group of (surprise!

Gabriel Mann, Eliza Dushku and John Savage are set to star in the indie film The Thacker Case based on the real-life 1983 wrongful death case of Kevin Thacker.
Robert Dean Klein penned the screenplay based on the story written by attorney Stuart Pepper. Brian Jun is directing.
The story centers on around the mysterious death of repeat drunk driving offender Thacker and the discovery of his body in an alley behind the Marshalltown, Iowa, police department after his latest DUI arrest.
Mann will play Pepper, a young up-and-coming attorney who launches his career by landing the controversial case, which required him to wade through law enforcement corruption and cover-ups. Ultimately, Pepper gained national attention from the case.
Dushku will play Monica Wright, a young attorney and Pepper's loyal assistant.
Savage will play Thomas Thacker, Kevin's father, who enlists the help of Pepper to discover the truth behind his son's death.
Shooting began this week in Los Angeles and Iowa.

NEW YORK -- A comic crime thriller very much in the "Pulp Fiction" mode, director Craig Singer's sophomore effort suffers from the misfortune of having taken nearly a decade to make since its screenplay (by Robert Dean Klein) was first written. Following on the heels of so many other quirky, stylized successors to Tarantino's trendsetter, the minor pleasures of "A Good Night to Die" are offset by its familiarity. Featuring the sort of eclectic, memorable cast that these films tend to attract, "Die" recently received its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Gary Stretch, a former boxer from England, plays the lead role of Ronnie, a hit man who has taken a mentorlike interest in the fortunes of August (Michael Rapaport), his far less accomplished and frequently bumbling protege. August has attracted the ire of more than a few bad guys thanks to his propensity for fatal mistakes. When he kills the wrong person during an attempted hit, mob boss Madison (Deborah Harry) puts out a contract on him. Against the advice of his beautiful wife, Dana Robin Givens), Ronnie attempts to protect August, leading to a complicated series of violent repercussions and double crosses.
Featuring colorful characters (indeed, sometimes too colorful) and pungent, frequently amusing dialogue, the film is best appreciated for the opportunities it provides its truly interesting cast, which also includes Ally Sheedy and Ralph Macchio as a bizarre brother and sister team of assassins; Seymour Cassel as a mob boss and Lainie Kazan as his cocaine sniffing wife; Frank Whaley as a bedazzled television producer who offers Ronnie his own show; and James Russo as a fellow gangster. These cameo performances more than offset lead actor Stretch, who doesn't quite display the charisma necessary to carry the proceedings.
