Director/Producer Jenn Wexler’s sophomore feature, The Sacrifice Game, arrives on Shudder on December 8, just in time to spread holiday fear for the season.
With co-writer Sean Redlitz, Wexler’s latest infuses Yuletide horror with a maniacal Satanic cult set at a boarding school in the ’70s.
Mena Massoud, Olivia Scott Welch, Olympian Gus Kenworthy, Chloë Levine, Madison Baines, Derek Johns, Laurent Pitre and Georgia Acken star.
Bloody Disgusting spoke with Wexler about her devilishly fun Christmas horror feature, where she discussed her influences and ensured a movie titled The Sacrifice Game delivers on the bloodletting.
At the gooey center of a violent, bloody holiday horror tale lies the charming friendship between two teen girls held hostage by a deranged cult. Not only does friendship become the emotional backbone, but Wexler reveals that her horror movies ultimately speak to her childhood.

Celebrating its 35th anniversary, 1988’s Night of the Demons is a perfect Halloween party movie; not merely because the plot involves a Halloween party, but it embodies the spirit of the holiday.
Director Kevin Tenney (Witchboard) and writer Joe Augustyn veer between creepy and campy throughout the 90-minute runtime. A playfully spooky atmosphere is immediately established by the Scooby Doo-esque animated credit sequence set to a bombastic synth theme by the director’s brother, Dennis Michael Tenney.
The plot follows a group of rowdy high schoolers to a deadly party at the infamous Hull House. As goth hostess Angela Franklin (Amelia Kinkade) explains, the abandoned abode is possessed rather than haunted: “The spirits living in a house possessed never existed in human form. They’ve only existed in spirit form. They’re pure evil. They’re demons.” A seance awakens the spirits, who start turning the partygoers into savage demons.

At the start of this month, we shared the news that Scream Factory will be giving director Kevin S. Tenney’s 1988 classic Night of the Demons a 4K Uhd release on October 3rd – and on that same day, they’ll also be bringing the 1994 sequel Night of the Demons 2 and the 1997 sequel Night of the Demons 3 to Blu-ray. We just didn’t know what extras would be featured on these discs, except for an hour-long special where Tenney interviews Night of the Demons 2 director Brian Trenchard-Smith. A few weeks ago, we learned that Scream Factory is giving director Kevin S. Happy Halloween month! It’s time to theme the horror watchlists accordingly. We’re jumping back to the ‘80s for some quintessential Halloween horror for the first week of October.
This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to 1980s horror movies set on or around Halloween, excluding the Halloween franchise.
Here’s where you can stream these five 1980s Halloween titles this week, from kitchen sink cult gems to made-for-tv chillers!
Cemetery of Terror – AMC+, Shudder, Tubi
Rubén Galindo Jr.’s most prominent horror feature is the American-influenced Don’t Panic (available on Shudder), but the Halloween-centric Cemetery of Terror offers the most fun. A trio of college kids decides to impress their ladies by stealing a body from a morgue for a Halloween prank and party in an abandoned house. It happens to be the body of a serial killer, and reading an incantation from a book revives it.

There was some brief debate — many years ago — as to whether or not an action picture like "Die Hard," set at a Christmas party, should qualify as a Christmas movie. That is: is "Die Hard" appropriately emblematic of the holiday season? These days, it's widely accepted as such — with some websites even finding scientific evidence to prove it — but there was a time when what did and did not qualify as a Christmas move was a matter of multiple critical kerfuffles. In 2022, the broad consensus appears to be that anything set at Christmas, even briefly, could qualify. Older critics have seen the definition broaden.
No such debate was ever required for a Halloween movie. What qualifies as a "Halloween movie" has, if one asks a die-hard horror nut, always been quite broad. Indeed, nearly anything in the horror genre can be watched in the month of October and count as a Halloween movie.

It may not be the best horror movie of the ’80s, but movies like Night of the Demons are the reason we love ’80s horror. Gory, funny, sexy, scary, and silly, it’s the total package of a certain type of horror film that made so many of us fall for the genre in the first place. It’s like mainlining 88 minutes of monstrous fun directly into our horror-loving hearts.
The story is a simple one: goth girl Angela (Amelia Kinkade) is having a Halloween party at an abandoned mortuary that’s supposedly been haunted since a series of grisly murders were committed years earlier. She gathers a group of friends, some booze, and some music, but things don’t go exactly as planned and before you know it, Angela is conducting a séance to pass the time. Scream Factory’s Summer Of Fear Drive-in: Part 2 – Night of the Demons – To Air This Friday The 13th
Scream Factory’s Summer of Fear Drive-in series continues this Friday the 13th of all nights, with a special free screening of Night of the Demons. Just like last time, there will be several breaks in between, so that they can air a never-before-seen interview with director Kevin Tenney and actress Amelia Kinkade. Last week saw a few technical hiccups at the start of the show, which is to be expected when doing things live on the internet, trust me, but once it got going, it was a great experience. You may interact with other viewers via twitter while the show airs, and conversations tend to get a little wild. Show starts at 10Pm Est, so stay frosty, and get there on time so you don’t miss out on any of the fun.

A whole bunch of Scream Factory goodness was dropped into our inbox this morning, so let's forgo the usual chit-chat and cut right to the chase!

Frightmare! The premier horror convention in the Southwest has come again, and it was a riot. Well, not literally. Thankfully, massive improvements were made this year with line management of the more popular guests and parking so even when things were hot and heavy on Saturday, we never reached the critical mass found last year.
The movie and television guests were a literal who's who of icons throughout the years. The three guests of honor, Linda Blair, George A Romero, and Tobin Bell, were all busy with fans at their tables all weekend. I heard that Bell went till 1am signing on Saturday to make sure everyone was taken card of.
Having tables set up near empty walls for attendees to line up against and usage of tickets when lines got too long were big improvements. With the three guests of honor and other fan favorites such as Scott Wilson...

This week, Scream Factory gave all those Kevin Tenney fans out there what they’ve been waiting for by the way of stellar presentations of two of his beloved cult classics on Blu-ray: Witchboard and Night of the Demons. Once again, Scream Factory did a wonderful job of shining the spotlight on two more great horror films that many of us grew up enjoying.
Review: Witchboard Blu-ray
Witchboard, a movie I last saw back in the 90’s when it was still only available on VHS, isn’t by any means the scariest work from Tenney’s career, but there’s a lot to admire about his oddball supernatural story where a super-sexy Tawny Kitaen gets a little too handsy with her friend’s Ouija board.
The story begins when Brandon Sinclair (Stephen Nichols) trots out his trusty ol’ Ouija (pronounced wee-jaa as Brandon so fondly likes to correct people) board...

My discovery of Night of the Demons is one I’d consider the fondest of memories. It was back in my skuzzy VHS youth, whereupon I would scour my local mom and pop video store (Rip Video Express), placing the tags you’d need to procure said videotapes for rental. My mother would patronize the store every Friday, and my sister and I would be tasked by the friendly clerks with putting the tags out for returned tapes. I remember my curiosity being peaked by the horror section, because this was where the real gold lay within the store. The box art of these tapes showcased images that couldn’t even dream of being seen in a standard retail...

Witchboard: “It’s called a Ouija Board and it’s been used for thousands of years to communicate with the souls of the afterworld. But when the friendly spirit develops a sudden taste for violent murder and demonic possession, Linda’s boyfriend (Todd Allen) and her former lover (Stephen Nichols) must race to destroy the ferocious portal of the damned.”

So many horror hotties to choose from through out the history of our beloved genre. Amelia Kinkade from the cult classic Night of the Demons. The dance number she did in its sequel Night of the Demons 2... oh my god! Shawnee Smith from The Blob, anyone? Suzanne Snyder from Killer Klowns from Outer Space are all on my want to see them naked list.

Don't start ranting "Danielle was naked in Rob Zombie's Halloween ", because she was screaming and getting sliced up. I couldn't really relish and enjoy her naked boobies on screen. After spending most of the past decade cranking out awful horror remakes, it's reasonable to expect filmmakers to figure out what makes the original films such fan favorites. Yet, with one exception, studios keep mucking things up and the remake of Night of the Demons is no exception.
The film opens with a flashback to 1920's New Orleans, as a well dressed woman hangs herself off the balcony of the Broussard mansion, rather than be captured by a demon possessed gentleman. Perhaps hanging is too weak a term, as the rope appears to be woven out of piano wire and pops the poor lady's head clean off her shoulders. A bit over the top, but the physical effect is well executed and the flashback,...

Released on home video in 1994, Night of the Demons 2 is a bit of a surprise. The MPAA had spent the past decade beating up horror films is response to the slasher craze. The failure of the new Nc-17 rating was becoming evident, as most theaters and newspaper listings treated films with the rating like pornographic features (Showgirls didn't help much). The advent of home video was raising new concerns about children getting a hold of unrated horror films - with no one remembering that a decade ago, retailers were selling Rambo 2 toys to children.

When we brought her back to read against Amelia Kinkade, they had a strong chemistry together, and Tedra knew Linnea would have no problem with the nudity.”...

Growing up in the VHS era meant I got to see a lot of B horror movies at slumber parties. One of our staple flicks at any sleepover was Kevin Tenney's 1988 flick Night of the Demons (also, this film and The Hunger is how I discovered the beauty of Bauhaus!). Because I saw it with friends at an impressionable age, I've always had a special place in my heart for the film -- despite the fact that it has some flaws and that I prefer Brian Trenchard-Smith's sequel.

Next thing you know, teenagers are being possessed and killing each other left and right as they try to escape from the haunted building.

Rue McClanahan has died at 76. The beloved "Golden Girls" star suffered a stroke on Monday and passed away Thursday morning at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. The actress passed away at 1 a.m. this morning, with her son, Mark Bish, her sister, Dr. Melinda L. McClanahan and her nephew, Brendan Kinkade at her side. According to her rep, "she had a stroke on Monday, she was still in the hospital where she had been for quite some time. Last week, she told her long time publicist she was ready to go back to work. She was doing great. She didn't feel well on Monday." In January, it was revealed she was in the hospital after a minor stroke while she was recovering from triple bypass surgery. While there will be no funeral for Rue, as she did not wish to have one, her family has created an official memorial page on Facebook.
