Upfront week’s reliance on films isn’t actually new but it is increasingly bizarre, as evidenced by the top of Wednesday morning’s Warner Bros. Discovery presentation kicking off with sizzle that prioritized features Furiosa, Dune: Part Two and Wonka — when new episodes of the HBO and Max’s flagship Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon, are just weeks away.
But the opening frames proved to be relatively misleading, as the 90-minute (notably David Zaslav free) pitch to advertisers focused almost exclusively on … advertising. And on linear TV, at that. Film was referenced, of course, but as a vehicle to get Procter & Gamble’s Olay in on the Barbie phenomenon. Ad sales execs literally offered up James Gunn’s first project of the new DC era to the room full of media buyers, asking who wants sponsorship deals ahead of its planned 2025 release: “Do you want to be in Superman?...

The Disney-acquired Star Wars live-action lore is unarguably really trying to tighten its grip around the fandom. However, that doesn’t seem to be working, considering fans’ reaction to its latest and upcoming series, with very few series and fans as an exception. Even The Acolyte, which is the next series lined up for release this year from the saga, is ceasing to amuse fans.
The Acolyte.
This stands true because, even before its final release, this soon-to-hit-streaming series has gained massive criticism from fans because of all the changes it will be bringing to the previously massively fan-favorite lore. What’s worse is that this criticism doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon, considering how Jimmy Kimmel recently added even more misery to this project with his roasting.

Jimmy Kimmel was in attendance at this year’s Disney upfronts, where the comedian entertained everyone with his comedic gags. During the upfronts, Kimmel touched upon several topics surrounding the entertainment conglomerate, including aiming some zingers at Disney boss Bob Iger.
Jimmy Kimmel poked fun at Bob Iger at the 2024 Disney upfronts.
Kimmel made some light-hearted and humorous comments about Iger. Moreover, with Iger recently coming out of a civil war for control over the company, in which he was backed by George Lucas, Kimmel’s jokes proved to be a hilarious take on the state of Disney’s leadership. Here is what Kimmel said about Iger at this year’s upfronts.

Don’t count talk show host Jimmy Kimmel as a fan of Bachelor Nation. He dissed Golden Bachelorette Joan Vassos. Keep reading to see what he had to say about the reality star.
Joan Vassos Named Golden Bachelorette
ABC did more than just announce their fall schedule at the Upfronts. They finally put the rumors to rest and officially announced the first Golden Bachelorette. Joan Vassos, a contestant from Gerry Turner’s season, will look for love in her golden years.
The mother and grandmother, 61, left The Golden Bachelor abruptly after a phone call from her family. Her exit in Episode 3 dashed any hope from fans of her forming a strong connection with Gerry Turner.
He went on to marry Theresa Nist but they announced their divorce just a few months later. Click here to find out how Joan Vassos feels about the sad ending to the Golden Wedding.

Ryan Reynolds has been promoting his upcoming MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine every chance he gets. During the premiere of his new film If, directed by John Krasinski, Reynolds jokingly talked about adopting a particular promotional material that went viral during Dune: Part Two‘s release. The Green Lantern actor shared that he is in the process of developing a Deadpool popcorn bucket after one reporter asked him about the same.
Ryan Reynolds may come up with one promotional prop for Deadpool & Wolverine inspired by another film
Fans expect nothing short of high-octane action and mind-bending twists from the film that also stars Hugh Jackman and Emma Corrin in major roles. Many other X-Men and MCU heroes will be making appearances in Deadpool & Wolverine.

At least some things in television don’t change.
Jimmy Kimmel still chews up the business like the late, great Hannibal Lecter, a wonderful man as I’ve heard somewhere recently. On Tuesday Kimmel had the broadcast/cable/streaming business for dinner—or a late-afternoon snack—with a nice Chianti.
After an unplanned two-year absence due to a case of Covid and the writers’ strike, Kimmel, who is now the signature star of ABC, thanks to running the late-night anchor leg for 21 years (and recently killing it as host of the Oscars), was back at the Disney Upfront presentation Tuesday, slinging his familiar barbs at both his employers and everybody else’s.
“We are bundling,” he said, talking of what’s happening at Disney+ and all the other big streamers. “While from the outside, this may look like an act of desperation, from the inside, it also looks like that.

If there were any lingering doubts that the Walt Disney Co. is now comfortable leaning into the edgier aspects of its increasingly aligned portfolio, they evaporated about 10 minutes into Tuesday’s upfront presentation when Ryan Reynolds promised that eventual Disney+ library member Deadpool & Wolverine would be a boon to advertisers targeting “testicular trauma” and “cocaine content.”
There was noticeably less cursing than during the week’s previous upfront events, at least until Jimmy Kimmel took the stage, but the embrace of Hard-r content was apparent from the pitch’s opening moments. Emma Stone, the Oscar-winning star of the Disney-produced Poor Things, was on hand to introduce Bob Iger — and, a month after he won his proxy fight with Nelson Peltz, voice her support for the recently embattled CEO.

Jimmy Kimmel is, without fail, the highlight of TV’s upfronts week every year; 2024 was no exception.
The “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host left no stone unturned in his annual profane and ruthless takedown of everything Disney (and everyone else in Hollywood) wants to sell to advertisers. This year that included the new Disney+ bundle with Hulu and Max, Netflix finally kissing the asses of said advertisers, the AMPTP, “The Golden Bachelor,” and finding a catchy new name for that sports-streaming service Disney is working on with Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery.
He started things off with a huge announcement: Bob Iger’s successor at Disney as CEO is… an artificially intelligent Bob Iger clone. AIger.
“Bob isn’t going anywhere ever again anywhere,” Kimmel said. “We uploaded him to the cloud so that we can live in peace and prosperity under the watchful AI of the Iger. All hail AIger!

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host Jimmy Kimmel once again shared the Disney upfronts stage on Tuesday, providing his zingers in person for advertisers and media buyers at the programming presentation for the first time in five years. That’s because last year Kimmel didn’t attend due to the Hollywood WGA strikes. And in 2022, he was in New York — but had to be beamed in to do his routine after testing positive for Covid. (The 2021 and 2020 upfronts were virtual because of the pandemic.)
“Two years ago, I couldn’t be here in person because I had Covid. And last year, I couldn’t be here because of the writer’s strike. And this year I couldn’t think of a third excuse,” Kimmel said. “I tried diarrhea on the plane, but I guess they get that all the time now.”

After a two-year absence from the upfront stage, Jimmy Kimmel was back Tuesday to take aim at Bob Iger, P Diddy, CBS and the new Golden Bachelorette.
Introduced by Kerry Washington — who he said was the “last decent lead-in I ever had” — Kimmel had fun with an artificial version of Bob Iger on screen and another version of the Golden Bachelor franchise called The Golden Retriever: Love is a Bitch.
Here’s his monologue:
“Let’s hear it for all the talented stars who were forced to come here today because of a clause in their contract their agents didn’t bother to read. I am glad you’re all inside. I heard Amazon left you guys out on the porch. You’re lucky you didn’t get stolen.”

Jimmy Kimmel rarely holds back during his annual monologue to Disney advertisers, but this year he was particularly brutal about the state of the business.
The ABC late-night host laid into CEO Bob Iger, the Golden Bachelor, streaming bundles, Star Wars, Elon Musk and many other topics.
Here were some of his best — and most cutting — jokes to the Madison Avenue audience:
— “Golden Bachelor is a key part of our strategy to steal CBS’ viewers by putting them in a house together. We’re now launching the Golden Bachelorette, a game show where you can win an old lady. Joan is our new Golden Bachelorette. She has four kids and two grandchildren. Are the grandkids ready to see grandma get raw-dogged in a jacuzzi?”

The theme of Disney’s 2024 upfront presentation to advertisers Tuesday was “connections” — and not just because of the running bit started by “Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star Rob McElhenney, which involved their constant replaying of a five-second ad spot that said “Connections!” with a Disneyified logo and voiceover.

Sheryl Lee Ralph and Lisa Ann Walter from Abbott Elementary got to call roll at the start of the Disney Upfront Tuesday, which allowed many of the stars from the studio’s movies and networks to sound off (in a video) before the presentation kicked off at the North Javits Center.
And what’s an ABC upfront without the voice of Walt Disney? Yup, he was (heard) there, too. Here’s what else happened at the afternoon shindig:
Emma Stone, whose Oscar acceptance speech for Poor Things was replayed during the opening montage, kicked off the event to remind everyone that the studio was founded more than 100 years ago. Joan Vassos is getting another shot at love.
The 61-year-old school administrator has been cast as the inaugural Golden Bachelorette, ABC announced Tuesday during Disney’s Upfront presentation.
Vassos was an early frontrunner during Gerry Turner’s season of The Golden Bachelor. She unfortunately had to voluntarily leave the show during Week 3 due to a family emergency. When a reliable performer like The Rookie, which has always been on the fall schedule if not delayed by a pandemic or strike, is suddenly not in a network’s starting lineup for the season, fans understandably would be worried.
Magnifying their concerns is the fact that The Rookie is headed into its seventh season, which is when a lot of broadcast series are canceled these days, including two ABC dramas, Station 19 and The Good Doctor, this year.
Meanwhile, Will Trent, which launched in midseason two years ago, had its first chance to get on the ABC fall schedule but didn’t get it.
Keeping the two dramas on the bench does not signal a lack of confidence in them.
“The opposite,” Disney TV Group President Craig Erwich told Deadline in an interview tied to the Disney upfront presentation.

“I am deeply optimistic about our company, and in a world that is so in need of entertainment is a true privilege,” said Disney boss Bob Iger today in a rare appearance on stage at the start of the media giant’s upfront presentation in New York City. “To run a company that is the embodiment of creative excellence, of great and bold storytelling, of quality, and of innovation.”
“Today we’re going to share with you the incredible projects that we’re working on. And then later Jimmy Kimmel will be out to tear them all apart. I think he’ll probably be tearing me apart too.”
As he noted from the get-go, this is the first time Iger has been in front of advertisers and other clients on an upfront stage since he ran ABC Entertainment back in the early days of Bill Clinton’s presidency.

While Jimmy Kimmel was visiting the Live With Kelly And Mark show, he took his opportunity to jab Mark Consuelos for his poor choice. Undeniably, as a guest, it was a backhanded roast in Kelly Ripa and Mark’s home court. But Kelly was happy to join forces.
Jimmy Kimmel And Kelly Ripa Gang Up On Mark Consuelos
During a recent episode of Live With Kelly And Mark, Kelly Ripa gets support from the guest, Jimmy Kimmel. Undoubtedly, Mark Consuelos and Kelly know each other well with their twenty-eight years of marriage together. However, even with their experience, Mark finds ways to agitate Kelly. While it isn’t uncommon for Kelly to call out Mark about this or that, it is unusual for the guest and Kelly to bombard him together. But Jimmy was more than happy to accommodate by bringing up a sensitive matter: Mother’s Day.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! is dark this week, which gave its host the chance to do something he has never done before: be a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers. And the timing could not have been better.
After Meyers introduced Kimmel as “a fantastic comedian, writer, and human being who is also the longest tenured late-night host currently on TV,” the two wasted little time getting right down to business. For Meyers, that meant congratulating Kimmel for playing such a prominent role in Donald Trump’s hush money trial.
Kimmel accepted the kudos, but admitted that “it doesn’t compare to making so much fun of [Trump] at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that he actually ran for president… which was your fault. But it was exciting. You know, you put in the work and it really pays off.”
While Kimmel may technically be on vacation this week, being so...

Throughout the six-episode run of Netflix’s Everybody’s in L.A., John Mulaney’s comedian guests kept trying to find ways to describe the live talk show’s chaotic-bordering-on-surreal atmosphere. “I feel like this entire show is a Banksy!” a confused Jon Stewart suggested. Nikki Glaser perhaps explained it best, by telling Mulaney, “It’s like an inside joke that only you are in on.”

Stephen Colbert’s bandleader is giving the Late Show host the gift of music as he celebrates a milestone birthday.
Born in 1964, Colbert turns 60 today. To mark the occasion, Late Show Band bandleader Louis Cato posted a special performance of one Colbert’s favorite songs. As part of his weekly #CatoCover series on Instagram, Cato performed a rooftop acoustic rendition of Glen Campbell’s “Wichita Lineman.”
Colbert will be spending the landmark birthday at work, kicking off a week of new Late Show episodes. But he’ll be celebrating with old friends and heroes.
His guest tonight is Steve Carell, one of Colbert’s closest friends. The two came up together at The Second City in Chicago, and both went on to star in the short-lived The Dana Carvey Show. They then served as correspondents on Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show, overlapping from 1999-2005.

Jimmy Kimmel gave a hitchhiking Bruce Springsteen a lift—at least that’s what Kimmel’s daughter thought.
In an interview with Good Morning America today, Kimmel revealed the origins of Stewart’s surprise appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week, and his daughter’s reaction to the bit.
The pre-taped segment featured Kimmel and his wife—co-head writer and executive producer Molly McNearney—driving their kids Jane and Billy to school and picking up a hitchhiking Stewart along the way. The bit was a reference to a Jkl segment from six months ago, when Kimmel picked up Olivia Rodrigo, who his kids are huge fans of.
Unsurprisingly, they were less interested in carpooling with Stewart.
“We picked up Olivia Rodrigo, and then Jon called and said, ‘Wouldn’t it be fun if you picked me up and then the kids don’t know who I am?,’” Kimmel told GMA.

Seth Meyers isn’t going anywhere.
The Late Night host has extended his deal with NBCUniversal through 2028, the company announced Monday. Meyers, who skewered the network (among others) during NBCU’s upfront presentation Monday morning, will remain host of Late Night through 2028. Additionally, Meyers’ Sethmaker Shoemeyers production company has extended its deal with Universal Studio Group and will continue to create and develop scripted and unscripted programming for the company’s vast portfolio.
“Over the last 10 years, Seth has resonated with his audience night after night with a sharp monologue and established segments such as A Closer Look and Day Drinking,” said Katie Hockmeyer, executive vp late night programming at NBCUniversal Entertainment. “We’re so happy to continue this legacy franchise with Seth at the helm and watch him continue to elevate the success of Late Night.”

Fresh from skewering his employer, Seth Meyers has been rewarded with a new contract at NBC.
Meyers will continue to host Late Night with Seth Meyers through 2028 and has extended his overall deal with Universal Studio Group.
It comes three years after NBC struck a deal with the former SNL star and head writer to renew the show through 2025.
It means that there will be stability across late-night on NBC until at least 2026 after Jimmy Fallon extended his contract to host The Tonight Show in 2021.
Meyers is the latest late-night host to strike a new deal; John Oliver struck a deal in December to continue hosting Last Week Tonight through 2026, Stephen Colbert closed a new three-year deal for The Late Show on CBS last year and Jimmy Kimmel inked a three-year contract with ABC to keep hosting his eponymous show in 2022.

Seth Meyers has been an annual tradition at NBCUniversal’s Upfronts. Much like Jimmy Kimmel at the Disney event, Meyers loves to roast the television industry and his own employer.
This year was no different, taking shots at NBC, Peacock, Dick Wolf, Bravo star Tom Sandoval, and former ad chief Linda Yaccarino in a five-minute bit.
Check out the jokes below:
“Welcome to the NBCU Upfront. If you’re looking for the Fox News upfront, that’s happening outside a lower Manhattan courtroom.”
“What a joy to be back in Radio City; I asked an NBC executive ‘Why do you hole up here every year?’ and they said ‘I like looking at the marquee and thinking, sure, it’s a tricky time for TV, but it could be worse, we could be in radio’.”

Mark Consuelos made it through his 28th anniversary with Kelly Ripa and her birthday this year just fine, but it seems he floundered with his Mother’s Day offering.
The popular Live with Kelly and Mark star shared a photo of his wife, Kelly, and his mom, Camilla, on Instagram, but not without being blasted because of his choice of photo.
According to what Kelly revealed to Jimmy Kimmel recently on the show, Mark may be in the doghouse again.
Mark is no stranger to Kelly getting upset with him; he got into hot water last winter when he made fun of Kelly’s sleeping habits, as reported by Monsters and Critics.
This time, Jimmy Kimmel used Mark’s choice of a Mother’s Day photo as an example of what not to do for your wife or mom on Mother’s Day.

Seth Meyers had a relatively short set at Monday’s NBCUniversal upfront, but he still got his shots in. Like this one on NBCU competitor Paramount: “I found $20 on the street this morning,” Meyers said. “Long story short, I’m one of the two finalists [to buy] Paramount.”
We’re not sure the Paramount Global special committee is going to take that offer seriously — kind of like Byron Allen’s. See? We’ve got jokes too.
For real though, the two entities playing tug-of-war with Paramount are 1) David Ellison’s Skydance and 2) a Sony/Apollo Global Management contingent.
Meyers had a few punchlines chambered for his employer. Like this one, on NBCU streaming service Peacock: “Peacock continues to prove that the easiest way to make a billion dollars is to spend eight [billion].”
Peacock is not only (still) losing a ton of money, it has yet to reveal a profitable-by date; even Paramount+ has one of those.

Jimmy Kimmel is taking a break this week—from his show, that is. He’s still got work to do.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be airing repeats all week as its host travels to New York, where he’s scheduled to make his first-ever visit to Late Night With Seth Meyers tonight. He’s expected to appear at ABC’s upfront event tomorrow.
Kimmel will be back in the studio May 20th for just three days before going dark again for an extended Memorial Day weekend Thursday May 23rd through Tuesday May 28th.

Bert Kreischer made a joke involving his bag of nicotine patches during The Tom Brady Roast. Then it morphed into an accusation about cocaine, he told Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday, taking things into dangerous territory.
Kreischer had nicotine patches in a can in his pocket, but he was informed by the director of the roast that they were too distracting. “So I said, ‘Okay, and I put them in a little bag,'” he said. But that led ridicule by comedian Sam Jay.

He continued, “So, I went into my pocket and pulled out my nicotine patches and I just wiggled them.”

And from all accounts it did not go well for team Trump, as the defiant Daniels responded to Trump lawyer Susan Necheles’ predictable efforts at slut-shaming and her attempts to tar Daniels with being an attention and money-seeking opportunist with some unflappable comebacks worthy of what Jimmy Kimmel termed, “The Stormy Daniels Roast of Donald Trump’s Penis.”

On the set of Live with Kelly and Mark, Kelly Ripa seems unflappable, unless something really obvious goes wrong behind the scenes, but she usually embraces her anxiety and keeps her face neutral. Jon Stewart may only be hosting The Daily Show once a week, but when it comes to his beef with Arby’s, he’s all in.
Stewart has a long history of making Arby’s the butt of his jokes, dating back to his original tenure on The Daily Show. Where other brands might have sent “cease and desist” letters, Arby’s lapped up the free publicity, and ultimately took out ads on the show in response.
Now that Stewart is back hosting The Daily Show, it was probably only a matter of time before Arby’s would come up. This time, though, Jimmy Kimmel was the instigator.
Monday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! featured a pre-taped bit in which Kimmel picked up a hitchhiking Stewart and drove him to an Arby’s location in Hollywood.

Kim Kardashian made a lot of money with the Keeping Up with the Kardashians show on reality TV and her expensive outfit shocked and mortified fans who saw what she wore to the 2024 Met Gala. Of course, she shocked people in the past, but this time, some people think she went over the top and looked likely to pass out.
Kim Kardashian Stunned Reality TV Fans
Two years ago, Kim lost a lot of weight to be able to fit into Marilyn Monroe’s gold Jean Louis dress at the Met Gala. In fact, there were some observations that the reality TV star might have damaged the custom-made dress. If you don’t know, she borrowed the gown from Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! stock. Perhaps that’s why this year, she wore a dress by John Galliano.

Nikki Glaser has been praised for her set during Netflix’s Tom Brady roast, but it wasn’t all smiles for her.
The comedian stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday to promote her upcoming special, Someday You’ll Die. Before chatting about the HBO project, the late night host added to the compliments for Glaser, noting that she was “fantastic.”
“The rest of the roast I got called some pretty awful things,” she said. “It makes you question your life and your looks and all that stuff.” “Does it, though? Does it really?” Jimmy Kimmel asked, to which she responded, “It does sink in.”
The two went back and forth discussing if the host and comedian is also affected by some of the comments said during a roast, and he said he is a little bit sometimes. But he pointed out that Glaser gets the “dumbest” jokes about her,...

Jimmy Kimmel had Seth Meyers on his show last month, and now Meyers is repaying the favor.
For the first time ever, Jimmy Kimmel will appear as a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers next Monday, May 13th.
Kimmel has plenty of projects to promote. In addition to Jimmy Kimmel Live, he’s an executive producer on the Hulu reality series High Times, and he’ll host the newly revived celebrity primetime edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire this summer.
Plus, with Kimmel’s recent mention in former President Donald Trump’s ongoing criminal trial, one imagines the two will have a lot to talk about.
The pair appearing on each other’s shows comes after last year’s Strike Force Five podcast solidified bonds between each of the five major late-night hosts: Kimmel, Meyers, John Oliver, Jimmy Fallon, and Stephen Colbert.

There are some moments when we all want to get some comfort in our lives and seek nostalgia. That is when the TV shows and movies from our childhood come into play. But while some of them have aged well and are still just as funny and heartwarming, others will only bring disappointment.
This list may seem perfect for any 80's and 90's kid, but if you take a closer look, you'll realize that none of these shows are actually good by today's standards.
Baywatch (1989-2001)
To say that Baywatch was bad would not even be a controversial opinion or a hot take. Despite its longevity, the only thing the show could rely on was the good looks of its cast, which is why it was so overly sexualized. The creators must have hoped to hide the lousy production and all the plot holes behind a bunch of conveniently attractive people.

The offices of Jimmy Kimmel Live! must be abuzz today.
For the second time in less than a week, Jimmy Kimmel and his late-night show were brought up in former President Donald Trump’s ongoing hush money trial.
Stormy Daniels took the stand at Trump’s trial today, where she was asked during her testimony about her January 2018 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
It was in that interview that Kimmel brought up a letter Daniels had allegedly signed denying she had an affair with Trump. When Kimmel asked whether the signature was authentic, Daniels gave a cagey reply that implied that it wasn’t.
Kimmel’s interview was first brought up in court on May 2nd when the prosecution entered into evidence text messages that Trump’s then-attorney Michael Cohen sent to Stormy Daniels’ lawyer Keith Davidson. In the texts, Cohen reacted with concern to Daniels’ appearance on Kimmel’s show.

For those who were wondering, “Where in the world is Jon Stewart?” when tuning in to Monday’s The Daily Show (which was hosted by correspondent Jordan Klepper), viewers only had to tune in to Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Stewart, who has been behind the desk at the Comedy Central staple on Mondays for two months, took the night off the desk for the Netflix Is a Joke festival happening in Los Angeles. On Friday, he headlined at The Greek Theatre for his “Jon Stewart and Friends” show, which saw him bring out Jimmy Kimmel, Sarah Silverman and Mike Birbiglia as special guests. Stewart is also slated to be a guest on John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in L.A. on Netflix this week, a set of live talk shows that are part of the streamer’s fest.
While in L.A., Stewart also decided to spend time with Kimmel and his family,...
