Gawker media has filed two motions appealing a jury's decision to award $140 million last month to Hulk Hogan after the website posted portions of a sex tape involving the wrestler. "There is substantial evidence that, in reaching its verdict as to both liability and damages, the jury was guided by passion and prejudice, rather than the pertinent facts and the law," states Gawker's court papers, which were obtained by People. A St. Petersburg, Florida, jury awarded Hogan $115 in compensatory damages plus an additional $25.1 in punitive damages. Hogan, 62, whose real name is Terry Bollea, claimed his privacy was violated when Gawker...

The Florida jury that awarded Hulk Hogan $115 million in his civil suit against Gawker Media, and a further $25.1 million in punitive damages, are standing behind their courtroom decision. "There's absolutely no doubt that the decision we made was absolutely correct," Shane O'Neill, one of the six jurors, told ABC News on Thursday. Gawker released nine seconds of a sex tape featuring Hogan and his former best friend's then-wife Heather Clem, in 2012. During the high-profile trial, Hogan, 62, testified that he didn't know the sexual liaison was being taped. Gawker's lawyers countered that the tape was newsworthy, as Hogan openly discussed his...

The co-creator of new CBS legal drama The Defenders has revealed that he wants Dan Aykroyd to appear on the show. Kevin Kennedy told The Hollywood Reporter that he is keen for Aykroyd to reunite with series star Jim Belushi. The pair toured as the Blues Brothers throughout the '90s after Belushi's brother John starred alongside Aykroyd in the 1980 film of the same name. "We have a lot planned and we certainly have a dream list [of guest stars]," explained Kennedy. "We want to get Dan Aykroyd together with Jim." However, (more)...

Welcome to your Monday morning television briefing. Variety's Robert Abele has a very interesting feature on the future of serialized programming, following the conclusion of Lost and 24 (and the narrative burn-out of ABC's FlashForward and NBC's Heroes) last season. Abele talks to AOL Television's Maureen Ryan, NBC's Laura Lancaster, and The Event executive produce Evan Katz about viewer fatigue, commitment, and concerns. "Viewer trust is something you earn by delivering -- it's that simple," said Katz. "It's not easy to accomplish, but when it works, you have something big on your hands... This show is very Hitchcockian in that it's an ordinary man in extraordinary circumstances, and you experience the twists emotionally with him," said Katz. "We don't have 660 beats laid out," Katz says, "but you need to know where the characters are going, and those benchmarks are in place. The line is, mystery is good, confusion is bad." (Variety...

Could CBS's 'The Defenders' get the Blues Brothers back together? If producers have their way ... sort of.
The Jim Belushi legal drama has its eyes on former 'Saturday Night Live' star Dan Aykroyd. According to the Hollywood Reporter, 'Defenders' co-creator and executive producer Kevin Kennedy has been circling Aykroyd to play a tough judge that clashes with Belushi's defense attorney.
"We have a lot planned and we certainly have a dream list," Kennedy told the Hollywood Reporter. "The [guest star] we've talked about most recently, and we'll see if we can get it arranged -- it's a scheduling thing and it wouldn't happen until the end of the year if it happens this year -- we want to get Dan Aykroyd together with Jim."

Ready for a "Blues Brothers" reunion? CBS' upcoming rookie legal drama "The Defenders" certainly is, according to co-creator/executive producer Kevin Kennedy.
The creative team behind the series, in which Jerry O'Connell and Jim Belushi play Las Vegas defense attorneys, has eyes on Dan Aykroyd to guest star as a tough judge who clashes with Belushi's unorthodox lawyer.
"We have a lot planned and we certainly have a dream list," Kennedy told THR on Friday at the Paley Center's CBS Fall TV preview night in Beverly Hills.
