For the past several weeks, the conservative media has taken a sudden interest in meticulously tracking firearm purchases, as long as they're made by the spouse of a gun violence survivor. Breitbart News has put out over a dozen stories accusing Mark Kelly of lying about gun purchases he says he made in order to prove a point, and Fox News "hard news" personalities Megyn Kelly and Trace Gallagher played along. Now that Kelly has published irrefutable proof of his claim, Breitbart News and Fox News have suddenly fallen silent about Mark Kelly's purchases.

The right-wing media has been engaged in an attempt to smear retired astronaut Mark Kelly, husband of former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords (D-az), as a hypocrite for purchasing an Ar-15 last week. On Fox News' America Live Tuesday, host Megyn Kelly and reporter Trace Gallagher expanded on the right-wing smear by falsely citing an Arizona law about disposal of seized or found property.

Over the weekend, conservative websites like Breitbart.com and Michelle Malkin's site attacked retired astronaut Mark Kelly, husband of former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, over his recent purchase of a used Ar-15 assault weapon. On Monday afternoon's The Situation Room, Kelly told CNN's Wolf Blitzer why he purchased the gun, and said he didn't "know anything about who Breitbart is, or anything about his website," and that he planned all along to buy the weapon, and post about it on Facebook.

Former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-az), a victim of a mass shooting in 2011, and her husband, Mark Kelly, testified before a Congressional panel on gun violence on Wednesday. Kelly told the assembled members of Congress that gun ownership is a responsibility that Americans have not taken seriously by safeguarding society with laws that curtail needless death. He said that modern weapons “have turned every single corner of our society into places of carnage and gross human loss.”...

So brave. Gabby will come face to face with her shooter for the first time since the tragic supermarket incidence, as he is due to be sentenced. On Nov. 8, former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords will face the man who shot her in the head, as Jared Lee Loughner stands trial for the crime he committed back in Jan. 2011. Jared pleaded guilty to the shooting that left six people dead, and he has organized a deal that ensures he will not get the death penalty. Gabby was one of the 19 people Jared shot when he open fired in a Tucson, Ariz., supermarket last year, and she has since had a very long road to recovery. After spending several months in a hospital, she was moved to a recovery center. She only has 50 percent of vision in her eyes, and her speech is impaired, but overall she has made a remarkable recovery.

The Duplass brother.s films are never made with a huge budget or a lot of fanfare, but they do a great job of showing poignant moments in everyday life, as well as portraying weird familial relationships. The shakeups at News Limited’s magazine and lifestyle arm NewsLifeMedia have continued with GQ editor Nick Smith promoted into a new role of publisher of the company’s home and lifestyle group.
Smith will be responsible for GQ Australia, Australian Golf Digest, Big League, Country Style, Vogue Living, Gardening Australia, InsideOut and homelife.com.au.
Smith’s promotion came after new boss Nicole Sheffield axed lifestyle group editor Mark Kelly and Richard Waller of Inside Out. Smith will also remain as editor-in-chief of GQ, which has a bimonthly print edition.
Smith said: “Times are tough, and we’ve got some work to do but we can be comforted in the fact that the Australian passion to live an enriched life never ceases. If we work to deliver the best lifestyle content to our audience in the way that they want it delivered, then we can’t fail.”

Nicole Sheffield: making changes
In what could prove to be the biggest senior editorial changes in magazine publishing all year, the new boss of News Limited‘s expanded lifestyle publishing Nicole Sheffield has announced the departure of Vogue Australia’s editor-in-chief Kirstie Clements, lifestyle group editor Mark Kelly and editor of home and lifestyle title InsideOut, Richard Waller.
Sheffield is just two months into her role as boss of NewsLifeMedia.
Rival title Harper’s Bazaar editor Edwina McCann is to step into the role of Vogue editor. Clement had held the post for 13 years.
McCann moves to Vogue Australia in July, after three years at Acp Magazines high end fashion title Harper’s Bazaar. Harper’s recently announced its new deputy editor was Georgie McCourt-Abay, who had previously worked at Vogue Australia.

Jay and Mark Duplass hold a special place in the heart of many Austinites. This is why it was only fitting that their long delayed yet highly anticipated film The Do-Deca Pentathlon would have its world premiere at this year’s South by Southwest. A film that has been in some form of production for several years (before shooting began on Cyrus), it was a great treat to have the final cut finally available for audience viewing.
Mark (Steve Zissis) and Jeremy (Mark Kelly) are brothers with a life-long history of competition. In 1990 they conceive a game of sorts they call the Do-Deca Pentathlon, a series of 25 competitive events to ultimately prove one’s superiority over the other. An unfortunate circumstance leads to victory for Jeremy and the rivalry continues to present day. Jeremy has become a single professional poker player while Mark has stayed traditional with a beautiful wife,...

Brothers Mark and Jay Duplass may have gone to the proverbial dark side as studio filmmakers, but "The Do Deca Pentathlon" is a welcome reminder of their origins. Shot after their last low-budget effort, "Baghead," but shelved while the directors worked on the star-studded "Cyrus" and "Jeff, Who Lives at Home," the now-completed movie showcases their trademark ability to blend naturalism with slapstick comedy by rooting it in a charmingly understated story that's beside the point. Although it assumes a light, inoffensive tone, "Do Deca" is unquestionably the brothers' most personal film by virtue of its antiheroes, a pair of warring siblings seemingly inspired by the directors themselves. Their names imply as much: Mark ("Baghead" star Steve Zissis) and Jeremy (Mark Kelly) lead two very separate lives, as the neurotic Mark tries to make do with his low-key suburban life alongside wife Stephanie (Jennifer...

It’s always important to keep in mind, while reading reviews, that interpreting art is a deeply personal experience. What might speak to someone on a visceral, emotional level will slide right over another’s head. Or anger them. Or bore them to tears. The third option was the experience of this writer with Mark and Jay Duplass’ “Do-Deca Pentathlon.” It's not their latest effort, but a lost feature that was made before their mainstream studio debut, "Cyrus," so 'Do Deca' falls more in line with their earlier films' aesthetic. If there even is an aesthetic to be found.
"Do-Deca Pentathlon" concerns two middle aged brothers Mark (Steve Zissis) and Jeremy (Mark Kelly), estranged for many years after a disastrous high school pentathlon resulted in a draw. Both men are pathologically competitive, and Jeremy now lives in Las Vegas as a poker player, while Mark has a wife and son and normal job.

Some dealmaking has gone down over the past 24 hours, with a handful of indie movies now finding homes and plotting their ways to a screen near you.
First up, the long-shelved Duplass Bros. project "Do-Deca Pentathlon" finally has a home at Fox Searchlight. Production on the film took place back in 2008, but when "Cyrus" got going, post-production was delayed, and the feature's been sitting in a drawer ever since. Starring Steve Zissis, Mark Kelly and Jennifer Lafleur, the story follows two competitive brothers who, during a family reunion, set up a 25-event private Olympics. It sounds great, perfectly in the unique sphere where the Duplass brothers operate, and it's one our most anticipated films at SXSW. With Fox Searchlight nabbing it, the buzz is only sure to increase.

Kelly wrote in a new book that the former Alaska governor never reached out to them. "We were never contacted by her," Kelly said. "I find that extraordinary," Morgan exclaimed. "Yeah, I was surprised too," Kelly replied. "You know, certainly the targets that she put over Gabby's and other people's districts, in our opinion, was not the right thing to do. Mark Kelly, husband of Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, appeared Tuesday night on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" to discuss the book that he and his wife wrote, "Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope."
Speaking about the book, Stewart asked Kelly, "Is it therapeutic to write this after having gone through what you guys went through over the past year?" Kelly responded, "It is, it's sometimes hard though. You know we, especially on the weekends when I'd spend a lot of time with her going over it, it's hard to relive some of the stuff, some of the parts. We'd sometimes have to take a break from it, but I think the whole experience for both of us was generally pretty positive."
Stewart also brought up a "20/20" special that aired Monday night on ABC. The special, which includes an interview with Kelly and Giffords, also includes video footage documenting Giffords' recovery.

After surviving a shooting rampage in January, Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords sat down with her husband Mark Kelly for an interview with Diane Sawyer on '20/20' (Mon., 10Pm Et on ABC). While she's made remarkable progress, and looked happy and confident, it was clear that Giffords still has a long way to go.
While her mind clearly knows how she'd have liked to respond to Sawyer's questions, often those responses came in short phrases or repeated words. The word she attributed to her husband Mark, who's been by her side every day, was "brave." He, however, turned the word right back around, attributing it to her.

Amazingly, when Sawyer asks how she feels, Giffords replies "Pretty good!"
The special also includes some of the many hours of footage recorded by Kelly in hospital during his wife's long ordeal and rehabilitation. The footage documents landmark highs, such as her first words, and lows, like the discovery of what happened that fateful day in Tuscon. It also includes interviews with Giffords' closest confidants, including her mother, who says "I think Gabby now has a message that exceeds the political one."
