Guy takes a belated look at the fourth (but possibly not final) film in the Lethal Weapon franchise…
Spoilers lie ahead for Lethal Weapons 2 to 4.

At the beginning of 2016, Den of Geek gave me the opportunity to rank the Lethal Weapon films in order of merit and then write about each one individually. This made me very happy, as it is a franchise for which I have a great deal of passion – both positive and negative. But like a reluctant hit man stuck in a clichéd redemption arc, I just couldn’t finish the job.
By the time I had produced a well-reasoned account of why the third in the series was objectively the worst – an assertion I still stand by, despite what you’re about to read...

With Justin Kurzel’s new movie in the works, will Australia’s favourite villain finally get the film treatment he deserves?
The quest to make a great Ned Kelly movie has consumed Australian film-makers since the dawn of cinema, even playing a part in the formation of the medium itself: 1906’s The Story of the Kelly Gang was not only Australia’s first ever feature film, but the first made anywhere in the world.
Since then, the legendary bushranger’s cinematic journey has proven long and chequered, but enters an exciting new phase with South Australia-born director Justin Kurzel’s adaptation of Peter Carey’s critically acclaimed novel True History of the Kelly Gang, which begins shooting in Victoria in March.

For me, your performance in Snowtown was the most exciting breakout male performance since Michael Fassbender in Hunger. Why aren.t you getting as many lead roles as Fassbender?
(Laughs) Thanks mate. The first few years after [Snowtown] I kind of feared the work because of the expectation that I put on myself, and I had led myself to believe that everyone was thinking that. I didn.t want to mess with that performance. It was seen as something — maybe a significant contribution to film in recent years, or whatever. And I was so afraid that I wouldn.t get close to that ever again. So I didn.t work a lot the first couple of years. Prior to Snowtown, I.d usually been cast as the likable loser. So in the beginning it was hard for people to place me or know what to do with me, and [that] probably went...

Assassin’s Creed’s Justin Kurzel talks PG-13 violence, filming the leap of faith and, um, Step Brothers...
Australian director Justin Kurzel made a big splash on the indie circuit with his based-on-a-true-story murder spree drama Snowtown back in 2011. Michael Fassbender was impressed when he saw it, and ended up working with Kurzel on his 2015 Macbeth movie.
The Fass must’ve been impressed again when they filmed it, as he soon recruited Kurzel to direct Assassin’s Creed, the videogame flick that Fassbender had been producing for years and was set to star in (playing dual roles as modern day death row inmate Cal and his Spanish assassin ancestor Aguilar).
Kurzel and Fassbender also reteamed with their Lady Macbeth, Marion Cotillard, for the game adaptation (she plays an employee of megacorporation Abstergo Industries, the company that sends Cal back into his ancestor's shoes), resulting in an action...

Quentin Tarantino was out charming Sydney media people last week ahead of the release of "The Hateful Eight" in Australia. Whilst most grilled him on the violent western, So Is It Any Good took the initiative - asking him if his use of the Jim Jones Botany Bay song indicated he would be interested in doing a film about Australia's own violent history.
Tarantino then revealed that while he had no interest in doing an Australian western about figures like Ned Kelly or Australian frontiersman, he does have an idea for an Australian-set 1930s "Bonnie and Clydish-story" about some outlaws. He adds that it's a project he thinks about every time he visits Australia. You can see the full interview below:...

With his gritty, grim adaptation of the Bard’s classic Macbeth earning rapturous praise in the build-up to its anticipated fall bow, director Justin Kurzel is on the cusp of a major breakthrough. He’ll follow up that award-tipped drama with a blockbuster, reteaming with stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard for Assassin’s Creed, and the helmer is also plotting thriller Haven. Today, Kurzel is reported to be gearing up for yet another project – this time a Western of sorts about a legendary outlaw.
A story from If reveals that Kurzel is signing on to direct an adaptation of Peter Carey’s Booker Prize winning novel The True History Of The Kelly Gang, about Australian outlaw Ned Kelly. He’s teaming up with his Snowtown Murders scribe for the pic, which is just the latest in a string of movies centering on the near-mythic historical figure (Heath Ledger and...

Part I. Anger, Suez and Archie Rice
“There they are,” George Devine told John Osborne, surveying The Entertainer‘s opening night audience. “All waiting for you…Same old pack of c***s, fashionable assholes. Just more of them than usual.” The Royal Court had arrived: no longer outcasts, they were London’s main attraction.
Look Back in Anger vindicated Devine’s model of a writer’s-based theater. Osborne’s success attracted a host of dramatists to Sloane Square. There’s Shelagh Delaney, whose A Taste of Honey featured a working-class girl pregnant from an interracial dalliance; Harold Pinter’s The Room, a bizarre “comedy of menace”; and John Arden’s Serjeant Musgrave’s Dance, which aimed a Gatling gun at its audience. Devine encouraged them, however bold or experimental. “You always knew he was on the writer’s side,” Osborne said.

Wolf Creek and Django Unchained.s John Jarratt has written and plans to star in an Aussie comedy Western.
The title, Passing Winds, epitomises the irreverent approach. That's the name of a cattle property owned by Jarratt.s character. Craig McLachlan has agreed to play the bad guy who aims to gain control of the land which is rich in untapped gold. Steve Bisley will play a bounty hunter.
Jarratt describes the tone as a cross between Blazing Saddles and Crocodile Dundee. He will produce the film with Kris Maric and Craig Kocinski, his partners in production company Ozpix Entertainment.
No director has yet been signed but Jarratt would love to hire someone of the calibre of Mel Gibson, having admired his work in the Richard Donner-directed Maverick opposite Jodie Foster-- although he doubts Mel would be willing to spend six months in Oz working on the film.

The New Year is a time to look forward at all the exciting things that are coming ahead, but is also a time of loss. That loss, of course, is with Netflix, as the streaming service will be saying goodbye to a number of previously-available TV shows and movies.
Since Netflix no longer advertises when various titles in its library are expiring, one Reddit thread (via Vulture) collected them for your pleasure. It's worth noting that some of these titles may not permanently disappear, and might return as soon as a day or several hours after being removed as per Netflix's contract agreements.
Fortunately for all your TV-loving folks out there, not many television shows are being removed. The ones on the chopping block are "The Kids in the Hall," the original "Dark Shadows," "Mr. Bean," "Saturday Night Live The 2000s" and "Perfect 10 Model Boxing: Vol. 1." So if any of...

The long and the short of it is Wonder Woman will be in 2015's "Batman vs. Superman." Or she won't. And for the time being, the studio behind the film is better off not saying anything one way or the other.

Mark Twain meets Sam Peckinpah in Jeff Nichols's exhilarating coming-of-age movie
In the early 1930s, during a lengthy safari in Tanganyika Territory, Ernest Hemingway broke off a discussion of antelope hunting to provide a German expatriate with a disquisition on American literature from colonial times to the present. During this little lecture, included in his Green Hills of Africa, Hemingway made one of his most famous statements. "All American literature," he claims, "comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn. If you read it you must stop where the Nigger Jim is stolen from the boys. That is the real end. The rest is just cheating. But it's the best book we have. All American writing comes from that. There was nothing before. There has been nothing as good since."
