In India, two of the most well-known Tamil actors are Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. But not many in the North, West and East of India would know that there are other stars who not only command a insanely big fan-following, but are literally worshipped by their fans.
Two such stars, who belong to the younger generation (compared to the likes of Rajnikanth and Kamal Hassan) are Vijay, fondly called ‘thalapathi’ by his fans, and Ajith, who his fans like to call ‘thala’.Read More

There are movie stars and then there are Movie Stars, and on some level beyond the latter, there exists Superstar Rajinikanth. For nearly forty years, this former bus conducter has inspired almost religious devotion from his fans both inside and away from his home territory in Tamil Nadu, India. Director Rinku Kalsy explores the cult of Rajinikanth fandom in For the Love of a Man and discovers that sometimes the adoration that his fans point outward may be better focused back at their own lives. In Tamil Nadu, most of the big male movie stars have honorific nicknames. You've got Ilayathalapathy (Young General) Vijay, you've got Thala (Leader) Ajith, Chiyyan (a character's name in an early film) Vikram, Captain Vijayakanth, Ulaganayagan (Universal Hero) Kamal Hassan,...

India's most celebrated actor has had a very busy year, and it isn't over yet. Kamal Hassan is one of the elder statesmen of Tamil language cinema, though he's been active in most of India's regional cinemas and Bollywood for well over 40 years. This year has marked the return of a working man, with Hassan either releasing or in active production on four films before the end of 2015. First there was Utthama Villain, a passion project over a decade in the making, then there was Papanasam, a remake of super hit Malayalam film Drishyam (also recently remade in Bollywood), and now there is Thoongavanam, which puts a gun in Hassan's hands and lets him loose. He may not look like an action star to Western...

Akshara Hassan surprised everyone by making her presence felt in R. Balki’s soon-to-release Shamitabh. While the whole nation was under the impression that the younger daughter of Sarika and Kamal Hassan was more inclined to direction than acting, it was a rather pleasant surprise to see Akshara facing the camera for the very first time.
When quizzed Akshara about how she landed up getting this role, she revealed that she never had to audition for it and R. Balki approached her out of the blue. She says, “Balki Sir and I met at a function, and he came up to me ‘Hi Akshara, can I talk to you for 5 mins?'” While Akshara got excited thinking that’s she might get the opportunity to assist the maestro before he revealed that she has been approached to play a character in his upcoming film. Quite stunned by the question, Akshara excitedly heard the script.

Many trade analysts expressed their disappointment over the fact that one of the top 100 crore club actors of Bollywood, Ajay Devgn will not be seen on the silverscreen in 2015, but now, we hear that there has been a twist in the tale. Ajay Devgn's debut directorial and much ambitious project Shivaay has been postponed which has given way to other big commercial films that the actor was supposed to lead - Drishyam remake to be directed by Nishikant Kamat and Milan Luthria's Baadshaho. Though the unit of Shivaay had already taken off to Canada for a brief recee and to complete the initial stages of production, it was the weather which played a spoil sport. Apparently, we hear that Ajay Devgn had picturised a certain kind of snowfall in mind for the film but he was upset when things didn't turn out the way he planned and hence...

To celebrate the release of the much anticipated film Shamitabh, BollySpice managed to catch up with two of the leading stars, Dhanush and Akshara Hassan. Both the lovely actors spoke about the film, their experiences of working on the project and how they hope it will be received out upon release. Enjoy!
Q: What was your reaction when you first heard the script?
Akshara: I’ll tell you how I got the script actually. I remember there was a function with Balki Sir and he said to me ‘Akshara do you have 5 minutes to spare?’ And I said ‘of course’ and I was really excited. So he said to me ‘I have this film I am making and there is this character I have you in mind for.’ And I said ‘are you serious’ and was thinking in my mind ‘oh my gosh’ and this is a real honour.

To kick start the album we have Ishq-e-Phillum by Suraj Jagan. I like how the song starts off with some wonderful playing of the piano that gives it an intense feel. However, soon after the song just falls flat and I found it to be an overall bore. This is...
