In her new role, Kristin Jones will focus on identifying potential international scripted projects, including co-productions, format adaptations, series and limited-series acquisitions, AMC said today. New York -- Miramax Films has acquired North American and Western European rights (excluding Spain) to Scott Hicks' drama "The Boys Are Back," starring Clive Owen.
In Allan Cubitt's adaptation of Simon Carr's seriocomic novel "The Boys Are Back in Town," Owen plays a widower struggling to raise his two sons. Laura Fraser and Emma Booth also star.
Greg Brenman ("Billy Elliot") and Tim White ("Out of the Blue") are producing the film, which begins principal photography today in Australia.
"I had been wanting to continue the relationship with Scott Hicks I had started so long ago on 'Shine,' " Miramax president Daniel Battsek said. "Once Clive signed on, all of the pieces fell into place."
Miramax senior vp Kristin Jones and vp Peter Lawson brought the project to the studio. Jones will oversee production. Executive vp Michael Luisi and vp Peter McPartlin negotiated on the studio's behalf.
