The children of Steve Marriott, along with his bandmates and fellow rock legends, are fighting against the potential release of recordings featuring new AI-generated versions of the late singer’s vocals.
According to Variety, the recordings were authorized by Marriott’s third wife, Toni Marriott, to whom the rock icon was married to for only two years before he tragically died in a fire at age 44 in 1991.
Steve’s daughter Mollie, on behalf of her siblings, has issued a statement decrying the potential release of these AI-generated recordings. Her stance has been endorsed by Small Faces’ Kenney Jones and Humble Pie’s Peter Frampton and Jerry Shirley, along with such legends as Robert Plant, David Gilmour, Bryan Adams, Paul Weller, Paul Rodgers, and others.
The statement reads as follows:
“The Marriott Estate is due to release an AI solo album of old and new songs of my father, Steve. Sadly,...

Surviving Faces members Rod Stewart, Ron Wood, and Kenney Jones have reformed to record new songs, according to a new interview with Wood in The Times. The trio has reunited for a handful of brief live appearances in recent years, but there hasn’t been a new Faces album since 1973’s Ooh La La. A spokesperson for Stewart did not immediately respond to Rolling Stones’ request for comment.
The Faces broke up in 1975 due to Stewart’s success as a solo act. Guitarist Wood joined the Rolling Stones later that year,...

This week, the Who released a limited edition can of Heinz Beanz as they prepare to reissue The Who Sell Out. “I don’t know anybody who doesn’t like Heinz Beanz,” Roger Daltrey said in the press release, who famously sat in a bathtub of beans on 1967 cover. “They’re so simple; you put your eggs on, you put your toast on, you click your toaster, you time your eggs, and you put the beans in a pan, and it all comes together all in one lump. It’s great.

A few years after he discovered he had multiple sclerosis, Small Faces and Faces bassist Ronnie Lane put together a charity concert that was a bit of a coup: He managed to unite the three most famous guitarists who played in the Yardbirds at different times onstage for the first time — Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page.
At the concert, which took place at London’s Royal Albert Hall on September 20th, 1983 and was dubbed A.R.M.S. – Action into Research for Multiple Sclerosis – they each played solo...

There was honesty in the air on Wednesday night.
Phil Collins, ’80s icon and former Genesis frontman, proved he can be painfully honest about the more taboo subjects from his highly public life, and still toss out jokes like Halloween candy.
Dressed in a zip-up hoodie, dark jeans, sneakers and sporting a fedora, Collins addressed some of the boldest revelations from his new memoir, Not Dead Yet, to a crowd of fans in New York City.
“I’m a person who bears a lot of guilt,” Collins told interviewer, columnist journalist Anthony Mason. But, beyond this type of soulful declaration,...

BBC Three put Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding’s wilfully shambolic live act and radio series, The Mighty Boosh, on TV…
Part of The Mighty Boosh’s delight comes from its unlikelihood as a TV sitcom. Its boundless Day-Glo imagination isn’t an immediate fit with the constraints of the form. A sunshine simpleton and his awkward, jazz-obsessed colleague meet mythic monsters and talking animals while performing expertly observed musical parody? It’s not exactly My Family.
As comedian, writer, and director of Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding’s 1999 Edinburgh show Arctic Boosh, Stewart Lee, put it, “No television exec would ever have gone ‘What we need is a kind of purple head with tentacles coming out of it which speaks like a member of the Small Faces’”.
And yet a television exec did. Granted, probably not in those exact words. After Danny Wallace opened the door...

Swaggering '70s rockers the Faces will reunite, appropriately enough, at a benefit show for a British prostate-cancer charity. That's according to Rod Stewart, who announced on his website today a reunion concert with former bandmates Ronnie Wood and Kenney Jones, to take place at a Surrey polo club September 5. (You can buy tickets here.) It's a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the band's breakup, which seems like a curious date to commemorate, but we'll go with it. The reunion lineup will be without original members Ronnie Lane and Ian McLagan, who died in 1997 and 2014, respectively; as Stewart wrote, "We'll raise a glass to them."...

Widely viewed as one British rock’s ‘golden trinity’ along with Rolling Stones and The Beatles, The Who have had a massive influence on many of our modern day rock bands. They have an output most can only dream of, ranging from being a singles band early on, to producing the great sprawling concept albums such as ‘Quadrophenia’ and ‘Tommy’.
The four original band members are some of the most talented musicians on Earth. Roger Daltrey has an incredibly powerful voice, Pete Townshend is one the greatest songwriters of all time, all the while bassist John Entwistle and drummer Keith Moon are often viewed as the very best at their respective instruments. The songs vary from moving, quiet ballads to thumping , snarling and majestic rock anthems.
The albums of The Who cover a great range and this list will attempt to put some sort of definitive ranking for each of them.

Park Chan-wook's Stoker is another showcase for the former grebo-rocker turned moody soundtrack specialist
Hollywood discovered Clint Mansell in 2010, the year he turned 47. Black Swan, director Darren Aronofsky's psychodrama of a ballerina driven to the brink of sanity, was every bit the outlier its title suggested, vaulting its $13m budget to take more than $300m worldwide. Key to the film's ratcheting tension was Mansell's score, which radically reworked Tchaikovsky's famous ballet. "Motörhead," wrote the Guardian's Peter Bradshaw, "could not have played the Swan Lake theme any louder than this." Mansell received a Grammy nomination for Best Film Score, only to lose out to The King's Speech.
Mansell and Aronofsky have shared a fruitful creative relationship since the latter's directorial debut, 1996's Pi, but Black Swan's startling numbers meant that suddenly, all sorts of offers were on the table. It was then that Clint Mansell decided to take a bit of time off.

It isn’t very often that one of the very finest drummers in all of pop/rock drops by into your sleepy little town to open up a community garden, but that’s precisely what happened today in my hometown of Rawtenstall.
Fair enough, very few of you are likely to have heard of this town, but the majority of you will have heard of Bobby Elliott, drummer of legendary band The Hollies from the 1960′s onward. Not an original member of the bands lineup (Elliott replaced Don Rathbone as the groups drummer after a few single releases), he has recorded with almost no other band since joining in 1963.
Elliott was born in the same hometown as myself, Burnley, in 1941 and discovered jazz from a very early age. A self-taught drummer, he realised he wanted to play the drums from the age of 10, and practiced with homemade brushes and sticks,...

Whenever depression looms for Joe Queenan, it's time to turn to Johnny Hallyday. What is it about the films of the French Elvis Presley that holds the answer to all life's woes?

Pete Townshend, The Feeling and Boy George were part of a star-studded line up that rocked the Royal Albert Hall for The Prince’s Trust Rock Gala supported by Novae.
The music extravaganza, hosted by Edith Bowman and Patrick Kielty, raised vital funds – and the roof – for the youth charity’s vital work with disadvantaged young people. The fundraiser comes in the wake of news that more than a million 16 to 24 year-olds are out of work, the highest number since records began in 1992.
A long list of Prince’s Trust supporters performed at the Rock Gala – the tenth in The Trust’s history – including singer songwriters Chris De Burgh, Nik Kershaw, Julian Lennon, Cerys Matthews, Alison Moyet and Joss Stone , rock legends Kenney Jones, Mark King and Midge Ure, urban saxophonist YolanDa Brown, classical music star Charlie Siem and comedian and musician Tim Minchin.

The Beastie Boys continue to fight for their right to party. Or, more specifically, the chance to celebrate at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The trio is just one of several artists who have been nominated, once again, for induction into the Rock Hall's class of 2012. They join previous nominees including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Donna Summer, Laura Nyro, Donovan and War. So which acts are first-time nominees? Well, that would include Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Heart, Rufus with Chaka Khan, the Cure, the Small Faces/the Faces, Freddie King, the Spinners and Guns N' Roses. To be eligible for inclusion in the Rock Hall's 27th annual ceremony, all nominees must have released their first...

One defined rock in the 1980s and early 1990s, and the other's biggest hit name-calls the genre. Those might be some reasons why Guns N' Roses and Joan Jett are among the leading nominees for this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2012.
In addition to the Axl Rose-led group and the woman who made "I Love Rock 'n Roll" a rallying cry, other first-time nominees who could take the podium at the April 14, 2012, induction ceremony at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio, include legendary mope rockers the Cure, sister act Heart, hip-hop icons Eric B. & Rakim, classic vocal group the Spinners, blues giant Freddie King, soul act Rufus with Chaka Khan and 1960s rockers the Small Faces/Faces.

Although proud of the films which portray my city's recurring themes of poverty, violence and deprivation, I occasionally yearn for something more uplifting
A chorus line of fluffers and panderers will gather this August, as they always do, at the Edinburgh International Film Festival to celebrate Kazimierz Lubanski's lost Warsaw arthouse études. Or perhaps it may be Igor Masopust's seminal, and rarely seen, Carpathian trilogie. But whichever it is, I will wonder, and not for the first time, when they will get round to assembling a retrospective on the emerging west of Scotland cinematic oeuvre which has been loosely christened Glasgow Noir by some and Clyde Mort by others.
Next week, I hope to view the latest work in this canon, Neds, by the gifted actor and director Peter Mullan. I'm told it is a gritty and visceral study on how ancient and tribal gang loyalties destroy the academic dream...

You might have called my little adventure today: "Opinionated man who likes movies and comics attends toy preview that thrills and baffles him." Literally, my first note is: "1:20 - 4 mins in - Star Wars - all these people are nerds - I'm way out of my geek depth. This feels like I'm a stockholder, but with more Star Wars references." My second note was: "People in suits don't get to make Star Wars jokes in a coy manner."If you've never been to a Toy Fair or a toy show of any kind, then we have that in common. This presentation, though not something for the general public, was for media and toy collectors, an eclectic mix that found me sitting with my fellow movie bloggers, while the row behind me tittered that they will finally have more points of articulation on the next wave of vintage Ewok toys.

"Made in Dagenham" is based on the true story about working class women fighting for equal pay with "one foot in the kitchen, one foot on the factory floor" in 1960's England. One of those feel good equal rights flicks with lots of empowering dick jokes that I'd probably never go and see -- but it has a killer soundtrack.
Among the 17 tracks that inspire the working girls, lead by Sally Hawkins, to stick it to the man are oldies by James Brown, The Kinks, Small Faces, Dusty Springfield, The Troggs, and reggae genius Desmond Dekker. Not all of these appear to have made it into the film (comparing it to the press release from Sony Pictures reveals at least 6 tracks not in the film) and The Playlist points out that the album notes that it "features music from and inspired by the film." Last we heard, Marvel Studios big screen adaptation of Brian K Vaughan's Runaways was gearing up to begin production in March 2011 in Los Angeles (being produced under the fake production title "Small Faces", a reference to the 1960's-1970's English rock n roll band which had a song titled Runaways). We heard that Randi Hiller Casting and Sarah Finn Casting were searching for the boys and girls to be cast in the big screen movie, but we have yet to hear a single name... until now. It seems that Keke Palmer has been offered a role in the film. Thanks to /Film reader Bay R for the tip. The actress told Essence Magazine the following: I've had a nice little break with the steady TV show but I'm definitely ready to do some more films again. I was just asked to join a new Marvel comic project called, "Runaways." We...

- I love that Marvel's film of The Runaways comics is now apparently titled Small Faces. So instead of being confused with a band biopic that's already been made, it will be confused with a band biopic I wish would be made. Or it will be confused with an underrated Scottish film from the mid-90s. In any event, it's an odd change.

Update from Marvel Studios! Runaways will begin filming early next year, in March 2011, and it will take place in Los Angeles, California where the comic’s story is set.
Another information that we’re going to share with you right away is the rumor that the studio might change the title from Runaways to Small Faces. Question mark? Ok, let’s try to get some answer on that decision.
The best answer on that is the fact that guys from Marvel probably don’t want their film to get confused with that Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning movie that was based on the rock group of the same name – The Runaways.
But what’s the point in that Small Faces thing, we still have no idea, although, nothing is official yet.
Runaways or Small Faces centers on: “a group of teenagers who discover that their parents are an organized group...

Marvel Studios is prepping up to start shooting the comic book film adaptation of The Runaways. Production Weekly reports that the film has been given a start date of March 2011. They also reveal that the film will be shooting under the title Small Faces in Los Angeles.
Update: Marvel's “The Runaways” (aka "Small Faces"), is scheduled to begin filming in March in L.A.
Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist director Peter Sollett is the man who will develop the film based on the comic book created by Brian K. Vaughn. The comic was critically praised for its honest portrayal of teens and their issues and in 2006 won a Harvey Award for best series.

That’s according to Production Weekly, who tweeted a March 2011 start date for the film in Los Angeles. Pw have, in paranthesis, “aka “Small Faces” next to the title, which makes me wonder if that means the film is changing its title. Which would make sense, since “The Runaways” was already a 2010 movie starring Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart. You remember, the one about the chick rock band that no one saw? Yeah, that one. In any case, there was also this casting notice for “Runaways” aka “Small Faces”. Wanna get into acting, kids? Peter Sollett of “Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist” fame got the directing gig back in April, and “No Heroics” creator Drew Pearce was tapped to pen the screenplay back in May. Which means everything is set for Marvel except, well, the cast. Which works out well, because a March 2011 start date is still a ways off.

Former Simply Red star Mick Hucknall has been confirmed as Rod Stewart's replacement in newly-reunited supergroup The Faces. Ron Wood, Kenney Jones and Ian McLagan re-teamed with former frontman Stewart for rehearsals in late 2008 with a view to touring together in 2009 - but their schedules clashed and the "Baby Jane" singer was forced to quit.
Speculation mounted that Hucknall would replace Stewart when he joined the band as a guest for a concert at London's Royal Albert Hall in October. Now Wood has confirmed Hucknall will be their new singer - and they chose the rocker because his voice sounds like Stewart's at the height of his success in the 1970s. He says, "What we loved about Mick Hucknall was his voice range was just like Rod's in the Seventies... It's exciting to be on this path again. I hope Faces fans are as excited as we are."
