Dashing Canadian actor Stephen Amell is best known for his role as Oliver Queen in “Green Arrow” in the Arrowverse. The show was based on the famous comic book character. He also made a name for himself in the role of Casey Jones in the hit “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” (2016). He has an unforgettable face which is familiar to most younger people, but most have forgotten about the other roles that he played earlier in his career. Here are five roles that you totally forgot Stephen Amell played. Billy in “Rent-a-Goalie” Few people seem to

Unsung actress Beverly Garland becomes TV’s first lady cop, in what’s claimed to be the first TV show filmed on the streets of New York City. This one-season wonder from 1957 has vintage locations, fairly tough-minded storylines and solid performances, from Bev and a vast gallery of stage and TV actors on the way up.

By now, you’re well aware that a comic book’s original solicitation may not always reflect the final product you’ll eventually find at your local comic shop. In fact, just yesterday, we brought word that such a thing will happen with Batman #23. But whereas that seems to be a case of a new story overwriting what was initially announced, the developing situation with Nightwing is a bit of a different beast.
You see, an arc featuring Blockbuster set to be titled, well, “Blockbuster,” was originally penciled in to make up the content for issue #21, but now what looks to be a standalone tale exploring the fallout of “Nightwing Must Die” will appear in its place. But don’t fret, because “Blockbuster” is simply being pushed a bit while this interim yarn will do its best to enthrall readers.

The holidays are over and winter’s charm is fading like dirty snow. Even though it’s the shortest month, it often feels like the longest, and we kind of just want to avoid the great outdoors until spring. There are family-friendly features playing at Cineplex theatres every Saturday morning at 11am as part of our Family Favourites program. Mondo recently announced a Nickelodeon-themed gallery art show that they are putting on called A Nick-Nick-Nick-Nick-n-Nick-Nick-Nick... Nickelodeon Show! and they've released a couple of posters inspired by their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. They were created by Ciro Nieli, who is a producer and director on the show, and as you can see they have a very unique style to them. They have a very sketchy feel to them and they are filled with notes, which is actually kinda cool. The first poster features Casey Jones and the second is of Metalhead, who is a fifth robot Ninja Turtle created by Donatello.
I also included a few other pieces that they teased featuring Ren & Stimpy by Florian Bertmer, Tmnt by Sachin Teng, and Rocko's Modern Life by Dave Perillo. The art show takes place from December 9th to the 17th at Mondo Gallery in Austin, Texas.

I’ll be one of the first ones to admit that I enjoyed the 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. Going into it, I had the lowest of low expectations. The film had the stink of Michael Bay all over it (even if he didn’t direct), the CG effects looked suspect, and the story looked beyond stupid. Imagine my surprise upon finishing and realizing that, not only did I not hate the movie, but I actually genuinely enjoyed it. Don’t get me wrong, but wasn’t great, but I had a good time watching the film for what it was.
So when it was announced that there would be a sequel, I pretty much shrugged and thought, “yeah, sure, I’ll watch it.” Unfortunately, like a lot of viewers who liked the first movie, I didn’t have the same response with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows...

This week's officially released synopsis for Arrow is, "Wild Dog defies the Green Arrow's orders by taking it upon himself to go after drug dealer Garret Runnels, who is terrorizing Star City." How Will Wild Dog's actions affect the team? What will happen in the aftermath of Prometheus' encounter with Tobias Church? What's next for Oliver in his time with the Bratva? Read on to find out!
****Arrow: Season 5, Episode 3 Spoilers!!****
The episode begins with the new Team Arrow watching from computer monitors as Green Arrow takes down a drug dealer selling Stardust, a new drug. The team now consists of Curtis, Wild Dog, Artemis, and Ragman. As the team watches on, they wonder if Green Arrow will kill the drug dealer. Oliver doesn’t, but he leaves him in serious pain. I like the way the writers are establishing the team. It doesn’t seem as rushed.

If you can do an interview in person, it’s usually better to do so. It’s just easier to communicate with someone in the same room as you, from timing to noticing clues as to when they’re bored of your stupid questions. But interviewing Pete Ploszek over the phone comes with a benefit.
Pete Ploszek plays Leonardo in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows. He physically plays him, but you wouldn’t know it to look at him because of the use of motion capture technology (a mixture of visual effects science and ancient magic rituals). I’ve met Mr Ploszek before and he looks like a nice, pleasant human being rather than a giant mutant reptile. But he’s also the voice of Leonardo and so,...

If you didn't like the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, chances are the sequel would have done nothing to change your mind despite the inclusion of a number of fan-favourite characters. Out of the Shadows brought the likes of Krang, Bepop, Rocksteady, and Casey Jones to the big screen, and while it was definitely watchable, it still wasn't the movie most fans of these characters actually wanted to see. If that's how you feel about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, then you'll love this Honest Trailer as it takes aim at pretty much every new and returning addition, not to mention the fact that the four heroes in a half shell aren't actually ninjas! With the sequel underperforming at the box office, who knows if we'll get a third instalment, but at least this look at the movie is a lot of fun...

In honor of its release on Digital HD today (watch it on FandangoNOW here), we've been given an exclusive deleted scene from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows that expands upon the somewhat flirty nature of the relationship between Stephen Amell's Casey Jones and Megan Fox's April O' Neil. As Jones and O'Neil make their way through a police station trying to go unnoticed, Jones suggests that she kiss him in order to maintain their cover. Meanwhile, she thinks that's the dumbest idea ever. Watch what happens next below. One thing we love about this scene is that it's poking fun at the common "kiss me" diversion, as seen in a similar moment during Captain America: The Winter Soldier, when Cap and Black Widow...

Back when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows was shooting in NYC, some set snaps revealed that original big-screen April O'Neill, Judith Hoag, was set to make a cameo appearance in the sequel. Hoag's part wound up being cut, but this first deleted scene from the upcoming Blu-ray release reveals which role she would have played: April's (Megan Fox) boss, Rita. Raphael, Leonardo, Donatello, and Michelangelo are back to battle bigger, badder villains, alongside April O'Neil and a newcomer: the hockey-masked vigilante Casey Jones. After supervillain Shredder escapes custody, he joins forces with two dimwitted henchmen, Bebop and Rocksteady, to unleash a diabolical plan to take over the world. As the Turtles prepare to take on Shredder and his new crew, they find themselves facing an even greater threat with similar intentions: the notorious Krang. A month ago it was announced that there would be a crossover comic miniseries that teamed Batman up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Today we have four pieces of cover art created for the series thanks to Cbr. The new comic is based on the version of Batman from the classic animated series and the Ninja Turtles from Amazing Adventures. The comic is called Batman/Tmnt Adventures, and it comes from Idw Publishing. This is the synopsis:
The story will follow Batman, in the style we know and love from Batman: The Animated Series, in his pursuit of his usual band of foes after they break free—as they always seem to do—from the confines of Arkham Asylum. The assorted criminals will find their way across canons into New York City, where Bats will have no choice but to call upon the help of the pizza-loving goofballs devoted...

The latest episode of Spbd is finally here. Who trained their sidekick better, Batman or Captain America? With this appearing to be the Winter Soldier from the comics and not the McU, Bucky doesn't have any super strength, just his metal arm, superior marksmanship and honed tactical analysis. Will that be enough to take down someone who regularly puts down Gotham's toughest metahumans without breaking a sweat? Cheesy dialogue aside, the fight choreography is absolutely Insane and easily better than anything you'll see on the superhero shows on ABC or The CW. Former WWE superstar John Morrison, who previously starred in the Spbd episode - Casey Jones vs Kick-Ass Casey, plays Barnes. Director Aaron Schoenke plays reprises his usual role as BitS' Nightwing. The next episode will feature Wonder Woman vs Wolverine so be sure to vote for who you would think would win that match-up and help prevent the...

In 2016, there are three main running Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles continuities. There’s the film series, which I like, the comic book series, which I love, and the Nickelodeon cartoon series, which is my favourite.
I’ve written a lot of articles about the show because I think it’s excellent. I’d argue that it’s the best new take on the Turtles since the 1990 live-action film. It takes a lot of what I love about the Ninja Turtles and runs it through a filter of weird horror films and odd sci-fi. Then they add their own elements too, shaping it into this this sharp, funny lovely little oddball of a show.

If ardent Tmnt fans took issue with Paramount and Dave Green’s spin on Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, let it be known that early on in development both parties had at the very least considered an alternate take on the infamous, masked vigilante.

Below you can check out some alternate takes on some of the supporting characters from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows , courtesy of Daniel Edery and Jared Krichevsky This sequel had its moments, but was viewed by the majority of fans as a disappointment. One of the biggest gripes was the new live-action interpretation of hockey mask-wearing vigilante, Casey Jones. Stephen Amell's take really had nothing in common with the character from the comics and animated series, and looked completely different to boot. As you can see, at one time we may have gotten a version that was a lot closer to the original Casey... in appearance, at least. The Ninja Turtles come into conflict with T.C.R.I. scientist Dr. Baxter Stockman with the association of the Foot Clan and the return of the Shredder, who has hired Stockman to create mutants of their own...

It’s now been made clear on multiple occasions that the DC TV Universe isn’t going to be crossing over with any of the Dceu films, which means we’re never going to see Stephen Amell’s Green Arrow lining up alongside the rest of the Justice League. Perhaps, then, that’s why the Arrow star has given some thought to who he’d like to play in the cinematic universe if given a chance.
Talking in a recent interview to promote the release of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel, Amell revealed that he actually has his sights set on one of Batman’s rogues.
“I always get this question. I think all the superheroes are taken now. I’ll play The Riddler, okay? It’s a villain, but I like The Riddler.”
The chances of that happening are obviously somewhere between slim and none, but it does seem somewhat appropriate that the actor would pick a Batman villain when you take into account just how much Arrow has borrowed from the Caped Crusader’s world over the past few years.
Of course, Amell clearly isn’t campaigning for the role, but chances are that his big screen career is indeed about to take off in a major way after playing Casey Jones in Tmnt: Out of the Shadows. As a result, it will be interesting to see what other projects he takes on when not working on Arrow, though with the fifth season set to air this Fall, he’s definitely got a busy few months ahead of him.

Full Disclosure: I grew up a product of the 1980s and 1990s, which means I was a big fan of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic books from Eastman & Laird, the original cartoon, and the first batch of live action Turtles flicks. I still have fond memories of riding my bike to the Fox Village Theater to see the original live action flick multiple times. Hell, I even had the movie novelization and soundtrack.
If the above disclosure describes you in way or the other, then Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows was made with you in mind. It essentially feels like an almost two-hour apology to the hardcore fans of the series. As the movie runs along, tonally it felt like a live-action adaptation of a four-part episode of the original cartoon. In a sense, Out of the Shadows does for Ninja Turtles what G.I. Joe: Retaliation...

The antics of Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Donatello were always going to be perfect for a franchise. Not only does it give a chance for adults to take a nostalgic trip down memory lane to their infancy when they used to watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in cartoon and movie form, but it allows them to introduce the heroes in a half-shell to their offspring, too. But what are the chances that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows will be followed by another sequel? Well, according to its cast, that.s the plan. I had the opportunity to sit down with the cast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows last month, where I asked them about the potential of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3. And having only just made his debut as Casey Jones in Out Of The Shadows, Stephen Amell admitted that he is...

During his panel at Wizard World Philadelphia this weekend, Stephen Amell talked about various topics, such as his role as Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, what future projects he would like to take on as an actor, and, of course, what fans can expect to see from Arrow Season 5. Although Amell told the crowd that he did not know much about what’s coming up in the new season of the CW superhero series, as he hasn’t received a script yet and won’t be talking with the show’s writers until this Wednesday, he still did offer

Welcome to the first really bad weekend of the summer. Even though this weekend saw three new wide-releases, it's still the lowest-grossing weekend of Summer 2016 so far.
The new "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows," debuted at No. 1 with an estimated $35.3 million, but that's just over half of the $65.6 million debut that the previous "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" enjoyed two summers ago. Romance "Me Before You" did half as well as "Out of the Shadows," opening in third place with an estimated $18.3 million -- besting Warner Bros.' expectations. And Andy Samberg's boy-band mockumentary, "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping," underperformed with an estimated $4.6 million -- landing in eighth place. Woof.
Meanwhile, the modest sales of "Out of the Shadows" were enough to displace last week's winner, "X-Men: Apocalypse," which fell 66 percent in its second weekend to No. 2 with an estimated $22.3 million. Last week's big box office disappointment,...

As someone who didn't grow up a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I was pleasantly surprised by the first instalment. It wasn't exactly a great movie, but enjoyable enough, and with the addition of several fan-favourite characters (including Bepop, Rocksteady, Casey Jones, and Krang), Out of the Shadows should be even better, right? I wouldn't know...I'm waiting for this and Warcraft to hit Blu-ray! However, I'm sure plenty of you have gone to see the movie this weekend, so now you can share your thoughts on the movie in the poll and comments section below. While Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows hasn't exactly received good reviews (it holds a score of 37% on Rotten Tomatoes despite most critics saying it's better than the first), many fans do seem to have responded well to it. Were you one of them or are you hoping for a reboot of the franchise?...

A failing popstar, four pizza-loving turtles, and a love story that will have you blaming the watery eyes on your allergies again… That’s what’s new this week in theatres!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows
Cowabunga! Raphael, Donatello, Leonardo, and Michelangelo are all back for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of The Shadows! If you grew up on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, this is guaranteed to be one nostalgia trip after the next. Megan Fox also returns as reporter April O’Neil, but I’m excited about all the new faces! On the good side, we have "Arrow" star, Stephen Amell strapping on the gloves and hockey mask, playing (the very Canadian looking) Casey Jones! On the evil side, they really didn’t pull any punches. Along with the inevitable return of Shredder, our other main villain, Dr. Baxter Stockman, creates a few mutants to give Team Evil the edge.

In the wake of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hitting the big screen back in 2014, very few critics were asking for more where it came from. General audiences, however, made the film a smash hit success at the box office, so it was only a matter of time before those heroes in a half shell returned to do battle with villains much more outlandish than The Shredder. In the interest of full disclosure, I’m one of those few critics who was asking for more back in 2014. And I sure am glad we got it.

Late in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, one of our heroes tells another to simply accept the insanity around them and “just roll with it.” By the way this sequel turned out, it’s easy to see how that mantra might have guided the film’s development from the very start. After all, the 2014 franchise reboot divided fans of the heroes in a half-shell by making some radical changes to the mythology, earning unfavorable comparisons to producer Michael Bay’s Transformers films. Considering that Megan Fox assumes the role of April O’Neil and the climactic battle involves a very robotic-looking Shredder, the film’s critics certainly were at least somewhat justified in their collective response.
However, where that first film truly falters is in its understanding of what fans expect when they decide...

The “heroes in a half-shell” have repeatedly been reintroduced for almost three decades. Even for fans, it’s hard to keep track of all the different comic series, movies, cartoons, live-action shows, and action figure lines. Michael Bay and his team clearly noticed the success of the Nickelodeon cartoon that began in 2012 (and continues to be amazing) and seemed to think that they could carry over that popularity into a new live-action film series. And so the turtles were born again for the big-screen two years ago. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) introduced us to the next incarnation of our favorite crime-fighting turtle team, even if we didn’t exactly spend as much time with the brothers as we do with the bodacious brunette April O’Neil (that’s at least how Michelangelo would describe her). Never did we really just get a scene with the brothers outside of April’s...

IMAX has released a new poster for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows, and it features the heroes in a half shell alongside human allies Casey Jones and April O’Neil.
Despite receiving a mixed response in 2014, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles grossed just shy of $500 million worldwide, so the fact that we’re getting this sequel is hardly a surprise. However, adding so many fan-favourite characters and hopefully an acknowledgement of what didn’t work in the first instalment will with any luck go some way in ensuring that the follow-up fares a little better.
Based on the reviews for this one so far, it is a success in that respect, thought still not necessarily what you might call a “good” movie. Of course, like the Transformers franchise for example, this isn’t the kind...

In our nerdy Ninja Turtle-lovin' opinion, Casey Jones is a character so important to the Tmnt mythology, he should play a huge role in all of the movies. And he does just that in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (June 3), as Stephen Amell (Arrow) portrays a live-action version of the hockey mask-wearing tough guy for the first time since 1993 (we love you Elias Koteas!), not counting this short fan film (Chris Evans voiced Jones in the 2007 animated movie). The notorious street vigilante gets a deeper origin story here, making him a corrections officer with aspirations to become a detective one day. "We don’t get in this movie the full-fledged, five-alarm fire Casey Jones that a lot of fans of the Turtles and the cartoon and the comics are...

Anyone who's grown up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles knows they're known for three things: action, humour, and a love for pizza. The latest installment in their movie franchise, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, is no exception. Michael Bay, who's also famous for helming the Transformers movies, and director David Green deliver non-stop action punctuated with comedy while introducing some brand-new faces. There's a new villain in town, but luckily, the Turtles have a new ally to help them in their fight: Casey Jones, played by Canadian actorStephen Amell. We sat down with Amell to talk about his role in the movie, his character's amazing hockey-inspired moves, and of course, the big question: who's his favourite turtle! Watch:...

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles originated in 1984 as a self-published comic book by two guys in New Hampshire, intended as a one-off parody of Cerebus, New Mutants, and the work of Frank Miller. More than 30 years on, there have been multiple comic series, four TV show adaptations, numerous video games, countless toys, and now six movies. It’s a bona-fide cultural phenomenon. And yet all you have to do is recite the name to remind yourself that it was all intended as a joke. Nostalgia is a helluva thing.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows not only recognizes this, but directly exploits it. Nearly all the hallmarks of the 1987 Tmnt cartoon (the biggest millennial touchstone for the franchise), are present here, including several that have never appeared in any of the theatrical films before. And this may indeed win over fans, going by the grown men at my screening...

Dave Green’s first film, Earth To Echo, had some mighty familiar DNA. You could tell that he was a fan of ‘80s Amblin’ films and that he’d absorbed the lessons of the film on a nearly molecular level like many of the film nerd kids who grew up on those movies. More than anything, he got the relationships between the kids right in that film, and it appears he carried that skill set over to a franchise that I have very little personal fondness for, resulting in what may well be the most consistently fun live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie ever made. It’s easy to dismiss someone’s fondness for something as pure nostalgia, but it’s also reductive and, in many cases, not why someone loves something. I may not personally be a Turtles fan, but I know enough of them (and have fathered a...

Assuming the role of a noteworthy comic book character that has a passionate fan base is no easy task. But Stephen Amell already knows that. The Canadian actor has played the role of Oliver Queen across five seasons on The CW’s massively popular Arrow. His series has also formed the base of an ever-expanding television universe based on DC comics characters that has now come to include The Flash and Supergirl.
So, when Amell was tapped to play Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, the second live-action film in the 21st century franchise reboot, he was keen and ready for the task ahead of him.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows will finally hit theaters this Friday, and an important new player in the rebooted film franchise is Casey Jones. Actor Stephen Amell, best known as Oliver Queen on The CW’s Arrow, has taken on the role of the crime fighter, but it’s now been revealed that we almost didn’t get to see Casey kick ass in the film. And it also turns out that there was a very blunt reason why the character was eventually added to the movie, as just revealed by the film’s producer, Brad Fuller. There was a point in this story when we didn’t have Casey Jones in it because we just felt like we just couldn’t fit in another character. That became a big battle towards the end of prep. It was really Bay who ...

You.d have thought that Stephen Amell would have spent a long time reading comics and watching cartoons after being cast as Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows. But Amell has now admitted that his preparation ahead of the blockbuster was actually drastically different, as he revealed that he avoided getting "bogged down in research" so that he could make the role of Casey Jones his own. Stephen Amell made this admission to me towards the end of last month when I sat down to discuss his work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows. This isn.t the first time that the Canadian actor has stepped into an iconic role, as he.s been portraying Oliver Queen on Arrow now for four seasons. Stephen Amell knows a thing or two about portraying established, hugely popular characters. Not only has the 35-year-old been playing Oliver Queen/Green Arrow for four seasons now, but he also is soon making his debut as Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows, too. In order to fit into the current Turtles universe Stephen Amell.s incarnation of Casey Jones had to be slightly altered, though, and now the Canadian actor has detailed these changes.
